Krisp vs Cleanvoice (2026): Live-Call Noise vs Podcast Cleanup, for Australians

By Adam · 30 Jun 2026 · 8 min read
Head-to-head verdict

No single winner. The right choice depends on the job; the verdict below says who should buy which.

Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).

The verdict in one line: These tools both clean up audio, but never the same audio. Krisp scrubs noise out of your live calls in real time. Cleanvoice strips filler words and dead air out of a recorded file after the fact. If you live on back-to-back Zoom and Teams calls from a noisy home office, buy Krisp. If you edit a podcast every week and dread the cleanup, buy Cleanvoice. Most people need one, not both — and the right answer is decided by when the audio problem happens, not by which tool scores higher.

Two tools. Both promise cleaner audio. Both score four stars in our reviews. And yet putting them head-to-head is almost unfair, because they solve problems at opposite ends of the same workflow.

Krisp works in the moment. It sits between your microphone and your calling app and removes background noise while you talk — the dog, the traffic, the kid in the next room — so the people on your Zoom call hear a clean voice. It also takes meeting notes.

Cleanvoice works after the fact. You finish recording, upload the file, and it strips out the "ums", the lip smacks, the stutters and the long silent pauses — the tedious cleanup a podcast editor would otherwise do by hand.

So the real question is not "which is better." It is "which problem is yours?" This piece settles that for the typical Australian buyer.

We have reviewed both already. Krisp scored 18/25 (⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good). Cleanvoice scored 17/25 (⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good). We are not re-scoring here — we are deciding who buys which.

The one distinction that decides it

Read this before the pricing tables. It is the whole article.

  • Krisp is real-time. It cleans audio as it happens, on a live call. There is nothing to edit afterwards. You turn it on once and forget it.
  • Cleanvoice is post-production. It cleans audio after you have recorded it. It does nothing on a live call. You upload a finished file and download a tidied one.

If your audio pain is "I sound unprofessional on calls," that is a live problem. Krisp.

If your audio pain is "editing my podcast takes hours," that is a post-production problem. Cleanvoice.

Neither tool does the other's job. Krisp will not remove filler words from a recorded episode. Cleanvoice will not clean a live Teams call. That is the comparison, settled. The rest is detail.

What it costs in Australia (AUD)

Both vendors bill overseas in US dollars. Neither offers AUD pricing or a clean Australian GST invoice line. Conversions below use the AID rate of US$1 ≈ A$1.40. Treat them as the real landed cost, not a quote — confirm the tax line on your own invoice.

Krisp

Krisp bills in USD via a US entity. No AUD plan, no GST line. The annual prices below are roughly half the month-to-month rate — pay monthly and you pay double.

Plan Price (USD, billed annually) Approx AUD/mo For
Free US$0 (7-day full trial, then limited) A$0 Trying it
Core US$8/user/mo ~A$11/mo Solo professionals, small teams
Advanced US$15/user/mo ~A$21/mo Teams needing CRM integrations + admin
Enterprise Custom — SSO, on-device recording, HIPAA

Cleanvoice

Cleanvoice bills in USD or EUR through Paddle as merchant of record. Its pricing page lists prices without tax and says sales tax or VAT "may be charged, depending on where you live" — it does not confirm how Australian GST is handled. The AUD figures are a conversion, not a GST-inclusive quote.

Plan List price (USD) Hours/mo Approx AUD/mo (ex-GST)
Free trial US$0 30 mins (one-off) A$0
Subscription (10 hrs) US$11/mo 10 hours ~A$15/mo
Subscription (30 hrs) US$30/mo 30 hours ~A$42/mo
Subscription (100 hrs) US$90/mo 100 hours ~A$126/mo
Pay-as-you-go US$11 (5 hrs) to US$45 (30 hrs) credits valid 2 years ~A$15 to ~A$63

On price, they are closer than they look. A solo professional pays ~A$11/mo for Krisp's Core plan; a solo podcaster pays ~A$15/mo for Cleanvoice's 10-hour plan. The cost is not the deciding factor. The job is.

Feature diff

The columns barely overlap. That is the point.

Krisp Cleanvoice
Core job Real-time noise cancellation on live calls Post-production cleanup of recorded files
When it runs During the call, live After recording, on upload
Removes Background noise, echo, other voices (live) Filler words, mouth sounds, stutters, dead air
Filler-word removal No Yes — its core feature
Live-call use Yes — its core feature No
Notes / transcription AI meeting notes, on-device English transcription Transcription, show notes, chapters
Works with Any calling app (Zoom, Teams, Meet, Webex) Upload a file; exports to Audacity, Audition, Reaper
Platform Desktop app (Windows, Mac) + web Web only
Editing control Set and forget Per-edit review list before export

Two features deserve a closer look, because they are where each tool quietly earns its keep.

