The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.

Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).

Verdict (TL;DR): Equals is a genuinely capable BI tool for revenue and finance teams who need live data, spreadsheet flexibility, and AI-assisted analysis — all in one place. The product is real, the customer list is credible (Notion, Cursor, Descript, Intercom), and the AI agent that builds reports from plain-English questions is better than most. The problem for Australian readers: it starts at USD $24,000 per year (~AUD $33,600 + GST), requires a sales call to even get a demo, stores data in the US with no stated Australian data region, and is explicitly built for SaaS and GTM teams — not the small-to-medium Australian business the majority of our readers run. A genuine recommendation for the right type of Australian company; a flat no for everyone else.

What Equals is

Equals is a browser-based analytics spreadsheet — not a replacement for Excel or Google Sheets for everyday tasks, but a BI layer that sits between your data sources and your reporting. It connects directly to data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, ClickHouse), CRMs (Salesforce, HubSpot, Attio), billing systems (Stripe, Paddle), analytics tools (Mixpanel, Segment, PostHog), and accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite).

Once connected, your spreadsheet is live. Refresh rates run from 15 minutes (Enterprise) to 6 hours (Essential). You write formulas and build dashboards against real data — not a manual export, not a CSV someone emailed you this morning.

The AI component — referred to simply as "AI" in Equals' documentation — is an agent embedded in the spreadsheet. Ask it in plain English: "Build me a dashboard showing monthly recurring revenue by cohort." It creates the spreadsheet structure, writes the formulas, and pulls the data. Each plan includes a monthly AI spend allowance (USD $250 on Essential, $500 on Business, $1,000 on Enterprise) with usage-based overage after that.

The product also includes Infinity (no row limits for large datasets), Writeback (push data changes back to your CRM from inside the spreadsheet), and Dashboards that push automatically to Slack.

Every new customer gets a Forward Deployed Analyst — a human from Equals' team who configures your first reports, handles the data connection setup, and delivers a handful of working dashboards within a week of onboarding.

What it costs in Australia

Plan USD/year AUD/year ex-GST (approx.)
Essential USD $24,000 ~AUD $33,600
Business USD $36,000 ~AUD $50,400
Enterprise USD $60,000 ~AUD $84,000

Converted at USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026) and shown ex-GST. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; an unregistered buyer should allow ~10% on top. Confirm the rate and the tax line at time of purchase.

All plans include: - Unlimited viewers and editors - Forward Deployed Analyst (implementation service) - AI agent with included spend allowance (see below) - Dashboards, Slack push, core spreadsheet

Essential (AUD ~$40,920/year inc. GST): 3 data connectors, 6-hour data refresh, AUD ~$388/month included AI spend. Business (AUD ~$61,380/year inc. GST): 5 connectors or 1 data warehouse, 1-hour refresh, Writeback, Infinity, AUD ~$775/month included AI spend. Enterprise (AUD ~$102,300/year inc. GST): Unlimited connectors or warehouse, 15-minute refresh, Enterprise SSO, AUD ~$1,550/month included AI spend.

Additional connectors beyond the plan's included count cost USD $199/month (databases and scripts) or USD $699/month (other). Implementation beyond the included allowance is USD $5,000 per 10 hours.

There is a free trial, but access is gated — you must book a demo call. There is no self-serve signup. This is a sales-led product.

How it works in practice

The spreadsheet interface looks like a modern Excel — familiar grid, formula bar, named cells. The difference is visible immediately: instead of typing =SUM (A1:A12) against static data, you're writing queries against a live Salesforce pipeline or a BigQuery warehouse. The spreadsheet recalculates when the data source refreshes.

Building a dashboard in Equals involves three steps: choose your data source, write or generate the queries, design the layout. The AI agent shortcut is to describe what you want in plain English — "show me daily ARR for the last 90 days with a 7-day moving average" — and let the agent build the structure. Users at Notion, Descript, and Superhuman have been cited in testimonials praising this workflow. The Head of Accounting at Notion described it as saving "at least an hour or two every week."

The Writeback feature is notable for sales and revenue ops teams: you can edit a record in Equals — change a deal stage, update a renewal date — and that change pushes back to Salesforce or HubSpot automatically. This makes Equals a live operating interface, not just a reporting dashboard.

In practice, the onboarding investment is real. Connecting a data warehouse, getting the sync configured correctly, and building initial dashboards takes time even with the Forward Deployed Analyst. Most customers see working dashboards within a week, but the setup complexity is higher than a plug-in-and-go BI tool.

