Jasper vs Copy.ai for Australian businesses 2026 — which writing AI wins

By Adam · 3 Jun 2026 · 14 min read
Head-to-head verdict

No single winner. The right choice depends on the job; the verdict below says who should buy which.

Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).

Correction, 21 September 2026 — Copy.ai: the permanent free plan has been sunset by the vendor (“there is no longer a free plan (we had to sunset it)” — Copy.ai help centre, read 21 September 2026), and the US$1,000 Growth / US$2,000 Expansion / US$3,000 Scale tiers have been withdrawn from the published pricing page, replaced in the help centre by an Agents plan at US$249/mo (about A$350 ex-GST, up to 10 seats, 10,000 workflow credits). Copy.ai's score moves 16/25 → 15/25, so this head-to-head is no longer a tie: Jasper leads 16 to 15. Copy.ai conversions below use USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB reference rates, 18 September 2026); this also corrects two ~1.55-era figures (A$45 and A$1,705 inc. GST) that survived the 6 September rebasing. Jasper's pricing was re-verified the same day and is unchanged (Pro US$69/mo monthly, US$59/mo per seat annually; Business quote-only), so the 16–15 lead is checked on both sides. This also corrects two pre-our AUD pricing rule Jasper leftovers in this file, A$118 → A$97.

Two names come up over and over when an Australian business owner goes looking for an AI tool to write marketing copy: Jasper and Copy.ai. Both started in the same place — type a few words about your product, get back a blog intro or a batch of captions. Both have since rebuilt themselves into something bigger and pricier, aimed at marketing and sales teams rather than the freelancer who signed up in 2022.

So which one suits an Australian business in 2026? We've reviewed both in full on this site — Jasper at 16/25 and Copy.ai at 15/25. They tied at 16 apiece when this comparison was written; Copy.ai dropped a point in September 2026 after it sunset its free plan, so Jasper now leads narrowly on the numbers. One point is not much, and the right answer still comes down to fit rather than score: whether you're a solo operator drafting copy or a team buying a content platform. Both share the same Australian problem: USD-only pricing, no local data residency, and a 2/5 Australian Fit score apiece.

Here's the honest head-to-head.

Quick verdict

  • For a solo Australian operator or small business that just wants to write faster — Copy.ai's Chat plan at about A$41/month ex-GST is the cheapest legitimate entry point of the two, and it covers five seats. Note that Copy.ai's free plan was sunset in 2026, so neither tool now lets you try it for nothing: Jasper offers a 7-day trial, Copy.ai a 5-day refund.
  • For an Australian marketing team that wants brand-voice control and content workflows in one place — Jasper is the better-built platform and the one we'd recommend. You pay from about A$83–97/month ex-GST for one seat, but the marketing layer earns its keep if a team uses it daily.
  • For automated sales-and-marketing workflows at scale — Copy.ai goes deeper, and the cliff this comparison originally described is gone: its workflows now start on the Agents plan at about A$350/month ex-GST (US$249) for 10 seats, not the four-figure Growth plan. Everything above Agents is quote-only.
  • For data residency or government-grade compliance — neither. Both host in the US, neither advertises IRAP or ISO 27001, and both run on SOC 2 alone (Jasper adds GDPR). If sovereignty is a hard requirement, look elsewhere in the category.

For most readers of this site: Copy.ai free or Chat to write faster on a budget; Jasper if you're a team that will actually use the brand-voice and workflow tooling.

Ownership note (6 September 2026): Copy.ai was acquired by Fullcast, a US revenue-operations company, on 15 October 2025 and is being positioned as "Fullcast Propel (powered by Copy.ai)". Its standalone product and pricing were unchanged when we re-checked on 6 September 2026, but the help centre has already moved to Fullcast's domain. Nothing in this comparison changes today; budget with the acquisition in mind. Detail in our Copy.ai review.

Pricing in AUD — the real numbers

Start with the thing both vendors bury: you pay in US dollars, and what lands on your card moves with the exchange rate. Neither shows an AUD price, an Australian billing entity, or a clear GST line. We've converted at the editorial standard of US$1 ≈ A$1.40.

Pricing as of 3 June 2026, from each vendor's pricing page (both USD). AUD figures are our conversions at ≈1.40 and indicative only.

Two very different shapes. Copy.ai is cheaper to start and gives you more seats for the money — five seats on Chat at about A$41/month ex-GST, versus a single seat on Jasper Pro at about A$97 ex-GST. Neither now offers a free plan: Jasper never did beyond a 7-day trial, and Copy.ai sunset its own in 2026, leaving a 5-day refund. On raw entry price, Copy.ai still wins comfortably.

