Sunsama Review (Australia 2026): A Premium Daily Planner With Light AI
- From
- A$23.80/mo · ex-GST · billed in USD (US$17)
The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictPricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).
Verdict (TL;DR): Sunsama is one of the most thoughtfully designed daily planners available. The guided daily ritual is genuinely effective, the integrations are deep, and the focus it brings to a chaotic workday is real. But the AI is modest — it tags tasks and guesses time estimates based on your history. It does not schedule your day for you. At USD $17/month (~AU$24 ex-GST), it is one of the most expensive individual productivity apps on the market. If the ritual genuinely changes how you work, the price is justified. If you are looking for AI-driven scheduling magic, look elsewhere.

What Sunsama is
Sunsama is a daily planning application built around two rituals: a guided morning planning session and an evening shutdown. Each morning, the app walks you through pulling tasks from connected tools — Asana, Jira, Linear, Notion, Todoist, Gmail, Slack, and more — and committing them to your calendar as timeblocked work. At the end of the day, a shutdown ritual prompts you to review progress and close out.
It is made by Summay, Inc., a US-based company. The product launched around 2019 and has been deliberately slow-growth — one paid plan, no free tier, and a pricing philosophy that openly rejects growth-at-all-costs thinking.
The "AI" in Sunsama is real but limited. When you add a task, the app automatically suggests a time estimate and a work channel (project category) based on patterns from your previous work. It also now supports MCP (Model Context Protocol), meaning AI assistants like Claude can connect directly to your Sunsama data to read and update tasks. That is genuinely useful if you already use an AI assistant heavily. What Sunsama's AI does not do: it will not autonomously block your calendar, move tasks when you fall behind, or suggest what to work on. The human drives the ritual; the AI fills in some details.
What it costs in Australia
Sunsama is priced in USD. There is no AUD billing.
| Plan | USD | AUD (approx, ex-GST) |
|---|---|---|
| Pro — annual | USD $17/month | ~AU$23.80/month |
| Pro — monthly | USD $22/month | ~AU$30.80/month |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | — |
AUD conversions at approx. 1 USD = 1.40 AUD as of September 2026. Figures are ex-GST: a GST-registered business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers add ~10%.
There is no free plan. A 14-day free trial with full access to all features is available, with no credit card required. The annual plan offers approximately 23 per cent off compared to monthly billing.
For teams, the pricing page shows no team tier and no team discount: it lists one Pro plan and, above it, Enterprise for custom security and billing needs. Budget the Pro price for each person who needs their own account.
How it works in practice
The morning ritual is the product's defining moment. You open Sunsama, run through a guided flow, and the app presents your tasks from connected tools in a single inbox. You drag what you actually plan to do today onto a timeline alongside your calendar. You set time estimates and assign tasks to channels. When you commit, those tasks become blocks on your calendar.
This process takes 10–20 minutes for most people. That is either a valuable investment or an infuriating overhead, depending on how you work.
During the day, a focus timer helps you work through your list. Completing a task is satisfying — the visual progress against your day plan is immediate. The shutdown ritual prompts you to roll unfinished tasks forward.
The integrations are genuinely deep. Sunsama can pull tasks from Asana, ClickUp, GitHub, Jira, Linear, Notion, Todoist, and Trello. Calendar integration with Google Calendar and Outlook is two-way — events appear in your timeline. Gmail and Outlook email can be turned into tasks directly. Slack messages can be captured as tasks. The MCP server (as of mid-2026) lets AI assistants query and update your Sunsama tasks.
Data privacy is solid. Sunsama uses an open-source AI model hosted in its own cloud — your task data, calendar events, and notes are not sent to third-party AI providers and are not used to train any AI model. The company holds SOC 2 compliance certification.
What it does well
The ritual works. Blocking 15 minutes to plan your day sounds obvious, but Sunsama's guided flow makes it hard to skip. Users report that it forces realistic workload assessment — you see the time estimates stack up against the hours available and you cut things rather than pretend you can do everything.
Integrations are best-in-class for this category. Being able to pull from Jira, Linear, and Notion simultaneously into a single daily view, without copy-pasting, is a meaningful time saving.
No context switching. Once you have planned your day, Sunsama is the only tab you need open. The focus timer, notes, and task completion all live in one place.
Honest pricing philosophy. Sunsama's pricing manifesto is worth reading. It explains why there is no free tier, no fake sales, and no psychological pricing tricks. Whether you agree or not, the company has stuck to it.
