Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).

Verdict (TL;DR): Cognism is the most compliance-serious B2B contact data platform in this category. It is the only major player to explicitly screen its telephone database against the Australian Do Not Call Register, and its Diamond Data product — phone-verified mobile numbers checked by human operators — genuinely delivers higher connect rates than scraped databases. Those are real differentiators. The honest catches for Australian buyers are equally real: Cognism's strength is EMEA, particularly the UK. Its APAC contact coverage — including Australia — lags behind its European database in volume, freshness, and accuracy. Pricing is entirely sales-led, starting around AUD$21,000–$39,000 per year for small teams, with no published rates and aggressive renewal increases. This is a platform for well-funded outbound teams selling into European or US markets that want a compliance-first stance. For an Australian SME prospecting locally, the price-to-coverage ratio is hard to justify.

What Cognism is

Cognism is a B2B sales intelligence platform founded in 2016, headquartered in London. It is now one of the largest independent B2B data vendors in Europe, with over 440 million contacts and 100 million mobile numbers in its database, and claims the largest set of phone-verified mobile numbers of any data vendor through its Diamond Data product.

The company's defining position is compliance. Where competitors treat data privacy as a checkbox, Cognism built it into the product architecture: Article 14 GDPR notifications are embedded in reveal flows, the database is screened against Do Not Call registries in 15+ countries (including Australia, New Zealand, the UK, US, Germany, and France), and the company holds ISO 27001, ISO 27701, and SOC 2 certifications.

The core product is contact and company data accessed via a web platform, a Chrome extension (overlaying on LinkedIn and company websites), and a Sales Navigator integration. In 2025 Cognism added Sales Companion (a unified prospecting workspace), Cortex AI (the AI layer for persona-building and account research), and Cognism Engage (a native email sequencing tool, moving the platform from data supplier to outreach engine).

Diamond Data is the product that justifies Cognism's premium pricing. Human operators physically call each mobile number before it enters the verified dataset. Cognism claims a 98% accuracy rate for Diamond Data numbers and user reviews consistently report 2–3x higher connect rates versus unverified competitors.

What it costs in Australia

Cognism does not publish pricing. You must book a demo to receive a quote. Third-party benchmarking data and publicly reported contracts put the range as follows:

Plan Estimated annual cost (USD) Approx AUD (×1.40) Notes
Grow / Standard ~$15,000–$20,000/yr platform fee + $1,500–$2,000/user/yr ~AUD$21,000–28,000 base (estimate) Email, basic mobiles, Chrome extension, CRM integrations
Elevate / Pro ~$25,000–$40,000/yr platform fee + $2,000–$2,500/user/yr ~AUD$35,000–56,000 base (estimate) Adds Diamond Data (phone-verified mobiles), Bombora intent data, on-demand verification
Enterprise Negotiated (estimate) Custom seats, credits, and SLA

These are third-party estimates based on reported contracts and benchmarking services; Cognism does not publish pricing. AUD conversions at ~1.40. Figures are ex-GST: a GST-registered business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers add ~10%. where applicable — Cognism is a UK entity and GST invoicing arrangements should be confirmed with the vendor. Annual contracts are standard. Renewal increases of 10–15% per year are commonly reported.

Onboarding fees ($500–$1,500) and intent data topic purchases ($200–$400 each) are commonly added to base contracts. Negotiation potential is significant — Vendr's benchmarking reports discounts of 28–52% from initial quotes — so treat any opening number as a starting point.

How it works in practice

The prospecting workflow is similar to other B2B data platforms: search the database by job title, company, industry, geography, and seniority; unlock the contact record (consuming a credit); export to your CRM or sequencing tool. The Chrome extension works on LinkedIn profiles and Sales Navigator, surfacing a Cognism sidebar with contact details and the option to push directly to Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, or SalesLoft.

What sets Cognism apart in practice is the quality signal. Standard records show the data and note confidence level. Diamond Data records are marked distinctly — these are the phone-verified numbers. For cold-calling-led outbound, the difference between a database number and a human-verified one is the difference between a live conversation and a dead line.

The 2025 platform additions (Sales Companion, Cortex AI) make Cognism more of an all-in-one tool than it was. Cortex can build an ideal customer profile from a plain-language description, suggest matching accounts, and draft research briefs. Engage runs email sequences natively. For EMEA-focused teams, this is increasingly a complete outbound workspace.

