Framer Review Australia 2026: The Designer's AI Builder?

The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictVerdict (TL;DR): Framer builds the most polished, animated marketing sites in this category — closer to a designer's tool than a beginner's. Its AI generates and restyles fast, but you get the most out of it if you think a little visually. Buy it for a high-end brand, product or portfolio site where look-and-feel is the point. Skip it if you want bookings, a real store, or hand-holding — Framer assumes some taste and patience. It now bills Australians in Australian dollars, which it did not when we first reviewed it.

What Framer is
Framer started as a design and prototyping tool and grew into a full website builder — and that heritage shows in the output. Sites built in Framer look like a studio made them: smooth animations, precise typography, the kind of motion and polish you normally pay an agency for. It's a Dutch company (Amsterdam) serving a global, design-literate audience.
The AI layer generates a starting site from a prompt and helps restyle and rewrite as you go. But Framer's centre of gravity is still the canvas — a powerful, layout-precise editor closer to Figma than to Wix. For a designer or a design-minded founder, that's the appeal. For a true non-designer, it's a steeper start than the one-prompt builders.
What it costs in Australia
Framer now shows Australian visitors prices in Australian dollars, with any applicable sales tax added at checkout based on location. When we first reviewed it in June 2026 the same page showed USD (Basic US$10, Pro US$30, and a US$100 Scale tier that no longer exists); read again in the in-app browser on an Australian connection on 28 September 2026, the ladder is AUD and runs on monthly AI credits. There's still a real free plan on a Framer subdomain.
| Plan | AUD per month (yearly billing) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | A$0 | 500 AI credits to try, Framer subdomain, 1 GB bandwidth, page design |
| Basic | A$13 | 1,000 AI credits a month, free custom domain, 2 CMS collections, 50 GB bandwidth, built-in SEO; localisation is an add-on |
| Pro | A$40 | 3,000 AI credits a month, free custom domain, 10 CMS collections, 100 GB bandwidth, redirects, staging, branching with previews; advanced hosting and A/B testing are add-ons |
| Enterprise | Custom | Volume credit discounts, custom limits, unlimited editors, SSO and SCIM, uptime guarantee |
Extras are priced in AUD too: additional editors A$26 a month each (viewers are free), content editors A$13, each extra locale A$26, and Pro overages of A$26 per 100 pages or per 10,000 CMS items and A$53 per 10 CMS collections or per 100 GB. The figures above are the yearly-billing rates the page shows by default; the month-to-month toggle did not respond to our browser, so budget for those running higher. Because Framer applies tax at checkout, a GST-registered business should expect GST on the invoice rather than having to self-assess it; confirm the document meets tax-invoice requirements before you rely on it for a BAS.
How it works in practice
Start from an AI prompt and Framer produces a clean, modern site you then refine on the canvas. The refining is where Framer separates from the pack: you have genuine control over layout, motion and type, and the ceiling is high — you can build something that genuinely looks bespoke. AI tools speed up generating sections, rewriting copy and translating the site into other languages.
The trade-off is the floor. The canvas rewards visual instinct; a non-designer can absolutely make a great site, but it takes longer and more iteration than Durable's 30 seconds or Wix's guided flow. Framer is also marketing-site-shaped: it excels at landing pages, brand sites, portfolios and product launches, and is not the tool for a real store with inventory, or for bookings.
For its target — anyone who cares deeply how the site looks and is willing to spend the time — the result is the best-looking output in this roundup.
What it does well
- Best-looking, most animated sites in the category. Studio-grade motion and typography out of a no-code tool.
- High ceiling. Real layout and design control — you can build something genuinely bespoke, not template-shaped.
- Strong AI assist for design and copy, plus AI translation/localisation for multi-market sites.
- Excellent performance. Framer sites are fast and well-built under the hood.
- Generous free tier to learn on before paying.
What it doesn't do well
- Steeper for non-designers. The canvas is powerful but assumes some visual instinct and patience.
- Marketing-site-shaped. No real ecommerce or bookings — wrong tool for a store or a service-scheduling business.
- Credits meter the AI. Every paid plan runs on a monthly credit allowance (1,000 on Basic, 3,000 on Pro) shared across the workspace; lean on the agents and you are buying a bigger plan or top-ups.
- Lock-in. Proprietary platform — no export to self-host.
- No Australian data residency. Hosting is offshore; no AU region.
Australian fit
