v0 Review 2026: A Powerful UI Builder for Developers — But Not for Most Australian Businesses
- From
- A$42/mo per user · ex-GST · billed in USD ($30)
The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictPricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).
The verdict: v0 is an impressive technical tool that turns natural language into production-quality React code faster than any developer can type. For Australian developers and technical founders, it is a genuine productivity booster. For the typical Australian small business owner with no coding background, it is largely useless — the output is code, not a website, and getting that code into something you can actually use still requires developer skills. It prices in USD only — with VAT/GST or equivalent added for international customers from April 2026 where Vercel is registered to collect it — and your AI usage data is stored on US infrastructure with no Australian data residency option. Score: 13/25 — Good.
What it is
v0 is an AI-powered UI and code generator made by Vercel, the American cloud infrastructure company headquartered in San Francisco. Vercel is best known as the company behind Next.js — the React framework used on a significant share of modern web applications.
v0 launched in late 2023 and has evolved considerably. In 2026 it positions itself as a full-stack development platform: describe what you want in plain English, and it generates a working React/Next.js application with TypeScript, Tailwind CSS styling, and shadcn/ui components — all visible in a live preview inside the chat interface.
The pitch is compelling. Type "build me a customer dashboard with a sidebar, data table, and line chart," and within 30 seconds you have interactive, deployable code. You can deploy directly to Vercel's hosting infrastructure with one click, sync to GitHub, and iterate in conversation.
There is also a Design Mode — a visual editor added in 2025 — that lets users click on elements in the live preview and adjust typography, colour, spacing, and borders without touching code. This is the feature that comes closest to making v0 accessible to non-technical users, though its scope is limited to visual tweaks rather than structural changes.
Vercel was founded by Guillermo Rauch in 2015 and was valued at US$9.3 billion in its September 2025 Series F round.
What it costs in Australia (AUD + GST)
v0 prices in USD. From 1 April 2026, Vercel began collecting VAT/GST or equivalent on invoices for international customers in jurisdictions where it is registered to do so. Vercel's tax page does not name Australia specifically, so we treat the 10% GST line below as a likely conversion rather than a confirmed Australian charge — check your own invoice for a GST line item before relying on it.
| Plan | USD/month | Approx. AUD/month (×1.40) | AUD (ex-GST) | Key inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | $0 | $5 USD of monthly credits, 7 messages/day limit, Vercel deploy, Design Mode, GitHub sync |
| Plus (formerly Team) | $30/user | ~A$42.00/user | ~A$42/user | $30 USD monthly credits per user, $2 USD daily login credits, shared billing, collaboration |
| Business | $100/user | ~A$140/user | ~A$140.45/user | $30 USD monthly credits per user, $2 USD daily login credits, training opt-out by default |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom + any applicable GST | No training data use, SAML SSO, RBAC, priority performance, guaranteed support SLAs |
Notes: - All prices in USD. AUD conversions use an indicative ×1.40 exchange rate as at June 2026; the rate moves, so treat the AUD figures as a guide and check the live rate before quoting. - Vercel's tax page confirms it began collecting VAT/GST or equivalent for international customers from 1 April 2026, but only in jurisdictions where it is registered, and the page does not list Australia by name (primary source: vercel.com/docs/pricing/taxes, checked 20 June 2026). Australian customers should expect a GST line on their invoice but confirm it on their own billing rather than assume it. - There is no AUD-native billing. No AUD pricing is displayed on v0.app/pricing. - A "Premium" plan at US$20/month appears in some documentation but is listed on the pricing page as being phased out for new users. New subscribers are directed to Team. - The credit system is token-based: more complex prompts and larger model selections (Mini, Pro, Max, Max Fast) consume credits faster. Unused monthly credits do not roll over. - Additional credits can be purchased on Team, Business, and Enterprise plans; purchased credits expire after one year.
How it works / features
You open v0.app, type a description of what you want to build, and the tool generates a working interface. The result is code — specifically React components using Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui. You see it rendered live in a preview panel. From there, you converse to refine it: "make the table sortable," "change the primary colour to navy," "add a login modal."
Core features:
- Prompt-to-UI generation — converts natural language into React/Next.js code with live preview. Generation time for a simple dashboard is roughly 20–30 seconds.
- Multiple AI models — v0 Mini (fastest, cheapest), v0 Pro, v0 Max, v0 Max Fast. More capable models use more credits per generation.
- Design Mode — visual editor allowing typography, colour, spacing, and border adjustments by clicking elements in the preview. No code required for these tweaks.
- Figma import — on Plus (formerly Team) and above, import a Figma design and v0 converts it to React code.
- GitHub sync — connect a repository and v0 creates branches from your conversations.
- One-click Vercel deploy — publish directly from the chat interface to Vercel's hosting.
