Eucalyptus Review: Australia's Digital Health Group (Juniper, Pilot, Software)
The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictVerdict (TL;DR): Eucalyptus is an Australian digital health company that operates three distinct consumer health brands in Australia: Juniper (women's weight loss and menopause), Pilot (men's health — erectile dysfunction, hair loss, weight loss), and Software (prescription skincare). All three use AI-assisted care models — AI tools for intake, clinical decision support, and patient communication — supervised by AHPRA-registered practitioners. The model has genuinely expanded access to clinical-grade treatment for conditions that are chronically underserved in Australia's bricks-and-mortar health system. It also carries real risks: GLP-1 medications prescribed through Juniper carry clinical risks that require proper medical supervision; the prescribing model has attracted regulatory scrutiny; and the June 2026 acquisition by US company Hims & Hers Health introduces ownership change that Australian patients should be aware of. The brands remain operational in Australia; the question of what changes under US ownership is worth watching.
Score: 17/25 — ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good
Eucalyptus's brands provide clinician-supervised treatment, not unsupervised AI health advice. They do not replace ongoing care from a regular GP. GLP-1 weight loss medications carry real clinical risks — including aspiration risks under general anaesthesia — and should be discussed with your prescribing practitioner and any other treating doctors. Always disclose all medications to healthcare providers. Last reviewed: 26 June 2026 by Adam.
What Eucalyptus is
Eucalyptus Health was founded in Sydney in 2019 by Tim Doyle, Charlie Gearside, Alexey Mitko, and James Weiss. The company operates a portfolio of vertically integrated digital health brands, each targeting a specific clinical area and demographic. In Australia, the three active consumer brands are:
Juniper — women's health, focused on weight loss and menopause management. Juniper is best known for its GLP-1 receptor agonist programs, which prescribe medications like semaglutide for weight management, combined with health coaching and clinical oversight.
Pilot — men's health, covering erectile dysfunction (ED), premature ejaculation (PE), hair loss (male pattern baldness), weight loss, and mental health. Pilot connects patients with AHPRA-registered doctors online and delivers treatments to their door.
Software — prescription skincare for acne, pigmentation, redness, and ageing. Software clinicians prescribe customised topical formulations — including tretinoin, azelaic acid, and other prescription-grade ingredients — based on an online consultation and skin assessment.
A fourth brand, Kin (reproductive health), also operates under the Eucalyptus group.
Acquisition update — June 2026: Hims & Hers Health, Inc. (NYSE: HIMS) completed its acquisition of Eucalyptus on 2 June 2026 for up to US$1.15 billion (approximately AU$1.6 billion at current exchange rates). Eucalyptus is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Hims & Hers. The Australian brands continue to operate. Clinical services in Australia remain subject to Australian regulation (AHPRA, TGA, Privacy Act). The longer-term implications for pricing, data handling, and service scope under US ownership remain to be seen. [NOTE: This review was written shortly after acquisition completion — monitor for changes.]
What it costs in Australia
Juniper (women's weight loss): - GLP-1 treatment programs start from approximately AUD $349/month for Treatment A tier - Higher-tier programs (Treatment B) from approximately AUD $499/month - Multi-month commitment plans (3, 6, or 12 months) reduce monthly costs by up to $100/month, paid upfront - Pricing confirmed via third-party sources. (verify current pricing at myjuniper.com.)
Pilot (men's health): - Initial practitioner medical appointment: AUD $20 one-off fee (refunded if not suitable) - Hair loss treatment: varies by product; promotional pricing of $50 off first order over $80 is active at time of writing - Weight loss program: from approximately AUD $349/month; bulk program from AUD $199/month on 12-month commitment - ED treatment: per-treatment pricing varies; confirm at pilot.com.au - (verify current pricing at pilot.com.au)
Software (prescription skincare): - Consultation and initial formulation: approximately AUD $108 for the customised formulation - Subscription renewal for ongoing treatment supply: approximately AUD $88 per two-month supply (pricing has changed over time; verify at skin.software)
All pricing is in AUD. Eucalyptus brands do not bulk-bill through Medicare. These are private-pay services.
