Notion Custom Agents: the credit meter is now running (May 2026)

What changed

The free ride is over. As of today, Notion's Custom Agents cost money.

Notion shipped Custom Agents to general availability with version 3.3 on 24 February, and gave everyone a free window to try them. That window ended yesterday, 3 May. From today, 4 May, Business and Enterprise plans pay US$10 per 1,000 Notion credits once their agents run.

Nothing about the feature changed. Agents still run multi-step workflows across your workspace and connected tools. What changed is the bill. A capability that was free a week ago now has a usage cost attached.

What it means for Australians

US$10 per 1,000 credits is roughly A$14.00 at our 1.40 rate. Pricing is in USD, so check the GST treatment on your invoice — Australian businesses should expect GST handled at the billing layer, not baked into the headline figure.

The harder problem is not the rate. It is predicting the spend. Credit metering bills you for what your agents do, not for seats. A quiet agent costs little. A chatty one — reading mail, posting to Slack, updating databases on a loop — can burn through credits fast, and you will not know your burn rate until you have watched it for a fortnight.

This matters most for the team that built an agent during the free trial and left it running. That agent is now a live line item. If nobody has checked it since February, today is the day to look.

Standing caveat: Notion's Australian workspaces remain hosted offshore, so an agent reading client correspondence is a data-residency decision as much as a cost one.

Does it change our recommendation?

No — but it changes the homework. Notion AI is still a capable productivity tool for Australian teams. The advice we gave in February still stands: build one useful agent, then measure its credit burn before you scale. The difference is that the meter is no longer hypothetical. Audit any agents you set up during the trial, set a budget, and treat credit spend as a monthly review item, not a set-and-forget.

We will fold real-world burn rates into our assessment of Notion AI as the figures come in.

Does this affect Australian pricing or users?

Yes. US$10 per 1,000 credits is roughly A$14.00 at our 1.40 rate. Pricing is USD, so check GST treatment on your invoice. Australian workspaces remain hosted offshore — a data-residency call, not only a cost one.

Does it change our recommendation?

No, but it changes the homework. Notion AI is still a capable productivity tool. Audit any agents built during the free trial, set a budget, and treat credit spend as a monthly review item rather than set-and-forget.
