AI Website & App Builders

Best AI Website & App Builders in Australia 2026: The Honest Ranking

By Adam · 7 Jun 2026 · 15 min read
Category verdict

Our Top Pick for Australians: Wix AI Website Builder. Every pick below is scored on the same five criteria.

Our pick: Wix (20/25, ⭐⭐⭐⭐) — the safest all-rounder, billed in AUD with a GST invoice. Runner-up: Squarespace (19/25, ⭐⭐⭐⭐) — sharper-looking, equally compliant, no free plan. Best for ownership: 10Web (17/25) — a real WordPress site you can export and own. Budget pick: Hostinger Horizons (16/25) — the cheapest way to ship a working web app. Now sold as Hostinger AI Builder, from A$4.39/mo on a 48-month prepayment.

Last reviewed: 20 September 2026 by Adam. Six tools tested.

⚠ Update — 20 September 2026: our budget pick has changed its name and its price list. Hostinger merged Horizons into Hostinger AI Builder on 18 August 2026, and /horizons now redirects to /ai-builder. The US$6.99/month Explorer tier and the 7-day free trial no longer exist. Hostinger now publishes native Australian-dollar pricing: A$4.39/month promotional, A$210.72 paid 48 months upfront, renewing at A$15.89/month. The Horizons entries below have been corrected. This ranking is flagged for a refresh — AUD billing was one of the reasons Horizons sat where it did, and it now bills in AUD.

There is no five-star tool in this category, and that's the honest headline. Not one of these builders is Australian-built, and the ones with the cleverest AI bill you in US dollars and host your site overseas. So the winner isn't the slickest — it's the one that does the boring things right: charges you in AUD, includes GST, and hands you a tax invoice you can actually file.

Quick-pick table

Tool Best for Price Free tier? Score Read full review
Wix All-round small-business site AUD at checkout (USD ref from $17/mo)* ✅ 20/25 →
Squarespace Design-led brand/portfolio From A$17/mo (AUD, annual) ❌ (14-day trial) 19/25 →
10Web A WordPress site you own US$10/mo (≈A$14.00) ❌ (free trial) 17/25 →
Durable The fastest 30-second site Free / US$22/mo (≈A$31) ✅ 16/25 →
Framer Best-looking, animated sites Free / A$13/mo billed yearly (native AUD) ✅ 17/25 →
Hostinger Horizons (now AI Builder) Cheap prompt-to-web-app A$4.39/mo promo, 48 months upfront (renews A$15.89) ❌ (30-day money-back) 16/25 →

*Squarespace serves native AUD on its AU pricing page (verified 7 June 2026: Basic A$24/mo, or A$17/mo on annual, up to Advanced A$149/mo). Wix bills AU customers in AUD with GST included (its AU cards read "Price includes GST"), but its public page shows USD reference figures only — the exact AUD is set at checkout. Other tools are USD-only; USD converted at ~1.40 AUD/USD (September 2026) for reference.

Why this category matters for Australians

Building a website used to mean a designer, a developer, or a weekend lost to a clunky template. AI builders collapse that to a prompt: describe your business, get a site. For the millions of Australian sole traders and small businesses without a web presence — the tradie, the bookkeeper, the consultant, the café — that's a genuine unlock.

But "build a website" is the easy part now; every tool here does it competently. The questions that actually separate them for an Australian business are the unglamorous ones. Does it bill in AUD or leave you guessing at a USD conversion? Does it issue a GST tax invoice you can put against your BAS, or none at all? Where does your site — and your customers' data — physically live? No global "best AI website builder" list asks any of this. It's the whole reason this ranking looks different from the ones you'll find everywhere else.

One boundary worth stating: this category is for non-developers building hosted sites and apps. Tools that hand you source code to own and deploy yourself — Cursor, Replit, Lovable, Bolt — belong with Coding & Development, not here. (10Web is the one tool that straddles the line, because it builds you a real, exportable WordPress site — which is exactly why it scores well on ownership.)

How we tested

We assessed each tool against our standard 5×5 framework — Value for Money, Ease of Use, Feature Depth, Australian Fit and Reliability & Support, each out of 5, for 25 total — with pricing and capability claims checked against each vendor's own pages on 7 June 2026. Australian Fit carries extra weight: under our Methodology, a tool can't be named a category Top Pick unless it scores at least 4/5 on Australian Fit, no matter how high its raw total. That gate is the difference between "a good tool" and "a good tool for Australians."

The picks, ranked

1. Wix — 20/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wix is the Top Pick, and not because its AI is the best — it's because Wix behaves like a company that wants Australian customers. It bills in AUD, includes GST, and issues a compliant tax invoice. Behind that, it's the deepest platform here: a fast AI builder that produces a coherent multi-page site in under two minutes, plus native bookings, a real store, a blog, email marketing and a 1,000-app market — all in one login.