How it works in practice
The Eucalyptus model is consistent across brands: an online clinical pathway replaces the traditional in-person GP visit for specific, well-defined conditions.
A patient completes an intake questionnaire — symptom history, medical history, medications, contraindications. The AI-assisted intake routes the information to an AHPRA-registered practitioner. The practitioner reviews the case, conducts a consultation (video, phone, or asynchronous depending on the brand), and if appropriate, prescribes treatment. Medications are dispensed from Australian pharmacies and delivered.
The AI layer is more sophisticated than a simple intake form. In 2025, Eucalyptus began deploying AI health agents developed in partnership with Amigo — a partnership designed to automate routine clinical task coordination and provide patients with round-the-clock AI-assisted support between practitioner consultations. These AI agents handle patient queries, medication reminders, adherence tracking, and escalation to clinical staff when needed. They are not autonomous prescribers.
The clinical model is: AI handles coordination and routine support; AHPRA-registered practitioners handle prescribing and clinical decision-making.
What it does well
Expanded access to underserved care. ED, hair loss, weight management, prescription skincare — these are clinical areas where Australian men and women historically had to navigate either stigmatised in-person GP conversations or expensive specialist referrals. Eucalyptus brands have genuinely democratised access to clinician-supervised treatment for conditions that affect quality of life significantly.
AHPRA supervision throughout. Prescriptions come from AHPRA-registered practitioners. Eucalyptus is not an AI-only prescribing service. Clinical decisions require human clinical judgement.
ACHS accreditation. Eucalyptus is the first telehealth company in Australia to achieve accreditation from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) against EQuIP6 standards. This is a meaningful quality marker — it reflects that Eucalyptus has submitted to independent clinical governance assessment against national standards. Most comparable services have not.
Australian pharmacies. Medications dispensed through Eucalyptus brands are fulfilled by Australian pharmacies, not imported or grey-market suppliers. This matters for medication safety and regulatory compliance.
Patient safety page. Eucalyptus maintains a dedicated patient safety page (eucalyptus.health/patient-safety) and has implemented clinical governance structures including a clinical advisory committee. These are signals of institutional commitment to safety that consumer telehealth services often lack.
AUD pricing, Australian service. Despite the Hims & Hers acquisition, the Australian brands price and operate in AUD. Australian patients are not redirected to US pricing or US regulatory frameworks.
What it doesn't do well
GLP-1 medications carry real clinical risks — these must not be minimised. Juniper's weight loss programs prescribe GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide, tirzepatide, and similar medications). In June 2025, the TGA issued class-wide safety warnings for all GLP-1 and dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists regarding aspiration risks under general anaesthesia. Patients using these medications must disclose them to any anaesthetist or surgeon before any procedure. Other risks — nausea, vomiting, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, thyroid concerns — are well-documented. These are serious medications, prescribed appropriately by clinicians, but they are not appropriate for everyone. The online intake model, while clinician-supervised, operates at scale and at speed. This is an inherent tension that patients must understand.
AHPRA has taken action against individual practitioners. AHPRA confirmed in 2025 that it had taken disciplinary action against individual practitioners for inappropriate prescribing of GLP-1 medications, including practitioners associated with online telehealth services. This is not an allegation directed specifically at Eucalyptus, but it contextualises the regulatory environment around this category.
Not a replacement for a regular GP. Eucalyptus brands treat specific conditions within a defined clinical pathway. They do not manage complex comorbidities, do not have your full medical history, and are not designed to be your primary healthcare relationship. Patients with complex medical situations need a regular GP.
The Hims & Hers acquisition introduces uncertainty. Eucalyptus is now a subsidiary of a US-listed company. Questions worth monitoring: Will pricing change? Will Australian patient data remain in Australian systems? Will clinical governance standards and ACHS accreditation be maintained? At time of writing (June 2026), no material changes have been announced. But the change of ownership is real and patients should watch for communications from the brands about any operational changes.
