The verdict: SlidesAI slots neatly into Google Slides and turns a block of text into a structured presentation in one to two minutes. For simple internal decks, team briefings, or first-draft skeletons, that speed has genuine value. But the output formula — four bullet points, one image, repeat — gets old quickly, and the tool struggles the moment your content requires nuance, data visualisation, or industry-specific precision. Australians pay in USD with GST added at checkout (handled via Paddle), there is no Australian data region, and your input text routes through OpenAI's servers. For a casual slide deck, that is fine. For anything client-facing or sensitive, you need to know that before you paste in your content. Score: 13/25 — Good.
What it is
SlidesAI is a Google Workspace add-on that generates presentation slides from text or a topic prompt. You paste in your content — a brief, a report excerpt, a bullet-point outline — choose a presentation type and colour preset, and the tool builds a full deck inside Google Slides in roughly a minute. It launched in January 2023, was built by Anurag Bhagsain under the operating entity Zesterv LLC (registered in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates), and has accumulated 14 million installs on the Google Workspace Marketplace.
There is no standalone app to learn. If you already use Google Slides, SlidesAI lives inside the sidebar as an add-on. That is both its biggest advantage and the ceiling of its ambition.
What it costs in Australia (AUD + GST)
SlidesAI now quotes Australian dollars to Australian visitors (read in a browser on 1 October 2026). Paddle.com acts as the merchant of record, and Paddle handles Australian GST automatically — meaning 10% GST is added at checkout for Australian customers (confirmed: Paddle is registered for Australian GST and charges it on all Australian transactions).
| Plan | A$/month (monthly) | A$/month (billed yearly) | A$/year | Presentations | Character input | AI credits/yr |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic (Free) | A$0 | A$0 | A$0 | 12/year | 1,000/presentation | 120/year |
| Pro | A$14.40 | A$10.08 | A$120.95 | 120/year | 6,000/presentation | 600/year |
| Premium | A$30.00 | A$15.00 (50%-off promotion) | A$179.98 | Unlimited | 12,000/presentation | 1,200/year |
These are SlidesAI's own Australian prices, exclusive of tax (1 October 2026). The Premium yearly price was a time-limited 50%-off promotion. In June the page showed US dollars: Pro US$120 a year and Premium US$250 a year.
Paddle adds 10% GST at checkout, which brings Pro to about A$133 a year. Check your checkout screen for the final figure.
SlidesAI now shows Australian prices; whether the card is charged in AUD at checkout was not tested.
How it works
Install SlidesAI from the Google Workspace Marketplace. Open Google Slides, find SlidesAI in the Extensions menu, and a sidebar appears. You choose your generation method — paste text or enter a topic — pick a presentation type (general, educational, sales, conference), select a colour preset, and hit generate. A complete deck appears in your Slides file within one to two minutes.
The Premium plan adds document upload, which lets you feed in a PDF instead of pasting text. A ChatGPT-style conversational interface was listed on the site at the time of review but was still flagged "Coming Soon" rather than live. Webpage and YouTube link conversion were also flagged as coming soon. Treat all three as roadmap items, not shipped features, and check the live product if they matter to your buying decision.
Post-generation, built-in tools let you rephrase text, change tone, and swap images without rebuilding from scratch. The tool pulls from a royalty-free stock library and can generate AI images directly in the sidebar. Export to PPTX, PDF, MP4, and SVG is supported — though reviewers note that PowerPoint export has limitations and full functionality sits firmly in Google Slides.
Your input text is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. SlidesAI's privacy policy states no personal information beyond your email address is shared with OpenAI, but your presentation content does leave SlidesAI's systems and pass through OpenAI's infrastructure.
What it does well
Speed. A topic prompt becomes a structured, templated presentation in under two minutes. For team check-ins, internal briefings, or rough first drafts, that is a meaningful time saving.
Google Slides native. There is no separate platform to learn, no export-and-reimport friction, no new login to manage. If your team already lives in Google Workspace, SlidesAI adds capability without changing your workflow.
150-plus templates. The template library is genuinely broad, and the colour preset system means you can get close to your brand palette without manual slide-by-slide formatting.
Low entry price. Twelve presentations per year on the free tier is enough for occasional use. The Pro plan at A$120.95 a year (before GST) is cheaper than most comparable AI presentation tools.
100-plus languages. Useful for Australian businesses with multilingual teams or clients.
Where it falls short
The output formula is rigid. SlidesAI defaults to a "four bullet points, one image" layout almost regardless of what you give it. A sales deck, a project update, and a conference talk all come out looking structurally identical. Once the novelty wears off, you spend more time editing the template than you saved generating it.
No data visualisation. You cannot generate business charts — not waterfall charts, not Gantt charts, not Excel-linked graphs. For anyone in finance, consulting, or operations who needs data-heavy presentations, this is a hard limit, not a minor gap.