What it does well

The live data model is genuinely powerful. Equals eliminates the "export, paste, calculate, present" loop that wastes hours in most finance and revenue ops teams. The data is always current. Dashboards sent to Slack reflect the same data as the spreadsheet.

Spreadsheet familiarity reduces the learning curve. Teams that know Excel can pick up Equals far faster than they'd adopt a purpose-built BI tool like Tableau or Looker. The cognitive overhead of a new interface is replaced by the cognitive overhead of connecting data sources — a one-time setup cost.

The AI agent is among the better implementations in BI. Asking a plain-English question and getting a working dashboard back is more useful here than in most AI-assisted analytics tools because Equals' AI has access to live, structured business data — not just generic document analysis.

SOC 2 Type II certified. Equals holds SOC 2 Type II certification, which verifies that their security controls have been independently audited over time. For Australian businesses with security procurement requirements, this is an important credential.

Xero is a native connector. For the many Australian businesses running on Xero, a native direct connection — rather than a CSV export — is a meaningful practical advantage.

The Forward Deployed Analyst is unusually honest onboarding. Instead of pointing you at a help centre, Equals sends a human to build your first dashboards. This is a high-cost model that's reflected in the price, but it materially reduces the time to first value.

What it doesn't do well

The price is prohibitive for most Australian businesses. AUD $40,920 per year (Essential plan, inc. GST) puts Equals well outside the budget of the typical small-to-medium Australian business. It is priced for Series A-plus SaaS companies with professional finance and revenue ops teams. A Melbourne tradies business, a regional law firm, or an e-commerce shop under AUD $5M revenue has no business case here.

Sales-led only. No public self-serve trial. No pricing transparency until you've spoken to someone. For Australian buyers accustomed to a 14-day free trial before committing to anything, the friction is high.

No Australian data region. Equals is a US company with US-based infrastructure. Data is processed and stored in the United States. The privacy policy confirms SOC 2 Type II certification and encryption at rest, but does not offer an Australian or Asia-Pacific data region. For Australian businesses subject to the Privacy Act 1988, uploading personal information about customers — even embedded in financial records — triggers APP 8 cross-border disclosure obligations. Revenue and financial data that contains identifiable customer details requires careful assessment before connecting to Equals. Aggregate financial metrics without personal information carry lower risk. Get legal advice if in doubt.

Setup complexity requires technical and IT involvement. Connecting to Snowflake, BigQuery, or Salesforce is not a task for a business owner without technical help. The Forward Deployed Analyst helps, but the initial data architecture decisions require someone who understands your data model. For a small team without a technical co-founder or data engineer, this is a real barrier.

Connector limits on Essential plan. The Essential plan allows only 3 connectors. A business running Xero, Salesforce, and Stripe — which covers accounting, CRM, and billing — has already used all three connectors before adding any analytics platform. Adding another connector costs USD $199–$699/month extra.

Evolving product with occasional limitations. User reviews note that the product is still maturing, with occasional missing features, copy-paste issues, and a learning curve for less technical users.

Australian fit

Equals serves a specific Australian company: a well-funded startup or growth-stage company with a RevOps, Finance, or Growth function, running a SaaS or subscription model, whose team already uses Salesforce or HubSpot and Stripe or Paddle, and who needs live revenue reporting rather than monthly Excel updates.

That company exists in Australia — in Melbourne CBD startup offices, in Sydney CBD fintech teams, in Brisbane SaaS companies scaling into the US market. For that customer, Equals is a legitimate and competitive option.

For everyone else — the vast majority of Australian businesses — Equals is not the right tool. The price alone rules it out, before even considering the offshore data storage and sales-led onboarding.

Privacy Act 1988 note: The Australian Privacy Principles apply to any personal information you process. Revenue data in a SaaS platform typically includes customer names, company names, contact emails, and subscription details. Before connecting Equals to a Salesforce or HubSpot instance containing personal information, assess your APP 8 obligations. Equals' SOC 2 Type II certification and contractual data processing terms provide a reasonable starting point for that assessment, but they do not substitute for legal advice on your specific situation.

GST: Annual plans are billed in USD. Australian businesses should expect 10% GST to be added at invoice for subscriptions exceeding the GST low-value threshold. Confirm GST treatment with Equals at time of contract.

