Freepik AI Review Australia 2026: Now Magnific — the full creative suite, upscaler included

The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictVerdict (TL;DR): Freepik AI rebranded as Magnific on 28 April 2026. The full AI creative suite — text-to-image generation across a dozen top models (Flux, Nano Banana, Kling, Grok, Seedream, Recraft, Krea, GPT Image 2.0 and more), video generation, audio, 3D tools, the Magnific image upscaler, and 250M+ stock assets — is unchanged in capability. The URL changed from freepik.com to magnific.com. Existing subscriptions, plans, pricing, and billing transferred automatically. The recommendation from our June 2026 review holds: Premium+ at US$33.75/month (annual) is the tier most content creators and small businesses should consider — it includes unlimited generation on 30+ models and 600K credits per year. The catch for Australians is unchanged: pricing in USD (Premium US$14.50/month annual, Premium+ US$33.75/month annual, Pro US$210/month annual), GST added at checkout (not included in listed prices), no Australian data residency, and the vendor remains a Spanish company (Freepik Company S.L.U.) governed by Spanish law. If you are evaluating this platform fresh in mid-2026: it is the widest image and video generation tool available at its price point, with a strong commercial licence and a genuinely useful stock library included.
Score: 18/25 — ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good

What changed on 28 April 2026
Freepik — the Spanish stock-image company turned AI creative platform — rebranded as Magnific on 28 April 2026. The rebrand unified three things that had been operating under separate brands:
- Freepik — the stock asset library (250M+ photos, vectors, illustrations, video, audio, fonts, PSD files, templates)
- Magnific AI — the AI image upscaler Freepik acquired in May 2024, which had been running independently at magnific.ai
- Freepik's AI generation suite — text-to-image, video, audio, 3D tools, Designer workspace, Spaces collaborative canvas
Everything now lives at magnific.com. The old freepik.com and magnific.ai URLs redirect. CEO Joaquín Cuenca Abela described the rationale as consolidating a "confusing portfolio" into one brand at scale: the company launched the rebrand with $230 million in annual recurring revenue and more than 1 million paid subscribers.
For existing Freepik subscribers: nothing changed in your account. Plans, pricing, billing dates, payment methods, and feature access transferred automatically.
For new users evaluating the platform: this review covers the AI generation suite specifically — image, video, audio, 3D — with pricing and Australian-fit assessment as of June 2026.
What Magnific (formerly Freepik AI) is
The platform is a model aggregator and creative production environment. Rather than tying you to one image model, it puts the leading text-to-image, video, and audio models behind one interface and one credit balance.
Image generation models available (June 2026): - Google Nano Banana 2 (1K, 2K, 4K) — fast, general-purpose; unlimited on most paid plans - Google Nano Banana Pro — higher quality; unlimited on Premium+ and above - Flux.2 Pro — sharp, hyper-real; unlimited on Premium+ and above - Seedream 5.0 Lite — 4K output; unlimited on paid plans - GPT Image 2.0 — OpenAI's image model - Krea 2 — strong for creative illustration - Luma Uni-1.1 — consistent characters - Recraft V4.1 Pro — unlimited on Premium+; design-oriented - Grok — unlimited on paid plans; strong for general use - Magnific Precision — for controlled, high-fidelity outputs
Video generation models include: Seedance 2 (Pro and Fast), Kling 3.0 Turbo, Runway Gen 4.5, Pixverse 6, Google Veo 3.1 (with audio), Wan 2.7, Kling 2.5 (unlimited on some plans), MiniMax Hailuo 2.3 (unlimited on Premium).
Audio: Google Lyria 3 (music), ElevenLabs Music Generation, sound effect generation.
3D: 3D Generator, 3D Scenes, 3D 360 (image-to-360).
Editing tools: Image Upscaler (Magnific + Topaz on Premium+), Relight, Background Remover, Image Extender, Skin Enhancer, Change Camera, Variations, Cinematic Shot.
Workspace: Spaces (collaborative canvas, built for production workflows), Designer (template-based design tool).
Stock: 250M+ photos, videos, vectors, illustrations, icons, 3D models, audio, fonts, PSDs, templates — included on all paid plans.