Character limits constrain depth. The Premium plan caps input at 12,000 characters per presentation. That is roughly 1,800 to 2,000 words — enough for a short brief, not enough for a detailed report or a long document.
Features marked "coming soon" during testing. At the time of writing, document upload was confirmed as functional on paid plans; conversational AI generation and webpage-to-slides conversion were still listed as coming soon, not shipped. If either of those is central to why you are buying, check the live product first — a "coming soon" label is not a delivery date.
Trustpilot tells a different story than Google. The tool holds a 4.3-star rating on the Google Workspace Marketplace (based on 2,359 reviews), but its Trustpilot score sits well below that — in the low-3s-or-worse range, materially lower than the Marketplace figure. User complaints there cluster around billing difficulties, cancellation friction, and slow support response times. The 15-day refund window is short.
PowerPoint is a second-class citizen. The tool is built for Google Slides. PPTX export exists but reviewers consistently note that the full feature set only works natively in Slides. If your colleagues or clients use PowerPoint, expect formatting drift.
Australian fit
SlidesAI is built and operated from the UAE with no Australian office, and no Australian data region, though it now quotes Australian prices.
Data residency: Your input text is processed by OpenAI's API. OpenAI does not currently offer an Australian data region — data is processed in the United States. SlidesAI's privacy policy makes no reference to the Australian Privacy Act 1988 or the Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Data Breaches) Act 2017. For presentations containing client data, commercially sensitive material, or personal information, this is a real consideration, not a technicality.
Pricing: Australian dollars on the web (1 October 2026), exclusive of tax; Paddle, registered for Australian GST, adds it at checkout.
Support: Email-based support only. No Australian time-zone coverage confirmed. Trustpilot reviews suggest response times can be slow.
AU-specific outputs: The tool supports 100-plus languages but has no Australia-specific content awareness. It will not automatically factor in local terminology, Australian business context, or regional references. A "sales presentation" prompt will produce a generic global template, not something calibrated for an Australian audience.
GST on your invoice: Paddle includes GST on your receipt as the merchant of record, which is useful for your BAS. Paddle is registered for Australian GST and charges 10% on all Australian transactions — confirm the line item on your checkout screen before completing purchase.
For a Melbourne small-business owner creating internal slides, the data residency situation is manageable. For a firm handling client information, patient data, or financial records, the lack of Australian data controls is a disqualifier.
Score
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Value for Money | 3/5 | Free tier is useful for occasional use; Pro at A$120.95/yr is fair for 120 presentations. But the output quality means you pay in editing time what you save in generation time. |
| Ease of Use | 4/5 | Genuinely simple. If you use Google Slides, you can be generating presentations within five minutes of installing. No learning curve worth mentioning. |
| Feature Depth | 3/5 | Core text-to-slides works. Document upload works on paid plans. But no data visualisation, rigid layouts, and several advertised features still marked "coming soon" limit what you can actually do. |
| Australian Fit | 1/5 | Quotes AUD on the web since at least 1 Oct 2026 (re-score owed); no Australian data region, no AU-specific content outputs, no reference to Australian privacy law, no local support. Data routes through OpenAI's US infrastructure. |
| Reliability & Support | 2/5 | Technically functional, but the Trustpilot rating sits well below the Google Marketplace score, and that gap is hard to ignore. Billing complaints and slow support responses are a pattern, not an outlier. |
| Total | 13/25 |
★★★ Good
Australian Fit gate note: Australian Fit scored 1/5. Under the publication's Australian Fit gate, a ★★★★★ Excellent rating requires Australian Fit ≥ 4/5. This score is unaffected, but a five-star rating would be blocked regardless of the raw total. See our methodology for details.
Bottom line
If you need quick, disposable internal slides and already live in Google Slides — SlidesAI's free tier or Pro plan is worth a try. It saves 20 to 30 minutes on first-draft deck structure, and the Google-native experience is genuinely frictionless.
If you are creating client-facing presentations or anything requiring data charts, precise industry language, or a distinctive layout — SlidesAI will frustrate you. The four-bullets-one-image formula is not a starting point you can refine; it is the product. You will spend more time working around the limitations than the tool saves you.
If your business handles sensitive data, client information, or anything subject to Australian privacy obligations — the absence of an Australian data region and no reference to the Privacy Act makes SlidesAI unsuitable. Your content routes through US-based OpenAI infrastructure with no local controls.
If you need PowerPoint — use a tool designed for it. SlidesAI is a Google Slides product that tolerates PPTX export, not the other way around.
For most Australian small businesses that need a quick internal deck once or twice a month, the free tier covers that use case adequately. Go in knowing what you are getting: a fast, capable skeleton-builder with a narrow feature set and no meaningful Australian footprint.