For Australian-focused teams, the experience degrades. APAC records in Cognism's database are fewer, older, and less likely to have Diamond Data verification. Multiple independent reviews and G2 user reports consistently flag weaker match rates and higher bounce rates for APAC contacts. This does not make Cognism useless for an Australian buyer — it makes it less compelling at its price point unless your target market is the UK, Europe, or the US.

What it does well

  • Compliance is built in, not bolted on. DNCR screening across 15+ countries including Australia and New Zealand. Article 14 notifications. ISO 27001, ISO 27701, SOC 2. This is the most credible compliance posture in the category.
  • Diamond Data is a genuine product differentiator. Phone-verified mobile numbers by human operators. 2–3x higher connect rates reported consistently in user reviews. Nothing comparable at this price point.
  • EMEA contact coverage is best-in-class. If you are targeting UK, European, or US contacts, the database quality is demonstrably ahead of Seamless.AI or Lusha for those regions.
  • Australian DNCR screening. The only major B2B data vendor confirmed to screen its Australian telephone records against the Do Not Call Register before you use them.
  • Serious sales stack integrations. Native sync with Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, SalesLoft, and Pipedrive. The Chrome extension is polished and fast.

What it doesn't do well

  • APAC/Australian contact coverage is weak. This is the central problem for local buyers. Cognism's own user reviews, independent audits, and G2 feedback consistently report fewer records, more outdated data, and missing Diamond Data verification for Australian and APAC contacts. Paying enterprise rates for EMEA-quality data when you are prospecting in Sydney or Melbourne is a poor trade.
  • No published pricing. You cannot evaluate cost without a sales call. Combined with annual contracts and renewal increases, this creates pricing opacity that favours the vendor.
  • Expensive for Australian SMEs. A starting investment of ~AUD$21,000/year before adding seats or intent data is an enterprise-level commitment. Mid-market and SME sales teams will find this hard to justify versus Apollo.io or Lusha at a fraction of the cost.
  • Add-on costs compound quickly. Onboarding fees, intent data topics, additional seats, and renewal increases of 10–15% per year mean the real two-year cost is substantially higher than the opening quote.
  • Engage (email sequencing) is new and limited. Cognism Engage was released in 2025 and is still maturing. For sophisticated multichannel sequencing, most teams still need a third-party tool like Outreach or Instantly alongside it.

Australian fit — Privacy Act, Spam Act, and DNCR exposure

Cognism has the strongest privacy compliance posture of any vendor in this category for Australian buyers — but it is not a compliance free pass.

What Cognism does. Cognism screens its telephone database against the Australian DNCR before records are served to you. It has conducted a Privacy Impact Assessment with an Australian law firm and publishes a commitment to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles. Its data processing addendum is available and addresses Australian data handling. This is materially better than any US-built competitor.

What remains your responsibility. Even with Cognism's DNCR screening, you are the entity contacting Australian individuals, and the obligations remain yours. The Spam Act 2003 requires consent, clear identification, and an unsubscribe mechanism on every commercial electronic message. Cold email to individuals — even B2B — requires either express or inferred consent. Consent records need to be maintained. The Privacy Act's Australian Privacy Principles govern how you collect, store, and use personal information obtained from Cognism's database. Planned reforms (APP 13A, automated decision-making disclosure requirements effective December 2026) add further obligations.

APAC data and data residency. Cognism is a UK entity. Data is processed in the UK and EU. There is no Australian data hosting. APP 8 (cross-border disclosure) considerations apply. Your legal counsel should review the Data Processing Addendum for your specific circumstances.

The honest read: Cognism is the lowest-risk starting point in this category for an Australian buyer from a compliance perspective. It is not a compliance solution — it is a data vendor with a better-than-average compliance posture. The buyer still carries the obligations.

Alternatives

  • Apollo.io — dramatically lower entry cost, a functional free tier, and a broader feature set including sequencing and a dialer. Less rigorous on compliance; better on price.
  • Lusha — a self-serve model with published pricing and a genuine Australian Privacy Act compliance statement. Weaker on data depth, but accessible for smaller teams.
  • Clay — an enrichment orchestration layer that can pull from multiple data sources including Cognism's API. More technical to set up, but flexible for teams that want best-of-breed data per geography.

Bottom line

Cognism is the right choice if: you are a well-resourced outbound team, your primary market is the UK or Europe, compliance is non-negotiable, and you are selling something where a higher connect rate on phone is worth AUD$21,000+ per year in infrastructure cost. It is not the right choice if: you are an Australian SME prospecting locally, you need transparent pricing before committing, or you want to evaluate the tool without a sales conversation. The compliance pedigree is real. The APAC coverage gap is equally real. For most Australian buyers reading this, Apollo.io or Lusha will deliver better value per dollar for AU-focused prospecting.

