ElevenLabs vs WellSaid Labs for Australians — which AI voice tool wins in 2026
Our pick: ElevenLabs. The verdict below says who should buy the other.
Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).
Editor's note: Every pricing and feature claim below is carried from our full reviews of ElevenLabs (19/25, reviewed 3 June 2026) and WellSaid Labs (13/25, reviewed 3 June 2026), each anchored to the vendors' own pricing pages. AUD figures convert at the editorial standard AUD ≈ 1.40 × USD, ex-GST. See our Methodology.
If you make videos, training modules, podcasts or ads in Australia and you want an AI voice, two names keep coming up: ElevenLabs, the one that sounds the most human, and WellSaid Labs, the one corporate teams trust for clean training narration. They are not the same product, and they are not for the same buyer.
We've reviewed both in full. ElevenLabs scores 19/25; WellSaid scores 13/25. But the score gap doesn't tell you which to buy — it tells you ElevenLabs is the stronger all-round tool. The sharper question is which one fits the work you actually do. For a solo Melbourne creator making the occasional ad, the answer is obvious. For a learning-and-development team pushing out 100-plus hours of English training audio a year, it's less so.
Here's the honest head-to-head.

Neither tool can wear five stars or be named the category Top Pick: under our Australian Fit gate, an Excellent rating and a Top Pick both require Australian Fit ≥ 4/5, and both tools score 2/5. ElevenLabs is the better tool for Australians to use, but its weak local posture caps it at four stars.
What both tools do
Both turn a typed script into spoken voiceover. You paste your words, pick a voice from a library, generate, and download the audio. Neither needs a studio, a microphone, or a voice actor on a day rate. Both include commercial rights on their paid plans, so the output is yours to ship in client work and paid courses. Both are run by US-headquartered companies, bill in US dollars, and add GST at an Australian checkout.
That's where the overlap ends. ElevenLabs chases expressiveness and range — the most natural read, directable emotion, voice cloning, 70-plus languages, and a developer API for voice agents. WellSaid chases consistency — the same clean corporate narrator across an entire course library, with a shared team workspace and a security posture built for risk-conscious buyers. One is a Swiss-army voice tool; the other is a corporate narration appliance.
Pricing in Australia — the real numbers
Both are priced in USD with no AUD displayed anywhere. The figure on your card is the USD price, plus your bank's FX rate, plus roughly 10% GST at checkout. Here's the all-in comparison at the editorial standard rate.
| Tier | ElevenLabs | WellSaid Labs |
|---|---|---|
| Free / trial | Free — ~10,000 credits (~10 min)/mo, no card | 7-day trial, all features, no downloads |

