Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).

Verdict (TL;DR): Outranking is a competent, SERP-driven SEO content tool that turns a keyword into a brief, an outline, and a first draft faster than most rivals. The optimisation scoring and internal-linking automation are genuinely useful if you publish weekly. But it bills only in US dollars, names no Australian data residency, and the document caps bite quickly. Australian marketers can get value here, but pay the currency tax and don't expect AU-aware output.

What Outranking is

Outranking is an AI SEO writing platform. You give it a target keyword, it scans the pages already ranking on Google for that term, then walks you through a structured pipeline: meta title, meta description, outline, first draft, and on-page optimisation. The pitch is "data-backed" content — instead of writing into a void, you write against what's already winning the search result.

The company behind it is registered in Middletown, Delaware, in the United States. There is no Australian office, no AUD pricing, and no Australian support presence that we could find.

It sits in a crowded field. The closest comparison points are Surfer SEO, Frase, and Jasper's SEO mode. Outranking's differentiator is how tightly it couples SERP analysis to drafting — the brief and the writing happen in one workspace, and the internal-linking step leans more on automation than on suggestions.

This is a marketing tool, not a legal, finance, or health product, so the usual professional-advice caveat doesn't apply. What does apply is the verification question: SEO drafts are only as good as the facts you check before publishing.

What it costs in Australia

Outranking publishes USD pricing only. There is no AUD billing option we could find, and no GST line — as an overseas digital service, GST treatment depends on your own ABN and import rules, so confirm with your accountant.

Conversions below use the AID standard rate (USD × 1.40, shown ex-GST. We apply the conversion as a buffer, not a GST claim — whether GST actually applies depends on your own ABN and import position. Plan names and document/seat limits are consistent across independent trackers; exact dollar figures vary slightly between monthly and annual billing, so treat the AUD columns as a guide, not a quote.

Plan Price (USD/mo) Approx A$/mo (ex-GST) Documents Seats
Starter ~US$29 ~A$41 5 1
SEO Writer ~US$79 ~A$111 15 2
SEO Wizard ~US$159 ~A$223 30 3
Custom Sales-quoted — 30+ 3+

Annual billing reportedly drops the monthly headline rates — roughly US$25 for Starter, US$69 for SEO Writer, and US$139 for SEO Wizard. There's a free trial with a small number of free optimisations, and independent reviews describe a money-back window, though the exact terms vary between sources, so confirm the current guarantee with Outranking before relying on it.

The catch Australians should notice: a "document" is the unit you're rationed on. SEO Writer's 15 documents a month sounds generous until you realise that's roughly one optimised article every two working days. Heavy publishers will hit the cap and face custom pricing fast.

⚠ See the 23 September 2026 note at the top of this review: the vendor page loads again and does not support the US$79 monthly figure in the title. Treat every price below as unverified pending a primary re-check.

Pricing source: independent pricing trackers and review sites, cross-checked June 2026. The live vendor pricing page would not load during this review, so these figures are cross-checked estimates rather than vendor-confirmed — re-confirm against outranking.io directly before purchasing.

How it works in practice

The flow is linear and that's its strength. You enter a keyword, Outranking pulls the top results, and you get a brief built from the headings, questions, and entities those pages share. From there you generate an outline, then a first draft, then run the optimisation score — a live readout of how well your draft covers the terms Google seems to reward for that query.

In practice, a 1,500-word draft from a cold keyword takes maybe 20–30 minutes end to end, including the editing you'll need to do. That's faster than starting in a blank Google Doc, but the raw AI output still reads like AI output — competent, slightly bland, occasionally repetitive. You are editing, not just approving.

The internal-linking step is the part regulars tend to keep paying for. Point it at your existing content and it automates link insertion rather than just flagging candidates. For a site with 50-plus published posts, that saves real time.

What it does well

  • SERP-grounded briefs. The brief is built from pages that already rank, not from a generic template. You start writing with a clear target instead of guessing.
  • One workspace, brief to draft. Outline, draft, and optimisation score live together. You're not pasting between a research tool and a writing tool.
  • Internal-linking automation. It inserts links across your existing content rather than just listing suggestions — a genuine time-saver for established sites.
  • Transparent published pricing. In a category drifting toward "book a demo," Outranking still posts its tiers openly. You can budget before you talk to anyone.
  • Fast first drafts. A usable 1,500-word starting point in under half an hour, including edits.

What it doesn't do well

  • No Australian fit at all. USD-only billing, no AUD option, US-only data residency, no AU support hours. You carry the currency risk and the time-zone gap.
  • Document caps bite. Fifteen documents a month on the mid tier is one article every two days. Agencies and frequent publishers will hit custom pricing quickly.
  • Generic output without heavy editing. The first draft is a scaffold, not a finished piece. Treat anything it writes about facts, prices, or claims as unverified.
  • The optimisation score can mislead. Chasing a higher term-coverage number can push you toward keyword-stuffed, robotic copy. The score is a guide, not a target.
  • UI complexity and support gripes. Independent reviews repeatedly flag a steep learning curve, and several mention slow support responses. These are third-party impressions rather than anything we could confirm with the vendor, so weigh them as user sentiment, not measured fact.

