The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.

Earlier editions of this review: 3 Jun 2026 — 19/25. This is edition 2, dated 21 Sep 2026. We keep every edition so you can see how the tool and our verdict have moved — how and why.
Verdict (TL;DR): LALAL.AI is the most polished AI stem separator you can buy, and for most Australians it's the one to reach for. Feed it a song and it pulls out clean vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano, synth, strings or wind — the current Andromeda engine cuts the vocal-bleed and reverb artefacts that plagued earlier tools, and it's fast. The pricing is unusually fair: a free tier to test quality, two cheap subscriptions (Lite from USD$7.50/month billed annually, Pro from USD$15), and — the part that matters for occasional users — one-time minute packs from USD$50 so you never have to hold a subscription you won't use. It also states plainly that it doesn't train AI on your uploads. The catches are the usual ones for an overseas tool: USD-only billing, GST undisclosed, no Australian data residency or support, and a preview-only free tier. For Australian musicians, DJs, podcasters and content makers who need clean stems, LALAL.AI is our pick.

What LALAL.AI is

LALAL.AI does one thing and does it better than almost anyone: it takes a finished recording and splits it back into its parts. Upload a song, an audio clip or a video and it isolates the vocals, instrumental, drums, bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, synthesiser, strings and wind — plus a voice-and-noise clean-up mode, a lead/backing-vocal splitter, and an echo-and-reverb remover. There are sibling tools too: a Voice Cleaner, Voice Changer and Voice Cloner.

It started in 2020 as a simple two-stem (vocal/instrumental) tool, became the "world's first 10-stem splitter" in 2021, and has grown into a full suite that runs on the web, desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux), iOS, Android, a VST plugin and a public API. The vendor says registered users grew from 3.8 million in 2024 to 6.79 million in 2025. The current engine is Andromeda, its sixth-generation, transformer-based model — the vendor reports it's around 40% faster and roughly 10% cleaner (by signal-to-distortion ratio) than the previous Perseus engine.

One detail worth getting right: LALAL.AI is operated by OmniSale GmbH, a Switzerland-registered company — not a US firm. And on the question every AI tool now has to answer, its privacy policy states it does not use your uploads to train AI and claims no rights over your audio.

What it costs in Australia

LALAL.AI runs on a minutes model — and crucially, you can buy those minutes either as a subscription or as a one-time pack. Minutes are consumed by file length multiplied by the number of stem types you select, so a 5-minute song split into 3 stems costs 15 minutes.

On lalal.ai, pricing is USD only — there's no AUD display and no currency selector. The AUD figures below are estimates at US$1 ≈ A$1.40; GST isn't disclosed, so expect about 10% added at checkout under the imported-digital-services rules and confirm it on your first invoice. (Corrected 21 Sep 2026 — this paragraph previously said the tool has no AUD price at all. It has one, on the App Store; see below.)

Subscriptions

Plan Price (USD) Price (AUD est.) What you get
Starter $0 $0 10 minutes, preview only — no full download; 200 MB upload limit
Lite $9.99/mo or $90/yr (= $7.50/mo) ~$14/mo or ~$126/yr 90 priority "Fast queue" minutes/month + unlimited Relaxed-queue minutes; downloads; batch processing; 2 GB uploads
Pro $19.99/mo or $180/yr (= $15/mo) ~$28/mo or ~$252/yr 250 Fast-queue minutes/month + unlimited Relaxed; downloads; batch; early access; 2 GB uploads

One-time minute packs (pay-as-you-go, no subscription)

Pack Price (USD, one-time) Price (AUD est.) Priority minutes
Master $50 (sale; list $100) ~$70 750
Premium $190 ~$267 3,000
Enterprise $300 ~$420 5,000

One-time minute packs in Australian dollars (iPhone and iPad only)

The Australian App Store listing declares "priceCurrency":"AUD", names OmniSale GmbH as seller of record, and sells two packs — no subscription:

Pack (in-app) Price Per minute GST
25 minutes A$7.99 A$0.32 Included — Apple is merchant of record in Australia
90 minutes A$22.99 A$0.26 Included

Read this before you reach for it. The in-app packs are about three times dearer per minute than the web Master pack (750 minutes for US$50 ≈ A$70, roughly A$0.09 a minute), and the app sells no Lite or Pro subscription, so regular users still buy on the web. What the App Store gives an Australian is a A$7.99 entry point instead of a US$50 one, quoted in their own currency with GST already in it and a tax invoice they can retrieve. Buy a small pack in the app to test; buy the web pack once you know you'll use it. Read 21 September 2026.

