Spinach Review: AI Meeting Assistant for Teams

The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictVerdict (TL;DR): Spinach does one thing well — it turns your meetings into structured notes, action items, and tickets with minimal setup. The free plan is generous, the integrations are strong, and agile teams will find it genuinely useful. But it is a US-based product with no stated Australian data residency, pricing in USD only, and a bot that joins your calls visibly. For Australians who need deep project management integration from their meeting tool, it earns a look. For those with data sovereignty concerns, Tactiq or Jamie are better choices.

What Spinach is
Spinach (spinach.ai) is an AI meeting assistant built by StayIn, Inc., a US company headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. It was founded in 2021 by Yoav Grossman, Matan Talmi, and Josh Willis, and passed through Y Combinator.
The product joins your Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or Webex call as a bot participant, records the conversation, and delivers a structured summary, action items, and agenda updates after the call. What sets Spinach apart from simpler notetakers is its depth of integration with project management tools: it can create Jira tickets, update Asana tasks, push to Linear, and feed CRMs including HubSpot and Salesforce — all from the meeting summary.
Spinach supports 100 languages, is SOC 2 Type 2 certified (audited by EY), GDPR compliant, and HIPAA compliant. It does not use your data to train AI models and enforces zero data retention requirements on its AI subprocessors.
Setup is as simple as inviting scrum@spinach.io to your calendar event. The bot joins automatically when the meeting starts.
What it costs in Australia
Spinach prices in USD. There is no AUD pricing page. GST treatment is not stated on the pricing page — Australian business purchasers should confirm with the vendor directly.
| Plan | USD price | AUD approx (×1.40) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Free | Free | Up to 100 meetings/month; 7-day recording retention; 1-hour meeting max; basic AI summary |
| Pro | USD $2.90/meeting hour | ~AUD $4.06/meeting hour | Pay-as-you-go; unlimited users; advanced AI; CRM + PM integrations; 1-year history |
| Business | USD $19/user/month (annual) / USD $29/user/month (monthly) | ~AUD $26.60/user/month (annual) / ~AUD $40.60 (monthly) | Unlimited meetings; 3-hour max per meeting; 2 concurrent meetings |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | SAML SSO, SCIM, custom data retention, admin reporting, BAA |
AUD conversions approximate at 1 USD = 1.40 AUD as of September 2026. GST (10%) not confirmed by vendor — (unconfirmed). Treat AUD figures as pre-GST estimates. Exchange rate not locked by vendor.
The Pro plan's per-meeting-hour model is unusual and can be cost-effective for occasional users, but expensive for teams that meet heavily. A team running 40 hours of meetings per month would pay roughly AUD $180/month on Pro — comparable to three Business plan seats. Do the maths before choosing a plan.
How it works in practice
Sign in with Google or Microsoft, connect your calendar, and invite scrum@spinach.io to your meetings. No desktop app is required — Spinach is entirely browser and calendar-driven.
During the call, Spinach listens and tracks discussion points, decisions, and action items. After the meeting, it delivers a structured summary to your inbox and to whatever tools you have connected: Slack channel, Notion page, Confluence doc, Jira board, HubSpot record.
The CRM and project management integrations are the product's clearest differentiator. A sales team can finish a customer call and find the CRM updated with call notes and next steps. A product team can end sprint planning and find new Jira tickets already created. For teams already living in these tools, that workflow saves real time.
What it does well
Deep project management integration. Spinach connects with Jira, Asana, Linear, ClickUp, Monday, Trello, Notion, Confluence, and Google Docs. Most competing notetakers treat PM tools as optional extras. Spinach treats them as the point.
Generous free plan. Up to 100 meetings per month is unusually good for a free tier. Many competitors cap free usage at 5–10 meetings or add a lifetime ceiling.
Structured action item tracking. Action items are assignable and pushed into your tools — not just buried in a paragraph of text.
Strong security posture. SOC 2 Type 2 (audited by EY), GDPR, and HIPAA compliance, with a stated zero-training policy on your data.
Multi-platform support. Works across Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Webex from the same account.
