The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictPricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).
Verdict (TL;DR): Read AI does what every meeting notetaker does — joins your call, transcribes it, writes a summary and action items — and then does something most don't: it generates engagement and sentiment analytics, scoring how the room responded, who spoke, and how attentive people were, then ties it together with search across your meetings, emails and messages. For a manager or sales leader who wants to understand interactions, not just record them, that's genuinely useful. It's also where the caution sits: scoring people's engagement and sentiment is a different privacy proposition from transcribing words, and under Australian law it deserves a careful think before you switch it on for staff or clients. Add USD-only billing, US hosting and no Australian data residency, and it's a capable tool with real questions attached. Score: 15/25 — Good.

What Read AI is
Read AI is a meeting assistant that goes beyond notes into analytics. Like its rivals, it joins your Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams calls, transcribes them, and produces an AI summary with action items and key moments. What sets it apart is the second layer: it generates engagement metrics — sentiment, talk-time balance, attentiveness and an overall "engagement score" — and surfaces them per meeting and over time. It then extends across your workday with an enterprise search that pulls answers from your meetings, emails and messages in one place, and a "Chief Meeting Officer" style suite of dashboards summarising your interactions.
The company is based in Seattle, founded in 2021 by CEO David Shim (previously a location-analytics founder) with co-founders Robert Williams and Elliott Waldron. It's a well-funded, fast-growing player in a crowded category, and Shim has been a visible figure in it. In the Australian market Read AI competes with the notetakers we've reviewed — Fireflies, Granola, Otter and Fathom — and with Zoom AI Companion for anyone already inside Zoom. Its differentiator is the analytics; the question is whether you want them.
What it costs in Australia
Read AI bills in US dollars with no AUD pricing and no documented GST line. There's a genuinely usable free tier. The AUD figures below are conversions at about 1.40 plus a 10% GST conversion — not prices Read AI quotes.
| Plan | USD/mo (annual) | Approx AUD/mo (ex-GST, ~1.40) | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 5 meetings/month, AI summaries, transcription, notes, enterprise search |
| Pro | US$15/user | ~A$21 | Unlimited transcripts, more upload credits, priority processing |
| Enterprise | US$22.50/user | ~A$32 | Video playback and highlights, 200 upload credits a month, premium support |
| Enterprise+ | US$29.75/user | ~A$42 | HIPAA, SAML and SCIM, custom retention; requires 5+ licences |
The free tier is real — five meetings a month with full summaries and transcription is enough to evaluate the tool properly, and even to run a light meeting load for free. Pro at US$15/user/month (annual) is competitive with the category. As an offshore digital supplier, GST should apply under the imported-services rules, but Read AI doesn't document it, so confirm at checkout if you're claiming an input-tax credit.
How it works in practice
You connect your calendar, and Read AI's notetaker joins your video calls automatically. After each meeting you get the familiar package — transcript, summary, action items — plus the analytics: a sentiment read on the conversation, talk-time breakdown, an engagement score, and highlights. Over weeks, those roll up into dashboards: how your meetings trend, where time goes, which interactions landed. The enterprise search then lets you ask plain-language questions across everything it has seen — "what did the client say about timing?" — and pull the answer from a meeting, an email or a chat.
For a sales leader, a manager or anyone who runs a lot of calls, the analytics are the draw. Knowing that a prospect's engagement dropped in the second half of a demo, or that you talked for 80% of a discovery call, is the kind of feedback you can act on. The enterprise search is the other genuinely useful piece — it turns a pile of meetings into something you can interrogate.
But the same feature that makes Read AI distinctive is the one to think hardest about. Scoring people — their sentiment, attentiveness and engagement — is materially different from transcribing what they said, and in an Australian workplace or client setting it raises real questions about consent, surveillance and how that data could be used in a performance or employment context. That's not a reason to avoid it, but it is a reason to set clear policies before you point it at staff or customers.
What it does well
- Engagement and sentiment analytics no plain notetaker offers — useful feedback for sales, management and meeting-heavy roles.
- Cross-platform and automatic. Joins Zoom, Meet and Teams from your calendar with no fuss.
- Enterprise search across meetings, emails and messages. Ask a question, get an answer pulled from your own interactions.
- A genuinely usable free tier — five meetings a month with full summaries and transcription.
- Solid core notes. The transcription, summaries and action items are competitive with the category.
What it doesn't do well
- The people-analytics cut both ways. Sentiment and engagement scoring of participants raises consent and privacy questions that are sharper under Australian law than simple transcription.
- USD-only, US-hosted. No AUD pricing, no documented GST line, no Australian data residency, no local support.
- Consent management is on you. As with any notetaker, you must manage recording consent — and here, the analytics raise the bar.
- Best features sit higher up. Video playback and highlights are gated to Enterprise and above.
- Crowded category. For pure notes, cheaper or more privacy-minded rivals do the core job as well.
Australian fit
Read AI scores poorly here, and the analytics make the data question more pointed than usual. Billing is in US dollars with no AUD option and no documented GST line. The company is US-based (Seattle) with no published Australian data-residency region, so your transcripts, summaries and the engagement data derived from your meetings are processed offshore. That matters more for Read AI than for a plain notetaker, because it isn't just storing what was said — it's storing inferences about how people behaved. Under the Privacy Act, and in any employment context, that's sensitive territory: get clear internal consent and a usage policy before deploying it, and think carefully before applying engagement scores to staff. Support is US-based with no AU hours. The tool is capable; the governance is the work.
Alternatives
- Zoom AI Companion — consider this if you're on Zoom and want included, agentic notes with genuine Australian data residency and no people-scoring.
- Granola — consider this for a no-bot, no-stored-audio notetaker focused on clean notes rather than analytics.
- Fireflies — consider this for cheap, cross-platform transcription if you don't need the engagement metrics.
Bottom line
Read AI is the notetaker for people who want to understand their meetings, not just record them. The engagement and sentiment analytics, and the search across meetings, emails and messages, are a real step beyond a transcript, and for a sales or management role that runs on calls, they're genuinely actionable. The free tier makes it easy to try.
It lands at 15/25 because the thing that makes it interesting also makes it the one to deploy most carefully. Scoring how people behaved in a meeting is sensitive data, processed offshore, with the usual USD billing and no Australian residency — a combination that asks for a consent policy and a clear-eyed look at how the analytics will be used before you roll it out, especially to staff. As a personal productivity tool for your own calls it's powerful; as a workplace surveillance-adjacent system it needs governance. Treat it accordingly, and it earns its place.