Pricing as of 3 June 2026, from lalal.ai/pricing. Fast-queue minutes reset monthly and don't roll over; Relaxed-queue processing is unlimited on paid plans but queues by server load. Subscriptions are non-refundable. API access runs on the same minute packs via an account key; high-volume use is quote-only.

Value verdict: This is the fairest pricing in the category. If you split tracks regularly, Pro at an effective USD$15/month (annual) is strong value for 250 priority minutes plus unlimited relaxed processing. If you only need stems now and then, the one-time Master pack is the standout — you pay once and never carry a subscription you forget to cancel. Note the price: it was showing USD$50 against a struck-through USD$100 list price on 21 September 2026, so the headline figure is a sale, and the pack is twice that if the promotion ends. The one catch: the free Starter tier is preview only, so you must pay before you can download a result.

How it works in practice

Upload your file, choose what you want out — vocals and instrumental, or a fuller split into drums, bass, guitar and so on — preview the result, and download. The Andromeda engine is the reason the output is worth paying for: the isolated vocal comes out with far less of the watery, reverb-smeared bleed that older separators left behind, and the instrumental is clean enough to actually use. For producers, the batch processing (on Lite and Pro) and the API turn it from a one-off web tool into something you can run at scale. There's also a local VST plugin (powered by LALAL.AI's on-device "Lyra" engine rather than Andromeda) for working inside your DAW.

The "Fast" versus "Relaxed" queue distinction takes a moment to grasp: your monthly priority minutes go through the fast lane, and once they're gone, paid plans keep working through an unlimited relaxed queue that simply waits its turn when servers are busy. In practice that means you rarely hit a hard wall — you either wait a little or top up.

What it does well

  • The cleanest separation in the category. The Andromeda engine noticeably reduces the vocal-bleed and reverb artefacts that older tools leave behind — the output is production-usable, not just listenable.
  • You can pay once. One-time minute packs (from USD$50) mean occasional users never have to hold a subscription — genuinely rare, and ideal for someone who splits a track a few times a year.
  • Serious depth for producers. Ten-plus stem types, batch processing, a public API, a VST plugin, and extra tools (Voice Cleaner, Changer, Cloner, echo/reverb removal) beyond plain separation.
  • A clear no-training policy. The vendor states it doesn't train AI on your uploads and claims no rights over your audio — important when you're working with other people's recordings.
  • It runs everywhere. Web, desktop on all three platforms, iOS, Android, plugin and API.

What to watch out for

  • USD-only, no AUD. There's no AUD pricing and no currency selector; you pay in US dollars at your bank's exchange rate.
  • GST isn't disclosed. Expect about 10% added at checkout and confirm the line on your first tax invoice — it isn't shown up front.
  • The free tier is preview-only. You can test separation quality but can't download a full result without paying.
  • No Australian data residency or support. It's a Swiss vendor with overseas processing servers, email-only support and no AU business hours.
  • No AU-relevant certifications. GDPR-aligned, but no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or IRAP advertised — a consideration for organisations.

Australian fit

  • Available in Australia: Yes — web, desktop, iOS, Android and API, no geographic restriction.
  • Pricing in AUD: In the app, yes; on the web, no. The Australian App Store sells one-time minute packs in Australian dollars with GST included — 25 minutes A$7.99, 90 minutes A$22.99 — but no subscription. lalal.ai itself is USD only with no currency selector: expect roughly AUD$15/month landed on Lite, or about AUD$70 for the one-time 750-minute pack, which is still about a third of the in-app rate per minute. (Corrected 21 Sep 2026 — this line previously read "No. USD only, no currency selector.")
  • GST: Not disclosed on the pricing page for the web path — expect 10% at checkout and confirm on your invoice. On the App Store packs it is settled: Apple bills Australians through its Australian entity, so the A$ figure includes GST and the receipt is a valid tax invoice.
  • Data residency: None for Australia. Swiss vendor, overseas processing servers.
  • Local support: None AU-specific — email and help centre.
  • Training on your data: No. The privacy policy states uploads aren't used to train AI and the vendor claims no rights over your audio.

