Notion's Custom Agents go GA — free until May, then you're on the meter
Posted: 25 February 2026 · Category: Productivity & Workflow
On 24 February Notion shipped version 3.3, taking Custom Agents to general availability — autonomous agents that run multi-step workflows across your workspace, with integrations into Slack, Mail, Calendar, and MCP. They're free to try until 3 May 2026; after that, Business and Enterprise plans pay US$10 per 1,000 credits.
What changed
Notion AI has so far been an assistant you prompt. Custom Agents are different in kind: you configure them once and they act — triaging, drafting, updating databases, moving work between your tools without you in the loop. The Slack and Mail hooks are the practical unlock; an agent that can only touch Notion pages is a toy, while one that reads your inbox and posts to your team channel is a worker.
The pricing model is the other story. Credit metering means the bill tracks how much your agents do, not how many seats you have — a structure that's easy to trial cheaply and easy to be surprised by at scale.
What it means for Australians
The trial window is genuinely free until 3 May, so the smart play for Australian teams already on Notion is to build one useful agent now and measure its credit burn before the meter starts. US$10 per 1,000 credits is roughly A$14.00 at 1.40 — what that buys depends entirely on how chatty your workflows are, and nobody knows their burn rate until they've watched it for a fortnight.
The standing caveats apply: pricing is USD (check GST treatment on your invoice), and an agent with access to your mail and Slack is an access-control decision, not just a productivity one. Australian workspaces also remain hosted offshore — worth remembering before an agent starts reading client correspondence.
What we're watching
Real-world credit burn rates once the meter starts on 3 May, and whether agent pricing lands gently or becomes this year's surprise line item. We'll factor both into our assessment of Notion AI for Australian teams.