Data privacy under new ownership — flag. Under Eucalyptus's original structure, patient health data was subject to Australian privacy law and the Australian Privacy Principles. Under Hims & Hers ownership, the application of US data law alongside Australian obligations is a legitimate question. Patients should review the updated privacy policies of each brand. (the implications of the Hims & Hers acquisition for Australian data handling are not yet documented in publicly available materials.)
Subscription model can be difficult to exit. Eucalyptus brands, particularly Juniper, use multi-month upfront payment structures. While refund policies exist, patients should understand the commitment before starting a program.
AI health agents — no independent clinical validation published. The Amigo AI health agents deployed in Eucalyptus's clinical pathway have not, to our knowledge, been independently validated for accuracy or clinical safety in the Australian context. (request clinical evidence from vendor.) They are explicitly a coordination and support layer, not autonomous clinical tools, but patients should be aware that AI is active in the care pathway.
Australian fit — TGA, AHPRA, health data, and clinical safety
AHPRA: All prescribing practitioners are AHPRA-registered. Clinical decisions are made by qualified, regulated practitioners. This is the appropriate structure for a medical prescribing service.
TGA: Medications dispensed through Eucalyptus brands are TGA-approved therapeutic goods, dispensed by licensed Australian pharmacies. The TGA issued safety warnings in June 2025 regarding GLP-1 medications — including those prescribed through Juniper — about aspiration risk under anaesthesia. These warnings apply to the drug class, not specifically to Eucalyptus's prescribing practice, but patients using Juniper's weight loss programs should ensure their broader medical team is informed.
ACHS accreditation: Eucalyptus is the first Australian telehealth company to achieve ACHS EQuIP6 accreditation. This is a genuine Australian-specific quality credential.
Privacy Act: Australian patient health data is subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Under Hims & Hers ownership, confirm that AU data remains subject to AU law and is stored in Australian infrastructure. (contact Eucalyptus/Hims & Hers for current data residency commitments post-acquisition.)
My Health Record: Eucalyptus brands do not appear to integrate with My Health Record. (confirm with vendor.) Treatment records and prescriptions from Eucalyptus brands may not automatically appear in a patient's My Health Record.
No Medicare: All Eucalyptus brands are private-pay services. No Medicare bulk billing.
Alternatives
- Coviu (review) — not a consumer clinical service, but the infrastructure platform used by GPs and allied health for telehealth. Relevant if your own GP offers telehealth.
- Updoc (review) — general-purpose telehealth for scripts, certificates, and referrals. Not condition-specific, but offers 24/7 AHPRA-registered doctor access.
- Heidi Health (review) — not directly comparable (it's a clinical documentation tool), but relevant for the broader conversation about AI in Australian healthcare.
For specific condition alternatives: Qr8 MediSkin and other prescription skincare platforms compete with Software; various GP clinics and specialists offer GLP-1 programs in competition with Juniper; and numerous men's health platforms compete with Pilot.
Bottom line
Eucalyptus, through Juniper, Pilot, and Software, has built something genuinely valuable: accessible, clinician-supervised, AI-assisted care for conditions that Australian patients have historically struggled to access conveniently. The ACHS accreditation and AHPRA-supervised prescribing model set a higher clinical governance bar than most comparable services.
The risks are also real. GLP-1 medications are serious clinical tools with genuine contraindications. The Hims & Hers acquisition introduces ownership uncertainty. Data privacy questions post-acquisition have not been publicly resolved. And these services do not — and should not — replace the relationship with a regular GP for comprehensive care.
At 17/25, Eucalyptus sits solidly in Very Good territory. Its Australian Fit score of 4/5 reflects genuine local credentials (ACHS accreditation, AHPRA oversight, AUD pricing, Australian pharmacies) offset by the unresolved post-acquisition data privacy picture and Medicare ineligibility.
If you are considering one of these brands for a specific condition, the most important step is to read the clinical guidance carefully, disclose all medications and medical history to the prescribing practitioner, and keep your regular GP informed. These platforms work best as a complement to ongoing primary care, not a replacement.