Privacy is better than most. Your data stays within Sunsama's own infrastructure. No training on your tasks, no third-party AI API calls with your content.
What it doesn't do well
The AI is thin. Time estimates and channel tagging are useful but they are not the autonomous AI planning many people expect in 2026. Sunsama does not reschedule tasks when your day falls apart. It does not suggest priorities. There is no natural language input for "plan my day around this deadline." If you are paying a productivity-tool premium for AI, Reclaim.ai or Motion deliver more scheduling automation.
The price is steep for what you get. At roughly AU$24/month (ex-GST, annual), Sunsama costs more per month than Notion AI, ChatGPT Plus, or most category rivals. For solo users, this is a significant outlay for a planner with modest AI.
No free plan. The 14-day trial is generous. But once it ends, you pay or you leave. For cash-strapped Australian freelancers or early-career workers, that is a hard stop.
Not built for teams. Sunsama is personal-first. It can pull from team tools but it has no shared project views, no task assignment to others, no team reporting. If you need a tool your whole team uses, look at Asana or ClickUp.
US infrastructure. Sunsama's servers are US-based. For Australian businesses with data residency requirements — healthcare, finance, government — this matters. The company is SOC 2 certified, which provides some assurance, but AU data residency is not available.
Mobile app is secondary. The core experience is browser or desktop. The mobile apps exist but the daily ritual is clearly designed for a desk, not a phone.
Australian fit
Sunsama is available to Australians with no known geographic restrictions. The interface is in English. Australian holidays and timezones work correctly with Google Calendar integration.
The pricing gap is a problem. USD $17/month becomes roughly AU$24/month once GST is applied. That is the actual cost for an Australian subscriber, and it is a meaningful jump from the USD figure marketed on the site.
Support is US-based. There is no AU-specific documentation, AU-localised onboarding, or AU business context in the planning flows. The tool is not built for the Australian market — it just happens to work here.
Australian Fit score: 2/5. The tool functions in Australia and has reasonable data privacy, but it offers no local infrastructure, no AUD pricing, and no AU-specific features. The GST markup adds roughly 10 per cent to an already-premium price.
Alternatives worth considering
Reclaim.ai — If you want AI-driven autonomous scheduling, not a manual ritual, Reclaim does far more with your calendar. Cheaper than Sunsama on most plans.
Motion — Full AI calendar scheduling. Motion will move meetings and tasks automatically as your day changes. Heavier tool; steeper learning curve.
Notion AI — If you already live in Notion, the AI add-on gives you writing and task management without a separate planner subscription.
Bottom line
Sunsama is the best pure daily-planning ritual on the market. If you want a structured, intentional start to your workday, and you will actually use the morning ritual daily, it earns its price. The integrations are deep, the privacy stance is honest, and the workflow is elegant.
But Australians need to go in with clear expectations. The AI is an assistant, not an autopilot. The monthly cost in AUD with GST is steeper than any comparable local competitor. And there is no path to AU data residency for businesses that need it.
If you are a freelancer, consultant, or knowledge worker who has tried every to-do app and found them all lacking discipline — Sunsama is worth a serious 14-day trial. If you are primarily chasing AI-driven scheduling power, spend your money on Motion or Reclaim.

sunsama.com/pricingon an Australian connection: Pro $17 a month billed yearly, $22 billed monthly, marked "(USD)"; Enterprise contact us; 14-day free trial, no card. Both table figures hold. The paragraph beneath the table said extra team members pay US$25 monthly or US$20 annually, which contradicted the table and appears nowhere on the vendor's page; it now says what the page shows — one Pro plan, no team tier or team discount below Enterprise. Score unchanged. Source · captureDossiers/captures/sunsama-pricing-2026-09-29.txt - 21 Sep 2026 — The grossed-up AUD column removed from the pricing table. The table carried a second Australian column adding 10% GST to every converted figure, so each plan had two Australian prices and the higher one asserted a tax most of our readers do not pay: under the ATO rule our GST treatment rests on, a GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service. Nothing was re-cut — the ex-GST column is unchanged and is the price. Removed, and kept visible here per our price-history rule: the column headed "AUD (approx, if GST charged, +10%)" (Pro — annual ~AU$26.18/month; Pro — monthly ~AU$33.88/month). The GST position is stated in words once in the note above the pricing table. No USD price moved and no score changed.
