Cleanvoice Review Australia 2026: Does It Actually Save You Editing Hours?
- From
- A$15/mo · ex-GST · billed in USD (US$11)
The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictPricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).
Verdict (TL;DR): Cleanvoice does one job — stripping filler words, mouth sounds, stutters and dead air out of recorded audio — and it does it well, fast, and cheaply. If you record a weekly podcast or talking-head video and dread the cleanup, it pays for itself in time. It is not a full editing suite, and there is no AUD billing or Australian data hosting. Recommended for solo podcasters and small studios who want clean audio without learning Audition.

What Cleanvoice is
Cleanvoice is an AI audio cleanup tool aimed at podcasters and video creators. You upload a recording, it analyses the file, and it removes the things that make raw audio sound amateur: "um" and "ah" filler words, lip smacks and mouth clicks, stutters, breath noise, background sound (barking dogs, traffic, a crying baby), and long silent pauses.
It is not a recorder and it is not a timeline editor like Descript or Audition. It is a cleanup pass. You record somewhere else, run the file through Cleanvoice, and download a polished version — or export an edit timeline to Audacity, Audition or Reaper if you want to keep working in your own software.
The pitch on the homepage is blunt: "Edit your podcast in 4 hours 10 mins. Automatically." The point is that a job that takes a human editor hours takes the AI minutes. Cleanvoice also does transcription across 20-plus languages, plus auto-generated show notes, chapters and summaries.
What it costs in Australia
Cleanvoice bills in USD or EUR — there is no AUD option and no Australian billing entity. That is not an inference: the pricing page carries an explicit EUR / USD switch, and it serves an Australian visitor US dollars by default (verified in a browser, 21 September 2026). Payments run through Paddle as merchant of record. The page states twice that plans are “listed without VAT”, and its FAQ says only that “sales tax or VAT may be charged, depending on where you live” — it does not confirm how Australian GST is treated at checkout (not confirmed by the vendor). The AUD figures below are straight conversions at USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026), shown ex-GST: a GST-registered business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service, and other buyers should allow about 10% on top. Check your own invoice for the exact tax line.

Source: cleanvoice.ai/pricing, re-read in a browser from an Australian connection on 21 September 2026 and unchanged since 20 June 2026. Cleanvoice does not brand its subscription tiers — the pricing page lists them only by monthly hours (10, 30 and 100); "Starter / Pro / Max" are my labels for readability. Subscription credits roll over up to 3× your monthly allowance. Pay-as-you-go suits irregular publishers; the monthly plans are cheaper per hour (down to US$0.90/hr on the 100-hour tier).
For a typical solo podcaster putting out one 60-minute episode a week, the 10-hour Starter plan at ~A$15/mo is plenty.
How it works in practice
You sign up (30 minutes free, no card), upload a file, and tick the cleanups you want — filler removal, mouth sounds, dead air, noise, and so on. Processing a one-hour file takes a few minutes. You then get an editor view where every proposed cut is listed, so you can keep or reject individual edits before exporting. That review step matters: AI filler-removal occasionally clips a word you meant to keep, and being able to scan the cut list saves you from shipping something that sounds chopped.
Multitrack is supported, so if you record each guest on a separate track, Cleanvoice handles them together. Output formats cover the usual .wav, .mp3, .m4a, .flac and .mp4.
What it does well
- Filler and dead-air removal is genuinely fast. A one-hour file processes in minutes, and the time saved versus manual editing is real — this is the core promise and it delivers.
- You stay in control. The per-edit review list lets you reject any cut before export, which is more honest than tools that silently rewrite your audio.
- Cheap entry point. ~A$15/mo for 10 hours undercuts most rivals, and the free 30-minute trial lets you test on your own recording before paying.
- Exports to real editors. Timeline export to Audacity, Audition and Reaper means you are not locked into Cleanvoice's interface if you already have a workflow.
- EU-anchored hosting is a privacy plus. Core processing sits with German and EU providers, with sub-processors named openly in the DPA (see Australian fit) — more transparent than tools that ship your audio to undisclosed servers, even though parts of the stack reach US-based providers.
What it doesn't do well
- It is not a full editor. No recording, no music beds, no multitrack mixing desk, no publishing to podcast hosts. It is a cleanup pass, not a studio. Budget for separate software.
- No AUD billing and no Australian presence. You pay in USD/EUR, GST handling is unclear, and there is no local support line or AU data residency.
- Filler removal can over-cut. On fast or accented speech it sometimes flags real words as filler. The review step catches this, but it means you cannot fully "set and forget" — plan to scan the cut list.
- Support is email-only. No phone, no live chat on standard plans; priority support is reserved for the 200+ hour custom tier. For a time-sensitive publishing deadline in an Australian timezone, that is a gap.
- Reliability is hard to assess from the outside. Cleanvoice references a service-level agreement but publishes no uptime figure or status history for standard plans, and as a smaller European vendor it offers less operational transparency than larger rivals. We could not verify its reliability either way — treat it as unproven rather than poor.
Australian fit
This is where Cleanvoice scores weakest, and it is the criterion that matters most to this publication.
Billing: USD or EUR only, processed by Paddle. No AUD option. Cleanvoice's pricing page says sales tax or VAT "may be charged, depending on where you live" but does not spell out Australian GST; Paddle generally handles local tax as merchant of record, so confirm the GST line on your own invoice.
Data hosting: Per the Cleanvoice Data Processing Agreement, processing is anchored in the EU — Hetzner (Germany) and Bunny (Slovenia) — but the agreement permits transfers outside the EEA, and several named sub-processors are US-based: DigitalOcean, Cloudflare and Runpod (US), alongside Anthropic (Ireland). So the "EU-hosted" label is broadly true but not absolute — some of the stack sits in the United States. The agreement is governed by Romanian law, with disputes heard in Bucharest. There is no Australian data residency — your recordings leave the country. For most podcast audio that is low-risk, but if you record commercially sensitive or personal-information-heavy material, note it.
Data deletion: The DPA commits to deleting all copies within 14 business days of service cessation, and the company states uploaded audio is not used for AI training without consent.
Support: Email-only on standard plans, European business hours, no AU presence.
Net: the product works fine for Australians, but nothing about it is built for Australians. Australian Fit is 2/5 — EU-anchored hosting and clear deletion terms lift it off the floor, but no AUD, no GST clarity and no local support keep it low.
Alternatives
- Descript — a full text-based editor that does cleanup and recording, multitrack, screen capture and publishing. More powerful, more expensive, steeper learning curve. Choose it if you want one tool for the whole workflow.
- Adobe Podcast — Adobe's Enhance Speech is excellent for noise and clarity, and free at the time of writing. Weaker on filler-word removal.
- Auphonic — a long-standing audio post-processing service (loudness, levelling, noise) that pairs well with Cleanvoice rather than replacing it.
Bottom line
Cleanvoice is a sharp, single-purpose tool that does the boring part of podcast editing fast and cheaply. If you publish regularly and want clean audio without living in Audition, the ~A$15/mo Starter plan is easy to recommend, and the EU hosting is a genuine privacy tick. Just go in clear-eyed: it is a cleanup pass, not a studio, and there is no AUD billing, no Australian support and no local data residency. For the job it claims — strip the ums, breaths and dead air automatically — it earns four stars.
Score
| Criterion | Score | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Value for Money | 4/5 | ~A$15/mo for 10 hours undercuts most rivals; free trial lowers risk. |
| Ease of Use | 4/5 | Upload, tick boxes, review cuts, export — non-technical users get value in minutes. |
| Feature Depth | 4/5 | Deep on cleanup and transcription; shallow as a full editor by design. |
| Australian Fit | 2/5 | No AUD, GST unclear, no AU data residency, no local support. EU-anchored hosting and clear deletion terms save it from a 1. |
| Reliability & Support | 3/5 | Processing is solid in use, but support is email-only and reliability is unproven from the outside — no published uptime figure. |

