Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).

⚠ Renamed — Coda is now Superhuman Docs. The change landed on 8 July 2026. Coda's own homepage now carries the banner "Coda is now Superhuman Docs!", and coda.io/pricing 301-redirects to superhuman.com/plans/docs. The vendor is blunt that the product itself survives: "Coda is now Superhuman Docs — the product you know is still here, just under a new name."

Three things did change, and two of them cost money. Pro rose from US$10 to US$12 per Doc Maker per month on annual billing. The Team tier was renamed Business and rose from US$30 to US$33. And on 6 July 2026 Superhuman paused the Coda AI credit system entirely — the 2,000, 6,000 and 12,000 monthly credit allowances this review scores no longer apply, replaced during the Docs AI beta by unspecified "generous limits" for paid Doc Makers.

If you already subscribe, nothing moves. Superhuman states existing plans, pricing and billing are unchanged, and that staying on your current Docs plan at your current price "isn't going away". The new figures are what a new Australian buyer pays.

The 15/25 score is carried, not defended. Value for Money scored 5/5 on being the cheapest bundle with the most generous credits. The price rose and the credit system was withdrawn, so that criterion is flagged for re-rating.

Coda AI is the AI layer baked into Coda — the same docs-meet-databases workspace that small teams adopt when Notion feels too rigid and Google Docs feels too thin. It is also, on the numbers, the most generously bundled workspace AI on the comparison table. Every paid plan includes Coda AI. Only the people authoring docs pay a seat fee. A five-person Melbourne consultancy with two Doc Makers and three Editors pays USD$20 a month, total, for full Coda AI access — materially cheaper than the Notion or ClickUp equivalent.

The Australian lens is less flattering. No AUD pricing. No data residency outside the US. No IRAP. GST handling is not specifically documented for Australia — Coda supports a generic Tax ID field where you can enter your ABN, but doesn't lay out the AU mechanic the way Notion or Asana do. And the corporate context has shifted three times in eighteen months: Grammarly bought Coda in December 2024, renamed itself Superhuman in October 2025, and on 8 July 2026 renamed Coda itself to Superhuman Docs. The product is intact. The name, the URL and the price list are not.

It scores 15/25 — Good. Recommended if Coda is already your workspace. A clear skip if you're shopping for an AI tool in isolation.

What is Coda AI?

Coda is a doc-database hybrid: pages that look like documents, with tables that behave like databases, and 600-odd Packs that pull in live data from Salesforce, Jira, GitHub, Airtable and the rest. Coda AI is the AI layer that runs through all of it.

Four headline surfaces. AI Chat is the in-doc dialogue — brainstorming, drafting, Q&A against the doc you're sitting in. AI Assistant generates content from scratch, summarises long pages, builds tables from a prompt. AI Column is the one that earns its keep — apply an AI instruction across every row of a table to enrich, classify or rewrite at scale. AI Blocks are embeddable AI components inside a doc.

Above that sits Coda Brain, a turnkey enterprise knowledge layer powered by Snowflake Cortex. The pitch: your company's knowledge, indexed across every Coda doc and connected Pack, queryable in plain English. The catch: it has been in "limited beta for enterprise teams" since June 2024 with no public GA date and no public pricing.

Coda is provider-agnostic on models. The parent company's subprocessor list names OpenAI, Anthropic and Azure as "Generative AI providers." Coda does not publish specific model versions on its public AI page.

The corporate context matters. Grammarly acquired Coda on 17 December 2024, then rebranded itself to Superhuman on 29 October 2025 — Coda is now one of four products in the Superhuman Suite. The vendor commitment, repeated in both announcements, is that nothing changes for Coda customers. The product evidence so far supports that. The trust documentation evidence is messier.

What we like

The bundle is the cheapest on the table. Notion AI is paywalled into the Business plan at USD$20/seat/month annual. Coda includes AI on every paid plan — 2,000 credits per Doc Maker per month on Pro (USD$10/seat/month annual, ~AUD$14 estimated ex-GST), 6,000 on Team, 12,000 on Enterprise. For an AU team that already has Coda in its stack, switching the AI on costs nothing extra.

Maker Billing punishes nobody for adding readers. Only Doc Makers pay a seat. Editors and Viewers are free, with no head-count cap. For a small AU consultancy with two doc-builders and a roomful of clients or contractors who only consume, the per-month maths is unusually friendly.

