The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.

Verdict (TL;DR): Sonauto has rebranded as Treblo. It is genuinely free, genuinely fast, and genuinely fun to use. The problem is that commercial licensing is poorly documented, training data provenance is unclear, and it carries all the caveats of any "free unlimited" product: no transparency, no Australian support, and no guarantee it stays free. Useful for personal experiments. Not ready for paid client work.

What Sonauto (Treblo) Is

Sonauto launched as an AI music generation platform and quietly rebranded to Treblo (treblo.com) in early 2026. (exact rebranding date — the Treblo blog post is undated; verified via treblo.com/blog/sonauto-is-now-treblo as of June 2026.) The old sonauto.ai domain redirects to treblo.com, and all previously shared links and accounts carry over.

The pitch is simple: describe a song, pick a style, hit generate, and music starts streaming in roughly 15 seconds. Treblo supports lyrics and vocals, instrumental tracks, and a structural format that recognises markers like [Intro], [Verse 1], and [Chorus]. You can extend tracks, swap sections, or upload audio to remix. Styles span pop, rock, hip-hop, country, EDM, jazz, lo-fi, K-pop, drill, classical, Latin, Afrobeats, folk, indie, and thousands of sub-genres.

The notable thing: it is completely free to use. Unlimited songs, no credit system, no daily cap, no credit card required.

The company also offers a developer API (under the Sonauto brand, still live at sonauto.ai/developers) with credit-based pricing for teams building music into products. That is a separate offering from the consumer product.

What It Costs in Australia

Plan USD/month AUD/month (approx ×1.40)
Free (consumer) $0 $0
API Starter (developer) $11 ~$15
API Production (developer) $88 ~$123
API High-Volume (developer) From $330 ~$462

Note on pricing: The consumer product (Treblo) is free with no documented paid tier as of September 2026. (not stated by the vendor — whether a future paid plan exists or is planned — nothing confirmed on treblo.com.) The API pricing above is sourced from sonauto.ai/developers/pricing and is aimed at developers building with the API, not everyday users. AUD conversions use an exchange rate of approximately 1 USD ≈ AUD 1.40 as of September 2026. GST treatment on offshore SaaS for Australian consumers:

There is no AUD pricing. No Australian payment portal. Billing is in USD if you move to the developer API.

How It Works in Practice

You visit treblo.com (or the Android app), type a description — "lo-fi hip-hop, melancholic, no vocals, 2 minutes" — and click generate. The platform returns a full track in under a minute. You can paste lyrics and structure them with section tags, and the AI aligns vocals accordingly.

Output quality is surprisingly respectable for a free tool. Tracks have coherent structure, instrumentation that fits the genre description, and reasonable vocal performance when lyrics are included. It is not Suno-level production polish, but it is well above the junk output from early-generation music AI tools.

Extending tracks works: you pick a section and ask the platform to continue it. Remixing uploaded audio is possible but experimental; results vary significantly depending on what you feed in.

The web interface is clean and functional. There is no DAW plugin. (iOS app availability — the Google Play listing carries the old "Sonauto – AI Music" branding; iOS status not confirmed.)

What It Does Well

Genuinely free, no tricks. Most "free" AI music tools limit you to watermarked exports, five songs a week, or 30-second clips. Treblo gives you unlimited full-length songs. That is a meaningful difference.

Fast generation. Music starts streaming in about 15 seconds. You do not wait two minutes for a track to render before you know whether the direction is right.

Breadth of styles. The genre range is genuinely wide. Country and folk tracks do not sound like EDM with acoustic guitars. Genre fidelity is better than many competitors at this price point — which is free.

Ownership of outputs. The terms state: "whatever rights may exist in them belong to you, not us." That is a better position than some competitors that retain ownership or grant only a limited licence.

Developer API. If you are building a product that needs music generation, the Melodia API gives you a programmatic interface. Affordable at entry level for developers.

What It Doesn't Do Well

Commercial licensing is murky. The ToS grants ownership of outputs to users, but does not explicitly address Spotify/Apple Music distribution, sync licensing, or use in advertising. (current Treblo position on commercial streaming releases and paid sync use — the ToS at treblo.com/tos grants you the outputs but contains no explicit sync licence language as of June 2026.) Before releasing music commercially, get written confirmation from Treblo support and save a dated copy of the ToS.

