Claude Code & Cowork: What Changed in 60 Days — and What It Means for Australians
TL;DR: Anthropic spent May and June pushing its two agent products in different directions — Cowork got off-the-shelf plugins for non-technical teams, Claude Code got the heavy automation. Two new models landed underneath both. None of it changes the AUD price of a Pro or Max plan.
What changed
Two months, one clear split. Cowork — the desktop agent for knowledge work — got 11 open-source "knowledge-work" plugins in late May. Each bundles skills, connectors and sub-agents for a job function: Sales, Marketing, Finance, Legal, Customer Support and Data, among others. Connectors vary by plugin — Slack and Microsoft 365 are common, alongside tool-specific ones like HubSpot, Notion, Linear and Snowflake.
Claude Code — the developer tool — got the power features: dynamic workflows that orchestrate hundreds of sub-agents, sub-agents that spawn their own sub-agents, and /rewind to undo a cleared conversation. You can also now tag Claude directly in a Slack thread to hand off a task.
Underneath both: Opus 4.8 (28 May) and the new Fable 5 model (9 June).
Why it matters for Australians
The Cowork plugins are the story for most of our readers. A Melbourne business owner doesn't write workflow scripts — but installing a pre-built "operations" or "brand voice" plugin is a different proposition. It lowers the bar from "learn the tool" to "pick the template."
Pricing is unchanged in substance: these features sit inside existing Pro and Max subscriptions. Since September 2026 Anthropic bills Australians in AUD — Pro A$28/month on annual billing or A$34 monthly, Max from A$170.01 — and states "Prices include 10% GST", so there is nothing to add on top. Data residency is also unchanged — Anthropic processes data offshore, which still matters for any AU firm handling regulated client information.
Does this change our recommendation?
Not yet, but it sharpens the choice. Cowork is now the clear pick for non-technical Australian teams; Claude Code remains a developer tool. We've published a companion explainer on which one suits you — see below.
