Parpera Review: Banking and Business Admin for Australian Sole Traders
The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictVerdict (TL;DR): Parpera is a genuinely useful app for Australian sole traders who want one place for their business account, invoicing, and GST/BAS estimates. The "AI" is mostly smart automation rather than generative AI — but for its target audience, that is fine. Be aware of its history: Parpera had to rebuild after its original banking partner (Volt) collapsed in 2022, and relaunched with Wise Platform in 2025. The platform is operating again, but it is smaller and earlier-stage than its ambitions suggest.

What Parpera is
Parpera is a Sydney-founded fintech built specifically for Australian sole traders, freelancers, and single-director small companies. The name derives from the Latin for "fair wallet." It was founded by Daniel Cannizzaro and launched in October 2021.
The pitch is simple: stop using a personal bank account and a spreadsheet to run your business. Parpera gives you a dedicated business account, a Mastercard-powered business debit card, unlimited invoicing, expense tracking, GST flagging, tax estimates, and BAS preparation — all in one mobile app.
Important context on company history: Parpera originally provided banking via a partnership with neobank Volt and Railspay. When Volt collapsed and handed back its banking licence in July 2022, Parpera's banking services ceased and its approximately 500 members at the time had to withdraw funds. Parpera subsequently rebuilt its banking infrastructure, partnering with Wise Platform in early 2025 to relaunch its business account and debit card services. As of mid-2026, Parpera is operating and accepting new members.
Parpera is not an authorised deposit-taking institution (ADI). Its banking services are provided through its banking-as-a-service partners. This is not uncommon in Australian fintech — but it means deposits are not covered by the Australian Government Financial Claims Scheme in the way they would be at a licenced bank.