Alternatives

App Why you might prefer it
Moises If you want separation plus a practice room (chord detection, metronome, pitch/tempo) and native AUD, GST-inclusive App Store billing. (Read our Moises review →)
LANDR If your real need is AI mastering and distribution rather than separation.
Ultimate Vocal Remover (free) The free, do-it-yourself pick if you're comfortable with a more technical setup and don't need batch, API or a polished UI.

Bottom line

For an Australian who needs to split a song into clean parts — to remix, sample, make a backing track, or lift a clean vocal — LALAL.AI is the pick. The separation quality is the best in the category, and the pricing is the most honest: cheap subscriptions if you do this often, and a pay-once minute pack if you don't. If you split tracks weekly, take Pro (effective USD$15/month annual); if it's occasional, buy the USD$50 Master pack and forget about it.

It scores 19 rather than higher for reasons that are entirely about being an overseas tool, not about quality. There's no AUD pricing, GST isn't disclosed, there's no Australian data residency or local support, and the free tier won't let you download. The product itself is excellent, and the no-training policy is reassuring for anyone working with other people's recordings. For clean stems with fair, flexible pricing, this is our recommendation in the produce half of the category. We'll refresh it if pricing or the data terms move.

Score

Criterion Score Notes
Value for Money 4/5 Cheap subscriptions and one-time minute packs make this the most flexible pricing in the category — buy once, carry no subscription. Held off five because every subscription price is in US dollars with no currency selector. The Australian App Store does sell AUD minute packs (25 min A$7.99, 90 min A$22.99, GST included), but at roughly three times the web rate per minute, so it buys convenience rather than value and does not lift this row. (Was 5/5; corrected 21 Sep 2026. Rationale expanded 21 Sep 2026; mark unchanged — see Update history.)
Ease of Use 4/5 Upload, pick stems, preview, download; clean UI, but the minute-deduction maths and Fast/Relaxed queue take a moment to grasp
Feature Depth 5/5 10+ stem types, six engine generations, batch, API, VST, plus Voice Cleaner/Changer/Cloner and echo/reverb removal
Australian Fit 3/5 Fully usable, one-time packs and a no-training policy help. Real AUD billing exists on the Australian App Store — minute packs at A$7.99 and A$22.99, GST included, OmniSale GmbH as seller of record — but it covers packs only, not subscriptions, and costs about three times the web rate per minute, so the web remains USD-only with GST undisclosed. No AU data residency or support. (Rationale corrected 21 Sep 2026; mark unchanged — see Update history.)
Reliability & Support 2/5 Mature product (6.79M users) and a strong privacy stance, but email-only support, no AU hours, no SOC 2/ISO/IRAP advertised
Total 18/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good
Update history
  • 21 Sep 2026 — There is an Australian-dollar path after all, and it is on the App Store — but it is about three times dearer per minute. This review says "Pricing is USD only — there's no AUD display and no currency selector" and its Australian fit list answers "Pricing in AUD: No." Both describe lalal.ai and both remain true of the web. The Australian App Store listing for LALAL.AI: Vocal Remover (apps.apple.com/au/app/lalal-ai-vocal-remover/id6448799140, seller OmniSale GmbH) declares "priceCurrency":"AUD" and sells two one-time minute packs in Australian dollars, GST included, on an Apple tax invoice: 25 minutes A$7.99 and 90 minutes A$22.99. Read from the rendered listing in a browser on 21 September 2026 — the pack list sits inside a collapsed <details> block and does not come back in a plain fetch — and cross-checked against Apple's own AU lookup endpoint, which returns currency: AUD and sellerName: OmniSale GmbH. No score moves, and the arithmetic is why. A$7.99 for 25 minutes is A$0.32 a minute; A$22.99 for 90 minutes is A$0.26. The web Master pack is 750 minutes for US$50, about A$0.09 a minute — roughly a third of the in-app rate — and the app sells no subscription at all, so Lite and Pro are web-only. What the app buys you is a small denomination: A$7.99 to try it against a US$50 minimum on the web, in your own currency, with GST already in the number. That is a genuine convenience and it is now in the pricing section, but it is not better value and it does not touch Value for Money (4/5) or Australian Fit (3/5), both of which fail for reasons the App Store does not fix — no AU data residency, no local support, no subscription in AUD. aud_native set true: an Australian can now buy something from LALAL.AI in Australian dollars. Was: "Pricing in AUD: No. USD only, no currency selector." Found by the app-store pricing pass, Audits/app-store-pricing-2026-09-21.md. Source · Wayback: capture pending (archive.org saving unavailable 21 Sep 2026).