100 languages. Useful for Australian teams with multilingual colleagues or global clients.
What it doesn't do well
No bot-free option. Spinach joins your meeting as a visible bot participant. Other attendees see it in the call. This can be awkward in sensitive discussions, client calls, or interviews. Jamie and Bluedot are better options if invisible capture matters.
No Australian data residency. Spinach hosts infrastructure in the United States. There is no Australian or APAC data centre option and no stated path to keeping Australian data onshore.
Short retention on the free plan. The 7-day recording retention on Starter is limited. If you need to refer back to a meeting from two weeks ago, you need a paid plan.
USD pricing only. Currency risk sits entirely with the buyer. Your monthly cost in AUD fluctuates with the exchange rate.
Pro plan pricing requires careful maths. The per-meeting-hour model is flexible but can become expensive fast for teams with full meeting schedules.
3-hour meeting cap on Business. Long workshops or full-day sessions need Enterprise pricing.
Australian fit
Spinach is a functional product, but it was built for the US market.
- Pricing: USD only. No AUD native pricing. Currency risk is yours.
- Data residency: US-hosted. No AU or APAC server option stated on the security or pricing page.
- GST: Not addressed on the pricing page — (unconfirmed). Confirm treatment with vendor.
- Support: US-based team. No stated Australian-hours coverage.
- AU-specific features: None. The product is market-agnostic.
Australian teams in regulated sectors — health, government, legal, financial services — should review their data handling obligations before using a US-hosted product. SOC 2 and GDPR compliance are credible signals but do not substitute for Australian Privacy Act compliance or sector-specific requirements.
For a general small business team that wants better meeting notes with strong workflow integrations, US hosting is manageable. For enterprise or regulated organisations, ask the vendor directly about data processing agreements and subprocessor locations.
Recording consent: Australian state laws vary on recording conversations. In most contexts, one-party consent is sufficient, but in some situations all-party consent is required. The bot's visible presence can serve as implicit notice to participants, but you are responsible for understanding and meeting your own obligations. This is not legal advice.
Alternatives
- Fireflies AI — bot-based notetaker with a good free tier; broader meeting intelligence features; also US-hosted
- Fathom — generous free plan with no lifetime meeting cap; cleaner UX for simpler use cases; also US-hosted
- Granola — bot-free Mac app; privacy-friendly; narrower integration set
For bot-free recording and EU data hosting, see the Jamie and Bluedot reviews in this category.
Bottom line
Spinach earns its score because the PM and CRM integrations are genuinely strong, the free plan is unusually generous, and setup takes under five minutes. The reason to choose it over alternatives is the workflow integration — if you live in Jira or HubSpot, Spinach saves real work.
The reason to look elsewhere: US data hosting, USD-only pricing, a visible bot that some participants find intrusive, and nothing specifically built for the Australian market.
Test it on the free plan first — 100 meetings per month gives you enough runway to know whether the integrations deliver what you need before committing to a paid tier.
Score
| Criterion | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Value for Money | 3/5 | Free plan is unusually generous; paid plans are USD-only with currency risk |
| Ease of Use | 4/5 | Calendar-invite setup is dead simple; bot joins automatically; clean summary delivery |
| Feature Depth | 4/5 | Best-in-class PM + CRM integrations; structured action items; 100 languages; solid enterprise controls |
| Australian Fit | 2/5 | US-hosted; USD pricing only; no AU data residency; no AU support hours; GST unconfirmed |
| Reliability & Support | 2/5 | SOC 2 Type 2; GDPR + HIPAA compliant; but US-hours support and no AU-specific help |
| Total | 15/25 | ⭐⭐⭐ Good |
Australian Fit gate: Australian Fit 2/5 — does not qualify for ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent or category Top Pick.
Update history
- 9 Oct 2026 — Re-checked for the AUD-claim queue (#469), spinach.ai/pricing read in a browser on an Australian connection: the URL now renders the marketing home content with no plan cards and no figure in any currency, so the Pro per-meeting-hour rate and the Business per-user prices above could not be re-verified from a live vendor page and no claims were re-verified this pass.