read.ai/plans-pricingon an Australian connection, every price labelled "USD. Per user / month when billed annually": Free, Pro US$15, Enterprise US$22.50 and Enterprise+ US$29.75 (5+ licences). The table had Enterprise at US$29.75 and Enterprise+ at US$39.75 — one step out. Table corrected. The Monthly toggle did not change the displayed figures, so month-to-month rates were not read.aud_native: falsealready set. Score unchanged. Capture:Dossiers/captures/read-ai-pricing-2026-09-30.txt; Wayback 30 Sep 2026. - 24 Sep 2026 — The AUD column was never grossed up for GST, and every word around it said it was. The header read “gross-up; GST unconfirmed” and the note beneath described a 10% uplift — while the figures themselves are plain conversions at 1.4045. Checked before changing a word: across the 63 files carrying this wording, 141 rows convert at 1.4045 and none at 1.4045 × 1.10. No figure changed here; only the description of them did. Two things were wrong beyond the arithmetic: gross-up names a tax uplift and was being used for a currency conversion, and GST unconfirmed is stale — our GST rule settled it on 5 September 2026, and a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service. No USD price moved and no score changed.

Frequently asked questions
What makes Read AI different from other meeting notetakers?
Beyond transcripts and summaries, Read AI generates engagement and sentiment analytics — talk-time, attentiveness and an engagement score — and offers search across your meetings, emails and messages. The analytics are the differentiator and the main privacy consideration.
Is Read AI a privacy concern in Australia?
It warrants care. Scoring people's sentiment and engagement is more sensitive than transcription, it's processed offshore with no Australian data residency, and applying it to staff raises consent and employment questions under the Privacy Act. Set a clear consent and usage policy before deploying it.
Does Read AI have a free plan?
Yes. The free plan covers 5 meetings per month with full AI summaries, transcription, notes and enterprise search. Paid Pro is about US$15/user/month billed annually, with higher tiers at Enterprise. Pricing is USD only with no documented GST line.
