Skip to the verdictPricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).
Verdict (TL;DR): Qodo is the most serious AI code review platform available in 2026. It runs context-aware automated review on every pull request, enforces team-defined standards via a rules engine, and integrates with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps. Named a Gartner Magic Quadrant Visionary in 2025 and recognised by Anthropic, the product has substance behind the positioning. For Australian development teams shipping at high velocity — especially those using AI-generated code that needs proper review — it addresses a genuine gap. The entry price of $30/month for teams up to 30 is reasonable. The core limitations are US data routing, no meaningful free individual tier, and an Enterprise paywall on the features that matter most for regulated environments.

What Qodo is
Qodo began as CodiumAI, founded in 2022 in Tel Aviv by Itamar Friedman (former Alibaba AI lab director, Israel) and Dedy Kredo. It raised $11 million in seed funding in 2023 and $40 million Series A in September 2024, led by Susa Ventures and Square Peg (the latter an Australian-founded firm active in Israel and the US). It rebranded to Qodo in September 2024. Qodo 2.0 launched in February 2026 with a multi-agent code review architecture and an expanded Context Engine.
Qodo's premise is straightforward: AI coding assistants are generating code faster than humans can review it properly. PR review queues are growing. Standards drift. Bugs slip through. Qodo is the automated first-pass reviewer that catches issues before a human even opens the PR.
The platform has three main components:
- Git Plugin — integrates with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps to review every pull request automatically. Posts inline comments, identifies bugs, flags standard violations, and generates review summaries.
- IDE Plugin — integrates with VS Code and JetBrains for in-editor code quality feedback before code is committed.
- CLI Plugin — runs Qodo as a terminal agent for pre-commit or CI/CD pipeline use.
The engine driving all three is the Context Engine: multi-repository codebase intelligence that lets Qodo evaluate changes in the context of the full project, not just the lines in the diff. The Rules System lets teams define their own standards — naming conventions, security patterns, documentation requirements — and enforce them automatically on every PR.
As of June 2026, Qodo 2.4 is current, adding cross-repo review, mined rules (learning standards from your PR history), and skill governance.
What it costs in Australia
Pricing from qodo.ai/pricing (accessed 26 June 2026). USD converted at approximately 0.645 USD per AUD. GST is an additional obligation for Australian businesses.
| Plan | USD/month | AUD/month (approx, ex-GST) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trial (Free) | $0 | $0 | Unlimited reviews, unlimited credits for 14 days. No credit card required. Full Pro Team features during trial. |
| Pro Team | $30 | ~$42.00 | For teams up to 30 users. Unlimited reviews. Credit packs available: 2,500 credits (~18 reviews/month), 5,000 credits (~36 reviews/month), 20,000 credits (~144 reviews/month). $0.012 per credit, pooled across team. Monthly billing, no commitment. |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | 30+ users. SSO/SAML, audit logs, governance analytics, advanced self-learning, BYOK (bring your own LLM keys), single-tenant SaaS or on-prem, priority support and dedicated CSM. |
How credits work on Pro Team: Credits are consumed per code review. The pricing page states credits cost $0.012 each (pooled across the team). Included credit tiers give approximately 18, 36, or 144 reviews per month depending on the pack. "Reviews" here means AI PR reviews — each PR review consumes credits based on diff size and model usage. A team doing 50 PR merges per month would likely need the 5,000-credit tier. (monitor actual usage)
No commitment on Pro Team. Month-to-month, switch credit packs anytime.
Open-source free tier. Qodo offers a free plan for public open-source projects. If your team maintains OSS, this is worth checking — qodo.ai/solutions/open-source.
GST note: Qodo is incorporated in the US (New York HQ). Australian subscribers should verify GST treatment at checkout. (confirm GST treatment at checkout)
How it works in practice
Setting up Qodo takes about ten minutes. Install the GitHub (or GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps) app from Qodo's marketplace listing, connect your repositories, and Qodo begins reviewing your next pull request automatically.
The first thing you notice is the review comment volume. On a mid-sized PR (200–500 lines changed), Qodo typically posts five to fifteen review comments covering: potential bugs, security issues, logic errors, style violations, and missing tests. The comments include code suggestions, not just observations. You can respond in the PR thread and Qodo will revise its suggestions.
The Rules System is where Qodo gets interesting. You define rules in natural language or structured formats: "All new API endpoints must have an authentication check before any database call." Qodo enforces this on every PR, automatically, without a human reviewer needing to remember to check. Version 2.4's Rule Miner can generate rules automatically by analysing your PR history — learning the standards your team already implicitly enforces, then making them explicit and automatic.
The IDE plugin provides the same feedback pre-commit, in-editor. This is the "shift-left" argument: catch issues when the developer is writing the code rather than after it reaches the PR queue. The feedback is contextual — Qodo reads the surrounding code to understand what a change is doing, not just whether it follows syntactic rules.
Cross-repo review, added in Qodo 2.4, means that a change in a shared library that breaks a contract expected by four downstream services is flagged in the PR for that library — without a human reviewer needing to know the downstream dependencies exist.
What it does well
Automated PR review that actually understands context. Generic linters flag style issues. Qodo's multi-agent architecture and Context Engine flag logic errors, security vulnerabilities, and architectural violations — and grounds each comment in the actual code change and its dependencies.
The Rules System is a genuine governance tool. For teams shipping AI-generated code at scale, the drift problem is real: AI assistants do not enforce team standards, and review queues are too long to catch everything manually. Qodo's rules-based enforcement makes standards automatic. The Rule Miner learning from PR history is a practical solution to the "rules documentation is always out of date" problem.
