Verdict (TL;DR): Adobe Podcast's Enhance Speech is the best free audio cleaner an Australian can use today — it turns a kitchen-table recording into something that sounds studio-grade in minutes. The free tier alone is worth bookmarking. Paying for it is a different question than it was: the standalone Premium plan is gone, and the paid features now sit inside the Adobe Firefly Pro plan at A$32.98 a month, incl. GST — real Australian dollars, which is a genuine plus, at more than double what Premium used to cost a podcaster. Adobe still states no Australian data residency, and the recording side (Studio) is still in beta. Treat it as a brilliant free utility, not a full podcast workstation.

What Adobe Podcast is

Adobe Podcast is a browser-based suite of AI audio tools. You do not install anything. You open it in Chrome or Safari, upload a file, and let Adobe's models do the work.

It has three parts. Enhance Speech is the headline act — an AI filter that strips out background noise, echo and room hum, leaving clean speech. Studio is a browser recording and editing space (still labelled beta as of June 2026). Mic Check analyses your microphone before you hit record and tells you what is wrong.

The thing people actually use is Enhance Speech. Adobe shipped version two in November 2024, and it is genuinely good. You feed it a recording made on a phone in a noisy room, and it hands back something that sounds like a podcast booth. That is the whole pitch, and it largely delivers.

If you record interviews, voice notes, webinars or a small podcast and your audio sounds rough, this is built for you.

What it costs in Australia

Adobe bills Australians in Australian dollars, with GST stated on the price. That is a change from what this review said in June, and it is worth being plain about: these are real prices, not our conversions.

The other change is bigger. The standalone Adobe Podcast Premium plan is gone. The podcast plans page now shows two options — Free, and the Adobe Firefly Pro plan, which is where the former Premium features now live. You can no longer buy Adobe Podcast on its own.

Plan Price an Australian pays What you get
Free A$0 Enhance Speech, audio only, 30-min files up to 500 MB, 1 hour processing per day. Studio capped at 30-min projects, 2 downloads/day, Adobe-branded audiograms.
Adobe Firefly Pro A$32.98/month, incl. GST Everything Premium used to unlock — video support (MP4, MOV), files up to 1 GB / 2 hours, 4 hours processing per day, bulk upload, the strength slider, unlimited Studio downloads, speaker-separated originals, no Adobe branding — plus 4,000 Firefly generative credits a month, Adobe Express Premium and Photoshop on web and mobile.

For reference, Adobe's cheaper Firefly Standard tier is A$16.49/month incl. GST, but it does not carry the Adobe Podcast premium features — Pro is the one that does. The Australian prices are read from Adobe's own storefront and include GST, so an Australian business claiming the spend has a clean figure and a GST line to work with — which is exactly what USD-billed rivals cannot offer. A 30-day free trial is offered.

The catch is what it now costs. For a podcaster who only wants Enhance Speech, the paid step has gone from roughly A$14 a month to A$32.98, and it is no longer severable — you are buying a Firefly plan and getting the audio tools with it. If you use Firefly, Express and Photoshop on the web, the bundle is good value. If you only ever wanted the noise removal, it is not.

Pricing source: Adobe Podcast plans page and Adobe's Firefly plans page, both re-read in a browser from an Australian connection on 21 September 2026. Note that podcast.adobe.com itself shows an unlocalised $19.99 with no currency marker; the Australian price is the one Adobe's main storefront serves.

How it works in practice

Upload a file. Wait. Download the result. That is the loop, and it is fast — a 20-minute interview clears in a couple of minutes on the free tier.

The free tier's real limits are the 30-minute file cap and the one-hour daily ceiling. A weekly 25-minute episode fits comfortably. A two-hour panel does not — you would have to split it, and the daily cap will slow you down. Premium lifts those walls to 1 GB files and four hours a day, which is where regular podcasters land.

The strength slider, locked behind Premium, matters more than it sounds. On the free tier Enhance Speech runs at full strength, and full strength can over-process — voices start to sound slightly robotic or "underwater." Being able to dial it back to 60–70% is the difference between clean and artificial. If you care about that, the free tier will frustrate you.

