Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).

Verdict (TL;DR): Numerous.ai does one thing well — it puts a working =AI function directly inside Google Sheets and Excel, so you can run text classification, summarisation, and content generation without leaving your spreadsheet. It's genuinely useful for simple, repetitive text tasks. But it's not a data analyst. It cannot query your data, build charts, or understand your spreadsheet's logic. The free tier is minimal, pricing in AUD adds a meaningful premium, and your data travels to US servers via OpenAI. For Australians who want to add lightweight AI to existing spreadsheet workflows, it's a reasonable pick. For anything more ambitious, look elsewhere.

What Numerous.ai is

Numerous.ai is a Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel add-in that lets you use AI directly inside spreadsheet cells. You type =AI ("Classify this as Positive, Negative, or Neutral: " & A1) and the cell returns an AI-generated result — no Python, no API key, no separate browser tab.

The company is Numerous, Inc., founded in 2023 and headquartered in San Francisco, California. It markets itself as "ChatGPT for Sheets" and is available through the Google Workspace Marketplace and as an Excel add-in.

The core promise is straightforward: use AI to fill down thousands of cells the way you'd use a formula — at scale, in the tool you already work in. Think bulk sentiment tagging, bulk category labelling, bulk content drafting, or bulk data extraction from messy text fields.

What it costs in Australia

Numerous.ai is priced in USD. There is no AUD billing. All prices below include a conversion at approximately AUD 1.40 per USD, ex-GST where applicable. GST applies to digital services sold to Australian consumers.

Plan USD/month (billed monthly) AUD approx. (ex-GST)
Trial (7 days) USD $1 ~AUD $1.40 ex-GST
Personal USD $19/month ~AUD $27/month ex-GST
Pro (up to 3 users) USD $39/month ~AUD $55/month ex-GST
Enterprise USD $10/user/month (5-user min.) ~AUD $70/month for 5 users ex-GST

Annual billing reduces pricing substantially. Billed yearly, Personal is USD $8 a month, Pro USD $24 (up to 3 users) and Enterprise USD $8 a user (USD $40 a month for 5 users), each with a USD $1 first week (read in Numerous's own page on 30 September 2026; the page advertises up to 57% off for yearly). The monthly prices above were not shown there and were not re-read.

Free tier: Numerous.ai offers 60 free tokens on signup — roughly 30,000 characters of input and output combined. That is enough to experiment but not enough to process even a modest dataset. There is no permanent free plan.

The 7-day $1 trial gives full access across all tiers, which is a reasonable way to test the tool before committing.

How it works in practice

Installation takes about three minutes. You install the add-in from the Google Workspace Marketplace (or Microsoft AppSource for Excel), grant permissions, authenticate, and you're done. No API key required — Numerous handles the OpenAI connection on its own infrastructure.

From that point, you use =AI as a cell function. You write a natural-language prompt, reference adjacent cells for context, and the add-in returns the AI result. The "fill down" behaviour works as expected — you can apply the same prompt to thousands of rows at once.

In practice, this works well for:

  • Bulk sentiment analysis of customer feedback columns
  • Classifying free-text responses into categories you define
  • Drafting short product descriptions from a SKU and specification column
  • Extracting structured values (city names, currency amounts) from messy text

Where it gets slower is when you hit your usage cap mid-batch. The tool processes cells sequentially, and on the Personal plan, a run of several hundred rows can exhaust your monthly credit allocation quickly.

The Excel integration works but is slightly less polished than the Sheets version. Some users report intermittent sync issues with the Excel add-in on Windows (based on review patterns, not primary source).

What it does well

It's genuinely easy to use. If you know how to write a formula, you can use Numerous.ai. There is no learning curve for people already comfortable in Sheets or Excel — the =AI function behaves like any other formula.

It scales repetitive text tasks. Running the same AI operation across 500 rows of data is exactly what this tool is built for. Doing the same task manually in ChatGPT would take hours; in Numerous.ai it takes minutes.