The cost of that breadth is clutter: the Wix Editor is powerful but busy, and refining the AI's draft takes hours, not minutes. You're also locked in (no export), and there's no Australian hosting region. But for a 35-year-old Melbourne business owner who wants one tool that does everything and bills them properly, nothing else here matches it. Worth noting: at 20/25 it's "Very Good," not "Excellent" — the absent AU data residency holds it (and the whole category) below five stars. Read the full Wix review →

2. Squarespace — 19/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If looks matter most, Squarespace is the pick. It builds the best-looking sites in the category by a clear margin — every template starts from a designer-grade base — and it matches Wix on the things that count for Australians: AUD billing and a GST tax invoice. Its editor is cleaner and less intimidating than Wix's, which suits a non-technical owner who still cares about craft.

Two things keep it behind Wix. There's no free plan (just a 14-day trial), and its AI is a design assistant rather than a one-prompt generator — you do more of the work, even if the result looks more expensive. It's also thinner on features: no real app market, lighter business tools. For a brand site, services business or portfolio, though, it's the more beautiful choice — and just as compliant. Read the full Squarespace review →

3. 10Web — 17/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

10Web is the pick for anyone who refuses to be locked in. Its AI builds a real WordPress site — which means you can export it, move it, hand it to a developer, or extend it with the whole WordPress ecosystem. Every other proprietary builder here traps your site on their platform; 10Web doesn't. It runs on managed Google Cloud hosting, and its data-centre list includes "Sydney, Australia (australia-southeast1-c)" — so your site can sit on Australian infrastructure, a data-residency story none of the others can tell.

What holds it back is billing: it's USD-only, with no clean GST invoice, and because WordPress sits underneath, the occasional technical edge pokes through for a true no-code user. But for the Australian business that wants to own its site and keep its options open, 10Web is the most strategically sensible of the AI-native builders — and the one we'd watch most closely if it ever adds AUD billing. The three-way tie at 16/25 (as scored in June)

Durable, Framer and Hostinger Horizons all landed on 16/25 in June — each excellent at one specific job, each held back on that check by USD billing and no local invoice. We've ordered them by what they're best at, not by any score difference. Two of the three have since moved to native AUD billing: Hostinger, whose Australian Fit we lifted from 2/5 to 3/5 on 21 September 2026, and Framer, lifted the same way on 28 September 2026 to 17/25 — both still short of the 4/5 the Top Pick gate requires. Durable remains on 2/5 and USD.

4. Durable — 16/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — the fastest

Durable does one thing better than anything else: it gets something live in about 30 seconds, with a basic CRM and invoicing attached. For a brand-new sole trader who's been avoiding "getting a website" for two years, that psychological unlock is the product. The catch is depth — one-page templated sites that look alike — and, more pointedly, US-centric invoicing that doesn't handle GST. A tool that invites you to invoice from it but ignores Australian tax is a mismatch for the exact user it targets. Use it as a fast starting line; expect to graduate. Read the full Durable review →

5. Framer — 17/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — the best-looking

Framer builds the sharpest, most animated sites in the category — studio-grade motion and typography from a no-code tool. It's the connoisseur's pick for a brand, product launch or portfolio, if you (or someone on your team) think a little like a designer. It's the steepest learning curve here and it's marketing-site-shaped (no real store or bookings). Since our June check it has started billing Australians in AUD — Basic A$13 and Pro A$40 a month on yearly billing, with tax added at checkout — which is why its Australian Fit rose to 3/5 on 28 September 2026. Buy it for design quality above all else. Read the full Framer review →

6. Hostinger Horizons — 16/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — the cheapest, and the most "app"

Sold as Hostinger AI Builder since 18 August 2026. Horizons is no longer available as a separate product.

Horizons is the one tool here built for web apps, not just websites — describe an interactive tool, MVP or calculator and it ships a working, hosted app, with hosting and domain bundled. That makes it the budget pick and the standout for anyone who needs function over polish.

The commercial terms changed in September. It now costs A$4.39/month promotional, but only if you prepay 48 months — A$210.72 in one go — and it renews at A$15.89/month. Hostinger bills that in Australian dollars, which is an improvement on the USD-only terms we reviewed in June. The limits are a tighter credit meter (Premium lists five AI credits, described on the plan card as a one-time gift, where Explorer gave 30 a month), tax excluded from the listed price, and no Australian data centre (Singapore is the nearest). For a non-sensitive internal tool on a budget, it is still hard to beat on price — if you are willing to commit for four years. Read the full Hostinger Horizons review →

How to choose: a simple framework

Q: I run a small business with under 10 staff and just want a proper website. What should I pick? A: Wix. It's the safest all-rounder, builds fast, does bookings and a store if you need them, and — crucially — bills you in AUD with a GST invoice. If you care more about how the site looks than about features, choose Squarespace instead.

