AI in May 2026: the office tools grew agents — and meters

By Adam · Part of our monthly AI recap series, looking back at May 2026.

May was workspace-AI month. The productivity tools Australian teams already pay for — Notion, Atlassian, Linear, ClickUp — all pushed agents deeper into the product. And the free rides started ending.

Agents everywhere. Notion shipped its 3.5 Developer Platform with Workers and an External Agents API. Atlassian used Team '26 to take Rovo GA across Jira. Linear added Code Intelligence (powered by Claude Code) and then an Asks Agent. ClickUp launched Brain² with multi-model routing.

The meters switched on. Notion's Custom Agents began credit metering at USD$10 per 1,000 credits after the free trial ended. It's the pattern to expect across the category: launch free, then charge per use. Budget accordingly.

Also worth knowing: Cursor shipped its in-house Composer 2.5 model, and GitHub Copilot quietly removed Gemini models from its web chat.

What it meant for you: if your team runs on a workspace tool, it can now do more — but "AI included" increasingly means "AI metered." Check whether your plan caps agent usage before you build a workflow that depends on it.
