Otterly.AI Review Australia 2026: The cheapest serious way in
- From
- A$35/yr · ex-GST · billed in USD
- Your data
- None for Australia. Primary hosting is AWS Frankfurt (EU); public monitoring data is stored in the US (North Virginia).
The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictVerdict (TL;DR): Most AEO tools want hundreds of dollars a month before you've learnt whether the category is even worth your time. Otterly.AI doesn't. For US$29/month (about A$41 before any tax) you can start watching whether ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot name your business — and what they say when they do. That makes it the cheapest sensible way for an Australian small business to answer the question every owner is starting to ask: do the AI assistants know I exist? The catch is that "cheapest serious" still means serious limits — the entry plan tracks just 15 prompts and leaves Gemini and Google AI Mode as paid add-ons. It's a European product (Austrian-built), bills an Australian in US dollars with no AUD option, and hosts its monitoring data across Frankfurt and the US. But it does offer a proper Australia country view, a genuine 14-day free trial with no card, and pricing you can actually start on. For a small AU business testing the AEO waters, it's the right size at the right price.

What Otterly.AI is
Otterly.AI is an AI search monitoring tool. In plain terms: it tells you whether — and how — your brand shows up when someone asks an AI assistant a question instead of typing it into Google.
You give it a list of "prompts" (the questions a customer might ask, like "who's a good conveyancer in Hobart?"), and it checks how the major AI engines answer them. Does your business get named? Are you cited as a source with a link back to your site? What's the tone when you're mentioned, and who's getting named instead of you? That's the whole job, and Otterly does it across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot on its standard plans, with Google Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude available as paid extras.
It's one of the earliest movers in this space. The company launched its first product in October 2024 and now markets itself as monitoring brand visibility for "30,000+ marketing professionals worldwide." It's a pure-play — it does AEO and nothing else — which is the opposite of the approach the big SEO platforms take by bolting AI visibility onto an existing suite.
The reason it earns a place in this category is price. Where the category benchmark, Profound, is now sales-led — its pricing page shows no public figures, and secondary trackers cite a ~US$99/month entry — and the enterprise-leaning players quote you on application, Otterly opens the door at US$29. For an Australian owner who wants to find out whether AEO matters to their business before committing real money, that gap is the whole story.
What it does well
- It's genuinely affordable to start. US$29/month for the Lite plan is the lowest serious entry price in the category. You're not committing to a US$1,200-a-year platform to answer a question you're not even sure is relevant yet.
- A real free trial, no card. Fourteen days, no payment details required. That's how this kind of tool should be sold — let people see whether AEO is a real concern for their business before they pay.
- It covers the engines that matter. ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot are on every plan. These are the four that drive the most AI-answer traffic, so the base coverage is sensible rather than padded.
- Citation and source tracking, not just mentions. It tracks whether you're cited with a link — the thing that actually sends a customer to your site — not only whether your name appears. It also flags why your content might be getting skipped by AI crawlers and suggests fixes (its "GEO" optimisation layer).
- An Australia country view. You can run your tracking against Australian results rather than defaulting to the US, which matters enormously — what ChatGPT tells a Sydney customer is not what it tells a San Francisco one.
- Unlimited team members on every tier. Even the Lite plan doesn't nickel-and-dime you on seats, which is rare at this price.
What to watch out for
- The Lite plan is genuinely lite — 15 prompts. Fifteen tracked questions is enough to test the waters, not to run a serious monitoring programme. A business with a few products or service lines across a few cities will hit that ceiling fast, and the jump to the next tier is steep (more on that below).
- Gemini and Google AI Mode cost extra. The base plans cover four engines; Google Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude are paid add-ons. Gemini or Google AI Mode runs US$9/month on Lite, scaling to US$59 (Standard) and US$149 (Premium); Claude is dearer at US$29/US$109/US$439. If Gemini matters to your audience — and for Google Workspace-heavy Australian businesses it might — budget for it.
