Opus Clip vs Vizard (2026): Which AI Clipper Wins for Australians?

By Adam · 30 Jun 2026 · 8 min read
Head-to-head verdict

Our pick: Opus Clip. The verdict below says who should buy the other.

Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow ~10% on top (Methodology).

Verdict (TL;DR): Both tools do the same job — turn one long video into a stack of short clips. Opus Clip wins on polish, virality scoring, and its ClipAnything search. Vizard wins on price and speed. For most Australian creators, Opus Clip is the better buy. Choose Vizard only if budget is the deciding factor. Neither offers AUD billing or local data hosting.

Opus Clip: 16/25 — ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good. Vizard: 15/25 — ⭐⭐⭐ Good.

Both reviewed June 2026 by Adam. Scores carried from our full reviews.

The tension

You record long. You need to post short. That is the whole problem these two tools solve.

A podcast episode, a webinar, a long YouTube upload — one recording holds a week of social clips. Cutting them by hand takes hours. Opus Clip and Vizard both promise to do it in minutes.

They are the two names Australian creators shortlist most often. Opus Clip is the category leader, with virality scoring and reframing that feel a step more polished. Vizard is the cheaper, faster challenger with a generous free tier.

We reviewed both. Opus Clip scored 16/25. Vizard scored 15/25. One point apart — so the choice comes down to what you value. This piece settles it for the typical Australian buyer.

We are not re-scoring here. We are pitting two verdicts against each other.

What it costs in Australia

Both tools bill in US dollars only. Neither offers AUD billing or an Australian entity. Expect a foreign-transaction fee on most Australian cards, plus a moving exchange rate on every renewal.

Conversions below use the AID standard rate (AUD ≈ 1.40 × USD). GST treatment is unconfirmed for both vendors — neither states its ATO registration publicly — so treat AUD figures as indicative, not invoice-exact.

Plan tier Opus Clip (USD) Vizard (USD) Notes
Free US$0 — 60 min/mo, watermarked, 3-day storage US$0 — 60 min/mo, 720p, watermark, 3-day storage Both are trials, not working free tiers
Entry paid Starter US$15/mo — 150 min/mo Creator US$14.50/mo annual (~A$20) — 600 min/mo Vizard entry gives 4× the minutes
Mid paid Pro US$29/mo, ~US$14.50/mo annual (~A$20–20) — 300 min/mo Creator (as above) — 600 min/mo Opus Pro adds scheduler, B-roll, brand kit
Team Business — custom Business US$19.50/mo annual (~A$27) — 600 min/mo Vizard team pricing is public; Opus is quote-only

Two things matter in that table.

First, Vizard is cheaper on minutes. Its Creator plan gives 600 upload minutes a month against Opus Clip Pro's 300. If you publish weekly long-form, that gap is real.

Second, both punish monthly billing. Vizard's Creator plan jumps from US$14.50 to US$29/mo month-to-month. Opus Clip Pro is US$29/mo monthly, roughly halving to ~US$14.50 on annual. Buy annual on either, or lose the value.

One credit equals one minute of source video on both platforms. So 600 credits is 600 minutes of input footage — not 600 finished clips. Estimate by total runtime, not video count.

Feature diff

Both tools share the core workflow: paste a link or upload a file, get vertical clips with animated captions and auto-reframing in minutes. Where they split:

Capability Opus Clip Vizard
Virality scoring Yes — 0–100, a genuine sorting aid Yes — rougher, "a guide not gospel"
Speaker reframing Strong on single/two-speaker; wobbles at 3+ Keeps a moving speaker centred; solid
Caption quality Word-level, multiple styles on Pro Accurate on clear audio; styled well by default
Clip-moment search ClipAnything — search footage by prompt No equivalent
AI B-roll insertion Yes (Pro) No
Social scheduler Yes (Pro) — 6+ platforms Yes (Creator) — 6 accounts
Brand kit Yes (Pro) Yes (Business)
Beyond clipping Clipping-focused, but deeper toolset One-trick — clips existing footage only

The real separator is ClipAnything. Opus Clip lets you search a long video by prompt and pull the moment you want, not just the moments its algorithm ranked highest. For a creator who knows the clip they need, that is a meaningful edge. Vizard has no answer to it.

Opus Clip also goes further past the core cut — B-roll, more caption styles, a more mature scheduler. That depth is why it scored 4/5 on Feature Depth against Vizard's 3/5.

Vizard's counter is focus. It does one job and does it fast, and its captions are its strongest feature. On Ease of Use the two tie at 4/5 — both are paste-and-go.

Australian fit

This is where both tools are thin, and where they score identically: Australian Fit 2/5 each.

Billing. USD-only on both. No AUD, no local pricing, foreign-transaction fees on most AU cards.

Data residency. Opus Clip processes footage on US servers and publishes a Trust Center at trust.opus.pro. Vizard states plainly that uploads are "stored on AWS servers in California, protected by AES-256 encryption." Neither offers an Australian region. For public marketing content, fine. For unreleased episodes or confidential client footage, factor it in.

One point to Vizard here: it states plainly it does not use customer data to train its models, training on public YouTube data instead. That is a clearer commitment than Opus Clip makes.

Support. Both are US-based and email-first, with no stated Australian time-zone coverage.

Australian English. Opus Clip captions default to American English spelling — "labor," "recognize" — with no AU setting, so every clip needs a caption check before it posts. Vizard has the same offshore-default limitation. For either tool, a transcription slip on "Woolworths" or "Centrelink" will cost you credibility with an Australian audience. Proofread before you post.

The Australian Fit gate. Neither tool clears the Australian Fit ≥ 4/5 bar, so neither can wear five stars or be named a category Top Pick, regardless of raw score. Both sit capped below Excellent by design. See our Methodology.

There is nothing AU-hostile in either product. Both simply treat Australia as they treat everywhere outside the US — which is to say, not specifically at all.

Reliability and support

A narrow win for Vizard on paper. It scored Reliability & Support 3/5 for its AWS-backed storage, AES-256 encryption, and clear data-training stance. Opus Clip scored 2/5 — its data-retention policy is less prominently disclosed, though it does publish a Trust Center.

Both are email-only support with no Australian presence. Neither will give you a local number to call. For a clipping tool, that is livable.

Who buys which

Buy Opus Clip if you want the more polished, more capable tool and you value output quality over saving a few dollars. The virality scoring is a genuine prioritisation aid, ClipAnything lets you pull the exact moment you want, and the Pro scheduler plus B-roll make it a more complete kit. It is the better choice for a marketer or small business turning one recording into a considered week of posts.

Buy Vizard if price and raw minutes decide it. At ~A$20/mo annual for 600 upload minutes, it is the cheaper way to clip high volumes of long-form content. Its captions are excellent and its data-training stance is the clearer of the two. Choose it if you publish weekly, watch the budget, and do not need ClipAnything or B-roll.

Skip both if you handle sensitive or pre-release footage that cannot leave Australia — neither offers local data hosting — or if you want a real editor rather than a clipper.

The verdict

For the typical Australian buyer — a creator or social team turning long videos into shorts — Opus Clip is the winner.

It scored one point higher (16 vs 15), and the point is earned where it counts: Feature Depth and output polish. ClipAnything alone justifies the pick for anyone who knows the moment they want. The prices are close enough on annual billing that Vizard's cost edge rarely decides it.

Vizard is the value pick, not the quality pick. If you are clipping high volumes on a tight budget, it earns its keep — but for most, Opus Clip's polish is worth the marginal spend.

Neither is built for Australians. Both bill in USD, both host offshore, both default to American English. Buy annual on whichever you choose, and proofread every caption before it goes out.