Studio, the recording side, is the weakest link. It is in beta, browser-based, and fine for a solo voice memo or a remote chat. It is not Riverside or Descript. Most serious users clean their audio in Adobe Podcast and edit somewhere else.

What it does well

  • Best-in-class noise removal, for free. Enhance Speech v2 is the strongest free audio cleaner available to Australians right now. Nothing else free comes close on a noisy recording.
  • No learning curve. Upload, wait, download. A non-technical person gets a usable result on the first try, with no manual to read.
  • Genuinely fast. A 20-minute file enhances in roughly two minutes. You are not waiting around.
  • It runs in the browser. No install, works the same on a Mac or PC, nothing to update.
  • Premiere Pro integration. If you already edit video in Adobe Premiere Pro, Enhance Speech is available on clips inside your timeline.

What it doesn't do well

  • You cannot buy it on its own any more, and the price more than doubled. The standalone Premium plan is retired; the paid features now come only inside the Adobe Firefly Pro plan at A$32.98/month incl. GST, against about A$14 for Premium. Billing in Australian dollars is a genuine improvement; the cost to a podcaster who wants nothing but Enhance Speech is not.
  • No stated Australian data residency. We could not find any statement from Adobe on where Adobe Podcast audio is processed or stored, and the product pages offer no AU-hosting option. Your recordings are uploaded to Adobe's cloud to be processed. For sensitive interviews — legal, medical, confidential business — that matters.
  • Full strength over-processes. On the free tier you cannot soften the effect, and aggressive enhancement can leave voices sounding artificial. The fix is paywalled.
  • Studio is still beta. The recording and editing side is not a finished product. Do not buy this expecting a Riverside or Descript replacement.
  • Hard free limits. The 30-minute file cap and one-hour daily ceiling rule out long-form content unless you pay.

Australian fit

The billing half of this is now a strength. Adobe serves Australians A$32.98/month, incl. GST from its own storefront — a real local price with the tax stated, so you can quote a client a clean figure and claim the GST without guessing. Very few tools in this category manage that. The data half has not moved: Adobe publishes no Australian data-residency statement for Podcast, and audio is uploaded to Adobe's cloud for processing — for a confidential interview, that is a real consideration you should weigh.

There is no AU phone support specific to this product; you are in Adobe's global help system. None of the AI outputs are Australia-aware, but for a noise-removal tool that is irrelevant — clean audio is clean audio in any market.

So the Australian fit is weak on the things that count for business buyers (billing currency, data location, local support) but harmless on outputs. A Melbourne small-business owner can absolutely use it. They just cannot expense it in clean dollars or guarantee where the audio lived.

Alternatives

  • Descript — if you want recording, transcript-based editing and audio cleanup in one tool, not just a cleaner. Pricier, USD-billed, but a genuine workstation.
  • Auphonic — a long-standing audio post-production service with loudness levelling and noise reduction. More technical, less magic, but strong for finishing a full episode.
  • Audacity (free, open-source) — if your priority is keeping audio entirely on your own machine with no cloud upload, Audacity's noise reduction is manual and clunkier, but nothing leaves your computer.

Bottom line

Bookmark the free tier today — every Australian who records anything should have Enhance Speech in their back pocket. It is the best free audio cleaner going, and it asks almost nothing of you.

Whether to pay is the harder call, and harder than it was. The strength slider, longer files and video support now cost A$32.98/month incl. GST inside a Firefly Pro plan — you cannot buy the audio tools alone. At least you are paying in Australian dollars with the GST on the invoice, which is more than most rivals manage. But your audio is still processed offshore with no stated AU residency, and the recording side is unfinished. For a polished, full podcast workflow, look at a dedicated workstation. For rescuing rough audio, nothing beats it. Four stars, held off five by the weak Australian fit.