- The price jump after Lite is brutal. Lite is US$29 for 15 prompts. The next plan, Standard, is US$189/month for 100 prompts. There's nothing in between. The moment you outgrow 15 prompts, your bill more than sixfolds. The cheap entry point is real; the cheap middle isn't.
- No AUD billing. From Australia you pay in US dollars — there is no Australian-dollar price and no currency selector — so your real cost drifts with the exchange rate.
- Your monitoring data isn't hosted in Australia. Primary hosting is AWS Frankfurt (EU), and public monitoring data sits in a US data centre (North Virginia). It's GDPR-compliant and fine for marketing data, but there's no Australian data region.
What it costs in Australia
Otterly bills in US dollars — there is no native Australian-dollar option, and no currency selector. (Otterly's own materials have referred to euro billing by location; an Australian browser was served US dollars only on 21 September 2026, so treat EUR as a European-market thing you will not see from here.) The figures below are the USD list prices read off Otterly's pricing page, with AUD converted at USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026) and shown ex-GST. Annual billing knocks roughly 15% off the monthly rate.
| Plan | Price (USD/month) | Approx AUD (1.4045, ex-GST) | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | US$29 (US$25 billed annually) | ≈ A$41 (A$35 annual) | 15 search prompts · 4 engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot) · daily tracking · 1,000 GEO URL audits/mo · unlimited team members · group onboarding |
| Standard (Most Popular) | US$189 (US$160 annually) | ≈ A$265 (A$224 annual) | 100 prompts · same 4 engines · daily tracking · 5,000 GEO audits/mo · API access + MCP support · Looker Studio connector · 2,000 API requests/mo |
| Premium | US$489 (US$422 annually) | ≈ A$687 (A$593 annual) | 400 prompts · same 4 engines · 10,000 GEO audits/mo · API access + MCP · Looker Studio connector · 5,000 API requests/mo · 1M Agent Analytics events/mo · personal onboarding |
| Enterprise | Custom, from US$1,000/mo | from ≈ A$1,405 | Single sign-on, custom payment options, custom terms, quarterly GEO health check, dedicated customer success manager, personalised onboarding |
| Add-on: extra 100 prompts | US$99/mo | ≈ A$139 | Stacks on Standard/Premium |
| Add-on: Gemini or Google AI Mode | US$9 / US$59 / US$149/mo | ≈ A$13 / A$83 / A$209 | Per engine, priced by tier (Lite / Standard / Premium) |
| Add-on: Claude | US$29 / US$109 / US$439/mo | ≈ A$41 / A$153 / A$617 | Priced by tier (Lite / Standard / Premium) |
List prices re-read in a browser from an Australian connection on 21 September 2026 and unchanged since 23 June 2026; the feature allowances and the Enterprise floor were refreshed at the same time. AUD conversions are ours at 1.4045 (ECB, 18 September 2026), not prices Otterly quotes. The annual per-plan figures are as published in June and could not be re-read — the monthly/annual toggle did not re-render the cards on 21 September.
A note on GST. Otterly's pricing and help pages do not state how Australian GST is handled (not confirmed by the vendor). As a rule, offshore digital-service suppliers selling to Australian consumers are required to collect 10% GST under Australia's "Netflix tax" rules, but whether Otterly does so — and whether it issues an invoice carrying your ABN — isn't documented publicly. If you're claiming the spend, check the invoice in-account before assuming it's a compliant tax invoice. We'll update this once confirmed.
Value verdict: As an entry point, Otterly is excellent — US$29 to start watching the AI engines is the best-value way into this category, full stop. The weakness is what happens next. Fifteen prompts won't hold a growing business for long, and the leap to US$189 is jarring with nothing in between. So the honest framing is this: Otterly is the smartest way to find out whether AEO matters to you. Whether it stays the best value once you're serious depends on how many prompts you genuinely need — and at 100-plus prompts, the gap to rivals like Profound narrows considerably.
How it works in practice
The workflow is refreshingly simple, which is the point. You add your prompts — the questions you think your customers are asking the AI assistants — set your country to Australia, and Otterly runs them daily across the engines. You get back a dashboard showing how often you're mentioned, how often you're cited with a link, who else is named in the same answers, and the sentiment of those mentions. Over time you can see whether you're gaining or losing ground.
