The gate: Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.

Pricing: USD prices are converted at A$1 = US$0.6970 (RBA, 7 Oct 2026) and shown ex-GST. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).

Verdict (TL;DR): Curipod has narrowed. It now sells itself as writing practice for K–12 classes: teacher-led lessons where every student writes, gets instant AI feedback, and revises in the same period. That loop works and lifts participation. The free plan is still enough to trial. But individual Premium is US$24 a month, not the US$9 we first reported. It bills in US dollars and aligns to US and district curricula, not ACARA. Reporting and unlimited use sit behind quote-only school licences. Use the free tier for writing practice. Don't pay for it until it supports the Australian Curriculum.

Last reviewed: 8 October 2026 by Adam.

Earlier editions of this review: 20 Jun 2026 — 14/25. This is edition 2, dated 8 Oct 2026. We keep every edition so you can see how the tool and our verdict have moved — how and why.

What Curipod is

Curipod is a classroom writing-practice tool. Its homepage now leads with "Writing Practice students love" and "Teacher-led lessons aligned to your district's curriculum" (read 8 October 2026). Students read a prompt, write, get immediate AI feedback, then reflect and revise. The teacher runs the session from the front of the room.

That is a narrower product than the one we first reviewed in June. Then, Curipod led with an AI lesson-builder: type a topic and get an interactive slide deck with polls, word clouds and drawing prompts. Neither the homepage nor the pricing page mentions building a lesson from a topic any more. Treat Curipod today as a writing-feedback tool with a live classroom layer, not a general lesson generator.

The hook is still that lessons are teacher-led and together: "Not alone on a screen. Together." Every student responds, not just the few with their hands up, and the teacher gets reports and insights from each lesson.

It is made by Curipod AS, a company based in Norway. The focus is English and Language Arts writing, with limited Science and Social Studies practice on the free plan. Curriculum alignment is to US programs: the homepage lists "55+ top-rated curricula", including HMH Into Reading, Amplify CKLA, Eureka and Wonders.

What it costs in Australia

There is no AUD billing. Curipod prices in US dollars. Read from Australia on 30 September and again on 8 October 2026, its own pricing page listed four plans: Free; Premium for individual teachers at US$24 a month, or US$228 a year (US$19 a month; the page says yearly saves 21%); and two custom-quote plans, School & District and a new ELA Curriculum Alignment plan for districts. The first edition carried Premium at US$9 a month from secondary listings; that figure is withdrawn.

Plan Price (USD) Approx AUD (ex-GST) What you get
Free US$0 A$0 Weekly writing sessions that renew every week; unlimited student writers; limited ELA, Science and Social Studies practice; up to 1,000-character student responses; limited translations; basic support
Premium (individual; read 8 October 2026) US$24/mo monthly · US$228/yr (US$19/mo) yearly ~A$34/mo · ~A$326/yr (~A$27/mo) Unlimited sessions and writing practice; full test-prep libraries; text to speech; scoring against your own rubric; 2,300-character responses
School & District Custom quote — Unlimited writing sessions; full state test-prep libraries; bilingual (ESL/ELL) writing practice; classroom controls and reporting; writing reports and growth insights; priority support; district-level SSO
ELA Curriculum Alignment (districts) Custom quote — Everything in School & District, plus writing tasks mapped to the district's adopted curriculum and pacing; unlimited translations; white-glove setup; custom data privacy agreements

Pricing basis: Curipod's pricing page (curipod.com/pricing), read from Australia 30 September 2026 and re-read 8 October 2026. AUD conversions use A$1 = US$0.6970 (RBA, 7 Oct 2026), shown ex-GST; they are indicative, not billed amounts. Curipod does not state how it handles GST for Australian buyers.

How it works in practice

The loop Curipod now sells has three steps: write, get immediate AI feedback, then reflect and revise. You run a writing session from the front of the room. Students join on their own devices and answer the prompt. Each submission gets AI feedback straight away — Curipod's pricing page calls it "Glow & Grow" — and the student revises before the period ends. Afterwards you get reports and insights from the lesson; the fuller writing reports and growth tracking sit on the school plans.