Score

Criterion Score Notes
Value for Money 2/5 Enterprise pricing with no transparency. Strong for EMEA-focused teams; poor for AU-focused SMEs relative to alternatives.
Ease of Use 3/5 Chrome extension and Sales Companion are polished. Onboarding is guided. Engage sequencing is functional but new.
Feature Depth 4/5 Diamond Data phone verification is a genuine differentiator. Cortex AI, Engage, and intent data add real breadth. EMEA feature set is best-in-class.
Australian Fit 2/5 DNCR screening and AU Privacy Act compliance statement are genuine positives. APAC coverage is weak. No AU data residency. USD pricing, no AU tax invoice. Enterprise cost is prohibitive for most AU SMEs.
Reliability & Support 2/5 Strong for EMEA customers. UK-based support. AU-specific data accuracy is inconsistent per user reports. Renewal price increases are a support friction point.
Total 13/25 ⭐⭐⭐ Good

Update history
  • 9 Oct 2026 — Re-checked for the AUD-claim queue (#495), cognism.com/pricing read on an Australian connection: still "Book a demo" with no figure in any currency, so the quote-only finding stands, the cost ranges above remain third-party estimates, and aud_native: false stands. Capture: Dossiers/captures/cognism-pricing-2026-10-09.txt.
  • 24 Sep 2026 — 1 Australian figure recut to the current basis. It was converted at about 1.56 — the retired basis — inside a column headed ex-GST whose other rows were already at 1.4045. Corrected to US$1 = A$1.4045 (Frankfurter/ECB, 18 September 2026): Elevate / Pro ~AUD$39,000–62,000 base (estimate) → ~AUD$35,112–62,000 base (estimate). No USD price moved and no score changed. reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.
  • 24 Sep 2026 — Both Australian cost ranges recut, and a correction to this publication's own earlier edit today. An automated pass this morning recut the low end of the Elevate range and left the high end, so the table briefly read ~AUD$35,112–62,000 — two exchange rates inside one range, and a false precision the US$25,000–40,000 source never carried. Both ranges are now cut whole at US$1 = A$1.4045 (Frankfurter/ECB, 18 September 2026) and rounded as the originals were: Grow/Standard ~AUD$21,000–31,000 → ~AUD$21,000–28,000, Elevate/Pro ~AUD$39,000–62,000 → ~AUD$35,000–56,000. These remain third-party estimates, not Cognism figures. No USD figure moved and no score changed. reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.
  • 24 Sep 2026 — 1 Australian figure in the prose corrected to agree with this review's own pricing table. The table was verified cell by cell earlier today; it still quoted the retired 1.55 basis, in 2 places — verdict lines, score rationales, the excerpt and the JSON-LD are where a reader actually meets a price, and a pairing check cannot see them because they name no USD figure alongside. Kept visible per our price-history rule: AUD$23,000 → AUD$21,000. The replacement values are taken from the table, not recomputed, so the two now agree exactly. No USD price moved and no score changed. reviewed: untouched per our dating rule.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cognism screen against the Australian Do Not Call Register?

Yes. Cognism explicitly screens its telephone database against the Australian Do Not Call Register (and New Zealand's equivalent) before records are served to you. This is a genuine differentiator — it is the only major B2B contact data vendor confirmed to perform this check for Australian numbers. However, the buyer remains legally responsible for compliance with the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 and the Spam Act 2003.

How much does Cognism cost in Australia?

Cognism does not publish pricing. Based on third-party benchmarking and reported contracts, a small-team Grow/Standard plan typically costs approximately USD$15,000–20,000 per year (roughly AUD$21,000–28,000) before per-seat costs. Elevate/Pro plans with Diamond Data start higher. Annual contracts are standard, and renewal increases of 10–15% per year are commonly reported. A demo call is required to receive an actual quote.

Is Cognism's Australian contact data reliable?

Cognism's EMEA (UK and European) contact coverage is generally considered best-in-class. Its Australian and broader APAC coverage is substantially weaker — multiple user reviews and independent audits report fewer records, more outdated information, and lower availability of phone-verified Diamond Data for Australian contacts. Teams primarily prospecting in Australia should test coverage carefully before committing.