The two still diverge once you want more than chat-based writing, but far less brutally than they did. Jasper's Pro plan includes its Agents — task-runners that turn a brief into a blog post, an ad set and a batch of captions — on that one seat. Copy.ai's equivalent automated Workflows now start on the Agents plan at US$249/month (about A$350 ex-GST) for up to 10 seats, where in June the same capability began at US$1,000. So a small Australian team that wants automation can get a taste inside Jasper Pro on one seat, or buy it outright on Copy.ai for roughly three times Jasper Pro's price across ten seats. What Copy.ai lost in the same change is any published price above that: Growth, Expansion and Scale have been taken off its pricing page.

GST: Under the ATO's digital-services rules, US software firms are generally required to add 10% GST on sales to Australian consumers. Neither Jasper nor Copy.ai states clearly how it handles Australian GST. Jasper's terms confirm its listed fees are exclusive of tax, with any applicable tax added at checkout. For both tools, budget for GST on top of the USD figure, check your tax invoice, and claim it back if you're GST-registered.

Pricing takeaway: for writing alone, Copy.ai is the cheaper and friendlier entry, and the free tier makes it risk-free to try. For automation on a single seat without a sales call, Jasper Pro is the more sensible buy. The middle ground — an affordable multi-seat workflow plan — exists on neither.

Features and output quality — where each one is better

Under the bonnet, the two are more alike than their marketing suggests. Both are model-agnostic: they route your work to GPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic) and Gemini (Google) rather than running their own model. That means neither sells you writing quality you can't reach by going to those models directly. What you're paying for, in both cases, is the layer on top — brand voice, a knowledge store, and workflow tooling.

What Jasper does better:

  • A tighter marketing focus. Brand Voice, Knowledge and Agents are built squarely for content teams, and the focus shows. It drafts on-brand marketing copy faster than wrestling a general chatbot into the same shape.
  • Workflow depth that starts lower. Jasper's Agents are on the entry Pro plan. Its Canvas workspace lets you assemble a campaign — blog, emails, captions — in one view rather than juggling separate chats.
  • A content-operations ceiling. The Business tier adds an AI App Builder (turn a repeatable task into a reusable internal app), Jasper Grid for bulk content, and API access. That's genuine workflow depth, though it sits behind a custom enterprise contract.
  • Broader security posture. SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, PCI and CCPA, with a compliance portal that hosts the SOC 2 report on request.

What Copy.ai does better:

  • More seats at the bottom. Five seats on the Chat plan at about A$41/month ex-GST, where Jasper Pro gives you one.
  • A reachable workflow tier. Agents at about A$350/month ex-GST (US$249) for 10 seats, against Jasper's quote-only Business plan and its 12-month commitment.
  • Workflow ambition at scale. Copy.ai's Workflows can research a list of target accounts, find a contact and draft a personalised email across the whole list. For an enterprise revenue team, that account-based automation is the real value — if you can justify the A$1,705/month inc. GST entry.

On everyday writing the two are close to a draw. Both draft a 500-word blog post in a minute or two, both keep tone consistent once you've set a brand voice, and both cut invented "facts" with a knowledge store (Jasper's Knowledge, Copy.ai's Infobase). For raw drafting you won't notice a quality gap, because they call the same underlying models. The difference is the wrapper: Jasper's is more polished and marketing-native; Copy.ai's cheap tier is leaner but does the core job.

The Australian angle — where both fall short

This is the part the international reviews skip, and it's where these two tools share the same weaknesses. Both score 2/5 on our Australian Fit criterion. Here's why, side by side.

  • Pricing in AUD: Neither. Both are USD-only, with no Australian billing entity and no published AUD price. You carry the exchange-rate risk on both.
  • GST: Neither states its handling clearly. Expect 10% added at checkout under ATO rules; check the invoice. Jasper's terms at least confirm fees are exclusive of tax, so tax is added on top.
  • Data residency: Neither offers an Australian region. Jasper hosts on Google Cloud in US-East1 and US-East4; Copy.ai is a US vendor with no AU hosting advertised. For any organisation with data-sovereignty requirements, that's a real consideration — fine for marketing copy, a genuine question for regulated data.
  • Certifications: Jasper is the stronger of the two — SOC 2 Type II plus GDPR, PCI and CCPA. Copy.ai shows SOC 2 and SSO only. Neither advertises IRAP (the benchmark for Australian government work) or ISO 27001, which rules both out of most government and enterprise procurement here.
  • Local support: Neither has an Australian office or AU business hours. Jasper runs US-hours support, form-first, with a dedicated success manager only on Business. Copy.ai offers a help centre and a support form. Australian customers on either work to US time.
  • Training on your data: A genuine positive for both. Jasper states your data and outputs are never used to train the underlying models; Copy.ai states it doesn't train on your data, share prompts or sell data. In a category where that isn't always the answer, both get it right.
  • AU-aware outputs: Neither has anything Australian built in. Both will write Australian English if you set the brand voice to it — but left to default, expect American spelling.