- Multi-language code output — primarily React/JavaScript, but also Python, Rust, and SQL for supporting scripts.
- Community templates — browse and fork community-created starting points.
What it does well
Speed of UI prototyping. A reasonably capable developer can go from blank page to working, styled interface in under five minutes. That is genuinely faster than any manual approach. For startups and technical teams, this compresses the time between idea and working prototype considerably.
Code quality. The output is not throwaway scaffold code. It produces clean, well-structured components that follow current React conventions. The shadcn/ui component library underpinning the output is a widely adopted industry standard.
Design Mode makes it approachable. Non-developers can make meaningful visual changes — swap a font, adjust padding, change a button colour — without touching code. This is more useful than it sounds for reviewing and iterating on a prototype before handing it to a developer.
Figma to code. Designers working in Figma can import their mockups and get working React code. The conversion is imperfect on complex designs but saves hours of manual translation.
Vercel deployment is genuinely smooth. If you are already in the Vercel ecosystem, the deploy-from-chat workflow is fast. Vercel does operate a Sydney, Australia (syd1) infrastructure region, so deployed applications can run on Australian servers — relevant if you want low-latency serving for Australian users.
Where it falls short
You still need a developer. This is the fundamental limitation and it is not a minor one. v0 generates front-end components. It does not build the backend that makes those components do anything useful. There are no API routes, no database connections, no authentication flows unless you write or extend the code yourself. A landing page generated by v0 is a static HTML render — it has no form submissions going anywhere, no data being saved, no user accounts. To turn v0 output into a real product, you need a developer.
React only. v0 outputs React/Next.js code. If your existing website or platform is built on anything else — WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, Shopify's theme system, a PHP application — v0's output is not compatible without developer work to adapt it.
The credit system is confusing and can be expensive. The free tier gives you US$5 of credits, which equates to roughly 7–15 generations depending on complexity. A single complex prompt on v0 Max Fast costs materially more than a simple query on v0 Mini. There is no clear per-generation price shown upfront. Users frequently report exhausting their monthly credits faster than expected on iterative projects.
Inconsistent instruction-following. v0 often drifts from specific prompts on longer sessions. Ask it to build a five-step form with specific validation rules and you may get three steps with no validation, requiring multiple follow-up prompts — each of which burns credits.
No Australian support presence. There is no Australia-based support. Free plan users are directed to community forums. Paid plan users get ticket-based support through Vercel's standard channels, with no published response time SLAs below Enterprise level.
Training data. On Free and Team plans, Vercel may use de-identified AI product information to improve its models. If your prompts contain business-sensitive information — proprietary processes, unreleased product ideas — this is worth knowing. Business plan adds training opt-out by default; Enterprise guarantees your data is never used for training.
Australian fit
v0 is a US-headquartered product with US infrastructure priorities. Here is what Australian users actually face:
Billing currency: USD only. No AUD billing option. Australian customers pay in USD and see the AUD equivalent on their bank statements at the prevailing exchange rate.
GST: Vercel began collecting VAT/GST or equivalent for international customers from 1 April 2026, in jurisdictions where it is registered, with the tax added automatically based on billing address. Vercel's tax page does not name Australia specifically, so Australian customers should expect — but verify on their own invoice — that GST adds roughly 10% on top of the USD list price.
Data residency for the v0 AI service: v0's AI generation, user prompts, and conversation history are processed and stored on US infrastructure. Vercel's privacy policy states that data may be stored and processed outside your country of residence. There is no Australian or Asia-Pacific data residency option for the v0 AI service itself. For businesses with data sovereignty concerns — particularly financial services, healthcare, or legal — this is a material issue.
Vercel's Sydney region (syd1): This is for infrastructure deployment of the applications you build with v0 — not for the v0 AI service itself. Your deployed website can serve Australian users from Sydney. Your prompts and generated code still flow through US infrastructure. This distinction matters.
AUD pricing awareness: None. The v0 pricing page shows USD only, with no footnote about currency conversion or GST for international users.
Australian support: No local presence, no Australian business hours support, no phone or live chat. Community forum and ticket support only.
AI training on your prompts: Free and Plus plan users' de-identified prompts may be used for model training. Business plan opts out by default. The wording is "de-identified" — if your prompts contain unique business logic or IP, consider whether de-identification is sufficient for your risk tolerance.
