Verdict in one line: The best free marketing-AI deal an Australian small business can get right now — short, on-brand video without a videographer or a subscription.
⚠️ STALENESS FLAG — 5 September 2026. This first look was published 20 January 2026 and is 228 days old. It has not been re-verified against the vendor since. AI products move fast: pricing, model versions, plan names and Australian availability may all have changed. Read the verdict below as a snapshot of January 2026, not as a current recommendation. (House rule: any review over six months old carries this flag until it is updated.)
What launched
In January 2026 Google Labs added Animate to Pomelli, its experimental AI marketing tool. Animate takes any static asset Pomelli has generated — a social tile, a product image — and turns it into a short on-brand animation using Veo 3.1, Google DeepMind's video model. Launch regions: the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Australians on the launch list, for once.
What it does
Pomelli itself reads your website and builds a "Business DNA" profile — colours, fonts, tone — then generates campaign assets that match. Animate adds the video layer: one click produces a 5–15 second animated version of a static asset, holding your brand colours and type, sized for Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
Pricing for Australians
Free. Pomelli, including Animate, costs nothing — it's a Google Labs experiment. No AUD conversion, no GST question. The price you pay is the usual Labs price: your inputs help Google train its products, and the tool could change or vanish without notice.
Australian Fit
Available here at launch, free, and it builds from your site so outputs use your spelling and offers. Data goes to Google offshore, and there's no AU support channel for a Labs experiment — hence 4/5, not 5.
Early read
Good: five-second branded video used to cost real money — this is genuinely useful for time-poor operators; the Business DNA approach means outputs don't look like generic AI slop. Not so good: clips are short and you can't edit them properly; Labs products carry no SLA and a habit of disappearing; and Animate works on assets created inside Pomelli — it's not a general-purpose editor for your existing video files.
Early verdict
Use it now, while it's free. If you post to Instagram or TikTok for an Australian small business, Pomelli Animate is the fastest no-cost route to motion content that still looks like your brand. Just don't build your whole pipeline on an experiment.

Update history
- 20 Sep 2026 — Staleness check, partial. The Animate claims could not be re-verified. Pomelli's own product page returns no readable content to us. The only source this review cites —
pomelli.me— did not resolve from our machine. That domain is not a Google property, and a Google Labs product should be cited to a Google page. The Veo 3.1 engine, the 5–15 second clip length and the one-click flow therefore stand unchecked, andlast_reviewedis deliberately not bumped. Google's own launch post does confirm the rest, unchanged. Pomelli is a free Google Labs and DeepMind public beta, available in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in English. It is built on a Business DNA profile drawn from your website: tone of voice, fonts, images and colour palette. Score unchanged at 20/25. Action before publication: cite a Google source, or cut the unverifiable Animate specifics. Frequently asked questions
Is Pomelli Animate available in Australia?
Yes, from launch. The launch regions were the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, so Australians can use it day one without a VPN — rare for a Google Labs experiment.
What does Pomelli Animate cost?
Nothing. It's free, with no AUD conversion and no GST question. The usual Labs trade applies: your inputs help Google train its products, and the tool could change or vanish without notice.
What's the catch?
Clips are short (5 to 15 seconds) and can't be properly edited, and Animate only works on assets created inside Pomelli — it's not a general-purpose editor for your existing video files. There's no SLA or AU support either.