On the free plan, student answers are capped at 1,000 characters, roughly 150 to 200 words. That suits a paragraph response, not a full persuasive essay. Translations are limited on Free, which matters for EAL/D students.

The honest practical read: the write-feedback-revise loop genuinely lifts participation, especially for quieter students. But the prompts, test-prep libraries and curriculum mappings are built for US classrooms. An Australian teacher will need to write or adapt prompts to fit the Australian Curriculum.

What it does well

  • Instant writing feedback in the same period. Students submit, read AI feedback, and revise on the spot, which is hard to replicate manually for 25 kids at once.
  • Every student responds. The session is built so the whole class writes, not just the few who put a hand up — a genuine classroom win.
  • Teacher-led, not a chatbot. The teacher runs the session; students are not left alone with an AI on a screen.
  • A genuinely useful free tier. Weekly writing sessions, renewed every week, with unlimited student writers, are enough to trial Curipod properly before spending anything.

What it doesn't do well

  • No AUD billing and unclear GST. Everything is in US dollars, exchange-rate exposure is yours, and there is no stated Australian tax handling for the subscription.
  • No ACARA alignment. Standards alignment is built around US and district curricula (Common Core, HMH Into Reading, Amplify CKLA and US teacher rubrics). There is no Australian Curriculum alignment, so the "standards-aligned" selling point largely doesn't apply here.
  • Premium is no longer cheap. US$24 a month (~A$34) is a real cost for a teacher paying personally (read from Australia, 8 October 2026).
  • The best features are gated to a school licence. Writing reports, growth insights, classroom controls and unlimited use sit behind a School & District licence that is quote-only — Curipod publishes no figure, so a school can't price it without a sales conversation.
  • Narrower than it was. The topic-to-lesson builder this review first assessed is no longer promoted on Curipod's homepage or pricing page. If interactive slides are what you want, Curipod no longer leads with them.
  • Content is US-flavoured by default. Prompts and test-prep material are built for US classrooms and need editing for Australian spelling, context and year-level conventions.
  • No stated Australian data residency. Curipod's public pages set out its FERPA, COPPA and GDPR compliance but name no hosting location or in-region option; we found no published Australian data-hosting commitment. For a Norway-based vendor with US-centric schools messaging, that absence is a real consideration for student data under Australian privacy expectations — schools should request Curipod's data processing agreement to confirm where responses are stored.

Australian fit

This is where Curipod is weakest. It is a capable global tool that hasn't been localised for Australia. Billing is USD-only, the curriculum scaffolding is American, and there is no published Australian data residency for student responses — which matters when the users are children and the buyer may be a school. None of that makes Curipod unusable here; plenty of Australian teachers will happily use the free tier for writing practice. The site does offer "English (Australia)" as an interface language. But "aligned to your district's curriculum" — its core pitch — refers to curricula Australian teachers don't use.

For school or district buyers, the data-handling and procurement questions (where student data is stored, GST invoicing, contract terms) would need direct answers from Curipod before signing. They are not on the website.

Alternatives

  • Canva — its AI-assisted slides and design tools suit teachers who want polished decks and already work in Canva, though it lacks Curipod's live response-and-feedback loop.
  • ChatGPT — for generating lesson plans, worksheets and writing-feedback rubrics you control and adapt to ACARA yourself, at a known AUD-convertible price, without the live classroom layer.
  • Gemini — strong for lesson-content drafting inside Google Workspace, which many Australian schools already run.

Bottom line

Curipod is now a focused writing-practice tool, and the free plan is worth a teacher's afternoon to trial. If your goal is getting every student writing and revising with instant feedback in one period, it delivers. If you came for quick AI-built interactive slides, that is no longer what Curipod sells. Treat the curriculum-alignment pitch with caution in Australia — those curricula are American — and go in knowing you'll pay in US dollars with no AUD invoice, no ACARA alignment, and no stated Australian data residency. For a solo Australian teacher: use the free tier, and don't pay US$24 a month for Premium until it supports the Australian Curriculum. For a school: get the data-residency, GST and pricing answers in writing first.