AI Column earns its keep. Most "AI in the workspace" features are chat-bolted-onto-doc. AI Column is the opposite — apply an instruction once, watch it run across every row of a table. Classify hundreds of customer feedback entries. Auto-summarise inbound briefs. Generate first-draft outreach copy for each row in a lead list. This is where Coda's database DNA actually pays off, and where Notion AI still doesn't compete on the same terms.

Coda MCP is a sensible interoperability bet. Coda's official Model Context Protocol server went into public beta in April 2026. ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor can read, write and update Coda docs via a single OAuth connection. For AU teams running multiple AI clients, that's real value.

Compliance basics are covered. SOC 2 Type 2 (on request), SOC 3, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA. Competent baseline for a US-built workspace product. Not enough on its own to clear a public-sector or financial-services review in Australia — see below — but fine for general SME use.

Watch out for

Corporate context has moved twice in twelve months. Grammarly acquired Coda on 17 December 2024, then rebranded itself Superhuman on 29 October 2025. Trust documentation now lives across three vendor domains: product trust at coda.io, subprocessors and DPA at superhuman.com (via 301 redirect from the old Coda URL), compliance certifications at grammarly.com. For an AU compliance team running a vendor review, that's friction. Nothing about the product has materially broken — but the next change is one acquisition or rebrand away.

Coda Brain is the enterprise pitch and it isn't shipping. The Snowflake-powered knowledge layer the marketing pages lean on has been in limited beta since June 2024. No GA. No public pricing. Two years is a long beta, and the absence of a GA date a year after the Grammarly acquisition is conspicuous. If you're evaluating Coda specifically for Coda Brain, talk to sales and assume nothing about timing or price.

Search reliability is a live concern. The 21 May 2026 document-search incident has since resolved — the status page reads "All Systems Operational" at this update — but the search component still shows 97.51% uptime over the past 90 days, well below Coda's 99.9% Enterprise SLA. Source Search isn't a frill in a doc-database platform; it's the spine.

No specific model versions disclosed. Coda doesn't name the OpenAI, Anthropic or Azure models powering its AI on any public page. For teams running structured AI evaluations against a benchmark, that matters.

Top-up credit pricing is now published — and metered. As of mid-2026 Coda lists self-serve add-on credits: 2,000 extra credits for US$2 per Doc Maker/month, 6,000 for US$6, or unlimited for US$12. Source That clears the old "sales-call unknown," but note the shape — heavy AI Column workloads can quietly double a Pro seat's effective cost once you reach for unlimited.

Pricing

This section was rebuilt on 20 September 2026, from the Superhuman Docs plans page that coda.io/pricing now redirects to.

Pricing is USD only, with no AUD selector. AUD figures are our own conversions at 1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 20 September 2026, shown ex-GST per our GST rule — a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service, and other buyers should allow about 10% on top. Coda's GST handling for Australian buyers still isn't specifically documented on the vendor site.

Plan USD per Doc Maker / month AUD ex-GST (~1.40) What's included
Free $0 $0 Collaborative docs, connected tables, formulas, a limited Docs AI trial, Grammarly free
Pro $15 monthly / $12 annual ~A$21.00 monthly / ~A$16.80 annual Unlimited doc size, Docs AI (beta), AI trackers and views (beta), MCP, 30-day version history, custom branding, Grammarly and Superhuman Go bundled
Business $40 monthly / $33 annual ~A$56.00 monthly / ~A$46.20 annual Everything in Pro plus Databases (beta), unlimited automations and version history, private folders, doc locking, cross-doc actions, Grammarly, Go and Mail bundled
Enterprise Custom Custom SAML SSO, SCIM, AI admin controls, governance, audit events, SOC 2 Type 2 report, HIPAA

Prices read 20 September 2026 from superhuman.com/plans/docs. The tier formerly called Team is now Business. AU businesses adding their ABN in the billing Tax ID field should expect ABN-exempt treatment via the Stripe-backed checkout — verify the line-item on your first invoice.

What the old table said, and what moved. Pro was US$10 annual and US$12 monthly; it is now US$12 and US$15, a rise of 20% and 25%. The Team tier was US$30 annual and US$36 monthly; renamed Business, it is now US$33 and US$40, up 10% and 11%. Free and Enterprise did not move.

If you already pay, none of this applies to you yet. Superhuman states that existing plans, pricing and billing are unchanged, and that keeping your current Docs plan at your current price "isn't going away". Upgrading to the full Superhuman bundle is optional and opt-in. Coda Pro maps to Superhuman Pro, and Coda Team to Superhuman Business, if you take the bundle.

