Verdict (TL;DR): Mureka produces impressive full-length AI songs from a text prompt, with commercial rights bundled into paid plans from around AU$12/month. The output quality is genuinely competitive, but the training data transparency is limited, the free tier is restrictive, and Australians uploading audio should note that data is processed offshore by a Singapore-based entity linked to Chinese tech company Kunlun Tech. Good for content creators and marketing teams; less suitable where music originality or data sovereignty matters.

What Mureka is

Mureka is an AI music generation platform developed by Skywork AI Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-headquartered company linked to Kunlun Tech, one of China's larger listed technology groups. The platform launched in 2024 and positions itself as a full-stack AI music tool: you type a description of the song you want — genre, mood, tempo, lyrical theme — and Mureka generates a complete track with vocals, instrumentation, and lyrics in under a minute.

It operates in the same space as Suno and Udio, but distinguishes itself with more granular editing controls at the Pro tier, including stem separation, melody extension, and reference audio uploads. The platform also includes a text-to-speech product alongside the music generation.

Mureka's API platform is separate from the consumer web product and is aimed at developers building music into their applications.

What it costs in Australia

Mureka does not offer AUD billing. All pricing is in USD and will be charged to Australian cards at your bank's exchange rate. At an approximate rate of 1.00 USD = 1.40 AUD:

Plan USD/month (annual) Approx. AUD/month What you get
Free $0 $0 Limited generations; no commercial rights
Pro (called Basic when reviewed) $8 ~AU$11 500 songs or 250 min speech/month; MP3 downloads; commercial rights
Premier (called Pro when reviewed) $24 ~AU$34 2,000 songs or 1,000 min speech/month; WAV/stems; voice cloning; commercial rights

Month to month the two plans cost US$10 and US$30 (read on mureka.ai/subscribe, 30 September 2026). Mureka has renamed its plans since June: the tier this review calls Basic is now "Pro", and the tier it calls Pro is now "Premier". GST is not separately itemised on Australian invoices; the ATO's general position is that offshore digital services purchased by Australian consumers are subject to GST, so the effective AUD cost may be approximately 10% higher depending on your billing arrangement.

The free tier is available but comes without commercial usage rights and with limits tight enough that it's a test-drive, not a working tool.

How it works in practice

You open Mureka's web interface and describe what you want. "An upbeat acoustic pop song about starting a new business, hopeful, female vocals, 90 seconds" gets you a track within roughly 30–60 seconds. The results are often surprisingly usable — the vocals are synthetic but clean, the structure sounds like a real song rather than a loop, and the lyrics connect to the prompt.

At the Pro tier, you can upload a reference audio clip to guide the style, adjust specific sections of a generated track, separate stems (vocals, drums, instruments) for further editing, and use voice cloning for commercial projects. These are meaningful differentiators from some competitors that lock you into a single generation with no post-production control.

The platform also supports a "topical track" format — pre-defined style presets for common use cases like podcast intro music or YouTube background audio.

Output quality is consistent enough that you can get a usable result in two or three attempts for most briefs. Very specific or unusual genre requests sometimes produce muddier results.

What it does well

Commercial rights included from $8 USD/month. This is non-trivial. Plenty of AI music tools charge extra for commercial licensing or attach significant usage restrictions. Mureka makes it clear that paid-plan generations can be used in commercial products, advertising, and platform distribution.

Full-song output, not just clips. Many AI music tools generate short loops or stingers. Mureka produces complete structured songs with verse, chorus, and bridge — usable for marketing videos, social content, or podcasting without significant stitching or editing.

Stem downloads on Pro. The ability to download isolated vocal and instrumental tracks gives creators meaningful editing headroom. This moves Mureka from "generate and publish" to something closer to a production assist tool.

Pricing is accessible. At roughly AU$11/month for the entry plan (billed yearly), Mureka sits well below the cost of licensed music libraries or commissioning even a single original track.

What it doesn't do well

Training data transparency is limited. Mureka does not publish a clear public statement about what music was used to train its models. The terms of service acknowledge that generated output may have similarities to other users' generated content, and explicitly note that copyright registration cannot be guaranteed. For any Australian creator who needs to defend originality in a commercial context, this is a real concern.

Originality cannot be assured. The platform itself warns that AI-generated tracks may be similar to content produced by other users. If you're producing branded music for a client where distinctive identity matters, commission a composer.