Score

Criterion Score Note
Value for Money 2/5 Free tier still useful, but individual Premium is US$24/mo (~A$34; US$19 yearly), not the ~US$9 first reported, and reporting and unlimited use need a quote-only school licence.
Ease of Use 4/5 Teacher-led sessions with a simple student join; write, feedback and revise in one flow; non-technical teachers get going fast.
Feature Depth 3/5 Solid writing feedback and whole-class participation, but narrower than before (ELA writing first; the lesson builder is no longer promoted) and US-built content.
Australian Fit 2/5 USD-only, US/district curriculum alignment, no ACARA, no stated AU data residency.
Reliability & Support 2/5 Free tier gets basic support only; priority support and reporting are school-licence gated. Uptime and SLA track record is not something we could assess from public sources.

Update history
  • 8 Oct 2026 — New edition. Was: 14/25, with Value for Money 3/5 resting on "cheap individual Premium" at about US$9 from secondary listings, and Curipod described as an AI slide-lesson builder. Now: 13/25, Value for Money 2/5. Curipod's own page showed Premium at US$24 a month or US$228 a year to an Australian visitor (30 Sep 2026; re-confirmed from Australia 8 Oct 2026). The homepage now leads with "Writing Practice students love" and no longer mentions building a lesson from a topic, so the description, the how-it-works section and the pros are rewritten around writing practice. Conversions recut at the RBA rate of 7 Oct 2026. Source: curipod.com/pricing (read from Australia 30 Sep and 8 Oct 2026) and curipod.com (re-read 8 Oct 2026). The previous edition is kept unchanged and linked above.
  • 30 Sep 2026 — re-verified by browser; negative confirmed, Premium price corrected. curipod.com/pricing on an Australian connection now shows Premium for individual teachers at $24 a month, or $228 a year ($19 a month), beside Free and two quote-only plans (School & District, and a new ELA Curriculum Alignment plan for districts). This review had carried Premium at US$9 / US$7.50 from secondary listings because the vendor page showed no price in June; the table, pricing paragraph, free-tier pro, Value for Money note, free-plan FAQ (body and schema) and sources are corrected. The free plan's allowance is now "weekly sessions, renews every week" with no number stated. The page now leads with K–12 writing practice rather than AI slide lessons. Bare $, no A$. aud_native: false set. Score held at 14/25; [RS12] (Value for Money, downward, and a check of the product description) filed. • 20 Jun 2026 — First reviewed.
  • 24 Sep 2026 — The AUD column was never grossed up for GST, and every word around it said it was. The header read “gross-up; GST unconfirmed” and the note beneath described a 10% uplift — while the figures themselves are plain conversions at 1.4045. Checked before changing a word: across the 63 files carrying this wording, 141 rows convert at 1.4045 and none at 1.4045 × 1.10. No figure changed here; only the description of them did. Two things were wrong beyond the arithmetic: gross-up names a tax uplift and was being used for a currency conversion, and GST unconfirmed is stale — our GST rule settled it on 5 September 2026, and a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service. No USD price moved and no score changed. reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Australian teachers can use it freely, but it isn't localised for the Australian system — the curriculum scaffolding is American (Common Core, US district rubrics) and there's no ACARA alignment.

Does Curipod charge in AUD?

No. Curipod (made by Curipod AS, based in Norway) bills in US dollars only, with no AUD option, so exchange-rate exposure is yours. GST handling for the offshore subscription isn't stated.

Is there a free plan?

Yes, and it's genuinely useful. The free tier gives weekly writing sessions that renew every week, with unlimited student writers — enough to trial Curipod properly before paying. Individual Premium is US$24 a month, or US$228 a year, on Curipod's own pricing page (read from Australia, 8 October 2026).

Is student data stored in Australia?

No stated Australian data residency. Curipod lists FERPA, COPPA and GDPR compliance but names no hosting location or in-region option. For student data, schools should request Curipod's data processing agreement to confirm where responses are stored before signing.

Who is Curipod best for?

A solo Australian teacher who wants every student writing and revising with instant AI feedback, on the free tier. For school or district buyers, get the data-residency, GST and pricing answers in writing first — they're not on the website.