The prompt research layer helps you find questions worth tracking in the first place, which is useful if you're staring at a blank box wondering what your customers would even ask. The content auditing / GEO side then tells you why you're being skipped and what to change — the AEO equivalent of an SEO site audit. For a small operator, that "here's why and here's the fix" loop is more valuable than another dashboard of numbers.
The thing to internalise is the prompt economy. Everything is metered in prompts, and on Lite you have 15. That's not 15 questions you ask once — it's 15 questions tracked continuously. So you'll spend your first session deciding which 15 questions actually matter to your business. That constraint is fine for testing; it's the reason most businesses that stick with the category end up on Standard.
Australian fit
- Available in Australia: Yes — web-based, no regional lockout, and it offers a dedicated Australia country view so you track AU results rather than US ones. This is the single most important AU feature and Otterly has it.
- Pricing in AUD: No. Billing is in US dollars, with no Australian-dollar option and no currency selector — verified in a browser from an Australian connection on 21 September 2026. Converted at 1.4045: Lite ≈ A$41, Standard ≈ A$265, Premium ≈ A$687 a month, ex-GST. These are our conversions, not prices Otterly quotes, and they move with the exchange rate.
- GST: Not documented
(not confirmed by the vendor). Offshore digital suppliers generally must collect 10% GST on sales to Australian consumers, but Otterly's pages don't confirm its treatment or whether invoices carry an ABN. Check in-account. - Data residency: None for Australia. Primary hosting is AWS Frankfurt (EU); public monitoring data is stored in the US (North Virginia). GDPR-compliant, but no AU data region.
- Local support: None AU-specific. The company is Austrian-built (founded 2024, based in Persenbeug, Austria), so support runs on European hours — the morning in Australia. Onboarding is group-based on lower tiers, personal on Premium.
- AU-aware outputs: Partially. The Australia country view means it tracks the right market, which is more than most rivals offer — but the interface and guidance are global, not localised.
The AU story here is better than for the USD-only SEO giants, mainly because the country view is a real feature rather than an afterthought. But "European tool that lets you select Australia" is not the same as "built for Australia," and the absence of AUD billing, AU hosting and AU support keeps the fit honest rather than excellent.
Alternatives
| Tool | Why you might prefer it |
|---|---|
| HubSpot AI Search Grader | Free. If you just want a one-off snapshot of how AI engines see your brand — not ongoing monitoring — start here before paying anyone. Pairs naturally if you're already in the HubSpot ecosystem. |
| Profound | The category benchmark. More engines, far more prompt volume and deeper analytics, but its pricing is now sales-led (trackers cite a ~US$99/month entry) and it leans enterprise — overkill for a sole trader, the right call for a serious marketing team. |
| Peec AI | EU-built like Otterly, transparently priced (from around $95/month ≈ A$133, though Peec never says which dollar), and markets multi-country coverage including Australia. The closest like-for-like alternative if you want a similar tool with broader country tracking. |
| Scrunch | A heavier "agent experience" platform aimed at larger organisations — monitor, audit, optimise and deliver. Quote-based, enterprise-leaning; relevant if AEO is a whole-of-business programme, not a test. |
| Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit | If you already pay for Semrush for SEO, its AI Visibility add-on (US$99/mo) may let you track AI answers without a second subscription. Check before paying twice. |
Bottom line
Otterly.AI does exactly what its price promises: it lets an Australian business find out, cheaply and quickly, whether the AI assistants know it exists. At US$29/month with a no-card trial and a proper Australia country view, it's the best-value on-ramp into AEO we've found — and for a small business that isn't yet sure this category matters, "cheap enough to just try it" is the most useful thing a tool in this space can be.
It falls short of a top score for honest reasons. Fifteen tracked prompts is a teaspoon, and the jump to a working amount costs more than six times as much. Gemini and Google AI Mode aren't in the box. You pay in US dollars, your data lives in Frankfurt and Virginia, and there's no Australian billing, hosting or support line. None of that is disqualifying — but it's the difference between "excellent for testing" and "excellent, full stop."