Score
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Value for Money | 3/5 | The free tier burns through in a few sessions on real projects. Team at US$30/user (~A$42 converted for GST) is reasonable for developers but expensive for occasional use. Credit unpredictability hurts. |
| Ease of Use | 3/5 | The chat interface and Design Mode are accessible. But the fundamental output — React code — requires developer skills to use. For non-technical Australian business owners, this is a 2/5; for developers, it is a 4/5. |
| Feature Depth | 4/5 | Impressive breadth: multi-model selection, Figma import, GitHub sync, Design Mode, deployment. Core UI generation quality is excellent. Backend limitations are a ceiling, not a flaw in isolation. |
| Australian Fit | 1/5 | USD billing only, international VAT/GST added from April 2026 but no AUD pricing shown, no AU data residency for the AI service, no local support, no AU-aware outputs. A Sydney deployment region exists for hosted apps but is separate from the v0 AI service. |
| Reliability & Support | 2/5 | SOC 2 Type 2 certified, solid uptime record. But support below Enterprise is forum and ticket only with no published SLAs. Inconsistent instruction-following on complex prompts is a documented user complaint. |
| Total | 13/25 |
★★★ Good (raw score 13/25)
Australian Fit gate: This tool scores 1/5 on Australian Fit. Under the publication's mandatory gate, ★★★★★ Excellent requires Australian Fit ≥ 4/5. v0 displays three stars — its raw score, not a capped rating. See our review methodology for the full gate rules.
Bottom line
If you are a React or Next.js developer — or you work with one — v0 is worth trying on the free tier today. It compresses UI prototyping from hours to minutes and the output quality is genuinely high. At US$30/user/month (~A$42 once converted for GST) for Team, it earns its keep if you are building front-ends regularly.
If you are a non-technical Australian small business owner who wants to build or launch a website, v0 is the wrong tool. It produces code, not a finished site. Without a developer to integrate, deploy, and maintain that code, you are left with a beautiful preview that does nothing. Look at Framer, Webflow, or Squarespace if you want a site you can manage yourself, or Lovable and Bolt.new if you want AI-assisted building without needing to manage React code yourself.
If you have data sovereignty requirements — you are in financial services, healthcare, or legal — the US-only data residency on v0's AI service is a red line. Your prompts and generated code are processed in the United States. That may or may not be acceptable depending on your industry obligations.
If you are a freelance designer who wants to convert Figma designs to code for developer handoff, v0's Figma import on the Plus plan is a legitimate time-saver. At roughly A$42/month once converted for GST, that calculus depends on how often you use it.
Update history
- 1 Oct 2026 — Prices re-checked on v0's pricing page from Australia. The US$30-a-user plan was called Team; it is now called Plus, with the same US$30 of monthly credits; Business stays at US$100 a user and Free at US$0. Prices are in US dollars and exclude GST. Archived copy.
- 20 Jun 2026 — First reviewed.
- 24 Sep 2026 — 1 Australian figure recut to the current basis. It was converted at about 1.54 — the retired basis — inside a column headed ex-GST whose other rows were already at 1.4045. Corrected to US$1 = A$1.4045 (Frankfurter/ECB, 18 September 2026): Business ~A$154.00/user → ~A$140.45/user. No USD price moved and no score changed.
reviewed:untouched per our dating rule. - 24 Sep 2026 — The AUD column was never grossed up for GST, and every word around it said it was. The header read “gross-up; GST unconfirmed” and the note beneath described a 10% uplift — while the figures themselves are plain conversions at 1.4045. Checked before changing a word: across the 63 files carrying this wording, 141 rows convert at 1.4045 and none at 1.4045 × 1.10. No figure changed here; only the description of them did. Two things were wrong beyond the arithmetic: gross-up names a tax uplift and was being used for a currency conversion, and GST unconfirmed is stale — our GST rule settled it on 5 September 2026, and a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service. No USD price moved and no score changed.

Frequently asked questions
Is v0 available in Australia?
Yes. v0 by Vercel works from Australia, and Vercel runs a Sydney (syd1) region — but that's for hosting the apps you deploy, not for the v0 AI service itself. There's no Australian support presence, business hours, phone or live chat.
Does v0 charge in AUD?
No. v0 prices in USD only, with no AUD billing. Since 1 April 2026 Vercel collects VAT/GST or equivalent for international customers where it's registered, but its tax page doesn't name Australia — expect roughly 10% on top and confirm the GST line on your own invoice.
Is there a free plan?
Yes, but it's small. The free tier gives US$5 of monthly credits — roughly 7–15 generations depending on complexity — with a 7-messages-a-day limit, Design Mode and GitHub sync. Users frequently exhaust it in a few sessions on real projects. Team is US$30/user/month.
Where is my prompt data stored?
On US infrastructure. v0's AI generation, prompts and conversation history are processed and stored in the US, with no Australian or Asia-Pacific data residency option. The Sydney region only hosts deployed apps. For financial services, healthcare or legal work, that's a red line.
Can a non-technical Australian business owner use v0?
Not really. v0 outputs React code, not a finished website — there's no backend, no form submissions, no saved data unless a developer builds it. If you want a site you can manage yourself, look at Framer, Webflow or Squarespace instead.