No coding or API key required. This removes a meaningful barrier for the non-technical small business owner who wants AI in their spreadsheet but does not want to touch the OpenAI API directly.

The $1 trial is honest. Full feature access for one dollar is a low-risk way to evaluate whether the tool fits your workflow before paying monthly.

What it doesn't do well

It is not a data analyst. Numerous.ai does not understand the structure of your spreadsheet. It cannot interpret a pivot table, identify trends, build a chart, or answer "what does this data tell me?" It processes text in cells — nothing more. If you need AI-assisted analysis, this is not the tool.

Free access is effectively a trial, not a tier. Sixty tokens disappear fast. Anyone expecting a permanently useful free tier will be disappointed.

Data goes to the US via OpenAI. Numerous.ai uses OpenAI's API. Your cell data is sent to OpenAI's servers in the United States for processing (no published DPA found for Numerous.ai at time of review; confirm at numerous.ai/privacy before subscribing). For Australians working with client data, personally identifiable information, or anything commercially sensitive, this warrants careful scrutiny.

The credit model can surprise you. On lower plans, processing a few hundred rows can exhaust your monthly credit faster than expected. The cost-per-row is not transparent before you run a batch.

No Australian-specific features. No AUD billing, no Australian data residency, no AU-specific support channel, no GST invoice by default.

Australian fit

Numerous.ai is a US product with no Australian presence and no AU data residency. Pricing is in USD only — add roughly 55% for the exchange rate and 10% GST on top. At AUD ~$32/month for a single user with limited credits, it competes at a price point where more capable tools exist.

The privacy situation is the most significant concern for Australian business use. Your spreadsheet data — or at minimum the content of cells you submit — is processed via OpenAI's API on US servers. This matters if you are working with:

  • Customer personal information (governed by the Privacy Act 1988)
  • Client-confidential business data
  • Health or financial records

If your use case is limited to generic, non-sensitive text tasks (classifying product categories, writing generic marketing copy from product specs), the data risk is lower. Know what you're sending before you send it.

There is no publicly available documentation indicating compliance posture against the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) (unconfirmed).

Australian Fit score: 2/5 — USD pricing only, data processed offshore via OpenAI, no AU residency, no local support.

Alternatives

If Numerous.ai's narrow focus doesn't suit your needs, consider:

  • Julius AI — conversational AI data analysis. Upload your spreadsheet and ask questions in plain English. Better for exploration and insight than cell-level text automation.
  • Rows — a browser-based spreadsheet with AI built in, including data fetching, automation, and chart generation. More capable, but a different workflow.
  • Akkio — no-code predictive analytics and data analysis. A step up in sophistication if your goal is forecasting and pattern detection rather than text processing.

Bottom line

Numerous.ai is a narrow tool that does its narrow job well. If you spend hours manually classifying, tagging, or drafting text in Google Sheets, the =AI function will save you real time. Setup is painless and the learning curve is minimal.

But know what you're buying: this is not an AI spreadsheet assistant, not a data analyst, and not a tool for sensitive Australian business data. It is a text-processing add-in for your existing spreadsheet, and it stops being good value the moment you need it to do anything more than that.

At AUD ~$32/month for a single user with limited credits, it's worth the $1 trial but needs to prove its value before you commit to a subscription.

Update history
  • 30 Sep 2026 — re-verified by browser; negative confirmed, annual prices confirmed. numerous.ai/pricing redirects to the home page, whose plan section is in the markup but hidden. It gives the yearly prices: Personal $8, Pro $24 and Enterprise $8 a user a month ($40 for 5 users), each with a $1 seven-day trial. The annual note, which said "reportedly", now cites the vendor; the Enterprise AUD cell (A$85 "inc. GST", an old-basis figure) now reads ~A$70 ex-GST. Monthly prices were not on the page and were not re-read. Bare $, no A$. aud_native: false already set. Score unchanged.