What it costs in Australia
Freepik shows Australian visitors prices in AUD. Read from Australia on 6 September 2026, the pricing page displayed Premium at A$27 a month (A$18.50 billed annually), Premium+ at A$60 (A$45 annually) and Pro at A$146 (A$109.50 annually) — the vendor's own figures, used in the table below. Whether those AUD prices include GST is not stated. The USD column is what the same page shows outside Australia. A 30-day refund guarantee applies.
| Plan | Monthly (USD) | Annual (USD/month) | AUD monthly approx (×1.40) | AUD annual approx (×1.40, ex-GST) | Credits/year | Unlimited models |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | US$0 | — | — | — | Limited | None |
| Premium | US$20 | US$14.50 | A$27 (vendor AUD price) | A$18.50 (vendor AUD price) | 240K | 6 image models |
| Premium+ | US$45 | US$33.75 | A$60 (vendor AUD price) | A$45 (vendor AUD price) | 600K | 30+ models incl. Flux, Kling, Grok, Nano Banana |
| Pro | US$280 | US$210 | A$146 (vendor AUD price) | A$109.50 (vendor AUD price) | 4M + 20% credit discount | 30+ models + Nano Banana Pro |
| Business | US$69/seat | US$55/seat | ~A$97/seat (our conversion) | ~A$77/seat (our conversion) | 1.08M (team pool) | 30+ models; up to 25 users (seat limit — confirm at magnific.com/pricing) |
Credits are valid for 12 months — no monthly resets. Top-up credits can be purchased at any time.
The "unlimited" label on 30+ models means generation on those models does not consume credits. Video with premium models, high-resolution image generation, and specialist tools still burn credits regardless of tier.
Which tier suits most Australian users? - Occasional use (social graphics, personal projects): Premium at A$18.50/month annual - Regular content creation, marketing teams: Premium+ at A$45/month annual — the sweet spot - High-volume production teams: Pro or Business, but costs escalate quickly in AUD terms
How it works in practice
Sign up at magnific.com. The interface has changed since the Freepik AI days — the platform now groups tools into image, video, audio, 3D, and design sections. Spaces provides a shared canvas where you can prompt, generate, edit, and organise assets in one view.
The AI image generator workflow: type a prompt, select a model, set resolution and aspect ratio, click generate. On unlimited models you see results in 10–30 seconds without credit consumption. On credit-consuming models, costs display before you run.
Switching models mid-session is fast. You can generate a portrait on Grok, generate a vector-style image on Krea 2, and run text-on-image on Recraft without leaving the page. For a small business needing varied image types across one month of content, this breadth is the platform's main selling point.
Video generation works the same way: select a video model, write a prompt (or use an image as a reference), set duration and resolution, and wait — typically 2–5 minutes. Quality on Kling 3.0 Turbo at 1080p is strong for social video. Veo 3.1 with audio generates video with ambient or narration audio, which is practical for product demonstrations.
The Designer tool is a Canva-adjacent workspace — templates, drag-and-drop, export to common formats. It is not as polished as Canva or Adobe Express, but it is included in the subscription rather than a separate cost.
The Magnific upscaler
Magnific started life as a standalone AI image upscaler, built by a small team and acquired by Freepik in May 2024. It ran independently at magnific.ai for two years, doing one thing: taking low-resolution images and making them bigger — not by stretching pixels, but by using a diffusion model to generate plausible new detail where a traditional upscaler would blur. When Freepik took the Magnific name for the whole company on 28 April 2026, the standalone service was folded into the platform at magnific.com/ai/image-upscaler and the old plans disappeared. This section covers what that tool does, because for a lot of Australian photographers and product marketers it is the reason to subscribe.
What it offers. Upscale (up to 16× using generative detail reconstruction) · Enhance (sharpen and add detail at the same resolution) · DeNoise · DeJPEG (compression damage) · Portrait mode (upscale faces while keeping natural skin texture) · Nature mode (plausible vegetation and terrain) · a creativity slider that controls how much new detail the model invents · an HDR slider · a text prompt to steer the added detail · and a Video Upscaler on Premium+ and above. Everything runs on Magnific's cloud — no local GPU — and a still image takes one to three minutes.
How it behaves. The creativity slider is the whole game. Low settings give you a well-sharpened original; high settings invent texture that was never there — convincing pores and fine hair on a phone portrait that has to print at A3, grass blades and bark on a landscape. Push it too far and results look over-processed or inconsistent. Portrait mode does not smooth skin the way consumer apps do; it adds realistic texture, which is what retouchers want. The Video Upscaler is good on talking-head footage; complex motion can produce artefacts at high creativity. Results vary by source: portraits, product shots and defined subjects are the sweet spot; abstract images, heavily stylised illustrations and large flat-colour areas can come out uneven.
What it costs now. The standalone magnific.ai plans — Pro US$39, Premium US$99, Business US$299 a month — no longer exist. The upscaler is included from Premium (A$27 a month, A$18.50 annual), and Premium+ and above add the Topaz upscalers as well. That is a lower entry price than the old standalone product, with the caveat that you are now inside a much larger app you may not have wanted. Upscaling consumes credits per operation: Premium's 240,000 credits a year is roughly 2,600 upscaled 2K images — about seven a day — so heavy print or catalogue workflows will need Premium+ or Pro, and there is no batch API on the entry plans.
