⚠️ PRICING NOT VENDOR-VERIFIED — 6 September 2026. Lever publishes no pricing (re-checked 6 September 2026). The contract range below is a third-party estimate and is labelled as such. Treat every price in this review as indicative, confirm the live figure at checkout, and read the verdict knowing the pricing criterion rests on unconfirmed numbers. See our Verification Standard.

Verdict (TL;DR): Lever is a mid-market ATS/CRM with a long track record and a genuine CRM pedigree that sets it apart from pure-ATS competitors. The IBM watsonx.governance integration gives it a more serious AI governance story than most. The problems are real: fully opaque pricing, US-hosted data, no confirmed SEEK integration, and a focus on US regulatory compliance that leaves Australian employers to fill in the gaps. Worth evaluating if you're a 200–2,000 employee business already comfortable with US-hosted SaaS — less so if SEEK pipeline management is your priority.

What Lever is

Lever is a US-based recruiting software company, now operating as part of Employ Inc. — a portfolio that also includes JazzHR (for smaller teams) and Jobvite (for enterprise). Lever's primary product is LeverTRM, which combines applicant tracking system (ATS) and candidate relationship management (CRM) functionality in a single platform. The "TRM" stands for Talent Relationship Management.

The ATS/CRM combination is Lever's core differentiator. Traditional ATS tools are passive: candidates apply, you track them, you hire or reject. Lever layers CRM functionality on top — you can proactively build talent pipelines, nurture passive candidates, and maintain long-term relationships with prospects who are not ready to apply yet. For businesses that compete for talent in tight markets, that pipeline-building capability matters.

Lever is used by over 5,000 companies globally, including Atlassian, Netflix, Spotify, KPMG, and Nielsen. Australian customers exist — Atlassian is an obvious reference point — though Lever does not publish an AU-specific customer list.

What it costs in Australia

Lever's pricing is entirely sales-led. There is no published price list at any tier. You get a quote by submitting a form on lever.co/pricing. The pricing page describes "flexible, scalable pricing tailored to your hiring needs" and notes that costs scale based on team size and hiring volume.

Third-party review sites suggest Lever has historically been positioned in the AUD $15,000–$50,000+ per year range for mid-market teams, but these figures are unverified and may not reflect current or Australian-market pricing. (third-party estimate — not published by Lever).

GST treatment: as a US-based SaaS provider invoicing Australian businesses, GST may apply depending on how the contract is structured. ****.

The practical upside: if you go to contract negotiation with competing quotes from Ashby or Greenhouse, Lever tends to be willing to negotiate. The opaque pricing is frustrating but it also creates room.

How it works in practice

LeverTRM combines two products that competitors usually sell separately:

ATS side: Job postings, application management, interview scheduling, feedback collection, offer management, and basic reporting. Standard enterprise ATS functionality.

CRM side: Talent sourcing, candidate nurturing, email sequence automation, talent pools, and pipeline analytics. This is where Lever earns its differentiation — you can run multi-stage nurture campaigns to passive candidates, tag and segment talent pools, and track relationship history over time.

AI-powered features: - AI-powered candidate matching: Automatically ranks applicants against job requirements with transparent scoring and explanations. Lever calls this part of its "intelligent hiring suite." - AI-powered fraud prevention signals: Flags potentially fraudulent applications. - Unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries: Included in the core platform. - AI Screening by VONQ (add-on): Agent-based pre-screening embedded into your career site. Handles high-volume application triage via AI. - Candidate Insights (add-on): Surfaces skills, fit signals, assessment data, and reference information directly in candidate profiles.

The IBM watsonx.governance layer is Lever's governance framework. The pricing page states: "Every AI innovation we deliver is built with watsonx.governance and backed by IBM's leadership in responsible technology. That means embedding always-on support, verification, and toolsets across our intelligent hiring suite to ensure fairness, transparency, and audit readiness."

In practice, this means Lever's AI outputs come with explanations, and the governance framework is designed to be auditable. That is a meaningful claim for enterprise buyers with compliance requirements.

What it does well

Genuine CRM functionality. This is the clearest differentiator from most ATS competitors. If your recruiting strategy involves building proactive talent pipelines, nurturing passive candidates, or running multi-stage outreach campaigns, Lever's CRM is substantively better than ATS tools that have retrofitted a basic nurture module.

IBM watsonx.governance integration. AI governance backed by a named, established platform is a stronger claim than "we take AI ethics seriously." For legal teams and procurement officers assessing AI risk, this is a more auditable position than most ATS vendors offer.

Transparent AI matching. The matching engine provides ranked candidate lists with explanations of why each candidate is ranked where they are. You are not looking at a black-box score.

