Glean Review: Enterprise AI Work Assistant for Australian Businesses

The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictVerdict (TL;DR): Glean is the most credible enterprise AI search and assistant platform on the market right now. It connects AI to your real company data — Slack, Jira, Confluence, Salesforce, SharePoint and 100+ more apps — and gives every employee a single place to find answers and automate work. For Australian organisations that can afford the entry price and are comfortable with US-hosted data, it delivers real productivity gains. For smaller teams, or anyone with strict data sovereignty requirements, look elsewhere.
Score: 16/25 — ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good

Updated 6 September 2026: the TX-RAMP Level 2 certification claim was withdrawn — it is not on Glean's Trust Center. No other change; score unchanged.
What Glean is
Glean is an enterprise AI platform built by former Google Search engineers. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Palo Alto, California, it has raised significant venture funding from Sequoia, Lightspeed, General Catalyst, Kleiner Perkins, and others.
The core idea: most companies run dozens of SaaS tools, and institutional knowledge is scattered across all of them. Glean indexes everything — your Slack conversations, Google Drive files, Confluence pages, Jira tickets, GitHub repos, Salesforce records, SharePoint documents — and makes it searchable and queryable through a single AI assistant.
It is not a chatbot. It is not a note-taker. It is a horizontal AI work platform that sits across your entire enterprise stack.
Glean has three main pillars: - Glean Search — AI-powered enterprise search that respects existing permissions (you only see what you already have access to) - Glean Assistant — an AI chat interface grounded in your company's actual data, not just general LLM knowledge - Glean Agents — a no-code agent builder that lets teams automate multi-step work tasks using company context
Customers include Booking.com (14,000 employees), Zillow, Reddit, Databricks, Canva, Samsung, and Intuit. Canva is the most prominent publicly listed Australian customer.
What it costs in Australia
Glean does not publish pricing publicly. It is entirely sales-led. (Industry reports place per-seat costs in the range of USD $25–$40 per user per month at enterprise scale, but Glean has not confirmed this publicly and contracts are negotiated individually.)
What is confirmed: there is no free trial and no self-serve option. You book a demo, then negotiate. Contracts are annual minimums with no small-business tier.
AUD conversion guide (for budgeting only — confirm with Glean sales): If pricing were USD $30/user/month, that converts to approximately AUD $42.00/user/month at USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026), ex-GST. For a 100-person team that is roughly AUD $50,400 per year ex-GST (estimate) — before implementation costs.
This is enterprise budget territory. Glean is not a tool for small or mid-market Australian businesses.
How it works in practice
Once Glean is connected to your apps (via OAuth or API connectors), it crawls and indexes your content. The index respects your existing permission structures — if a user cannot see a document in SharePoint, they cannot see it via Glean either. This is a genuine differentiator from generic AI tools.
The search experience is straightforward: type a query, get ranked results with source citations. The AI assistant lets you ask questions like "what did the product team decide about the billing redesign last month?" and it synthesises an answer from relevant Slack threads, Confluence pages, and Jira tickets, with citations back to the originals.
The Agent Builder lets non-technical staff create automated workflows in plain English. Glean also integrates directly inside Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Zendesk, and GitHub, so employees never have to leave their existing tools.
Glean's own research claims users average 110 hours saved per year and 93% enterprise adoption within two years. These figures come from Glean's Work AI Institute report and should be treated as vendor-supplied data, not independent audit findings.
What it does well
Permission-aware search is genuinely rare. Most AI tools either lack access to internal data entirely, or require manual document uploads. Glean's connector architecture means search is live, comprehensive, and stays within your existing access controls.
Breadth of connectors. 100+ apps confirmed on the Glean website. This covers all the tools Australian enterprises actually run: Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Atlassian, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Slack, GitHub, Zendesk. The breadth is real.
Security architecture is enterprise-grade. Glean holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, ISO/IEC 42001:2023 and HIPAA certifications, per its Trust Center (re-checked 5 September 2026). An earlier draft of this review also listed TX-RAMP Level 2; that claim is not on the Trust Center and has been withdrawn until Glean publishes it. Single-tenant deployments are available. Zero-retention agreements with model providers mean your data is not used to train LLMs. APAC-region deployment options exist, per the Glean security page.
Agent governance built in. The ability to audit every query, control which agents can access which data, and set acceptable-use policies is enterprise-standard practice. Glean has this built into the platform from the ground up.
