NeuronWriter Review Australia 2026: Cheaper Than Surfer, But Is It Easier?
- From
- A$32/mo · ex-GST · billed in USD (US$23)
The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.
Skip to the verdictPricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).
Verdict (TL;DR): NeuronWriter does one job well — it tells you what to put in an article so Google ranks it, then helps you write it. At US$23/mo (~A$32 conversion; GST treatment unconfirmed) for the entry plan, it undercuts Surfer SEO heavily, and a 7-day trial on Gold-plan terms lets you test it first. The catch: USD-only billing, no Australian data residency, and a workflow that takes a few sessions to click. A smart pick for AU content marketers and bloggers chasing organic traffic on a budget — not a fit for anyone who wants a polished, AU-aware writing assistant out of the box.

What NeuronWriter is
NeuronWriter is a content optimisation tool for SEO. You give it a target keyword, it scans the pages already ranking on Google for that term, and it builds you a brief: the terms, questions, and topics your article needs to cover to compete. As you write, a live score tells you how well you're covering them.
It is made by CONTADU, a Polish content-intelligence company based in Zamość, established in 2018 (NeuronWriter homepage). The platform leans on Natural Language Processing (NLP) — it rewards covering a topic thoroughly in context, not stuffing a keyword in 40 times.
There's also a built-in AI writer called NEURO that drafts sections, outlines, and intros inside the editor. NeuronWriter routes that to current third-party models — GPT-5, GPT-5-mini, Claude Sonnet 4.5, and Gemini Flash 2.0 (NeuronWriter model FAQ).
Think of it less as a writing app and more as an SEO co-pilot that happens to write. It competes directly with Surfer SEO, Frase, and Scalenut.
What it costs in Australia
NeuronWriter bills in US dollars only. There is no AUD billing option and no AU pricing page. The figures below are from the official pricing page (NeuronWriter pricing); the AUD column is our own conversion at ~1.40, shown ex-GST. Whether GST is actually charged is not shown at checkout (see the GST note below), so treat the AUD figures as an indicative conversion, not a GST-inclusive quote.
| Plan | USD/mo (monthly) | ~A$/mo (ex-GST) | Projects | Analyses | AI credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | US$23 | ~A$32 | 2 | 25 | 15,000 |
| Silver | US$45 | ~A$63 | 5 | 50 | 30,000 |
| Gold | US$69 | ~A$97 | 10 | 75 | 45,000 |
| Platinum | US$93 | ~A$130 | 25 | 100 | 60,000 |
| Diamond | US$117 | ~A$164 | 50 | 150 | 75,000 |
Annual billing cuts roughly 20% — Bronze drops to US$19/mo (~A$27), Gold to US$57/mo (~A$80). There's a 7-day free trial on Gold-plan terms and a 30-day refund on a first purchase. There is no permanent free plan. A one-off lifetime deal has run intermittently — both direct from NeuronWriter and as a code-stack listing on AppSumo, which showed it sold out on 29 September 2026 (AppSumo listing). Pricing on it shifts by channel and tier and the vendor has signalled it may be retired, so confirm the current terms at checkout rather than relying on a figure quoted second-hand.
GST note: as a Polish-based vendor with USD billing, GST treatment is not displayed at checkout. AU businesses should treat this as an imported digital service and check whether reverse-charge GST applies — speak to your accountant. There is no Australian Business Number tax invoice on offer here.
How it works in practice
The loop is: type a keyword, run a "content writer analysis" (these are metered — Bronze gives you 25/mo), and wait roughly a minute while it scrapes the SERP. You get a draft outline, a list of recommended terms with target frequencies, the "people also ask" questions, and a target content score.
You then write in the editor — or have NEURO draft it — and watch the score climb as you cover the recommended terms. Hit the suggested range and you've got an article structured the way Google's current top results are structured.
It is not point-and-click. Beginners typically need two or three sessions before the workflow feels natural. The interface is dense — panels for terms, competitors, internal links, and plagiarism all compete for attention. Once it clicks, a 1,500-word optimised draft is realistic in well under an hour.
The AI writing is fine, not exceptional. NEURO produces serviceable SEO copy, but it's a drafting aid — you'll edit every paragraph. The model choice (you can pick GPT-5 or Claude Sonnet 4.5 in the AI Templates) lifts quality for those who tune it (model FAQ).
What it does well
- Genuinely cheap for what it is. US$23/mo (~A$32) for SERP-driven optimisation badly undercuts Surfer SEO, whose comparable tiers cost multiples of that. The 7-day trial on Gold-plan terms and a 30-day refund on a first purchase let you test it on real work.
- The NLP brief is the product, and it's solid. The recommended-terms list and content score give a non-expert a concrete target instead of vague "write good content" advice. This is where the money goes and it earns it.
- Model flexibility. Routing to GPT-5, Claude Sonnet 4.5, and Gemini means you're not locked to one ageing model, and you can pick a cheaper model (0.1 credits/word) or a premium one (1.5 credits/word) per job (model FAQ).