It scores 17 — Very Good. We'd recommend it without hesitation as the way to start in this category: run the free trial, track your 15 most important questions, and decide whether AEO is a real lever for your business before you spend serious money. If it is, you can scale up inside Otterly or graduate to a deeper tool with your eyes open. As the best-value entry point in AI search visibility, it's hard to beat — and its weak-by-default Australian fit is the only thing keeping it off the top rung.
Score
| Criterion | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Value for Money | 4/5 | The cheapest serious entry at US$29/mo with a real no-card trial — but Lite's 15 prompts and the steep jump to US$189 cap it short of a five |
| Ease of Use | 4/5 | Simple prompt-and-track workflow a non-specialist can run; the prompt budget forces useful discipline rather than confusion |
| Feature Depth | 3/5 | Solid core — mentions, citations, sentiment, competitor view and GEO audits — but four base engines (Gemini/AI Mode/Claude cost extra) and lighter analytics than Profound |
| Australian Fit | 3/5 | A genuine Australia country view is a real plus, but no AUD billing, no AU hosting, no AU support and undocumented GST keep it mid-table |
| Reliability & Support | 3/5 | Established early mover with daily tracking and onboarding, but European-hours support, no AU presence and limited public uptime/security detail |
| Total | 17/25 | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good |
Update history
- 21 Sep 2026 🇦🇺 Currency verified by browser — USD confirmed, list prices unchanged, two internal contradictions fixed. Read live on an Australian connection at
otterly.ai/pricing/: Lite $29 · Standard $189 · Premium $489 per month, extra 100 prompts at $99, and the prompt, engine, GEO-audit and API allowances all as written here. EverypriceCurrencydeclaration on the page reads USD;AUDandA$appear nowhere and there is no currency selector.aud_native: falseset explicitly. Three changes. The Enterprise tier now carries a floor — “starting from $1,000/month” — where this review had it as an open custom quote. The AUD figures in the Australian-fit section were still on the retired 1.55 basis (A$45 and A$293, which are US$29 and US$189 at 1.55) while the pricing table beside them used 1.40 — the review was quoting two different Australian prices for the same plan. Both are now cut at USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB, 18 September 2026), and two mangled sentence fragments left by an earlier automated edit (“— alls.” and “and ares,”) are repaired. One claim softened: this review says Otterly bills “in USD or EUR depending on your location”. An Australian browser sees US dollars only, with no euro option and no currency control anywhere on the page, so the EUR half is now marked as not reproducible from Australia. No score change — Australian Fit 2/5 rested on no AUD, no AU hosting and no AU support, all still true. Frequently asked questions
Is Otterly.AI available in Australia?
Yes — it's web-based with no regional lockout, and it offers a dedicated Australia country view so you can track how the AI engines answer for Australian customers rather than US ones. There's no AU office, though; the company is Austrian-built, so support runs on European hours.
How much does Otterly.AI cost in Australian dollars?
There's no AUD pricing — you're billed in US dollars or euros depending on location. The entry Lite plan is US$29/month (about A$41 at 1.40), Standard is US$189/month (about A$265), and Premium is US$489/month (about A$685). Annual billing saves roughly 15%. AUD figures are estimates, not quoted prices.
Does Otterly.AI have a free trial?
Yes — a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. That's the smart way to use it: track your most important questions for two weeks and decide whether AI search visibility is a real concern for your business before paying.
Which AI engines does Otterly.AI track?
The standard plans cover ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Google Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude are available as paid add-ons (from around US$9/month upward, depending on your plan).
Is Otterly.AI good for small Australian businesses?
As a starting point, yes — it's the cheapest serious way to find out whether the AI assistants name your business, and the Australia country view means it tracks the right market. The 15-prompt Lite plan suits testing rather than ongoing monitoring; expect to move to the US$189 Standard plan if AEO turns out to matter to you.
