Verdict in one line: The fastest route from "I have an app idea" to a real App Store listing — as long as you treat the output as a first draft, not a finished product.

⚠️ STALENESS FLAG — 5 September 2026. This first look was published 16 January 2026 and is 232 days old. It has not been re-verified against the vendor since. AI products move fast: pricing, model versions, plan names and Australian availability may all have changed. Read the verdict below as a snapshot of January 2026, not as a current recommendation. (House rule: any review over six months old carries this flag until it is updated.)

What launched

On 15 January 2026 Replit launched Mobile Apps on Replit: describe the app you want in plain English, and Replit's Agent generates a complete React Native application (via Expo), ready to test on your phone and submit to the App Store. iOS came first; native Android builds have since shipped, and both are built from Replit on the web.

What it does

This is vibe coding pointed at mobile. You chat, the Agent scaffolds screens, data and logic, and you iterate by describing changes. Replit's pitch is creators and small-business owners going "from idea to working app in minutes, and to the App Store in days" — the App Store review process still applies, as does Apple's developer account.

Pricing for Australians

Mobile app building runs on Replit's existing plans — the free tier for tinkering, with serious agent usage needing the paid Core plan at US$20/month, or US$18/month billed annually — roughly A$28 and A$25 at 1.40 (verified September 2026), ex-GST — plus usage-based agent charges. Pro sits above at US$100/month. Add Apple's US$99/year developer account if you actually want to ship. Billing is USD throughout, and Replit notes prices are subject to tax depending on your location.

Plan USD per month Approx. AUD per month, ex-GST (1.40, Sep 2026)
Starter Free Free
Core US$20 (US$18 billed annually) ~A$28 (~A$25 annual)
Pro US$100 ~A$140

Figures as verified in the browser on 20 September 2026; on 28 September replit.com/pricing served a bot-verification wall to our browser, so they were not re-read that day.

Australian Fit

Replit works fine from Australia and nothing in the product is region-locked. But it's a thoroughly US product: USD billing, US-hosted workloads, no AU data residency, no local support hours. For a small business building a customer-facing app that handles Australian personal information, the Privacy Act homework is yours. 3/5.

Early read

Good: the demo-to-reality gap is smaller than we expected — simple utility apps genuinely materialise; Expo means one codebase for both platforms eventually. Not so good: anything beyond CRUD-and-screens still hits walls; agent usage costs can creep; and "in minutes" ignores Apple review, accounts and the unglamorous 20% that takes 80% of the time.

Early verdict

For a prototype, a internal tool, or testing whether customers want your app idea — start here, this week. For your business's flagship product, budget for a developer to harden whatever the Agent produces.

Update history
  • 28 Sep 2026 — Pricing table added; the directory tile was blank for want of one. The Core and Pro figures were already in this review as prose, verified in the browser on 20 September, but a first-look page with no pipe table publishes no entry price to the tile. The table repeats those figures and dates them; no new claim. replit.com/pricing met our browser with a Cloudflare bot check today, so the 20 September read stands. No score change.
  • 20 Sep 2026 — Staleness check. Re-verified the launch, the toolchain and Replit's plan prices. Android native builds have shipped. Replit's mobile page now says "to build a native iOS or Android app, open Replit on the web". It was iOS only, with Android promised as a fast follow. The Expo preview, the React Native output and the Apple Developer account requirement for App Store submission are unchanged. Plan prices are still USD with no AUD option. Core is US$20/month, or US$18/month billed annually — about A$28 and A$25 at 1.40 (verified September 2026), ex-GST. Pro sits at US$100/month, or US$90 annually. The review previously named the Core plan without a price. Replit states prices are subject to tax depending on your location. Score unchanged at 17/25. Frequently asked questions

What changed?

On 15 January 2026 Replit launched Mobile Apps on Replit: describe an app in plain English and the Agent generates a complete React Native application (via Expo), ready to test on your phone and submit to the App Store. iOS came first; native Android builds have since shipped.

Does this affect Australian users?

It works fine from Australia and nothing is region-locked. But billing is USD throughout — Replit's Core plan at US$20/month (US$18 billed annually) plus usage-based agent charges, and Apple's US$99/year developer account if you want to ship. There's no AU data residency or local support.

Is it ready for a flagship product?

Not yet. Simple utility apps genuinely materialise, but anything beyond CRUD-and-screens hits walls and agent costs can creep. For a prototype or testing demand, start this week. For your flagship, budget a developer to harden the output.