No AU data residency. Uploaded audio, prompts, and account data are processed by Skywork AI Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. Kunlun Tech's involvement as the parent company may be relevant for organisations with data governance policies that restrict data flows to entities with significant Chinese ownership. The privacy policy is governed by Singapore law.

Voice cloning ethics and consent. The Pro tier allows voice cloning for commercial use. Mureka's terms require users to have consent from the voice owner, but enforcement is user-side. Australian creators working with voice talent should ensure independent consent documentation exists.

No offline or AU-based processing option. All generation happens in the cloud. There is no API access at Basic; Pro users need the separate API platform with its own pricing structure.

Australian fit

Mureka is available to Australian users and accepts Australian payment methods. The product itself works equally well from any geography.

The AU-specific concerns are: no AUD pricing, no AU data residency, and the parent company context noted above. There are no AU-specific support channels, AU-language output tuning, or GST-compliant invoicing.

For most Australian content creators — podcasters, social media managers, small business owners producing video content — these limitations are acceptable trade-offs for the price. For a law firm, health organisation, or government agency uploading audio to the platform, the data processing location deserves closer review.

The commercial licensing terms are clear enough for straightforward use. Unusual commercial applications — broadcast television, film, music release — should involve a lawyer's review of the current terms before signing off.

Alternatives

  • Suno — the most direct competitor. Comparable output quality; similarly opaque training data; also includes commercial rights on paid plans. The choice often comes down to interface preference.
  • Udio — strong on stylistic control and genre nuance. Slightly more complex interface. Worth testing alongside Mureka before committing to either.
  • Beatoven.ai — mood-and-genre-based generation without vocals; better suited to background and functional music. Cleaner positioning for instrumental content.

Bottom line

Mureka is a capable AI music generator that competes directly with Suno and holds its own on output quality. The commercial rights on paid plans and stem-download capability at Pro are genuine differentiators. For Australian content creators making social videos, podcasts, or marketing assets, it's a reasonable tool at a reasonable price.

The caveats are real: training data isn't transparent, originality cannot be guaranteed, and data flows through a Singapore entity linked to a Chinese technology group. None of that disqualifies the tool for most casual commercial use, but it does mean it's not the right choice for every context.

Recommended for: Podcasters, social media creators, marketing teams, and small businesses needing affordable background or promotional music.

Not recommended for: Projects requiring provable originality, enterprises with strict data governance, or anyone releasing standalone commercial music tracks.

Update history
  • 30 Sep 2026 — re-verified by browser; negative confirmed, plans renamed. The consumer plans are on mureka.ai/subscribe (the platform.mureka.ai page this review cited is the separate API platform). On an Australian connection: Pro $8 a month billed yearly ($10 monthly), up to 500 songs; Premier $24 ($30), up to 2,000 songs. Prices hold, but the plans were renamed (Basic → Pro, Pro → Premier) and the allowances raised from 400 and 1,600 songs. The table, monthly note and sources are updated; two prose figures still on the retired basis (AU$12 and AU$37) now read AU$11 and AU$34, in the body and FAQ (body and schema). Bare $, no A$. aud_native: false already set. Score unchanged. Capture: Dossiers/captures/mureka-pricing-2026-09-30.txt; Wayback 30 Sep 2026.

  • 21 Sep 2026 — Tracxn citation repointed, and the Kunlun Tech parent claim re-sourced. The cited Tracxn profile URL (tracxn.com/d/companies/mureka/) returned HTTP 404; Tracxn now requires a tokenised path and the live profile has been substituted. On checking it, the Tracxn profile does not mention Skywork AI or Kunlun Tech at all — it lists Mureka only as a Singapore company founded in 2024 — so the label it carried here was wrong. The Skywork AI link is now sourced primarily, to Skywork AI’s own 26 March 2025 press release announcing Mureka O1 from a Singapore dateline. The "linked to Kunlun Tech" characterisation — which runs through the frontmatter maker: field, the verdict, the data-residency section and the FAQ — currently rests on trade-press reporting (Music Business Worldwide, Music Ally), not on a primary filing or vendor statement checked by us. Flagged for a proper corporate-ownership check against Kunlun Tech’s Shenzhen listing disclosures; no wording changed and no score moved in this pass.