The AI credit system has been paused, and that is the bigger change. On 6 July 2026 Superhuman paused the Coda AI credit system and its credit packages. The 2,000 credits per Doc Maker on Pro, 6,000 on Team and 12,000 on Enterprise that made this the most generous bundle on our comparison table no longer apply. Nor do the top-ups we recorded in June — US$2 for 2,000 extra credits, US$6 for 6,000, US$12 for unlimited — which are paused, with pro-rated account credit returned for unused balances. In their place, during the Docs AI beta, paid Doc Makers get limits Superhuman describes only as "generous" and "designed to prevent abuse and protect performance, not to restrict normal use". Editors and free users get a limited trial. A new credit system is promised "in the coming months" (Superhuman Help Centre).

Value verdict: For a Coda-native AU team already subscribed, nothing has changed and the deal is still good. For a new buyer, the argument this review was built on has weakened on both sides of the ledger. The entry paid tier is 20% dearer, and the headline number — a published, countable monthly AI allowance — has been replaced by an unquantified beta limit. You cannot compare it against Notion or ClickUp on credits any more, because there is no figure to compare. The bundled Grammarly and Superhuman Go on paid tiers are real value, and they are the honest counterweight.

Australian notes

  • Available in Australia: Yes — global product, no geographic restriction.
  • Pricing in AUD: No. USD only on the vendor pricing page, with no country or currency selector. AUD figures throughout this review are our own conversions at 1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 20 September 2026, shown ex-GST.
  • GST: Not specifically documented for Australia. Coda supports a generic Tax ID field via its manage billing account help page (EU VAT is the documented example) — AU buyers can enter their ABN there. Coda's pricing and billing pages are silent on AU-specific GST handling. Australian law requires non-resident digital-service providers above the AUD$75k threshold to charge 10% GST to consumers, with ABN-registered businesses generally exempt via the reverse charge — that's the standard pattern for global SaaS, and Coda's Stripe-backed billing infrastructure should support it by default. Verify the line-item on your first AU invoice.
  • Data residency: US only, on AWS. The specific region is not published. No EU option. No Tokyo. No Sydney. No regional roadmap on the public security or trust pages. Lowest residency posture in the workspace-AI peer set — Notion at least has EU live and Tokyo+Seoul launching, Atlassian has Sydney AWS for Rovo, ClickUp offers AWS Sydney on Enterprise.
  • Compliance: SOC 2 Type 2 (on request), SOC 3, ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA. No IRAP. The parent carries additional certifications (ISO 27701, ISO 42001) but the Coda security page does not explicitly extend those to Coda product scope.
  • Local support: None local. Web and in-app support via Intercom. Enterprise advertises "priority support"; no AU-region hours stated. Contrast Anthropic, which opened Sydney in March 2026.
  • Local relevance: None advertised. No AU-aware templates, no AUD pricing, no AU office. US-English defaults throughout. Trust pages span three vendor domains, which is genuine friction for an AU compliance review. The 8 July 2026 rename to Superhuman Docs moved the pricing and help documentation onto superhuman.com, which consolidates some of that sprawl — at the cost of an Australian buyer searching "Coda pricing" landing on a differently named product.

Australian Fit: 2/5. Same penalty pattern as Notion AI, and tied with it for the lowest in the peer set.

Best for

  • Coda-native Australian small teams who want generous bundled AI without paying a separate add-on, and who don't have data-sovereignty obligations that rule out US-only hosting.
  • AU consultancies with a small core of doc-builders and a larger pool of clients or contractors who only need to read or edit — Maker Billing is unusually friendly to this shape.
  • Teams running structured-data workflows — lead lists, feedback tables, content pipelines — where AI Column applied across rows actually moves the workload.
  • Developers and BD ops folk who want to point ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor at the same Coda workspace via Coda MCP without bespoke integration work.

Not great for

  • Australian public-sector teams or anyone with data classified above OFFICIAL: Sensitive. No IRAP. No AU data residency. No prospect of either on the public roadmap.
  • Banks, super funds, healthcare or anyone needing AU APRA / OAIC-style data-handling commitments. US-only hosting on AWS is a non-starter for many of these.
  • Anyone shopping for an AI tool in isolation. Coda AI is the AI layer inside Coda. If you don't already want Coda as your workspace, buy ChatGPT or Claude direct instead.
  • Teams looking for a long-stable corporate context. Two ownership changes in twelve months is a lot, and the trust documentation fragmentation across three vendor domains is real.