Australian fit

This is where Outranking struggles for our readers. There is no AUD billing, so every invoice rides the exchange rate and your card's foreign-transaction fee. There is no Australian data-residency option — Outranking's own privacy policy says user information is stored and processed in the United States and may be transferred to other countries, which matters if your content or client data carries residency obligations.

The AI doesn't know or care that you're Australian. Ask it to optimise a page and it writes in US spelling and US framing by default. You'll need to set Australian English in your brand-voice settings and still proofread for "color," "optimize," and "$" that means US dollars. None of this is fatal — but none of it is handled for you, and that's the whole point of an Australian-fit assessment.

If you publish for an Australian audience, Outranking is a tool you operate despite its origin, not one built with you in mind.

Alternatives

  • Jasper — broader AI writing suite with an SEO mode. Better if you want general content plus SEO, worse if you want SERP-grounded briefs as the core workflow.
  • Surfer SEO — the closest direct rival on SERP-driven optimisation. Compare document limits and pricing carefully; both are USD-only.
  • Copy.ai — cheaper, lighter, less SEO-specialised. A fit if you mostly need fast marketing copy rather than ranking-led articles.

Bottom line

Outranking does the SERP-to-draft job well, and the internal-linking automation earns its keep on an established site. If you publish regularly and you're comfortable editing AI output into something human, the SEO Writer tier is defensible — at the USD price, with eyes open.

But it's a US tool with no Australian accommodations. No AUD billing, no stated data residency, no AU-aware output. For a Melbourne business owner choosing where to put a content budget, that's a real cost, not a footnote. Buy it for the workflow, not the local fit — and verify every fact it drafts before it goes live.

Score

Criterion Score Note
Value for Money 3/5 Capable, but document caps and the USD-plus-FX premium dull the value.
Ease of Use 2/5 Linear flow helps, but the UI is widely flagged as steep and busy.
Feature Depth 4/5 SERP briefs, drafting, optimisation scoring and link automation in one place.
Australian Fit 2/5 USD-only, no AUD billing, US-only data residency, US-default output.
Reliability & Support 3/5 Stable enough; third-party reviews cite slow support and a learning curve.
Total 14/25 ⭐⭐⭐ Good
Update history
  • 9 Oct 2026 — Housekeeping: replaced internal editing references in this history with plain wording. No fact, price or score changed.
  • 30 Sep 2026 — re-checked by browser; unresolved, no claims re-verified. outranking.io/pricing-plan on an Australian connection shows the plan cards at $1,500, $3,000 and $5,000 "/mo billed" (4, 15 and 30 SEO documents) in both billing views, while the same page still offers AI credit packs from $49 and "$25 per article". We could not tell whether the cards are a real repricing or a page error, so the table is left as reviewed and the row stays open. aud_native: false set (bare $, no A$). Score unchanged. Capture: Dossiers/captures/outranking-pricing-2026-09-30.txt; Wayback 30 Sep 2026.
  • 23 Sep 2026 ⚠ DO NOT PUBLISH AS TITLED — the vendor's pricing page loads again, and it does not support the US$79 a month in our headline. This review used independent trackers because outranking.io/pricing-plan/ “would not load during this review” on 20 June 2026. It loads now. Read in a browser on an Australian connection, 23 September 2026, it shows three named plans — Starter, SEO Writer and SEO Wizard, displayed as “$ 1,500 /mo billed”, “$ 3,000 /mo billed” and “$ 5,000 /mo billed” against 4, 15 and 30 SEO Documents — plus an Enterprise tier by appointment. The monthly/yearly toggle does not change any of those figures. The only $79 anywhere on the page is an AI-credits pack (“Start At $79 — write 16–18 AI drafts”) and “$79 for Strategist [One Time]”. Neither is a monthly subscription, and our title, meta title and verdict all price the product at US$79 a month. No figure in this review has been changed, because the page cannot be reconciled from the page alone: $1,500 a month for four documents is not credible as a list price, and it may be a vendor display fault, a credits count rendered with a dollar sign, or a genuine repositioning. Replacing one unverifiable number with another would be the same mistake facing the other way. What is settled is that the reason this review cited trackers has gone, so the price needs a primary re-verification — and the headline should not be taken as sourced until it does. We're tracking it for a re-check.
  • 20 Jun 2026 — First reviewed.
  • 24 Sep 2026 — The AUD column was never grossed up for GST, and every word around it said it was. The header read “gross-up; GST unconfirmed” and the note beneath described a 10% uplift — while the figures themselves are plain conversions at 1.4045. Checked before changing a word: across the 63 files carrying this wording, 141 rows convert at 1.4045 and none at 1.4045 × 1.10. No figure changed here; only the description of them did. Two things were wrong beyond the arithmetic: gross-up names a tax uplift and was being used for a currency conversion, and GST unconfirmed is stale — our GST rule settled it on 5 September 2026, and a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service. No USD price moved and no score changed. reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.