Update history
- 21 Sep 2026 🇦🇺 Currency verified by browser — the ladder is exact, and the “USD or EUR” claim is now proven. Read live on an Australian connection at
cleanvoice.ai/pricing/: subscription $11 / $30 / $90 a month for 10 / 30 / 100 hours, pay-as-you-go $11 (5 hrs) · $20 (10 hrs) · $45 (30 hrs) with credits valid two years, roll-over up to 3× the plan limit, and a custom plan above 200 hours. Every figure in the table below is right. On currency this page is unusually honest: it carries an explicit EUR / USD switch, which is rare, and it serves an Australian USD by default. So “USD or EUR, no AUD” is verified rather than inferred — there is no Australian dollar anywhere and no AU billing entity.aud_native: falseset explicitly. One correction. The prose said the AUD column was a gross-up — “1.40 plus a 10% allowance to approximate the landed cost”. It is not: A$15 is US$11 at 1.4045 with no tax added, and the same goes for every other row. The page states twice that plans are “listed without VAT”, and under our GST rule a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service, so an ex-GST column is the right one. The prose now matches the figures. The US$20 / 10-hour pay-as-you-go tier, which this review skipped over, is also now named. No score change. - 24 Sep 2026 — The AUD column was never grossed up for GST, and every word around it said it was. The header read “gross-up; GST unconfirmed” and the note beneath described a 10% uplift — while the figures themselves are plain conversions at 1.4045. Checked before changing a word: across the 63 files carrying this wording, 141 rows convert at 1.4045 and none at 1.4045 × 1.10. No figure changed here; only the description of them did. Two things were wrong beyond the arithmetic: gross-up names a tax uplift and was being used for a currency conversion, and GST unconfirmed is stale — our GST rule settled it on 5 September 2026, and a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service. No USD price moved and no score changed.

No. It bills in USD or EUR only, through Paddle as merchant of record. GST handling is unclear — the pricing page only says sales tax or VAT "may be charged." Starter works out around A$15/month converted.
Is there a free plan or free trial?
Yes, a one-off 30-minute free trial with no card required — enough to test it on your own recording before paying.
Where is my audio stored?

Who is Cleanvoice best for?
Solo podcasters and small studios who want clean audio fast without learning Audition. It's a cleanup pass, not a full editor — you'll still need separate recording and publishing software.
