Verdict (TL;DR): Gong is the category leader in revenue intelligence, and it earns the reputation. It quietly records and transcribes your sales calls and video meetings, then uses AI to tell you which deals are slipping, what your best reps say that the rest don't, and where a deal is going off the rails. For a sales team of any size that lives in a CRM, the insight is real and the coaching value is genuine. The catch for Australians is the buying experience. There is no public price — every deal is quote-only, billed in USD, and built from a per-user licence plus a separate platform fee, with paid add-on modules on top. Independent estimates put the effective cost well above the headline seat rate, but Gong publishes none of it, so budget with caution. Your data sits in the US or EU — there is no Australian data region — and there is no advertised local support office. The security credentials are excellent (SOC 2 Type 2, a stack of ISO certifications, ISO 42001 for AI). For a well-resourced Australian sales org that can stomach USD enterprise contracting, Gong is a strong tool. For a small business, it's overkill you can't price.

What Gong is

Gong is a "revenue AI" platform — software that sits across your sales team's calls, video meetings and emails, captures every interaction, and uses AI to turn that raw conversation data into something a sales leader can act on. It started life as a conversation-intelligence tool (record the call, transcribe it, analyse it) and has grown into what Gong now calls a Revenue AI OS: a single system spanning call analysis, deal and pipeline insights, forecasting, sales engagement and coaching.

In plain terms, here's what it does. It joins your Zoom, Teams or Meet calls as a notetaker, records and transcribes them, and writes a summary. It then reads the whole picture across a deal — every call, every email — and flags risk: a deal that's gone quiet, a competitor that keeps coming up, a decision-maker who's dropped off the thread. For managers, it surfaces what top performers do differently, so you can coach the rest of the team toward it. Across the platform Gong supports 70+ languages for transcription, though English gets the most accurate analysis.

The company is the clear market leader here. Gong says it's trusted by 5,000+ customers, holds a 4.8/5 average across 6,200+ G2 reviews, and is named a Leader in the Forrester Wave. This is not a fringe tool — it's the benchmark the category is measured against.

The product line, as Gong lists it today, breaks into: Gong AI (the AI layer — capture, insights, summaries, agents), Gong Forecast (revenue forecasting), Gong Engage (sales engagement / outbound sequencing), Gong Enable (sales enablement and coaching), and the Gong Revenue Graph that ties the data together. The important thing for a buyer: several of those are separate paid modules, not one bundle.

What it costs in Australia

This is where the honesty has to be blunt. Gong does not publish a price. Its own pricing page sets out only the shape of the model: licences are "priced per user," there is "a platform fee based on the number of users supported," and you "can integrate your existing tech stack for free." No plan names, no per-seat numbers, no platform-fee figure, no free tier, no currency stated. Everything is quote-only — the page asks you to pick a team-size band and request a custom proposal. As a US vendor selling enterprise contracts, billing is in USD.

So the structure is confirmed from Gong's own page: per-user licence + a platform fee that scales with headcount + paid add-on modules, with integrations thrown in. What Gong will not tell you is the number. Third-party pricing trackers publish their own estimates — well into four and five figures per year once the platform fee is counted — but those are customer-reported guesses, not Gong figures, and we won't repeat them as if they were fact. The only honest summary is the one Gong forces on you: you cannot know the price without a quote.

The Australian translation: because no per-user figure is disclosed, no reliable AUD conversion is possible — and that is the point. Whatever the quote, it lands in USD and before GST. As a US-billed B2B service, GST treatment depends on how the contract is structured; an Australian business will generally need to account for GST on imported services (reverse charge) and should confirm with its accountant. There is no AUD-native billing and no GST-inclusive local invoice.

Value verdict: The product is good. The pricing model is the problem for Australian buyers. A quote-only, USD, per-user-plus-platform-fee structure with paid modules is built for funded enterprise sales orgs, not for a 35-person Australian business trying to compare options on a Tuesday afternoon. You cannot work out whether Gong is fair value without booking a sales call — and that opacity is itself a mark against it.

How it works in practice

The day-to-day experience is genuinely smooth. Connect your calendar and CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot), and Gong starts capturing automatically. It joins meetings as a notetaker, records and transcribes, and writes a summary you can read in under a minute instead of sitting through a 45-minute recording. Reps stop taking notes; managers stop sampling calls at random.

The real value is the layer above a single call. Gong reads across an entire deal and tells you things you'd otherwise miss: this opportunity hasn't had a meeting in three weeks, a competitor was mentioned on the last two calls, the economic buyer went quiet. For a sales leader, that's the difference between finding out a deal is dead at forecast time and catching it two weeks earlier. The coaching angle is equally concrete — Gong can show that your best closer asks twice as many questions in discovery, then help you spread that behaviour.

Forecasting and Engage push it from "call analysis" into running the revenue motion: pipeline predictions based on actual conversation signals, and outbound sequencing for reps. Whether you need those depends on whether you already have tools doing the job — and remember they're priced separately.

The honest limits: it shines for English-language, CRM-centric, structured sales teams. If your sales process is informal, your deals close over WhatsApp and coffee, or your team is tiny, most of Gong's machinery has nothing to grip. And non-English calls get a transcript but weaker AI analysis.

What it does well

  • Best-in-class revenue intelligence. Reading across a whole deal — not just summarising one call — to flag risk and surface what top reps do is the core job, and Gong does it better than anyone. It's the category benchmark for a reason.
  • Real coaching value. It turns "my gut says this rep needs help" into "here's exactly what your best performers do that this rep doesn't." That's specific and useful.
  • Automatic, low-friction capture. Joins calls, transcribes, summarises and syncs to your CRM with almost no rep effort. Notetaking effectively disappears.
  • Serious security credentials. SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001/27017/27018/27701, ISO 42001 (AI management system), PCI DSS, CSA STAR and EU-US Data Privacy Framework — a genuinely strong, enterprise-grade compliance stack.
  • 70+ languages. Broad transcription coverage for global teams, even if English gets the best analysis.