Framer has fixed the thing that held its Australian fit back in June: it now prices in Australian dollars for Australian visitors (Basic A$13, Pro A$40 a month on yearly billing, editors A$26), and it adds sales tax at checkout based on location, so an Australian buyer should see GST on the invoice rather than self-assessing it. Whether that document is a fully compliant tax invoice for your BAS is still worth confirming before you rely on it.
Beyond billing, there's no Australian hosting region, support is online and community-led on non-AU time, and the AI copy defaults to US spelling. None of that dents Framer's appeal for a design-led brand site — but for an everyday Australian small business that wants a store or a booking system, Framer simply isn't aimed at them. Australian Fit: 3/5, up from 2/5 in June on the strength of native AUD billing; onshore hosting and Australian-hours support would be needed for a 4.
Alternatives
- Squarespace — consider it if you want near-Framer polish with a store, bookings and a GST invoice out of the box. (See our Squarespace review.)
- Wix — consider it if you need bookings, a store and feature breadth. Our Top Pick. (See our Wix review.)
- Durable — consider it if you want fast and simple over beautiful and considered. (See our Durable review.)
Bottom line
Framer is the connoisseur's pick. If the site is the shopfront for a brand, a product launch or a creative portfolio — and you (or someone on your team) have a little design sense — nothing else in this category produces output this sharp. The AI gets you started; the canvas lets you finish to a standard the one-prompt builders can't reach.
It's not the pick for an everyday Australian small business that wants a store and bookings — that's Wix or Squarespace. Framer is a deliberately different proposition: design quality above all, at the cost of a steeper learning curve. The USD-billing objection we raised in June is gone; it prices in AUD now. Buy it for that, and it delivers. Just go in knowing it's a designer's tool wearing a no-code label.
Score
| Criterion | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Value for Money | 3/5 | Generous free tier; Basic A$13 and Pro A$40 on yearly billing are fair, now in AUD, but AI credits meter the headline feature |
| Ease of Use | 3/5 | Powerful canvas with a high ceiling, but a steeper start for non-designers |
| Feature Depth | 4/5 | Class-leading design/animation/CMS; no real ecommerce or bookings |
| Australian Fit | 3/5 | Native AUD pricing with tax added at checkout (was 2/5 on USD billing in June); still no AU hosting region and no local-hours support |
| Reliability & Support | 4/5 | Fast, stable hosting; capable but community-led, non-AU-time support |
| Total | 17/25 | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good |
Update history
- 28 Sep 2026 — Framer bills Australians in AUD, and this review said the opposite. Score 16 → 17/25. framer.com/pricing, read in the in-app browser on an Australian connection: Free A$0, Basic A$13, Pro A$40 a month on yearly billing, extra editors A$26, content editors A$13, locales A$26, Pro overages from A$26 — eight
A$strings in the markup and no struck-through list price. The June review recorded USD (US$10 / US$30 / a US$100 Scale tier) and built its Australian Fit rationale on it; that reading was true on 7 June (Wayback of that day shows dollars with noA$), so this is a vendor change, not an original error. The ladder is also new: no Scale tier, and every paid plan is metered by monthly AI credits (1,000 Basic, 3,000 Pro). Australian Fit 2 → 3/5: the cell's own stated reasons were "USD billing … no AUD pricing"; onshore hosting and local-hours support are still missing, so not 4. Total 17/25, four stars, the Australian Fit gate unaffected (below the five-star band). Pricing section, verdict, limitations, Australian fit, alternatives, bottom line, FAQ and its JSON-LD twin rewritten;aud_native: true. The month-to-month toggle did not respond to the browser, so only yearly-billing rates are printed. Source - 7 Jun 2026 — First reviewed.
Frequently asked questions
Is Framer available in Australia?
Yes. It's a global web tool from a Dutch company and works fine here, with a real free plan on a Framer-branded subdomain.
Does Framer charge in AUD?
Yes — as of 28 September 2026 Framer's pricing page shows Australian visitors prices in Australian dollars (Basic A$13 and Pro A$40 a month on yearly billing, extra editors A$26), with any applicable sales tax added at checkout based on location, so GST should appear on the invoice. In June 2026 the same page showed USD. Confirm the document is a compliant tax invoice before relying on it.

Yes. Framer's free tier is generous — a Framer subdomain, AI access, 10 CMS collections and 1,000 pages — enough to learn on before paying.
Who is Framer best for?
A high-end brand, product or portfolio site where look-and-feel is the point, and where you (or someone on your team) think a little like a designer. It builds the most polished, animated sites in the category.
Can I build a store or take bookings with Framer?
No. Framer is marketing-site-shaped — no real ecommerce or bookings. For a store or service-scheduling business, Wix or Squarespace are the right tools.