Alternatives

  • Power BI Copilot — Microsoft's BI platform with embedded AI, available from AUD $14.30/user/month as part of Microsoft 365. Significantly more accessible for Australian SMBs. Weaker on the live spreadsheet experience, but far broader deployment.
  • Looker Studio — Google's free BI/dashboard tool. No AI agent, but connects to many of the same data sources and costs nothing. Better for reporting consumers than for revenue analysts who want to build models.
  • Hex — notebook-based analytics with collaborative SQL and AI assistance. More technical than Equals, but less expensive and better suited to teams with a data analyst on staff.
  • Rows — AI-powered spreadsheet with live data integrations, priced more accessibly (from USD $24/month). Less powerful for enterprise data volumes but more appropriate for smaller Australian businesses.

Bottom line

Equals is a legitimate BI tool that genuinely works, has a credible enterprise customer base, and delivers real value for the specific team it's built for: revenue ops, finance, and growth professionals at scaling SaaS companies. The AI agent is better than most competitors. The spreadsheet metaphor makes adoption faster than traditional BI tools. The Forward Deployed Analyst reduces time-to-value.

None of that changes the fundamental fact: it starts at AUD $40,920 per year, requires a sales call to access, stores data in the US, and is designed for a very specific type of company.

If you run a scaling Australian SaaS startup with a RevOps team and Salesforce or HubSpot as your CRM, Equals is worth a demo call. If you're a small Australian business operator looking for analytics help, look at Power BI Copilot or Rows first.

Update history
  • 9 Oct 2026 — Re-checked for the AUD-claim queue (#481), equals.com/pricing read on an Australian connection: Essential US$24,000, Business US$36,000 and Enterprise US$60,000 a year stand (with US$250, US$500 and US$1,000 a month of included AI spend respectively), every tier still "Get a demo", bare $, no AUD — the table holds and aud_native: false stands. Capture: Dossiers/captures/equals-pricing-2026-10-09.txt.
  • 21 Sep 2026 — A duplicate AUD column removed — the 6 September re-basing rebased the GST column instead of deleting it. The table carried two AUD columns holding identical figures, under a header that still described the second as a 10% gross-up. Every figure in it was already the ex-GST conversion, so no number changed; the column said something the column did not contain. Under our GST rule our conversions are shown ex-GST and the GST position is stated in words once, so the surviving column is headed ex-GST at USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026). Two further defects in the same file. The footnote said the figures were ex-GST and then, one sentence later, that “Australian businesses should expect 10% GST added at checkout for Australian Business Numbers” — the exact opposite of the ATO rule our GST treatment rests on, and in the same paragraph. And the “is Equals suitable for small business?” answer priced Essential at AUD $36,960 (ex-GST) — the grossed-up figure wearing an ex-GST label — against the AUD $33,600 the table and the pricing FAQ both give; corrected in the answer and its JSON-LD twin. No USD price moved and no score changed. Superseded figure kept visible per our price-history rule; reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.
  • 21 Sep 2026 — The Essential plan's “approximately AUD $36,960 if GST is charged” removed from the FAQ and its JSON-LD twin. The ex-GST figure in the same sentence, AUD $33,600 for USD $24,000, is unchanged, and the Business and Enterprise plans in the next sentence were already labelled ex-GST — so one answer gave the entry plan two Australian prices and the tiers above it one. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; an unregistered buyer should allow ~10% on top. No USD price moved and no score changed. Superseded figure kept visible per our price-history rule; reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Equals cost in Australia?

Equals pricing starts at USD $24,000 per year for the Essential plan. At the September 2026 exchange rate of approximately AUD 1.40 to the USD, this equates to roughly AUD $33,600 per year ex-GST. The Business plan is USD $36,000/year (~AUD $50,400 ex-GST) and Enterprise is USD $60,000/year (~AUD $84,000 ex-GST). All pricing is annual and requires a sales call — there is no public self-serve signup.

Does Equals store data in Australia?

Equals is a US company and does not offer an Australian or Asia-Pacific data region as of June 2026. Data is processed and stored in the United States. Equals holds SOC 2 Type II certification, which provides independent verification of its security controls. For Australian businesses subject to the Privacy Act 1988, uploading personal information about customers to Equals triggers cross-border disclosure obligations under APP 8. Aggregate financial and operational data without personal identifiers carries lower privacy risk. Get legal advice before connecting systems that contain personal information.

Is Equals suitable for small Australian businesses?

No. Equals is designed for and priced for scaling SaaS startups and growth-stage companies with dedicated finance and revenue ops teams. Its entry price of approximately AUD $33,600 per year (ex-GST) is well beyond the budget of most Australian small businesses. Small businesses looking for AI-assisted data analysis should consider tools like Looker Studio (free), Rows (from approximately AUD $37/month), or Power BI Copilot (from approximately AUD $14.30/user/month).