Alternatives worth considering

App Why you might prefer it
Notion AI Same doc-native pattern with a much larger user base in Australia, and EU + Tokyo + Seoul data residency live or imminent. Different pricing model — AI paywalled into the Business plan, but no Maker-Billing equivalent so per-seat maths gets pricey on bigger teams.
Atlassian Rovo The right answer for AU teams that need data residency. Atlassian is Sydney-founded and headquartered, Confluence/Jira/JSM have IRAP PROTECTED, Rovo data pins to the same region as the underlying Atlassian Cloud workspace. Different product shape — wins on AU fit, loses on doc-database flexibility.
ClickUp Brain Workspace-native AI inside ClickUp with AWS Sydney data residency on Enterprise (no extra cost) and a more aggressive AI roadmap. Pricier per seat for similar AI scope.

Our verdict

Coda AI was the cheapest workspace-AI bundle on this list, and on the bundle maths it wasn't close. That argument has softened. Pro is now roughly A$16.80 a Doc Maker a month ex-GST rather than A$14.00, and the credit allowances that made the case — 2,000 on Pro, 12,000 on Enterprise — were paused on 6 July 2026 in favour of an unquantified beta limit. Editors and Viewers are still free under Maker Billing. AI Column is still genuinely useful for structured-data work in a way Notion AI doesn't match, Coda MCP is still a sensible interoperability bet, and paid tiers now bundle Grammarly and Superhuman Go.

But the Australian lens is harsh. USD-only pricing. GST handling not specifically documented for Australia (Tax ID field exists; verify the line-item on your first invoice). US-only data hosting with no EU, no Tokyo, no Sydney even on the roadmap. No IRAP. The parent has rebranded twice, and has now renamed the product itself to Superhuman Docs. Coda Brain — the enterprise pitch that would justify the residency story to a serious AU buyer — has been in limited beta for two years with no GA date.

Recommended for AU teams already using Coda. Turn the AI on; it costs nothing extra to try, and Maker Billing scales painlessly across read-heavy teams. Skip if you're choosing an AI tool in isolation — buy ChatGPT or Claude direct. Skip if you have AU data-sovereignty obligations — Atlassian Rovo is the closer match.

15 out of 25. Good — with specific reservations, and carried from May 2026 pending a re-score. The 20% rise on Pro and the withdrawal of the credit allowances both bear directly on the 5/5 we gave Value for Money.

Scores

Criterion Score Why
Value for Money 5/5 Carried, not defended — Pro rose 20% and the credit allowances were paused on 6 July 2026. Flagged for re-rating
Ease of Use 3/5 AI Chat and Assistant are straightforward, but Coda's doc-database model has a learning curve that competitors like Notion don't impose
Feature Depth 3/5 AI Column at scale is genuinely useful; Coda Brain is the headline enterprise feature and remains in limited beta with no GA date
Australian Fit 2/5 No AUD pricing, no AU data residency, no IRAP, GST not specifically documented for Australia (generic Tax ID field only), trust documentation across three vendor domains
Reliability & Support 2/5 97.51% search-component uptime over 90 days is below the stated 99.9% Enterprise SLA (the 21 May search incident has since resolved), and there's no AU support
Total 15/25 ⭐⭐⭐ Good — carried from May 2026 and due a re-score

Frequently asked questions

Is Coda AI available in Australia?

Yes — it's a global product with no geographic restriction, now sold as Superhuman Docs. But there's no Australian office, no AU-aware templates, and US-English defaults throughout. Local support runs through web and in-app channels only.

Does Coda AI charge in AUD?

No. Pricing is USD only with no currency selector. As at 20 September 2026 Pro is US$12 per Doc Maker per month on annual billing, roughly A$16.80 ex-GST, up from US$10 (about A$14.00). GST isn't specifically documented for Australia; you can enter your ABN in a generic Tax ID field. Verify on your first invoice.

Is there a free plan or free trial?

Yes. The Free plan includes collaborative docs and a limited Docs AI trial. Crucially, Maker Billing still applies — only Doc Makers pay; Editors and Viewers are free with no head-count cap. Note that the Coda AI credit system was paused on 6 July 2026, so the old starter credit pool no longer works the way this review first described.

Does Coda store data in Australia?

No. Hosting is US-only on AWS, with no EU, Tokyo or Sydney option even on the roadmap — the lowest residency posture in its peer set. There's no IRAP, ruling it out for AU public-sector and regulated work.

Is Coda AI worth it?

If Coda is already your workspace, yes — existing subscribers keep their current plan and price, and AI Column is genuinely useful for structured data. For a new buyer the case is weaker than it was: Pro rose 20% and the published AI credit allowances were paused in July 2026. If you're shopping for AI in isolation, buy ChatGPT or Claude direct instead.