If you only need the upscaler and generate few images, Topaz Photo AI's one-time purchase may be the cheaper path for heavy photographic use — see Alternatives.
What it does well
Model breadth in one subscription. No other platform at this price aggregates Flux, Nano Banana, Kling, Runway, Veo, Grok, Krea, Recraft, GPT Image, and ElevenLabs audio behind one login. For a marketing team that needs a landscape from Flux, a video from Kling, and a music track from Lyria in the same afternoon, the single-subscription model saves time and account management overhead.
Unlimited generations on core models. At Premium+ (~AUD$47/month annual), generation on 30+ models including Flux.2 Pro, Nano Banana 2, Kling 2.5, Grok, and Recraft V4.1 Pro does not consume credits. For a designer or marketer generating 20–50 images per day, this is significantly more cost-effective than a credit-per-image model.
Magnific upscaler included. Premium and above include the best-in-class AI image upscaler. Premium+ and Pro also include Topaz upscalers. This saves a separate upscaler subscription.
Stock library. 250M+ licensed stock assets alongside the AI generation tools. For a small business, replacing a Shutterstock subscription and an image generation subscription with one Magnific subscription has genuine value.
Commercial licence on all paid plans. Generated images and videos are cleared for commercial use under the Magnific commercial AI licence. Music rights are included at Premium+ and above.
Collaborative Spaces. A shared canvas that lets a team work on a visual project together, with parallel generation slots. Useful for agencies and in-house teams.
What it doesn't do well
USD pricing with no AUD option. Every Australian user pays in US dollars, subject to exchange rate movement. GST is added at checkout but not included in advertised prices. The total cost in AUD is higher than the listed USD price at current exchange rates (~1.40) plus GST (~10%), making the effective Premium+ cost closer to AUD$58/month annually — not the AUD$52 you'd calculate from USD alone.
No Australian data residency. Freepik Company S.L.U. is incorporated in Málaga, Spain. Data is processed on European infrastructure. There is no Australian data centre. Businesses with data sovereignty obligations should note this.
Credit system is opaque for new users. Understanding which models consume credits and which do not requires reading the documentation. The pricing page displays credit estimates per model, but it takes time to internalise.
Video burns credits fast. On Premium (240K credits/year), one 4-second Seedance 2 Pro clip costs 1,120 credits. That is approximately 214 video clips per year on the Premium plan — fewer than one per day. Premium+ or Pro is necessary for regular video production.
No dedicated Australian support. Customer support is web form / email. No AEST business-hours coverage. No Australian phone line. No local account management below enterprise tier.
The platform is large. For a user who just wants to generate a few images, magnific.com can feel overwhelming. The Freepik AI interface was cleaner before the rebrand; the full Magnific platform requires more navigation.
Australian fit: commercial licensing, IP, and data residency
Commercial licence: All paid plans include a commercial AI licence. Music generation rights are included at Premium+ and above (separate "merchandising licence" for some uses — check magnific.com/legal/terms-of-use). The free tier does not include commercial rights. (confirm exact scope of commercial licence, including for video and audio outputs, before using in client deliverables or advertising.)
Training data and IP provenance: Magnific states its AI suite is built on licensed training data. The platform aggregates models from multiple providers (Flux/Black Forest Labs, Kling/Kuaishou, Runway, Veo/Google, GPT Image/OpenAI, and others). The licensing status of training data varies by model — OpenAI and Google have been more explicit about training data frameworks; Black Forest Labs (Flux) is less transparent. For Australian businesses using generated images commercially, the safest models from a training-data standpoint are those from vendors with explicit content-licensing commitments (Google Nano Banana, GPT Image 2.0). Magnific states that Freepik Company S.L.U. uses licensed content for AI training — but this has not been independently audited.
ACL/ACCC note: The Australian Consumer Law prohibits misleading conduct in advertising. AI-generated images used in Australian advertising — particularly for products, food, or services — must not create a false impression of the product. Magnific-generated images of food should not make food look more appealing than it is in reality. The ACCC has not issued specific AI image guidance as of June 2026, but existing misleading-conduct law applies.
Data residency: No Australian data residency. Infrastructure is based in Europe. Freepik Company S.L.U. is GDPR-compliant (for EU users); Australian Privacy Act obligations apply to Australian user data. Review magnific.com/legal/privacy before storing sensitive business assets on the platform.
GST: Added at checkout; not included in listed prices. Prices on the pricing page state they exclude VAT and local taxes.