- Real integrations. WordPress, Google Search Console, and Shopify connections mean you can pull keyword data in and push finished posts out without copy-pasting (NeuronWriter homepage).
- Plagiarism and internal-linking built in. Both are bundled rather than bolt-on upsells.
What it doesn't do well
- No AUD billing, no AU presence. Everything is in US dollars, no GST tax invoice, and no Australian support line or hours. For an Australian business that wants a clean BAS-ready receipt, that's friction every month.
- No published data-residency commitment. The vendor is Poland-based, and neither its site nor its public privacy policy states where customer data is hosted or offers an Australian (or stated EU-only) residency option. Until you confirm the arrangement directly with NeuronWriter, don't paste client-confidential material in.
- The learning curve is real. This is not Rytr. Expect two or three sessions before it's comfortable. Time-poor operators who want instant output will bounce.
- Credit and analysis metering adds anxiety. Bronze's 25 analyses and 15,000 AI credits go quickly if you're prolific — and premium models burn 15× the credits of the cheap ones. You'll be watching a meter.
- It optimises; it doesn't strategise. It tells you how to match the current top results. It won't tell you whether a keyword is worth chasing, or build a content plan. Pair it with separate keyword research.
Australian fit
This is a global tool with thin Australian accommodation. The good news: because it's driven by live Google SERP analysis, it works perfectly well against google.com.au results — you can target Australian search intent and it'll brief you on what's ranking locally. That's more AU-relevant than tools that bake in US assumptions.
The bad news is everything around the edges. USD-only billing, no GST invoice, no AU data-residency statement, no local support. The NEURO writer has no Australian-English default — it'll happily write "optimize" and "color" unless you prompt and edit. For data-sensitive AU sectors (legal, finance, health, government content), the lack of a published residency or data-processing commitment is a genuine blocker until clarified.
It scores 2/5 on Australian Fit: it can target AU SERPs, but it makes no other concession to being used from Australia.
Alternatives
- Surfer SEO — the premium incumbent in this exact category. More polished, more expensive. If budget isn't the constraint and you want the slicker product, Surfer is the comparison to make.
- Frase — strong on SERP-based briefs and question research, with a cleaner onboarding. A good pick if NeuronWriter's interface defeats you.
- Scalenut — bundles keyword strategy and content optimisation together, which patches NeuronWriter's biggest gap (it won't plan for you).
Bottom line
If you write SEO content for Australian audiences and you want the cheapest credible way to know exactly what to put in an article, NeuronWriter is an easy recommendation. The 7-day Gold trial lets you prove it on real work before paying, and Bronze at US$23/mo (~A$32) is a serious bargain against Surfer.
Just go in clear-eyed: you're buying an SEO optimiser from a Polish vendor that bills in USD, gives you no GST invoice, makes no Australian data-residency promise, and takes a few sessions to learn. For budget-conscious AU content marketers and bloggers, that trade is worth it. For anyone wanting a hand-holding, AU-aware writing assistant — or anyone handling sensitive client data — look elsewhere.
Score
| Criterion | Score | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Value for Money | 4/5 | Undercuts Surfer heavily (Bronze US$19/mo on annual billing); 7-day Gold trial and 30-day refund. Loses one for USD-only and metered credits, and there is no permanent free plan. |
| Ease of Use | 3/5 | Powerful but dense — two to three sessions to get comfortable. |
| Feature Depth | 4/5 | NLP briefs, SERP analysis, multi-model AI writer, WordPress/GSC/Shopify, plagiarism, internal linking. |
| Australian Fit | 2/5 | Targets AU SERPs, but USD-only, no GST invoice, no AU data residency, no AU-English default. |
| Reliability & Support | 3/5 | Established 2018, active roadmap; but small vendor, no AU support, metered limits. |

A$; Polish vendor (Conti sp. z o.o.), read as USD. There is no Free plan on the page — and there was none in the 14 June 2026 Wayback capture either, so the "free tier: 1 project, 3 analyses, 20,000 credits" row was never anchored to a primary source. What exists is a 7-day free trial on Gold-plan terms and a 30-day refund. The AppSumo lifetime deal is currently sold out. Score unchanged at 16/25: Value for Money stays 4/5 on price against Surfer, but its note now says plainly there is no free plan. - 24 Sep 2026 — The AUD column was never grossed up for GST, and every word around it said it was. The header read “gross-up; GST unconfirmed” and the note beneath described a 10% uplift — while the figures themselves are plain conversions at 1.4045. Checked before changing a word: across the 63 files carrying this wording, 141 rows convert at 1.4045 and none at 1.4045 × 1.10. No figure changed here; only the description of them did. Two things were wrong beyond the arithmetic: gross-up names a tax uplift and was being used for a currency conversion, and GST unconfirmed is stale — our GST rule settled it on 5 September 2026, and a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service. No USD price moved and no score changed.