Strong market position. Over 5,000 customers, including significant enterprise names. SOC 2 Type II certified. A track record that smaller or newer ATS vendors cannot match.

Integrations breadth. The Lever partner ecosystem (marketplace.lever.co) includes a broad range of HRIS, sourcing, assessment, background check, and productivity integrations.

What it doesn't do well

Fully opaque pricing. Lever publishes no prices at any tier. This is not a minor inconvenience — it means you cannot budget without a sales conversation. If you are at a smaller business, the minimum contract size may also exceed what is practical. You will not find out without going through a demo cycle.

No confirmed SEEK integration. Lever's integration marketplace does not list SEEK as at June 2026. For Australian employers, this is a significant gap. SEEK is the primary job advertising and applicant sourcing platform in Australia — an ATS that does not connect to SEEK creates a split workflow and leaves your largest inbound applicant channel out of your ATS reporting. Confirm current integration status directly with Lever.

US data hosting. Lever operates separate Global and EU data centres [source: third-party reporting; verify directly with Lever]. There is no confirmed Australian data centre. Offshore storage of candidate personal information requires compliance with APP 8 of the Privacy Act 1988. You will need to review Lever's DPA carefully and take legal advice on whether your specific use case meets Australian data protection obligations.

ADM transparency — Australian framing absent. Lever's AI governance documentation is framed around US law and GDPR. From 10 December 2026, Australian employers using AI in hiring decisions that could significantly affect a candidate's rights or interests must disclose this in their privacy policy under the OAIC's ADM transparency rule (Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024). Lever's platform provides the governance infrastructure — but translating that into Australian-law compliant privacy policy language is work you will need to do with your legal team.

Employ Inc. brand complexity. Lever sits within a portfolio alongside JazzHR and Jobvite. Enterprise roadmap prioritisation and support quality in a portfolio of this kind can be variable. Worth asking directly about Lever's standalone investment trajectory.

Australian fit

Dimension Assessment
AUD pricing published No — fully sales-led
GST treatment Not published by the vendor. Under ATO rules a GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow about 10% on top.
Data residency US and EU data centres; no AU centre confirmed
SEEK integration Not confirmed — verify directly
Privacy Act / APP compliance GDPR-compliant; DPA available; AU-specific framing absent
ADM transparency (10 Dec 2026) Governance via IBM watsonx; AU-law framing is your responsibility
Fair Work / anti-discrimination Not addressed in product documentation
AU customer references Atlassian noted as customer; no published AU-specific references

Alternatives

  • Greenhouse — stronger enterprise ATS with SEEK integration and longer AU track record. Less CRM functionality than Lever but more established locally.
  • Ashby — better AI implementation and published entry-level pricing. Similar AU gaps to Lever on data residency and SEEK.
  • Workable — more accessible for mid-market teams, SEEK integration confirmed, clearer pricing.

Bottom line

Lever earns its place as one of the more capable mid-market ATS/CRM platforms — the CRM functionality is genuinely differentiated and the IBM watsonx.governance framework gives it a more credible AI governance story than most competitors. For Australian employers, the gaps are the same familiar ones: sales-led pricing, US data hosting, no confirmed SEEK integration, and compliance documentation that addresses US and EU law rather than Australian law. The OAIC's ADM rule from December 2026 adds a specific obligation you will need to address through your own legal team.

If you are an Australian business that competes globally for talent, runs proactive sourcing campaigns, and has existing comfort with US-hosted enterprise SaaS, Lever is worth evaluating. If your hiring is primarily SEEK-driven and you want pricing transparency before investing in a demo cycle, look at Greenhouse, Workable, or Manatal first.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lever (LeverTRM) available in Australia?

Yes, Lever is available to Australian businesses. Notable customers include Atlassian. However, pricing is fully sales-led with no published rates, data is hosted in the US (and EU) with no confirmed Australian data centre, and SEEK integration is not confirmed. Australian employers should verify these points directly with Lever before committing.

How does Lever handle AI governance and bias in hiring?

Lever's AI features are backed by IBM watsonx.governance, which provides an auditable framework for fairness, transparency, and compliance. The AI matching engine provides explanations alongside rankings. From 10 December 2026, Australian employers using AI in hiring decisions that could significantly affect candidates must disclose this in their privacy policy under the OAIC's ADM transparency rule — you will need legal advice to meet this requirement under Australian law.

What is the difference between Lever and a traditional ATS?

Traditional applicant tracking systems (ATS) are reactive: they track candidates who apply for your roles. Lever's LeverTRM adds CRM (candidate relationship management) on top — you can proactively build talent pipelines, run nurture campaigns to passive candidates, and track relationships with prospects who are not yet ready to apply. This makes it better suited to organisations that compete actively for scarce talent rather than relying solely on inbound applications.