What to watch out for

  • No public pricing — at all. Quote-only, USD, per-user plus a platform fee plus paid modules — confirmed structure, undisclosed numbers. You cannot compare value without a sales call.
  • No Australian data region. Your data is stored in the US (default) or EU on AWS — there is no AU hosting option. For an Australian business with data-sovereignty requirements, that's a hard constraint, not a footnote.
  • No advertised local support or AU office. Support is the Help Center, Academy and a request form. No Australian business-hours line or local presence was found.
  • It's enterprise-shaped. The whole thing assumes a structured, CRM-driven sales team of meaningful size. A small or informal Australian business will pay for machinery it can't use.
  • Paid modules add up. Forecast, Engage and Enable are separate line items. The "all-in-one revenue OS" pitch costs more than the entry licence implies.

Australian fit

  • Available in Australia: Yes — Gong sells globally and supports Australian teams, with 70+ language transcription.
  • Pricing in AUD: No. Quote-only and USD-billed. No AUD-native pricing, no public figures at all.
  • GST: Not included in any local sense. As an imported US B2B service, an Australian business will typically need to handle GST itself (reverse charge) — confirm with your accountant.
  • Data residency: No Australian region. Data is stored in the US (default) or EU on AWS. Gong has offices in the US, Israel and Ireland where data may be processed.
  • Local support: None AU-specific — Help Center, Academy and a support request form.
  • Certifications: Strong and globally recognised (SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001/27017/27018/27701, ISO 42001, PCI DSS, CSA STAR, EU-US DPF). No IRAP assessment is advertised, which matters for Australian government and regulated buyers.

Alternatives

Tool Why you might prefer it
Fireflies / Otter If you mainly want call recording, transcription and summaries — not full revenue intelligence — at a published, far lower price (and Fireflies sometimes bills more transparently).
HubSpot (with conversation intelligence) If you're already on HubSpot and want call insights inside a CRM you can actually price, without a separate platform fee.
Clari Copilot / Chorus Direct revenue-intelligence rivals worth quoting against Gong — also enterprise-shaped, but worth the competitive tension on price.

Bottom line

Gong is the best revenue-intelligence tool on the market, and this review doesn't dispute that. If you run a serious, English-speaking, CRM-driven sales team, it will catch deals slipping before your forecast does and make your average reps better. The security is enterprise-grade and the AI does real work, not theatre.

But this is The AI Directory Australia, and the Australian buying reality drags the score down. There is no public price, the billing is USD, the contract stacks a per-user licence on a platform fee on paid modules, and your data lives in the US or EU with no Australian region and no IRAP. That's three strikes against a local fit: no AUD, no AU hosting, no local support.

So the recommendation is conditional. For a well-funded Australian sales organisation that already contracts in USD and has the volume to justify it, Gong is a strong yes — get a written quote, push on the platform fee, and confirm GST treatment with your accountant. For a small Australian business, the answer is no: you'll pay enterprise money for enterprise machinery you can't fully use, and you can't even see the number until you sit through a sales call. We'll refresh this if Gong publishes pricing, adds AUD billing, or stands up an Australian data region.

Score

Criterion Score Notes
Value for Money 3/5 The product justifies a premium, but quote-only USD pricing with a platform fee plus paid modules — and no public number — makes value impossible to assess up front
Ease of Use 4/5 Low-friction capture, clean summaries, strong CRM sync; the deal-level insights are genuinely useful day to day
Feature Depth 5/5 Category-leading revenue intelligence, coaching, forecasting and engagement across 70+ languages — the benchmark others are measured against
Australian Fit 2/5 No AUD billing, no Australian data region, no IRAP, no local support — strong global certifications don't offset a US-only commercial and hosting footprint
Reliability & Support 2/5 5,000+ customers and excellent security, but support is self-serve/web only with no AU presence, and the opaque commercial model dents trust
Total 16/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good
Update history
  • 21 Sep 2026 — Currency claim re-checked — and it cannot be confirmed from Gong. Read in an Australian browser: gong.io/pricing publishes no prices and no currency. It states only that licences are per user with a platform fee, and routes to a proposal form. This review's "No AUD billing" line in the Australian Fit reason cell is therefore an inference from a US vendor with quote-based sales, not a verified fact — recorded here rather than left looking checked. The score is unchanged: the reasons that carry it (no Australian data region, no IRAP, no local support) stand on their own. Wayback capture pending (archive.org unavailable 21 Sep 2026).

Frequently asked questions

Is Gong available in Australia?

Yes. Gong sells globally and supports Australian teams, with 70+ language transcription. The catch is everything around the product — no AUD billing, no Australian data region, no local support.

Does Gong charge in AUD?

No. Gong publishes no price at all — every deal is quote-only and billed in USD, built from a per-user licence plus a platform fee plus paid add-on modules. Because no figure is disclosed, no reliable AUD conversion is possible.

Is there a free trial?

No. There's no free tier and no published trial — you cannot work out whether Gong is fair value without booking a sales call, which is itself a mark against it for time-poor Australian buyers.

Where is my data stored?

In the US (default) or EU on AWS — there's no Australian region and no IRAP assessment. For an Australian business with data-sovereignty requirements, that's a hard constraint, not a footnote.

Should a small Australian business use Gong?

No. It's enterprise-shaped — built for structured, CRM-driven sales teams of real size. A small or informal business pays for machinery it can't use. It's a conditional yes only for well-funded AU sales orgs already contracting in USD.