Score

Criterion Score Note
Value for Money 3/5 Free tier is still exceptional. But the paid step is now A$32.98/mo incl. GST inside a Firefly plan, against about A$14 for the retired standalone Premium — fine if you use the rest of Firefly, poor if you only want audio cleanup. (Was 4/5; cut 21 Sep 2026.)
Ease of Use 5/5 Upload, wait, download. Zero learning curve, no install.
Feature Depth 3/5 Enhance Speech is excellent; Studio is beta and editing is thin.
Australian Fit 3/5 Native AUD billing with GST stated on the price — better than most of the category. Still no stated AU data residency, offshore processing and global-only support. (Was 2/5; lifted 21 Sep 2026 when the no-AUD claim was found to be wrong.)
Reliability & Support 3/5 Adobe backing and stable enhancement; support is global, Studio still beta.
Total 17/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good

Note on stars (Australian Fit gate): the raw total of 17/25 lands in the four-star band, so no gate cap applies. Australian Fit at 3/5 would in any case prevent a five-star rating and keeps it out of the category Top Pick slot. See our Methodology.

Update history
  • 21 Sep 2026 🇦🇺 Currency verified by browser — correction: Adobe charges Australians in Australian dollars, and this review said it did not. Read live on an Australian connection. This review had “there is no AUD billing… Adobe lists it in USD only” and priced Premium as a conversion of US$9.99. Both halves are wrong now. The standalone Adobe Podcast Premium plan has been retired: podcast.adobe.com/en/plans now offers Free and the Adobe Firefly Pro plan, which carries the former Premium features. And adobe.com/products/firefly/plans.html serves an Australian Firefly Pro at A$32.98/month, labelled “incl. GST” — native Australian dollars with the tax stated, not a conversion. (The podcast sub-site shows a bare $19.99 with no currency marker at all, which is the US price and the reason a USD reading was ever plausible; an unlocalised sub-domain is not evidence of the currency a buyer is charged — check the vendor's main storefront.) Two scores move, and they cancel. Australian Fit 2/5 → 3/5: “no AUD billing” was one of its four stated reasons and is now false; no AU data residency, offshore processing and global-only support still stand. Value for Money 4/5 → 3/5: the cheapest paid route for a podcaster went from about A$14 a month to A$32.98, and it can no longer be bought on its own — you buy a whole Firefly plan. Total stays 17/25 and the band is unchanged, so the Australian Fit gate is unaffected: Australian Fit 3/5 still keeps it below five stars and out of any Top Pick slot. aud_native: true set. Method note: Adobe splits each price across price-currency-symbol / price-integer / price-decimals spans, so a scan for a A$nn.nn text node finds nothing at all — and an empty result reads exactly like a clean page. Query the span.price blocks and look for a price-strikethrough sibling. Doing that here shows Firefly Standard (A$16.49) and Pro (A$32.98) are standing prices, while Pro Plus and Premium are running a promotion to 21 October (A$79.99→A$55.99 and A$329.99→A$230.99). Frequently asked questions

Is Adobe Podcast available in Australia?

Yes. It's a browser-based suite you open in Chrome or Safari — nothing to install, and it works the same on a Mac or PC from anywhere.

Does Adobe Podcast charge in AUD?

Yes — corrected 21 September 2026. Adobe's storefront serves Australians A$32.98/month, labelled “incl. GST”, for the Firefly Pro plan that now carries the Adobe Podcast premium features. There is no separate Adobe Podcast Premium plan any more, and the free tier is still A$0. This review previously said Adobe billed in USD only; that was wrong.

Is there a free plan?

Yes, and it's the headline. The free tier gives you Enhance Speech for audio files up to 30 minutes / 500 MB, with one hour of processing a day — the best free audio cleaner an Australian can use right now. The paid Firefly Pro plan adds longer files, video and a 30-day trial.

Where is my audio processed?

Offshore, with no stated Australian data residency. Your recordings are uploaded to Adobe's cloud to be processed. For confidential interviews — legal, medical, business — that's a real consideration; Audacity keeps everything on your own machine instead.

Who is Adobe Podcast best for?

Anyone who records interviews, voice notes, webinars or a small podcast and wants rough audio cleaned up fast. Treat it as a brilliant free utility, not a full podcast workstation — Studio is still beta. For a complete workflow, look at Descript.