Krisp's "no bot in the room." Krisp works at the audio level, so nothing joins your meeting as a visible participant. For a sensitive client or HR call, "there is no third attendee" is easier to explain than asking everyone to ignore a notetaker bot. Its on-device English transcription — the audio never leaves your laptop to be transcribed — is a real privacy edge most rivals lack.

Cleanvoice's per-edit review list. AI filler-removal occasionally clips a word you meant to keep, especially on fast or accented Australian speech. Cleanvoice lists every proposed cut so you can reject it before exporting. That review step is the difference between a tidy episode and a chopped one. It also means you cannot fully set-and-forget — plan to scan the list.

Australian fit

Here is the uncomfortable shared truth: neither tool is built for Australians. Both scored 2/5 on Australian Fit in our reviews. Under our Methodology and the Australian Fit gate, a score below 4/5 caps the displayed rating at four stars and rules either tool out as a category Top Pick — regardless of raw points. Both are recommended; neither wins its category outright.

Krisp Cleanvoice
AUD billing No — USD only, US entity No — USD/EUR via Paddle
GST invoice line None Unclear ("may be charged")
Data residency US-centred cloud for stored notes/recordings; on-device English transcription is the saving grace EU-anchored (Hetzner Germany, Bunny Slovenia); DPA permits non-EEA transfers; some US sub-processors
AU support Online only, US timezone Email only, EU business hours
AU data option None below Enterprise None

On data residency the two diverge in an interesting way. Krisp's stored notes and recordings sit in a US-centred cloud, but its on-device English transcription means live English calls are transcribed without the audio leaving your machine — a genuine privacy point. Cleanvoice anchors its core processing in the EU and names its sub-processors openly in its Data Processing Agreement, committing to delete all copies within 14 business days of cessation — more transparent than tools that ship audio to undisclosed servers, though parts of its stack still reach US providers.

Neither offers Australian data residency. For everyday calls or podcast audio, that is low-risk. If you handle commercially sensitive or personal-information-heavy material under the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles, note it and disclose it to clients.

A note on recording and consent: Recording a conversation can carry legal obligations that vary by state in Australia. Before you record calls, make sure you have the consent you need. This is general information, not legal advice — check your obligations for your state and situation.

Who buys which

This is the entire decision, in plain terms.

Buy Krisp if you are a live-call professional. You take back-to-back Zoom, Teams or Meet calls. You work from a home office, a co-working desk or anywhere imperfect. Your problem is sounding professional in the moment. Krisp is the best real-time noise remover there is, it works across every calling app, and the AI meeting notes come along free. At ~A$11/month on the annual Core plan, the audio alone justifies it. The notetaker is a capable bonus, not the main event.

Buy Cleanvoice if you are a podcast or video editor. You publish a weekly episode or a talking-head video. Your problem is the cleanup — the ums, the breaths, the dead air that takes hours to edit by hand. Cleanvoice does that job in minutes for ~A$15/month, lets you review every cut, and exports to Audacity, Audition or Reaper if you want to keep working. It is a cleanup pass, not a full studio — budget for separate recording software.

Buy both only if you do both jobs. A consultant who runs noisy client calls and publishes a podcast is the rare buyer who needs the pair. They do not compete; they sit at opposite ends of the workflow. Even then, that is two ~A$11–19/month subscriptions for two different problems — not one tool replacing the other.

The verdict

There is no single winner, because there is no single buyer. The honest answer is a fork.

For the typical Australian buyer this publication is written for — a busy professional living on calls from an imperfect room — Krisp is the pick. It scores marginally higher (18/25 to 17/25), it solves the more common problem, and its real-time noise cancellation is best-in-class. Most of our readers take more calls than they record podcasts.

For the smaller but clear audience of podcast and video editors, Cleanvoice is the pick. Krisp simply cannot do its job. Within its lane, Cleanvoice is fast, cheap and genuinely useful.

Both lose marks for the same Australian reasons: no AUD billing, no GST clarity, no local support, no onshore data. Neither is a category Top Pick under our gate. But within their lanes, both earn their four stars — and the lanes never cross.

Decide by when your audio problem happens. Live call: Krisp. Recorded file: Cleanvoice. That is the whole comparison.

Update history
  • 24 Sep 2026 — The AUD column was never grossed up for GST, and every word around it said it was. The header read “gross-up; GST unconfirmed” and the note beneath described a 10% uplift — while the figures themselves are plain conversions at 1.4045. Checked before changing a word: across the 63 files carrying this wording, 141 rows convert at 1.4045 and none at 1.4045 × 1.10. No figure changed here; only the description of them did. Two things were wrong beyond the arithmetic: gross-up names a tax uplift and was being used for a currency conversion, and GST unconfirmed is stale — our GST rule settled it on 5 September 2026, and a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service. No USD price moved and no score changed. reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.
