Verdict (TL;DR): Rebuy is a focused, effective way to add AI-driven upsells, cross-sells and cart personalisation to a Shopify store. It can lift average order value meaningfully — but it's Shopify-only, billed in USD, and the per-order pricing climbs steeply as your order volume grows. Best for growing stores that can measure the return.

What Rebuy is

Rebuy is a US-based personalisation platform built specifically for Shopify. Its job is narrow and clear: increase the value of each order. It uses AI to recommend products in the cart, at checkout and post-purchase — "customers also bought," smart bundles, one-click upsells on the thank-you page. Where Klaviyo works the email channel and Shopify Magic handles store-wide basics, Rebuy lives at the point of purchase.

It's a well-regarded app in the Shopify ecosystem, used by stores that have outgrown Shopify's native recommendations and want algorithmic upsells they can tune.

What it costs in Australia

Rebuy bills in USD and, as of June 2026, prices on a "build your own plan" basis rather than the fixed Starter/Scale/Pro/Grow tiers it published previously. You assemble the products you want and pay per order, so the cost scales with how many orders your store processes each month.

Plan Price (USD) Approx AUD (×1.40, ex-GST) Notes
Monetize Free $0 Post-purchase affiliate offers; earns ~US$0.20–0.35+/order
Build Your Own Plan from US$25/mo per package from ~A$35/mo À la carte, each base covering up to 500 orders a month: Checkout & Post-Purchase US$25 (checkout extensions are Shopify Plus only), Search & Collections US$35, Flows & A/B Testing US$35, Cart & Merchandising US$45. A per-order fee applies above 500; 10% off annual; multi-package discounts
Platform One Talk to sales Quote All packages, premium support, dedicated CSM; priced on orders per month, no firm figure published

GST: USD overseas charge — check your invoice for treatment. The watch-out is the order-volume scaling: the per-order fee means a higher-volume store pays materially more each month, so the economics only hold if the upsell lift keeps pace. A 14-day free trial lets you test that before committing. (Note: Rebuy retired its old fixed US$99/$249/$499/$749 tiers; the current model starts lower at US$25/mo but climbs with orders.)

How it works in practice

Setup runs through the Shopify app. You build "smart cart" widgets and post-purchase offers, choosing whether recommendations are AI-driven or rules-based. The AI looks at purchase patterns to suggest complementary products; you can constrain it with rules ("never upsell below margin X").

The placements are the three moments where a store can move order value: the cart, the checkout, and the thank-you page after the customer has already paid. Cart and checkout widgets nudge a second item before payment. The post-purchase upsell is the one most stores underuse — it offers a one-click add-on after the transaction clears, so the customer doesn't re-enter card details and there's no risk to the sale you already made. Rebuy's whole reason to exist is owning those three slots better than Shopify's built-in "you may also like" block does.

The honest test is whether the extra average order value clears the monthly fee. For a growing store, your per-order Rebuy bill needs the upsells to add at least that much margin to break even — usually achievable, but not automatic. Rebuy's own reporting shows attributed revenue, which makes the maths checkable rather than faith-based. That attribution matters more than it sounds: it means you can run the 14-day trial, read off exactly how much extra revenue the widgets earned, and decide on numbers rather than a hunch. Most upsell apps make you take the lift on trust. This one hands you the receipt.

What it does well

  • Purpose-built for order value. Upsell, cross-sell and bundle logic that goes well beyond Shopify's native recommendations.
  • Tunable AI. You can blend algorithmic recommendations with hard rules.
  • Clear attribution. Reporting shows what the upsells earned, so ROI is measurable.
  • Risk-managed trial. 14–30 day trials plus a money-back guarantee.

What it doesn't do well

  • Shopify-only. No use to you on any other platform.
  • USD billing, order-scaled. Costs climb with success; the per-order model means a high-volume store pays materially more.
  • Narrow scope. It does upsells well and little else — it's an add-on, not a suite.
  • No AU data residency. Rebuy's privacy notice states it is US-based and that "personal information that we collect is sent to and stored on servers located in the United States" — no Australian data region.

Australian fit

Rebuy is functionally fine for Australian Shopify stores — it plugs into the same admin every local store uses, and Shopify itself is the dominant platform for Australian small-business e-commerce, so there's no compatibility hurdle. The friction is commercial. The bill arrives in USD, so your monthly cost moves with the AUD–USD rate as well as your order count; a soft Australian dollar makes a US$25/mo line item cost more in real terms one month than the next. There's no AUD billing option, no GST line on the invoice to reconcile cleanly against a BAS, and no Australian support tier — support runs on US hours, so an urgent checkout problem at 10am in Sydney lands outside the US working day.

On data, Rebuy's privacy notice is explicit that it is US-based and that personal information it collects is "sent to and stored on servers located in the United States." There's no Australian or even Asia-Pacific data region. For the kind of data Rebuy actually handles — which products tend to sell together, what a shopper added to a cart — the privacy stakes are low, and it's not the sensitive customer data a finance or health tool would hold. But it is still offshore, and a store with a strict data-residency stance should know that going in.