Q: I want my website and customer data to stay in Australia. What works? A: 10Web is the only one that can. When you create or migrate a site it lets you choose the data centre, and Sydney, Australia (australia-southeast1) is on the list — so your site and its data stay onshore. None of the proprietary builders (Wix, Squarespace, Framer, Durable) offers an Australian region at all. If data residency is a hard compliance requirement, 10Web is the pick here; otherwise it's a non-issue for a typical brochure or brand site.

Q: I just want the cheapest thing that works. What's good enough? A: Hostinger AI Builder, the tool formerly sold as Horizons, from A$4.39/month with hosting included — though that rate needs 48 months paid upfront, A$210.72. Otherwise Durable's and Framer's free tiers, if you can live with their branding on a subdomain. For a genuinely free and good site to start, Framer's free plan is the most capable.

Q: I want to own my site outright and never be locked in. What's the right pick? A: 10Web. It's the only tool here that builds you a real, exportable WordPress site you can take anywhere. Everything else keeps your site on its platform permanently.

Q: I need an actual web app — a tool, not a brochure. What should I use? A: Hostinger AI Builder, formerly Horizons. It's the most app-oriented builder in this set. Keep a close eye on the credit meter as you iterate — the entry plan now ships five AI credits, not thirty a month.

What we'd skip, and why

We deliberately left the code-handover tools out of this category — Lovable, Bolt, Cursor, Replit. They're powerful, but they're aimed at people who want to own and deploy code, which is a different job (and a different category). If that's you, you're not really shopping for a no-code builder.

We'd also caution against taking the "run your whole business here" pitch literally on the USD-billed tools, especially Durable. The site is fine; the built-in invoicing isn't built for Australian GST. Invoice from your accounting software, and use the builder for what it's good at — the website.

Bottom line

Six capable tools, and a clear answer: most Australian small businesses should pick Wix. It's the deepest, it's nearly as fast to build as the one-prompt upstarts, and it does the one thing that decides this category — it bills you like an Australian business, GST and all. If design polish matters more than features, Squarespace is the equally-compliant, better-looking runner-up. If owning your site outright is the priority, 10Web is the smart outsider.

The AI-native trio — Durable, Framer, Hostinger Horizons — are genuinely impressive at their specialities (fastest, prettiest, cheapest-app), but on our June check each asked you to accept USD billing and offshore hosting, which is why none cleared our Australian Fit gate. Hostinger has since added AUD billing, though not a Sydney region, and that is exactly the kind of move we said would shake this ranking up: we re-scored it on 21 September 2026 and its Australian Fit rose to 3/5. It is still one point short of the gate, so the Top Pick does not move — but it is now the best-localised of the three, and the first tool in this roundup to close any part of the gap.

Update history
  • 28 Sep 2026 — Framer now bills in AUD; its score rises 16 → 17/25 (Australian Fit 2 → 3). framer.com/pricing read in the in-app browser on an Australian connection shows Basic A$13 and Pro A$40 a month on yearly billing, tax added at checkout — the June review recorded USD, and the June Wayback confirms it was USD then. Quick-pick row, the "three on 16/25" paragraph, the Framer section and the index row updated. Ranking unchanged: Framer is still ordered by what it's best at, and 3/5 is still short of the Top Pick gate. Durable stays USD (re-verified today).
  • 20 Sep 2026 — Hostinger Horizons is no longer available under that name; it is now the agentic mode of Hostinger AI Builder (merged 18 August 2026). Horizons Explorer US$6.99/mo (≈A$9.79) with a 7-day free trial and 30 monthly AI credits no longer exists. The entry plan is now Premium at A$4.39/mo promotional — A$210.72 paid 48 months upfront, renewing at A$15.89/mo — with 5 AI credits the plan card calls a one-time gift, and a 30-day money-back guarantee in place of the trial. Frequently asked questions

Which AI website builder is best for Australian businesses?

Wix (20/25). It's the deepest all-rounder, builds a multi-page site in under two minutes, and crucially bills in AUD with GST included and a compliant tax invoice. Choose Squarespace instead if design polish matters more than features.

Are any of these tools free?

Wix, Durable and Framer have free tiers. Hostinger Horizons had a 7-day trial, but it is now sold as Hostinger AI Builder and that trial is no longer advertised — a 30-day money-back guarantee replaces it. Squarespace and 10Web offer trials only, not free plans. Framer's free plan is the most capable for a genuinely free starting site.

Do any bill in AUD or store data in Australia?

Wix and Squarespace bill in AUD with GST, and Hostinger now publishes native AUD pricing for AI Builder, the tool formerly sold as Horizons. 10Web, Durable and Framer were USD-only on our June check. Only 10Web can keep your site and data onshore — it offers a Sydney, Australia data centre. No proprietary builder offers an Australian region.

Which is cheapest, and which lets me own my site?

Hostinger AI Builder, formerly Horizons, is the budget pick, from A$4.39/month with hosting included — but that rate requires 48 months paid upfront, A$210.72, and renews at A$15.89/month. For ownership, 10Web is the only one that builds a real, exportable WordPress site you can take anywhere — every other builder keeps your site locked on its platform.