Upscaling and IP. Magnific's upscaler is proprietary, trained by the original Magnific team on image-enhancement pairs rather than on crawled art, though the training data has not been publicly audited. For an Australian business upscaling its own original photography, the IP picture is clean. Upscaling AI-generated images from other tools for commercial use should be checked against both the originating tool's licence and Magnific's terms.
Australian Consumer Law. Using the upscaler to enlarge AI-generated or heavily reconstructed imagery for Australian advertising — product and food imagery especially — raises the usual question under the ACL of whether the picture accurately represents the product. The ACCC has issued no guidance specific to AI-upscaled images, but the existing framework on misleading visual representations applies.
Alternatives
- Midjourney (midjourney-review-australia-2026) — the benchmark for image quality on a single model. Better for creative direction; weaker for model breadth and video.
- Adobe Firefly (adobe-firefly-review-australia-2026) — commercially safer training-data provenance; best for users already in the Adobe ecosystem. No video generation at comparable depth.
- Topaz Photo AI / Gigapixel (review-topaz-labs-australia-2026) — the upscaler comparison: desktop software, one-time purchase, more control and a slower workflow on a capable machine; also bundled into Magnific Premium+ and above.
- Canva Magic Studio (canva-magic-studio-review-australia-2026) — AUD pricing, familiar interface, image generation included in Canva Pro. Less model breadth; better for non-technical users and design output.
Bottom line
Magnific (formerly Freepik AI) is the broadest AI creative platform available at its price point. For an Australian marketer, designer, or content team that needs access to multiple top image and video models, an AI upscaler, and a stock library without managing separate subscriptions, Premium+ at approximately AUD$47/month (annual) delivers strong value. The rebrand from Freepik to Magnific in April 2026 changed the name and the URL but not the capability or the pricing structure — existing users have nothing to do, and new users are evaluating a platform that is arguably better positioned for the long term. The gaps remain the same: USD-only billing, GST at checkout, no Australian data residency, and no local support. None of those are dealbreakers for most Australian businesses, but they are worth knowing before you sign up.

Update history
- 9 Oct 2026 — Re-checked for the AUD-claim queue (#407), magnific.com/pricing read in a browser on an Australian connection: the three individual plans still show native Australian-dollar prices exactly as in the table — Premium A$27 a month or A$18.50 billed annually, Premium+ A$60 / A$45, Pro A$146 / A$109.50 (annual saves 25%). No figure changes. Capture:
Dossiers/captures/freepik-ai-pricing-2026-10-09.txt. - 6 Sep 2026 — This is now the publication's only Freepik / Magnific review. The 3 June 2026 review (
freepik-review-australia-2026, 18/25) was retired as a duplicate, and the separate Magnific upscaler review (review-magnific-australia-2026, also 18/25) was merged into this one — its upscaler section, the retired standalone plans, and the IP and advertising notes now live below. Every link to either slug points here. Score unchanged at 18/25: the criteria already counted the upscaler under Feature Depth. - 6 Sep 2026 — Score 17 → 18/25: Australian Fit 2 → 3/5, ratified by Adam, because Freepik's pricing page now serves Australian visitors native AUD prices (Premium A$27/A$18.50, Premium+ A$60/A$45, Pro A$146/A$109.50 monthly/annual) — the table and pricing section carry the vendor's AUD figures. The other four criteria are unchanged; no data residency, support or GST statement has moved.

Frequently asked questions
Freepik rebranded to Magnific — what does that mean for my Freepik subscription?
Nothing changes for existing subscribers. On 28 April 2026, Freepik rebranded as Magnific. Your plan, pricing, billing cycle, payment method, and feature access transferred automatically. The URL changed from freepik.com to magnific.com. Old freepik.com URLs redirect to the new site. The AI tools, stock library, and credits you had under Freepik are now under the Magnific brand — same features, same login.
Which Magnific plan is best for an Australian small business?
For most Australian small businesses, Premium+ at US$33.75/month (billed annually — approximately AUD$47/month including estimated GST) is the right entry point. It includes unlimited generation on 30+ models including Flux.2 Pro, Nano Banana, Kling, Grok, and Recraft, plus 600K credits per year for video, audio, and high-resolution image generation, and a commercial AI licence. The Free tier and Premium plan are useful for testing, but Premium+ is where the platform's value becomes compelling for regular business use.
Are Magnific-generated images safe to use in Australian advertising?
All paid Magnific plans include a commercial AI licence covering use of generated images in advertising. However, Australian Consumer Law applies regardless of licence. The ACCC's prohibition on misleading conduct means AI-generated product imagery must not create a false impression of a product — for example, food that looks more appealing in the image than in reality. Magnific states it uses licensed training data, but the training-data provenance of each aggregated model varies by provider. For advertising where IP and accuracy are critical, review the specific model's licensing terms and consider consulting a lawyer.