The practical Australian read: treat Rebuy as a growth-stage investment. At low order volumes the free Monetize tier or the entry "build your own plan" (from US$25/mo) is cheap enough to experiment with; as orders climb, run the average-order-value maths in AUD — converted at the real rate, not the headline USD — before committing. The order-scaled model means the tool gets more expensive precisely as you succeed, so the lift has to keep pace, not just appear once.

Alternatives

  • Shopify Magic — consider this if you want free native recommendations before paying for a specialist.
  • Nosto — consider this if you're enterprise-scale and want full-site personalisation, not just cart upsells.
  • Octane AI — consider this if quiz-led product discovery fits your catalogue better than cart upsells.

Bottom line

Rebuy does one job and does it well: squeezing more value from each order on a Shopify store. For a growing Australian store that can measure the average-order-value lift against the USD fee, it's a sound, focused investment. For a small store still finding its feet, the order-scaled pricing makes it premature — start with Shopify's native recommendations and add Rebuy once volume justifies it.

The verdict turns entirely on your numbers. Run the trial, watch the attributed revenue, and keep it only if the upsells clearly out-earn the bill.

Why we scored it this way

Value for Money — 3/5. The entry point is genuinely cheap: the free Monetize tier and the "build your own plan" from US$25/mo (~A$35/mo) let a store start almost for nothing. But the score is held to the middle by the order-scaled USD model. The fee rises with your order volume — the pricing calculator runs from 250 to 50,000 orders a month — so the headline price isn't the price you keep paying. Value depends entirely on whether the attributed upsell revenue out-earns a bill that grows as you do. That's a fair deal for a store measuring the return, but it's not cheap insurance, hence three rather than four.

Ease of Use — 3/5. Installation is a standard Shopify app flow, so there's no developer needed to get started. The drag-off is the widget tuning: deciding which placements to run, blending AI recommendations with margin rules, and dialling in the post-purchase offer takes some trial and reading of the reports. It's well within reach of a hands-on store owner, but it isn't a flip-the-switch tool — you get out what you put into the setup.

Feature Depth — 4/5. This is where Rebuy earns its keep. It owns three distinct upsell moments — cart, checkout, and the one-click post-purchase offer — and layers tunable AI on top of rule-based controls, with attribution reporting that shows what each placement earned. That's materially deeper than Shopify's native recommendations. The reason it's four and not five is scope: it does order value brilliantly and nothing else. It's a specialist add-on, not a personalisation suite, so a store wanting full-site personalisation will outgrow it.

Australian Fit — 2/5. The functional fit is fine — it runs inside the same Shopify admin every Australian store uses. The score is low because of the commercial and data picture: USD-only billing with no AUD option, no clean GST line, support on US hours, and a privacy notice confirming data is stored on US servers with no Australian region. None of it is disqualifying for a low-sensitivity upsell tool, but it's friction an Australian store carries every month, which is why this is the review's weakest criterion.

Reliability & Support — 4/5. Rebuy is an established, well-regarded fixture in the Shopify app ecosystem rather than a new entrant, which counts for stability at the checkout — the worst place for an app to fail. The 14-day trial plus a money-back guarantee mean you can prove it works on your own traffic before you're committed, lowering the risk of the spend. The half-mark off reflects the absence of an Australian support tier; help is there, but on US time.

  • 29 Sep 2026 — verified USD by browser. rebuyengine.com/pricing on an Australian connection; the page's own schema says USD, no A$. The build-your-own packages hold: Checkout & Post-Purchase US$25 a month, Search & Collections and Flows & A/B Testing US$35 each, Cart & Merchandising US$45, each covering up to 500 orders a month and 10% off billed annually. Corrected: the US$25 package's checkout extensions are for Shopify Plus stores only, so a standard Shopify store starts at US$35. Platform One is now "Talk to sales" with no firm price on the page, so the June US$534 figure is removed. The table header said "÷1.40" over figures multiplied by 1.40; fixed. Score unchanged. Frequently asked questions

Is Rebuy available in Australia?

Yes, functionally. It plugs into the same Shopify admin every Australian store uses, and Shopify is the dominant platform for AU small-business e-commerce, so there's no compatibility hurdle. The friction is commercial, not technical — it's Shopify-only and US-based.

Does Rebuy charge in AUD?

No. It bills in USD, so your cost moves with the AUD–USD rate as well as your order count. There's no AUD billing, no clean GST line for your BAS, and pricing is order-scaled — a higher-volume store pays materially more each month.

Is there a free plan or trial?

Yes. The free Monetize tier offers post-purchase affiliate offers, and there's a 14-day free trial on paid plans. The "build your own plan" starts from US$25/month (about A$35) for a Shopify Plus store, or US$35 (about A$49) for a standard Shopify store, and scales per order as volume grows.

Is it worth it for an Australian store?

Treat it as a growth-stage investment. Run the trial, watch the attributed-revenue reporting, and keep it only if the upsells clearly out-earn the bill in AUD at the real exchange rate. For small stores still finding their feet, start with Shopify's native recommendations first.