Training data provenance is unknown. Treblo publishes nothing about what music was used to train its models, whether original artists consented, or whether training data was licensed. This is a meaningful gap at a time when the music industry is actively litigating AI training practices (see the ongoing Suno/Udio lawsuits in the US). It is a direct contrast to competitors like Lemonaide that make training ethics a central selling point.

No stems, no MIDI, no DAW integration. You get a final mixed audio file. You cannot export individual instrument stems, access MIDI, or load anything into Ableton, Logic, or GarageBand for further production work. It is a finished-track tool, not a production assistant.

Rebranding creates uncertainty. A product that quietly rebranded — with the old domain still running developer tools and the new domain running the consumer product — raises questions about product direction and long-term reliability. The split branding is messy.

No Australian support, AU accent, or AU-specific features. No local support channel, no Australian English vocal option, no APRA AMCOS guidance. Data processed offshore in the US. (data storage location — no privacy policy prominently linked on treblo.com as of June 2026; US origin assumed based on company location.)

Australian Fit

Treblo is a US product. Data is processed offshore. (specific data storage region — no prominently linked privacy policy on treblo.com as of June 2026.) There is no Australian-specific pricing, no AUD billing, and no GST documentation.

Commercial use: Australian podcasters, video producers, and business owners who want background music for paid projects should proceed with caution. The ToS grants ownership of outputs, but the absence of explicit sync licence language means you are operating on an assumption, not a documented right. For personal use and experimentation, the risk is low. For client-facing commercial work, get clarity in writing first.

APRA AMCOS: AI-generated music from platforms like Treblo sits in a grey zone under Australian copyright law. The Australian Copyright Act does not confer copyright on AI-generated works without a human author. That means Treblo tracks may not be protectable — which is simultaneously liberating (free to use) and limiting (no protection against third parties copying them). (specific ACCC/APRA guidance as of June 2026.)

Training data: No information published. A concern for Australians who care about whether AI was trained on music without artist consent.

Voices: No Australian English accent option documented. (full accent/language support list — not published on treblo.com.)

AU Fit score: 2/5. Free and functional, but nothing here is built for Australia.

Alternatives

  • Suno — reviewed at suno-review-australia-2026 — clearer commercial licensing on paid plans, higher production quality, more polished vocal output.
  • Udio — reviewed at udio-review-australia-2026 — strong genre depth, stem export on paid plans, better-documented commercial terms.
  • Soundraw — reviewed at review-soundraw-australia-2026 — royalty-free music for video creators, customisable and commercially clean on paid tiers.

Bottom Line

Treblo (Sonauto) is the best free AI music generator available right now. Unlimited songs, real variety, decent output quality, and user ownership of outputs. For personal use — making demos, experimenting with ideas, generating backing tracks for your own videos — it is hard to argue against something that costs nothing.

The problem is everything around the edges. Commercial licensing is not clearly documented. Training data provenance is opaque. The rebranding raises product-direction questions. And there is nothing here for Australians specifically — no local support, no AUD billing, no guidance on APRA AMCOS or Australian copyright law.

Use it to experiment. Do not use it in paid client work until you have explicit written confirmation of your commercial rights.

Update history
  • 1 Oct 2026 — Sonauto is now called Treblo and has moved to treblo.com; old sonauto.ai links redirect. Prices checked from Australia are unchanged: the consumer app is still free, and the developer API costs US$11, US$88 or from US$330 a month. This review keeps the Sonauto name for now.
  • 24 Sep 2026 — The grossed-up AUD column removed from the pricing table. The table carried a second Australian column adding 10% GST to every converted figure, so each plan had two Australian prices and the higher one asserted a tax most of our readers do not pay: a GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service. The ex-GST column is unchanged and is the price. Removed, and kept visible here per our price-history rule — the column headed “AUD if GST charged (+10%)”: Free (consumer) $0; API Starter (developer) ~$17; API Production (developer) ~$136; API High-Volume (developer) ~$508. reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.