What it costs in Australia
Parpera operates on a subscription model with two tiers. Parpera's pricing page is JavaScript-rendered and the exact dollar figures weren't capturable at the time of writing, so confirm the current monthly price on parpera.com before subscribing — but the structure is as follows:
Starter plan - Business account (AUD) - Virtual Parpera Business Debit Mastercard - Accept card payments (Stripe fee + 0.5%) - Unlimited invoicing - Expense management and transaction categorisation - Tax estimates and tax savers - Export transactions (CSV) - Human support (in-app chat, phone, email) - 30-day free trial; no credit card required; 100% tax-deductible
GST/BAS plan (higher tier) - Everything in Starter, plus: - GST estimates and GST savers - BAS preparation (quarterly estimate auto-generated)
Both plans are described by Parpera as GST-inclusive and 100% tax-deductible.
A savings/earn wallet is available within both plans, earning a variable return of 3.60% p.a. (as of the rate last updated 08/11/2023 per Parpera's pricing page — (current rate); target returns are not guaranteed; see Parpera's disclaimer).
Online payment acceptance uses Stripe, at Stripe's fee plus 0.5%. No physical card terminal or in-person payment hardware is offered; Parpera accepts payments via QR code and payment links only.
How it works in practice
A sole trader downloads the Parpera app, signs up with their ABN, and within minutes has a dedicated business account with a unique BSB and account number plus a virtual Mastercard debit card. PayID is available for receiving payments. The app handles invoicing — branded, GST-compliant invoices sent to clients, with auto-reconciliation that matches incoming payments to outstanding invoices.
Expenses are categorised within the app; receipts can be attached digitally. At tax time, the GST/BAS tier generates an estimate of your BAS position automatically, which you or your accountant can use as a starting point for your actual lodgement with the ATO.
Xero integration is available, syncing transactions to your accounting software if you use one.
What it does well
Purpose-built for the Australian sole trader. Most banking and accounting apps start from a global product and add Australian compliance as an afterthought. Parpera was designed from the start for the Australian context: ABN, GST, BAS, ATO obligations. The GST flagging and BAS preparation are not features you have to configure — they are the product.
Genuinely all-in-one for micro-businesses. A sole trader with modest complexity — a consultant, a tradesperson, a freelancer — can genuinely replace a bank account, invoice template, spreadsheet, and receipt folder with one app. That consolidation has real value.
30-day free trial. No credit card required. This is exactly how low-risk software should be trialled.
Invoicing is solid. Auto-reconciliation (matching incoming payments to invoices) is a practical time-saver. Scheduled reminders for unpaid invoices reduce the awkwardness of chasing clients.
International payments. Via the Wise Platform partnership, fee-free international card payments are available — relevant for sole traders with overseas clients.
What it doesn't do well
The AI angle is overstated for this category. Parpera uses automation and rules-based logic to categorise transactions, estimate GST, and match invoices. These are genuinely useful features. Calling them "AI" in the generative or machine-learning sense is a stretch — this is well-designed fintech software doing what fintech software does. Reviewers evaluating Parpera specifically as an AI product should adjust expectations accordingly.
History creates a legitimacy question. The Volt collapse in 2022 was not Parpera's fault, but losing banking services and leaving 500+ members to withdraw their funds is a meaningful event in a company's history. Parpera relaunched with Wise Platform in 2025 and appears to be operating, but the company remains small and early-stage. Businesses holding significant working capital here should be aware of the BaaS (banking-as-a-service) model's structural risk — if the banking partner changes again, services could be disrupted.
No physical card reader. Parpera does not offer an EFTPOS terminal or any in-person hardware. If you take face-to-face card payments regularly, you need a separate solution (Square, Zeller, Tyro, etc.).
BAS preparation is an estimate, not a lodgement. Parpera's BAS feature generates an estimate. You (or your accountant) still need to lodge with the ATO. This is appropriate and honest — Parpera does not claim to be a tax agent — but it is worth clarifying.
No payroll, no year-end accounts. For businesses with employees or complex financials, Parpera does not replace an accounting platform like Xero or MYOB. It is best viewed as a complement to, or a stepping-stone before, full accounting software.
Pricing not transparently listed on primary-source pages in rendered form. Monthly fees are not confirmed from a primary-source primary rendering at time of review. This is unusual for a subscription product and worth flagging. Check parpera.com/pricing directly for current pricing before signing up.
Australian fit
Parpera's Australian fit is high within its stated scope. The product is designed around Australian ABN, GST, and BAS requirements. The business account uses AUD. The Mastercard debit card supports Apple Pay and Google Pay. Support is available via in-app chat, phone, and email.
Data hosting: Parpera has not prominently published its data residency position (check parpera.com/privacy for current data processing terms).
The Wise Platform partnership for banking services is a legitimate and well-regarded global fintech infrastructure provider. However, Parpera's history with banking partners is a material fact for Australian compliance and continuity considerations.
Alternatives
Hnry — Australian service for sole traders handling tax, GST, invoicing, and ATO payments automatically. Hnry actually lodges your tax and BAS for you (via a registered tax agency), rather than just estimating. Higher-cost but more comprehensive for tax obligations. Review: /review-hnry-australia-2026-06-13.
Thriday (now Tyro Accounting — the plans below are Thriday's own) — Australian SMB banking and bookkeeping with stronger AI-powered automation for transaction categorisation and tax estimates; now part of Tyro. Targets slightly larger SMBs than Parpera. Review: /review-thriday-australia-2026-06-13.
MYOB Solo — MYOB launched Solo in 2025, a sole-trader banking and accounting app with debit card and invoicing. Backed by MYOB's established AU track record and accounting infrastructure. Review: /review-myob-australia-2026-06-02.
Bottom line
Parpera is a well-designed app that solves a real problem for Australian sole traders: consolidating business banking, invoicing, GST tracking, and BAS preparation into one mobile-first tool. For a freelancer or one-person operator spending too much time on admin, it delivers genuine value.
The AI component is automation-flavoured fintech intelligence rather than generative AI — honest within the category, but worth calibrating expectations if you are evaluating it specifically as an AI product.
The bigger concern is company maturity. Parpera has survived a significant setback (Volt's collapse) and relaunched. It is operating and accepting members. But it is a small, early-stage company with a banking-as-a-service structure. Businesses with significant funds or complex financial needs should weigh that context.
Who it's for: Australian sole traders, freelancers, and single-director operators who want one app for banking, invoicing, and GST/BAS — and are comfortable with a newer, smaller provider.
Who should look elsewhere: Businesses needing in-person payment terminals, payroll, full accounting, or the deposit protections of an ADI.

Frequently asked questions
Is Parpera safe for Australian sole traders?
Parpera provides banking services via banking-as-a-service partners (currently Wise Platform). It is not an authorised deposit-taking institution (ADI), so funds are not covered by the Australian Government Financial Claims Scheme. Parpera previously lost banking services when its original partner Volt collapsed in 2022 and relaunched in 2025 with Wise Platform. Sole traders should read Parpera's current terms and consider this history when deciding how much to hold in the account.
Does Parpera handle GST and BAS for Australian businesses?
Yes. Parpera's GST/BAS tier automatically flags transactions as GST-inclusive or GST-deductible, generates GST estimates, and prepares a BAS estimate each quarter. Note that Parpera generates an estimate — you or your accountant must still lodge the BAS with the ATO. Parpera does not act as a registered tax agent.
How does Parpera compare to Hnry for sole traders in Australia?
Both target sole traders, but Hnry goes further on tax: Hnry is a registered tax agent that actually lodges your tax returns and BAS on your behalf (fees deducted automatically from income). Parpera prepares estimates and handles banking/invoicing but does not lodge. Parpera is generally lower-cost; Hnry costs a percentage of income but handles the lodgement. The right choice depends on how hands-off you want to be with ATO obligations.