Sources: elevenlabs.io/pricing · wellsaid.io/ai-voice-pricing. AUD ≈ 1.40 × USD, ex-GST. ElevenLabs figures are ex-GST estimates; WellSaid figures include the ~10% GST estimate as published in our review. Confirm the GST line and ABN reference on your first invoice before claiming the credit back.
The pricing takeaway: these tools aren't close on entry cost. ElevenLabs lets you test for free, then start cloning and shipping commercial work for about AUD$8 a month. WellSaid's cheapest real plan is roughly AUD$77 a month for a single English-only seat — and its trial won't even let you download a test file, so you can't ship anything before you pay. WellSaid's pricing only makes sense at team scale, where five people sharing the Business plan at around AUD$224 a month and producing well over 100 hours of English training audio a year start to justify the spend per hour.
One honest flag on each. ElevenLabs uses a credit model, so spend tracks usage rather than a flat seat — a heavy month of long-form narration can drain the Creator allowance and push you toward the dearer Pro tier. And on WellSaid: vendor pricing pages in this category move often, and at the time of writing WellSaid's published individual tiers appear to differ from the structure our June review captured. Treat the AUD$85 Creative figure as the review's anchor and confirm the current plan name and price on the pricing page before you commit — the Business plan at USD$160 a month annual is the stable team number.
Where ElevenLabs wins
- Voice quality. On the same script, ElevenLabs reads less robotically than WellSaid — or any rival we tested. If naturalness is the deciding factor, this is the benchmark.
- Australian accent. ElevenLabs offers genuine Australian-English voices, the strongest local-accent handling in the category. WellSaid has one token AU voice and no broader localisation — for Australian purposes it's a US-accented product with a single local option.
- Languages. Eleven v3 supports 70-plus languages on standard plans. With WellSaid you get English, full stop, unless you enter an Enterprise sales conversation.
- Voice cloning. Instant cloning lands at Starter (~AUD$8), professional cloning at Creator (~AUD$31), both with commercial rights. Cloning isn't WellSaid's pitch at all.
- Direction and range. Eleven v3's inline audio tags let you steer emotion, pacing and delivery inside the script, plus multi-voice dialogue. WellSaid is deliberately even and flat — the opposite design choice.
- A real free tier and a developer story. You can judge ElevenLabs tonight for nothing, and its public API, voice agents and dubbing make it credible for product builders, not just video creators.
Our reviews score this gap precisely: ElevenLabs takes Feature Depth 5/5 against WellSaid's 3/5, and Value for Money 4/5 against WellSaid's 2/5.
Where WellSaid wins
- Consistency over time. WellSaid's voices don't drift. The narrator you pick for module one sounds identical in module twelve, recorded weeks apart — which matters enormously for a course library edited piecemeal across a year. It's WellSaid's single strongest card.
- Clean corporate reads. The default output is broadcast-safe and even-toned: no theatrics, no weird emphasis. Exactly what e-learning and internal comms want, and not what ElevenLabs is tuned for.
- Team workflow. The Business plan's shared workspace, commenting, multiple export formats (WAV, OGG, SRT/VTT captions) and Adobe Express and Premiere integrations make it a genuine team tool, not a single-user app with extra seats.
- Enterprise-grade security posture. WellSaid is SOC 2 Type 2 certified and GDPR-compliant, with SSO and dedicated support on Enterprise. For a risk-conscious corporate buyer, that ticks boxes ElevenLabs is quieter about.
Both tools tie on Ease of Use at 4/5 in our reviews — neither is hard to drive. The difference is what comes out the other end, and who's standing around the editor.
Australian fit
This is where the international reviews go quiet, and where both tools share the same weakness.
Neither offers Australian data residency. ElevenLabs runs US, EU and India regions only — and EU residency plus Zero Retention Mode are Enterprise-only, so a solo creator or small business gets neither. WellSaid advertises no AU hosting region at all; its SOC 2 and GDPR credentials help a compliance review but are not the same thing as local data residency. If AU data residency is a hard requirement, no tool in this category clears that bar today.
Both bill in USD with GST bolted on at checkout, and neither publishes clear Australian GST guidance. Confirm the GST line and an ABN reference on your first invoice if you intend to claim the credit. Neither has an AU office, AU business hours or a local phone line — support is documentation and help centre (ElevenLabs) or email and live chat by tier (WellSaid).
The one place they part ways on local fit is accent. ElevenLabs treats Australian English as a real output with genuine local voices; WellSaid offers a single token AU voice and no localisation worth paying for. It's not enough to lift either tool's Australian Fit above 2/5 in our scoring — the USD billing, missing data residency and absent local support drag both down — but for a creator whose audience is Australian, ElevenLabs' accent handling is the difference that's audible in the finished file.
A note on voice cloning and privacy. Cloning a real person's voice — your own, a staff member's, a client's — is a consent and privacy question under Australia's Privacy Act, and the data is processed offshore by a US vendor with no local region. Take that seriously before you clone anyone. This is general information, not legal advice; if you're cloning voices commercially or at scale, get advice from a qualified professional on consent and privacy obligations.
Decision framework — if you're X, pick Y
If you're a solo creator, marketer or small-business owner making ads, social clips, explainers or the occasional video — pick ElevenLabs. It's cheaper to start (free, then ~AUD$8), it sounds the best, it speaks with a real Australian accent, and it'll clone a brand voice on a cheap tier. WellSaid's roughly AUD$77-a-month English-only single seat does less for more.
If you run a learning-and-development team or corporate video studio producing high volumes of English training narration — pick WellSaid Labs. Consistency across a course library, the shared team workspace, the export formats and the SOC 2 posture are exactly what this job needs, and the Business plan at ~AUD$224 a month across five seats is reasonable at that volume. ElevenLabs can do the work, but you're paying for expressiveness you don't need and managing a credit meter you'd rather not.
If you need voices in any language other than English — pick ElevenLabs, and it isn't close. 70-plus languages on standard plans versus an Enterprise sales call just to get a French read.
If voice quality is the single thing that matters — pick ElevenLabs. Nothing in this category sounds more natural.
If predictable, flat monthly budgeting matters more than the last 5% of naturalness — neither is ideal (ElevenLabs meters credits; WellSaid prices for teams), and our voice roundup points you to Murf instead.
If Australian data residency is a hard requirement — neither. No tool in this category clears that bar today. Read our voice roundup for the current state of play.
Verdict
This isn't a close call on overall quality, and it isn't meant to be. ElevenLabs is the better tool for almost every Australian reading this — it scores 19/25 to WellSaid's 13/25 because it sounds more natural, handles an Australian accent properly, speaks 70-plus languages, clones voices, and starts at roughly AUD$8 a month against WellSaid's AUD$85. For a Melbourne creator, marketer or founder, ElevenLabs is the buy. Just keep half an eye on the credit meter.
WellSaid wins one specific bracket, and wins it cleanly: high-volume English corporate narration where consistency, team workflow and a SOC 2 security posture matter more than range. If that's you — an L&D team, a corporate comms function, a training studio — WellSaid earns its place and the score gap is beside the point.
Neither tool can be the category Top Pick under our Australian Fit gate: both score 2/5 on local fit, both bill in USD with GST on top, and neither offers Australian data residency. ElevenLabs is the best voice for Australians to use; it isn't five stars because it doesn't yet treat Australia as more than another USD market. WellSaid is narrower still. For most of our readers, the honest answer is ElevenLabs for the work and Murf if you want a calmer bill — and WellSaid only if you're running English corporate narration at team scale.
Frequently asked questions
Are ElevenLabs and WellSaid Labs available in Australia?

Do they charge in AUD?
No. Both bill in USD with no AUD displayed, shown ex-GST at an Australian checkout. AUD figures are estimates at ~1.40 — confirm the GST line and ABN reference on your first invoice before claiming the credit.
Is there a free tier?
ElevenLabs has a real free tier — about 10 minutes a month, no card, enough to judge it tonight. WellSaid offers only a 7-day trial that won't let you download a test file, so you can't ship anything before you pay.
Which is cheaper in AUD?
ElevenLabs, by a wide margin. It starts around A$8/month (Starter) with cloning and commercial rights, versus WellSaid's cheapest real plan at about A$77/month for a single English-only seat. WellSaid only makes sense at team scale.
Which AI voice tool should I pick?
ElevenLabs for most Australians — it sounds the most natural, has genuine Australian-accent voices, speaks 70-plus languages and clones voices cheaply. Pick WellSaid Labs only for high-volume English corporate L&D, where consistency, team workflow and its SOC 2 posture matter. Neither can be category Top Pick at AU Fit 2/5.
For legal, finance, HR or medical voiceover content, remember that an AI voice tool produces audio, not advice — verify the script itself with a qualified professional before you publish.