Gartner recognition and Anthropic partnership. Named a Visionary in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for AI Code Assistants. Recognised by Anthropic for building on Claude. Square Peg (an Australian-founded VC firm) participated in the Series A. These are credible signals for enterprise procurement teams.
No-commitment Pro Team. Monthly billing, no annual lock-in, switch credit packs anytime. This is more flexible than most enterprise SaaS in the developer tools category.
Qodo 2.0 multi-agent architecture. Multiple agents review the same PR from different angles (security, standards, logic) in parallel, which is faster and more thorough than a single-agent pass.
Open-source projects get it free. Good community citizenship.
What it doesn't do well
No meaningful free tier for individual developers. The 14-day trial is free. After that, Pro Team at $30/month is the entry point. A solo developer wanting ongoing AI code review has to pay from day one, with no perpetual free usage. Contrast with GitHub Copilot (free for individuals, free for open-source maintainers) or Cursor (free Hobby tier).
Cross-repo review and advanced governance are Enterprise-only. The features that matter most for large Australian organisations — SSO, audit logs, governance analytics, BYOK, on-prem deployment — are behind Enterprise pricing (custom, contact sales). A team that wants to run Qodo on their own infrastructure to keep code off foreign servers needs a sales conversation, not a credit card.
No on-prem for self-serve customers. Data residency is an Enterprise conversation. For Australian businesses with sensitive code, this may be a dealbreaker unless you can negotiate an Enterprise arrangement.
Credit maths is not straightforward. The "~18 reviews/month" estimate for the 2,500-credit pack is vague. PR review credit consumption varies with diff size. Teams cannot accurately budget until they have a month of data.
Israeli/US company — niche consideration. The engineering team and R&D are in Tel Aviv; the legal entity and commercial HQ are in New York. For Australian government procurement or highly regulated sectors with country-of-origin vendor policies, this is worth noting.
Australian fit
Qodo is a US-incorporated company (New York HQ) with R&D in Tel Aviv, Israel. Code review processing occurs on US infrastructure under the Pro Team plan. Data is not used for AI training under Qodo's commercial terms. The "Strict Data Retention" policy included with Pro Team controls how long data is retained.
Enterprise customers can request single-tenant SaaS or on-premises deployment, which would allow an Australian team to run Qodo within Australian infrastructure. This requires an Enterprise contract.
For Australian development teams working on commercial software without strong data residency obligations, Qodo's US data routing is the same category of trade-off as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or any other US-based AI developer tool.
For teams in regulated sectors — healthcare, financial services, government, defence — the data routing and the fact that code context is processed on US servers needs to be assessed against relevant frameworks (ISM, Essential Eight, Privacy Act, APS policies). Enterprise on-prem is the route to address this, but it is not self-serve.
Positive signals for compliance-conscious buyers: SOC 2 (audit certification visible at trust.qodo.ai), no AI training on commercial data, strict data retention, BYOK on Enterprise (control which LLM provider processes your code).
AUD pricing: Not available. USD only. At June 2026 rates, Pro Team $30 USD ≈ $42.14 AUD ex-GST per month.
| Criterion | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Australian Fit | 2/5 | US infrastructure, no self-serve data residency, USD only, Enterprise required for sensitive deployments |
Alternatives
- GitHub Copilot — Copilot's PR review features are available but less specialised than Qodo. Microsoft's enterprise data governance and Azure data residency options are stronger. Read our GitHub Copilot review.
- Amazon Q Developer — Includes code review via Amazon CodeGuru. AWS data residency in Australia (Sydney region). Better for teams already on AWS. Read our Amazon Q Developer review.
- Continue (wound down — the hosted product ended 15 July 2026; the open-source code remains) — Open-source, runs locally, BYOK. Less specialised for code review but processes nothing offshore. Read our Continue review.
Bottom line
Qodo is the right tool for engineering teams who have accepted that AI-generated code is part of their workflow and need a systematic way to review it at volume. The automated PR review, rules enforcement, and multi-agent architecture address a real and growing problem. The Gartner recognition and the Series A backing from Square Peg and Susa Ventures suggest this is not a fly-by-night product.
The 14-day free trial gives enough time to see whether Qodo meaningfully improves your PR review quality. If it does, $30/month for up to 30 developers is a reasonable price for an engineering team.
For Australian teams with strict data governance requirements: Enterprise on-prem is available, but it requires a sales conversation. Do not sign up for Pro Team if your code cannot leave Australian jurisdiction without first confirming that the Enterprise path is accessible and affordable.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a free version of Qodo for Australian developers?
Qodo offers a 14-day free trial with full Pro Team features and no credit card required. After the trial, the entry plan is Pro Team at USD $30/month (approximately AUD $42.00 ex-GST at June 2026 rates) for teams up to 30 users. There is no perpetual free individual tier, though Qodo is free for open-source projects at qodo.ai/solutions/open-source.
What is the difference between Qodo (2026) and the old Codium?
CodiumAI rebranded to Qodo in September 2024. The original products — Qodo Merge (PR review), Qodo Gen (code generation), Qodo Command (CLI agent), and Qodo Aware (codebase intelligence) — were unified into a single AI Code Quality and Governance Platform. Qodo 2.0 (February 2026) added a multi-agent code review architecture. Qodo 2.4 (June 2026) added cross-repo review, Rule Miner (learns team standards from PR history), and skill governance.
Does Qodo keep my code on Australian servers?
No. Qodo processes code review on US infrastructure under the Pro Team plan. Data is not used for AI training under commercial terms, and strict data retention policies apply. Enterprise customers can request single-tenant SaaS or on-premises deployment, which would allow code to remain within Australian infrastructure — but this requires a custom Enterprise contract, not a self-serve plan. Australian businesses with data residency obligations should contact Qodo's sales team and review their trust documentation at trust.qodo.ai.
