SEEK Employer AI Review: Australia's Default Recruitment Starting Point
- Best for
- Any Australian business posting a job, small business owners writing their first job ad…
The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictIf you're hiring in Australia and you're not using SEEK, you're fishing in a puddle. Australia's largest job board has a candidate database covering millions of profiles — SEEK doesn't publish a current figure, and the commonly cited ~14 million number couldn't be confirmed against a SEEK primary source as of June 2026 — making it the closest thing to a complete talent map of the country. In 2024 and 2025, SEEK layered AI features onto that database — AI-assisted job ad writing, Talent Search with AI candidate ranking, and automated matching. The result is not a standalone AI recruitment tool. It is the dominant Australian recruitment platform with AI built in. That distinction matters when you're deciding what to buy.
The verdict up front: for most Australian employers, SEEK is not optional — it is the starting point. The AI features improve the quality of your job ads and surface better-matched candidates faster. The pricing is in AUD, GST applies, and the platform is run by an Australian company with Australian servers — though SEEK's Privacy Policy confirms data is also stored and processed on US infrastructure. The one honest limitation is this: SEEK Employer is not an Applicant Tracking System. If your hiring process is complex, you will need more.
What SEEK Employer AI actually does
SEEK's AI features sit across two parts of the employer product: job ad creation and candidate search.
AI-assisted job ad writing. When you post a role, SEEK's AI drafts a job ad based on the role title and a few details you provide. It draws on response-rate data from millions of SEEK job ads to suggest language that performs well. You can edit the draft. The AI optimises for candidate response — clearer role descriptions, better-structured requirements, language patterns that attract more applications. SEEK's employer feature pages sit behind a login, so the exact current feature set and which tiers include it should be confirmed in the employer portal or with your account manager.
Talent Search with AI ranking. Talent Search gives you direct access to SEEK's candidate database. You search by skills, location, experience, and job title. The AI layer re-ranks results based on relevance to your role requirements — surfacing candidates most likely to be a match before you've read fifty profiles. Talent Search product pages sit behind an employer login, so the exact AI ranking methodology and which tiers include it should be confirmed in the employer portal or with your account manager.
Automated candidate matching. When you post a job, SEEK proactively matches your ad against its candidate pool and surfaces profiles worth reviewing. This passive matching means you're not entirely dependent on candidates finding your ad. Matching feature availability and the tiers it requires sit behind the employer login, so confirm both in the portal or with your account manager.
These are real productivity gains. A recruiter who would otherwise spend hours manually sifting profiles, or a small business owner writing a job ad from scratch, gets a faster start. The AI isn't doing the hiring — it is compressing the early stages of the funnel.
Pricing
SEEK's pricing structure has two components: per-job-ad fees and Talent Search subscription tiers.
Job ad pricing. SEEK charges per job listing. Standard and Premium ad types are priced differently, with Premium ads receiving more prominent placement and better candidate targeting. SEEK's job ad pricing pages redirect to an employer portal that requires login (au.employer.seek.com), so we can't quote exact current per-ad prices in AUD — confirm them by logging in to the SEEK employer portal or contacting SEEK directly.
Talent Search subscriptions. Access to the full candidate database requires a Talent Search subscription. Tiers vary by the number of profile views and contact credits. The Talent Search pricing pages require an employer login, so current subscription tiers and AUD prices should be confirmed via the SEEK employer portal or your account manager.
All SEEK pricing is in AUD. GST applies. This is the baseline expectation for an Australian platform, and SEEK meets it. No FX conversion, no USD surprise on the credit card statement. For finance teams processing invoices, that straightforwardness matters.
There is no free tier for employers. SEEK is a paid platform from the first job ad.
Australian fit
This is where SEEK is simply unmatched in the recruitment category.
Australian company, mixed data residency. SEEK is headquartered in Melbourne (founded 1997, ASX-listed). However, SEEK's Privacy Policy (section 9) confirms that personal information is stored on "secure servers located in Australia and the United States of America," and that service providers may be located in countries including Australia, New Zealand, USA, Netherlands, Germany, France, Ireland, Singapore, and India. [SOURCE: au.seek.com/about/privacy, fetched 7 June 2026.] This is not the same as Australian-only data residency. The claim that data "sits in Australia" is therefore partly confirmed: SEEK is an Australian company with Australian servers, but data is also processed on US infrastructure and shared with international service providers. For employers handling personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), you should review SEEK's Privacy Policy in full and seek legal advice on cross-border disclosure obligations before relying on this as a clean data residency story.
AUD pricing and GST. As an Australian-registered business, SEEK invoices in AUD with GST applied and itemised, so there's no currency conversion to manage. We couldn't confirm the exact GST treatment from a publicly accessible pricing page (those pages require an employer login), so check it against an actual SEEK invoice or with SEEK directly if it matters for your accounting.
