Start Here: Find the Right AI Tool for What You Do

Three things make this publication different from every other AI tool list you will find.

Australian Fit is scored on its own, and it decides the top rating. Every review scores five criteria out of five. One of them is how well the tool actually serves an Australian: AUD billing, GST, data residency, local support, AU-aware output. Under our Australian Fit gate, five stars and a category Top Pick both require at least 4 out of 5 there. A brilliant American tool that treats Australia as an afterthought loses to a good one that does not.

Prices are in the currency you actually pay. Where a vendor bills in Australian dollars, we print that figure. Where it bills in US dollars, we convert at the rate we verified on the day and say so. We do not quietly bolt GST onto our own conversion.

Every review carries the date it was last verified. Prices move. Plans get renamed. A review with no date on it is a guess wearing a suit.

One more thing, said plainly: most of our reviews are desk-researched, not hands-on. They are built from the vendor's own pricing pages, documentation, help centres and release notes, plus independent reporting. Some are hands-on — usually the tools we use to run this publication. Our Methodology page explains how we tell you which is which.

Now pick your door.

If you run a small business

You want the tool that saves you a day a week, bills you in dollars you recognise, and does not create a compliance headache. Accounting, customer enquiries and sales admin are where AI pays for itself first. Start where the money leaks.

Your constraint is not price. It is whether the tool understands Australian law, Australian regulators and Australian clients or patients. It is also whether the tool survives a question about where the data sits. These reviews lead with that.

If you work in legal, finance or health, treat our reviews as a shortlist and not as advice. No AI tool replaces qualified professional advice, and every review in those categories says so.

If you are a founder or building something

You are choosing tooling, not software. What matters is the cost at scale, whether you can self-host it, and whether the billing currency is one your accountant recognises.

If you are just getting started

You do not need a stack. You need one assistant that works, costs little, and never asks you to think about exchange rates. Start on a free tier. Pay only once something annoys you enough to fix.

Two more pages worth your time

  • Editor's Choice — the 27 tools that top their category and clear the Australian Fit gate. Four categories have none, and that absence is the point.
  • Australian data residency — which reviewed tools state an Australian region, and which ones only look like they do.