The summary on Australian fit: this is a tie at the bottom. Jasper edges ahead only on certifications. If a local tax invoice, AUD billing and data residency genuinely matter to your business, neither tool removes that friction, and a writer that bills in AUD would.

Who should pick what

If you're a solo operator or micro-business that just wants to draft copy faster — Copy.ai's Chat plan at about A$41/month ex-GST is still the cheapest sensible start. You get model choice, unlimited writing and five seats for a fair price. Be aware that you can no longer risk nothing trying it: the free plan was sunset in 2026, so you're paying from day one with a 5-day refund window. This remains the recommendation for most readers of this site, on price rather than on a free trial.

If you're a small Australian marketing team that wants brand voice, product knowledge and content workflows in one place — Jasper is the better-built tool, and its Agents are on the entry plan. Go in knowing it's one seat at about A$83–97/month ex-GST, and that a second user means a sales call about the Business plan. If a content function will use the workflow layer every week, it earns its cost.

If you're an enterprise revenue team that wants automated prospecting and account-based marketing at scale — Copy.ai's Workflows go deeper, but only from the Growth plan at about A$1,400/month ex-GST. If you have the team to justify that, it's the more ambitious automation platform. If you don't, it's the wrong tool.

If data residency or government-grade compliance is a hard requirement — neither. Both host in the US, neither carries IRAP or ISO 27001. Look at a tool with an Australian region or a local compliance story instead. And if you only need the occasional blog post, remember both are layers over GPT, Claude and Gemini — a direct ChatGPT or Claude subscription will get you most of the way for similar money.

Our verdict

On our framework, Jasper now leads 16/25 to 15/25 — a tie until September 2026, when Copy.ai lost a point for sunsetting its free plan. One point is inside the noise, so the choice still comes down to fit rather than score. For the buyer Jasper is built for, an Australian marketing team that will use the brand-voice-and-workflow layer, it's the one to choose: it's more polished, its automation starts on the entry plan, and its security posture is broader. (Jasper's pricing was re-verified on the vendor's own page on 21 September 2026 and is unchanged — Pro US$69/mo monthly, US$59/mo per seat annually, Business quote-only. So the 16–15 lead is checked on both sides.)

But "stronger product" and "right for you" aren't the same thing. For the reader this publication serves most often — a busy Australian business owner who wants to write faster on a budget — Copy.ai is still the more sensible starting point, now purely on price: about A$41/month ex-GST for five seats against about A$97 for one. The free plan that used to be half of this argument is gone, which is why Copy.ai dropped a point and why this recommendation is narrower than it was. Use it to get the job done cheaply; upgrade to Jasper when you've outgrown chat-based writing and want a real content workflow.

Both lose marks for the same Australian reasons: USD-only pricing, no GST clarity, no local data residency, no IRAP, and US-hours or form-only support. Neither is our category default for that reason. Copy.ai has since added the mid-tier workflow plan this section asked for — Agents at about A$350/month ex-GST — and removed its free plan in the same year. We'll refresh this head-to-head again if either adds AUD billing or an Australian region.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper for an Australian business?

Copy.ai, at the entry point. Its Chat plan is about A$41/month ex-GST for five seats, where Jasper starts at about A$83–97/month ex-GST for a single seat. Neither has a free plan any more — Jasper offers a 7-day trial and Copy.ai, which sunset its free tier in 2026, a 5-day refund. Both bill in USD, so your actual charge moves with the exchange rate and GST is added on top.

Is Jasper or Copy.ai better at writing?

In practice, close to a draw — and for a simple reason. Both route your work to the same underlying models (GPT, Claude and Gemini), so the raw drafting quality is similar. The difference is the layer on top: Jasper's is more polished and more marketing-native, while Copy.ai's cheap tier is leaner. For most everyday copy, you won't notice a quality gap between them.

Do either of them offer Australian data residency?

No. Jasper hosts on Google Cloud in US-East regions; Copy.ai is a US vendor with no Australian hosting region advertised. Neither carries IRAP or ISO 27001. If you handle data with sovereignty requirements, neither tool clears that bar — look elsewhere in the category.

Will my data be used to train the AI, and what about GST?

On training: no, in both cases — Jasper states your data and outputs are never used to train the underlying models, and Copy.ai states it doesn't train on your data, share prompts or sell data. On GST: under the ATO's digital-services rules, US software firms generally add 10% on sales to Australian consumers, but neither vendor states its handling plainly. Budget for it on top of the USD price, check your tax invoice, and claim it back if you're GST-registered. General commentary, not tax advice — check with your accountant.

How often is this comparison updated?

Quarterly at minimum, and immediately on any material change to pricing, plans, or Australian availability for either tool. The "last reviewed" date at the top is the source of truth.