Fair Work Act context. SEEK operates in the Australian market and is structured around Australian employment norms. Its candidate database reflects the Australian workforce. Job classifications, salary benchmarking, and search categories map to how Australian hiring actually works — not to a US or UK template.
Candidate database depth. SEEK doesn't publish its candidate database size on any publicly accessible page as of June 2026, and the commonly cited ~14 million figure couldn't be confirmed from a SEEK primary source — so we won't put a number on it. The practical depth advantage over any international competitor is well-established regardless: a platform that has operated in this market for over 25 years has structural data advantages a new entrant cannot replicate quickly.
AI screening, employer liability, and the Fair Work Act
This section matters. Read it before you rely on AI candidate ranking to make or shortlist hiring decisions.
Employer responsibility does not transfer to the algorithm. SEEK Employer's AI features handle candidate discovery and ranking. The hiring decision remains the employer's responsibility under the Fair Work Act. Using AI to rank candidates does not reduce your exposure to discrimination claims under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) or the relevant state anti-discrimination legislation (including the Age Discrimination Act 2004, Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Racial Discrimination Act 1975, and Sex Discrimination Act 1984 at the federal level).
Algorithmic bias is a real risk. AI ranking systems trained on historical hiring data can reflect the patterns — and biases — of past decisions. If SEEK's AI ranks candidates based on patterns correlated with gender, age, postcode, or name, and those patterns lead to discriminatory outcomes, the employer who acts on those rankings bears liability. Ask SEEK directly about the bias testing, model auditing, and fairness measures applied to its ranking algorithms before relying on them heavily. As at June 2026, we could not find a detailed public technical paper from SEEK describing how its AI candidate-ranking model is built or tested for bias.
NSW Digital Work Systems Act. The NSW Work Health and Safety Amendment (Digital Work Systems) Act 2026 (Act No. 5 of 2026, assented 18 February 2026) amends the WHS Act 2011 (NSW) and expressly requires employers to manage health-and-safety risks from digital work systems — defined to include algorithms, AI, automation and online platforms — with its substantive duties to commence on a date set by proclamation (source: NSW Parliament, parliament.nsw.gov.au/bills, bill pk=18847). Whether those duties extend to an employer's use of a third-party platform's AI candidate-ranking features is not yet settled and should be checked with a lawyer. If you are an employer subject to NSW WHS law, this is worth a conversation with your employment lawyer before relying on automated ranking.
The practical takeaway: use SEEK's AI features to shorten the list you then read yourself. Don't let the algorithm make final shortlisting decisions without human review. That is good practice and, increasingly, a legal requirement.
What SEEK Employer is not
SEEK is not an Applicant Tracking System.
An ATS manages the full hiring workflow — job requisitions, application pipelines, interview scheduling, offer letters, onboarding, and compliance documentation. SEEK Employer manages job posting and candidate sourcing. Once a candidate applies, you need somewhere to manage that application. For many small businesses, email and a spreadsheet handle this. For businesses hiring at volume or managing multiple roles simultaneously, that breaks down quickly.
This is not a criticism of SEEK — it is a scoping note. If you need a full ATS, look at Greenhouse (integrates with SEEK), Manatal (affordable ATS with AI features, used by Australian agencies), or Rippling (broader HR platform that includes ATS and SEEK connectivity). The right answer for a business hiring more than ten to fifteen roles a year is likely SEEK plus an ATS, not SEEK alone.
What it does well
- Access to Australia's largest candidate database. This is the defining advantage. No international competitor can match SEEK's depth in the Australian market.
- AI job ad drafts that improve over time. The AI draws on response-rate data from a very large sample of Australian job ads. The drafts are a solid starting point, not a generic template.
- AUD billing, Australian company, Australian servers. SEEK is Melbourne-headquartered and ASX-listed. Note: SEEK's Privacy Policy confirms data is also stored on US servers and shared with international service providers — it is not a clean Australian-only data residency story, but it is closer to home than most international competitors.
- Passive candidate discovery. Talent Search's AI ranking means you're surfacing candidates who haven't applied to your role. That changes your sourcing strategy.
- Deep familiarity. Most Australian HR teams and recruiters have used SEEK for years. The learning curve for AI features is low because the platform is already known.
Watch out for
- Not a full ATS. If you need workflow management beyond sourcing and posting, you need additional tools.
- Per-ad pricing adds up. For businesses posting volume roles, the per-ad cost model can become expensive compared to subscription-based international platforms.
- AI ranking transparency is limited. As at June 2026, we could not find detailed public documentation from SEEK on how its AI candidate ranking works or how it is tested for bias. This matters for employers with Fair Work Act and anti-discrimination obligations.
- No free employer tier. You are paying from the first job ad. For a startup posting its first hire, the cost is real.
- International talent gaps. If you are hiring specialist technical roles and want to reach candidates outside Australia, SEEK's database has limitations. LinkedIn Recruiter or international platforms cover this better.