  • 21 Sep 2026 — The Master pack's US$50 is a sale price, not the list price, and this review leans a scoring judgement on it. Re-verified in a browser from an Australian IP. The currency position is confirmed again — every plan in the page's own price object carries currency: "USD", and there is no AUD and no currency selector, so aud_native: false is now explicit. But the Top-Ups tab renders "$100 $50 -50%": the one-time Master pack is a half-price promotion against a US$100 list price, and this review calls it "the standout" and "the fairest pricing in the category" at US$50 without saying it is discounted. Premium (US$190) and Enterprise (US$300) carry no discount. Subscriptions are unchanged and correct: Lite US$9.99/mo or US$90/yr, Pro US$19.99/mo or US$180/yr. • 21 Sep 2026 — Value for Money corrected 5/5 → 4/5. Total 19/25 → 18/25. The band does not change: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good. Not a vendor change: re-verified at lalal.ai/pricing today — Starter free, Lite US$7.50/mo (US$90 annual), Pro US$15/mo (US$180 annual), top-up packs at US$50 / US$190 / US$300, USD only, no currency selector. The 5/5 was wrong when it was set. Value for Money asks three things and one of them is AUD pricing; this review's own Value for Money row answered it in US dollars — "cheap subscriptions (from USD$7.50/mo annual), and one-time packs from USD$50" — while the Australian Fit row three lines below scored it down for being "USD-only". Same table, opposite answers. The one-time packs are a real structural advantage and keep this at four rather than three. Australian Fit 3/5 unchanged; Australian Fit outcome unchanged. • 21 Sep 2026 — Two discrepancies recorded, neither scored and neither changed in the body. (1) This review says the free Starter tier is preview-only; the pricing page today presents Starter as 10 minutes in the Relaxed queue. Settling which is right needs an account. (2) The page shows Lite at US$7.50/mo and US$90 billed annually, which is no annual saving at all on the arithmetic — this review describes US$7.50 as the annual rate. Both queued for the monitor.
  • 3 Jun 2026 — First reviewed.
  • 24 Sep 2026 — 1 Australian figure recut to the current basis. It was converted at about 1.55 — the retired basis — inside a column headed ex-GST whose other rows were already at 1.4045. Corrected to US$1 = A$1.4045 (Frankfurter/ECB, 18 September 2026): Premium ~$295 → ~$267. No USD price moved and no score changed. reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.

Frequently asked questions

Is LALAL.AI available in Australia?

Yes — it runs on web, desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux), iOS, Android, a VST plugin and an API, with no geographic restriction. Support is email and help-centre only, with no AU business hours.

Does LALAL.AI charge in AUD?

It depends where you buy. On lalal.ai, no — pricing is USD only with no AUD display or currency selector, GST isn't disclosed, and Lite lands around AUD$15/month. In the iPhone or iPad app, yes: the Australian App Store sells one-time minute packs in Australian dollars with GST included — 25 minutes for A$7.99 and 90 minutes for A$22.99 — on an Apple tax invoice. There is no in-app subscription, and the packs work out about three times dearer per minute than the web Master pack, so use the app to start small and the web to buy in bulk.

Do I have to subscribe, or is there a free plan?

You can pay once. The free Starter tier is preview-only (no download), but the standout is one-time minute packs from USD$50 (~A$70 for 750 minutes), so occasional users never carry a subscription. Subscriptions (Lite, Pro) suit regular use.

Does LALAL.AI train on my audio?

No. Its privacy policy states it doesn't use your uploads to train AI and claims no rights over your audio — reassuring when you're working with other people's recordings. It's GDPR-aligned but advertises no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or IRAP. Data is processed on overseas servers (operated by a Swiss-registered company), with no Australian residency.
