Linear Launches Asks Agent in 2026 — Natural-Language Q&A Across Your Workspace

By Adam · 21 May 2026 · 3 min read

Linear has added a question-answering agent. On 21 May 2026 the company launched the Linear Asks Agent — an assistant that answers plain-English questions across your Linear workspace and the sources you connect to it. Ask, and it pulls the answer from your issues, projects and linked tools.

What changed

The Asks Agent lets you query your workspace in natural language instead of hunting through filters and saved views. You type a question — what's blocked, what shipped this sprint, who owns a project — and it answers from your Linear data and connected sources.

This is the second AI move from Linear this month, after its Code Intelligence work a week earlier. The direction is clear: Linear wants the answers to come to you, rather than you digging for them.

What it means for Australians

For an Australian team that already lives in Linear, this is a quality-of-life win. Less time clicking through views, faster answers in standups, easier onboarding for new starters who don't yet know where everything sits. The value is in the time it saves, not a new line on the invoice.

One thing to check before you switch it on: connected sources. The Asks Agent is only as useful — and as exposed — as the tools you wire into it. Every source you connect widens what the agent can read and surface.

So do the homework. Look at what each connected source exposes, and where that data is processed, before you enable the agent on sensitive projects. If your Linear workspace touches client records, financial detail or anything under privacy obligations, that question matters more than the convenience. This is not a knock on Linear — it is the standard check any connected AI assistant demands.

Does it change our recommendation

We have not published a full Linear review yet, so there is no rating to revise. The Asks Agent does strengthen the case for putting Linear through our scoring framework — workspace-wide natural-language Q&A is a genuinely useful pattern for AU product and engineering teams.

When we do review it, the verdict will turn on the usual measures: value, ease of use, feature depth, and Australian fit. On that last one, data residency and what connected sources expose are the things to watch. A capable feature does not earn a top score on its own — it has to serve Australians well. See our methodology for how we weigh that.

For now: if your team already runs Linear, the Asks Agent is worth trying, with the connected-source caveat above. If you don't use Linear, this alone is not the reason to switch — wait for the scored review.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Linear Asks Agent?

An assistant launched 21 May 2026 that answers plain-English questions across your Linear workspace and connected sources. Instead of hunting through filters and saved views, you ask what's blocked or what shipped this sprint, and it answers from your data.

What should Australian teams check before switching it on?

Connected sources. The agent is only as useful — and as exposed — as the tools you wire into it. Look at what each source exposes and where that data is processed before enabling it on projects touching client records, financial detail or privacy obligations.

Does it add to the bill?

The value is in time saved, not a new line on the invoice. For an Australian team already living in Linear, it's a quality-of-life win — faster standups, easier onboarding.

Does it change our recommendation?

There's no published Linear review to revise. The Asks Agent strengthens the case for scoring Linear. If your team already runs it, the agent is worth trying with the connected-source caveat; if you don't, this alone isn't the reason to switch.