Who it's for
- Any Australian business posting a job. SEEK is where Australian candidates look first. This is not a preference — it is a market reality.
- HR managers and in-house recruiters who want AI-assisted drafting and smarter candidate matching within a familiar platform.
- Small business owners running their own hiring without a dedicated recruiter. The AI job ad tool is especially useful here — you don't need to know how to write a job ad, the platform gives you a draft that works.
- Recruitment agencies that work in the Australian market and use Talent Search as their primary sourcing tool.
Who needs more
- Businesses hiring at volume who need a full ATS alongside SEEK.
- Employers needing deep international sourcing — SEEK is an Australian database, not a global one.
- Companies with complex compliance requirements who need documented AI bias testing and algorithmic transparency before they can rely on AI ranking. Ask SEEK directly; don't assume.
Score
| Criterion | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Value for Money | 4/5 | AUD pricing, no FX, candidate database depth justifies cost. Per-ad model can be expensive at volume. |
| Ease of Use | 4/5 | Familiar platform for most AU recruiters. AI features are well-integrated and low-friction. |
| Feature Depth | 3/5 | Excellent for job posting and AI candidate matching. Not a full ATS — significant gap for complex hiring workflows. |
| Australian Fit | 4/5 | Australian company (Melbourne HQ, ASX-listed), AUD + GST, Fair Work context, AU candidate database. Held to 4/5 (not 5) because data is stored in AU + US per the Privacy Policy with no Australian-only onshore region — consistent with how the same residency facts were scored for Xero and MYOB. The rest of the local story (AU company, AU market focus, AU servers as primary) is genuinely strong. |
| Reliability & Support | 5/5 | Australia's dominant recruitment infrastructure. High uptime expectations. Established AU-based support. Formal SLA and support documentation aren't publicly accessible; this score reflects market position and operational track record — confirm specifics in your SEEK account documentation. |
| Total | 20/25 |
Star rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good Australian Fit scored 4/5; the raw total of 20/25 lands in the Very Good band (16–20), so four stars. The Australian Fit gate five-star/Top-Pick gate is not engaged here (the rating is four stars; top_pick is false).
Verdict
SEEK Employer is not an AI recruitment tool that happens to operate in Australia. It is Australia's recruitment infrastructure, with AI built in. The candidate database is the moat. The AI job ad drafting and Talent Search ranking are real productivity tools, not marketing features. The AUD pricing and domestic company status are genuine advantages. On data residency, note that SEEK's Privacy Policy confirms data is stored in both Australia and the US — this is better than a purely offshore platform, but it is not Australian-only and your Privacy Act obligations require review accordingly.
The honest limitation is scope. If you are hiring at volume or need workflow management from application to offer, SEEK alone is not enough. Pair it with an ATS. And before you rely heavily on AI candidate ranking, ask SEEK about its bias testing and satisfy yourself that you understand your Fair Work Act and anti-discrimination obligations as the employer who acts on those rankings.
For the vast majority of Australian employers posting a role: SEEK Employer, with its AI features switched on, is the right first tool. Its Australian-market depth and AUD billing earn it a strong four-star recommendation; the one thing keeping it from full marks on Australian fit is that data is stored in both Australia and the US, not onshore-only. The AI improvements to job ad quality and candidate matching make it an easy first pick for almost any Australian hire.
Best for: Any Australian business posting a job, small business owners writing their first job ad, HR teams wanting smarter candidate sourcing without leaving the platform they already use.
Not if: You need a full ATS, you're sourcing internationally, or you need documented algorithmic transparency for compliance purposes.

Frequently asked questions
Is SEEK Employer available in Australia?
Yes — it's Australia's recruitment infrastructure. SEEK is a Melbourne-headquartered, ASX-listed company (founded 1997) running the country's largest candidate database, with AI built in. For an Australian hire, it's not optional — it's the starting point.
Does SEEK Employer charge in AUD?
Yes. All SEEK pricing is in AUD with GST applied — no FX conversion, no USD surprise. Exact per-ad and Talent Search prices sit behind the employer login (au.employer.seek.com), so confirm them in the portal or with your account manager. There's no free employer tier.
Is there a free plan or free trial?
No. SEEK is a paid platform from the first job ad, with per-ad fees plus Talent Search subscription tiers. For a startup posting its first hire, the cost is real.
Does SEEK Employer store data in Australia?
Partly. SEEK's Privacy Policy confirms data is stored on secure servers in both Australia and the US, with service providers in several countries. It's an Australian company with Australian servers, but not a clean onshore-only story — review your Privacy Act cross-border obligations.
Is SEEK Employer a full applicant tracking system?
No. SEEK handles job posting and candidate sourcing, not the full hiring workflow. For volume hiring or complex pipelines, pair it with an ATS like Greenhouse, Manatal or Rippling. Also keep AI candidate ranking as a shortlisting aid under human review — Fair Work and anti-discrimination liability stays with you.