Verified customer scale. Booking.com deployed to 14,000 employees and described Glean as "the first AI platform adopted worldwide." Zillow achieved 80% adoption with users saving 1.5+ hours weekly. These are verifiable case studies linked from Glean's site, not unsourced marketing claims.
What it doesn't do well
It is not built for small or mid-market teams. You need enough connected apps and enough organisational content to make the search valuable. A 10-person business with three tools will get little return.
No public pricing slows down procurement. Australian procurement teams expect to see price lists. The sales-only model adds weeks — sometimes months — to buying decisions.
Data sovereignty requires active negotiation. Glean's default infrastructure is US-based. While APAC region options exist, it is not publicly confirmed whether Australian-specific data residency (data stored within Australia) is available. Any Australian organisation handling personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles must confirm data residency in writing before deployment. (whether an Australian-region data centre option exists; confirm directly with Glean.)
Implementation takes months, not days. Connecting 100+ apps, mapping permissions, configuring agents, and training staff is a significant IT project. Budget for professional services costs on top of the licence fee.
No low-risk evaluation path. There is no free tier, no trial, and no month-to-month option. You are committing before you have meaningfully tested the product at scale.
No Australian-specific features. No ATO or BAS connectors, no MYOB or Xero integration listed publicly, no AU regulatory compliance built in. It is a global enterprise product deployed to an Australian context, not built for it.
Australian fit
Glean is available to Australian organisations and some are already using it. But the fit requires careful diligence.
Key considerations for Australian buyers: - Privacy Act 1988: Every Slack message, HR document, and customer record that Glean indexes is personal information subject to the Australian Privacy Principles. Data must be stored and processed in accordance with those principles. Get data residency confirmed in the contract. - Pricing in USD: Currency exposure is real on large multi-year contracts. - GST: Enterprise software licence fees from a US vendor are typically taxable supplies in Australia under the GST on imported services rules. Confirm with your tax adviser. - Support hours: Glean's primary support operations are US-based. Enterprise SLAs may address this, but confirm coverage for AEST business hours. - No AU tool connectors: MYOB, Xero, Employment Hero, and other Australian-specific business tools are not listed in Glean's connector catalogue.
The product is powerful. The Australian fit is conditional — on data residency terms, legal review, and a procurement process equipped to handle US enterprise SaaS contracts.
Alternatives
Microsoft 365 Copilot — If your organisation already runs Microsoft (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook), Copilot is the more integrated option with established Australian data centre commitments. More limited cross-platform scope but lower deployment friction and clearer AU data residency.
Atlassian Rovo — If your team is Atlassian-heavy, Rovo delivers similar AI search and agent capability within that ecosystem. Atlassian is Australian-founded, has strong local market presence, and offers clearer data commitments. Easier and cheaper to trial.
Notion AI — For smaller teams already in Notion, a lighter-weight AI knowledge assistant. Not enterprise-grade for large organisations, but genuinely useful and far easier to evaluate without a sales conversation.
Bottom line
Glean is the most technically credible enterprise AI work assistant available. If you run a large Australian organisation — 500+ employees, comfortable with US-hosted enterprise SaaS, willing to invest in implementation — it belongs on your shortlist.
If you are a small or mid-market Australian business, it is not for you. The pricing, the sales process, and the implementation burden are built for large enterprises.
The data sovereignty question is the decisive one for any Australian buyer. Confirm data residency terms in writing before you sign anything. Do not rely on verbal assurances.

Update history
- 9 Oct 2026 — Re-checked for the AUD-claim queue (#436) on an Australian connection: glean.com/pricing redirects to the home page and the site offers only "Get a demo" — no figure in any currency — so the sales-led finding stands, the US$25–40 per user industry estimate stays unconfirmed, and
aud_native: falsestands. Capture:Dossiers/captures/glean-pricing-2026-10-09.txt. - 21 Sep 2026 — The budgeting guide's “or approximately AUD $46/user/month if GST is charged” removed. The ex-GST figure beside it, AUD $42.00 for a hypothetical USD $30 seat, is unchanged, and the 100-person annual estimate in the next sentence was already stated ex-GST — so the guide offered a grossed-up per-seat figure and an ex-GST annual one in consecutive sentences. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; an unregistered buyer should allow ~10% on top. Glean still publishes no price, and the whole section remains labelled a budgeting illustration, not a quote. No score changed. Superseded figure kept visible per our price-history rule;
