> **The verdict:** If you run a bookkeeping or accounting practice in Australia and your data-quality checks still happen by hand, XBert is worth a trial. It's Australian-built, it stores your data onshore in Azure's Australian regions, and it's designed around local compliance — BAS, TPAR, ABN and GST checks, plus TPB quality-management checklists. The AI is genuine: 88+ automated checks run over connected ledgers 24/7 and surface real errors for a human to fix. The catch is the pricing model — a per-user seat fee plus a per-client data plan that scales with transaction volume — so your monthly cost is hard to predict until you've loaded your client list. It's built for firms juggling multiple client files, not for a sole trader doing their own books. Score: 19/25 — Very Good.

---

XBert is an AI-powered audit and practice-management platform for bookkeepers and accountants. Connect your client ledgers — Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online, FreeAgent or Employment Hero — and it runs a battery of automated checks across them around the clock, flagging the kinds of errors a human reviewer might miss or only catch at quarter-end ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). On top of that sits a practice-management layer: job templates, task management, capacity tracking, time logging and a stack of business-intelligence reports. It's an Australian company — XBert Pty Ltd, ABN 28 627 168 423 — co-founded by Aaron Wittman ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/blog-author/aaron-wittman?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)), and the product is built around Australian compliance rather than retro-fitted to it.

This one earns its place in our Finance & Accounting AI category honestly. The AI isn't a marketing bolt-on. The core promise — continuous, automated data-quality auditing — is the AI, and there's a natural-language layer on top of it. Here's what it does well, and where it'll frustrate you.

## What it does well

**It audits ledgers continuously, not at quarter-end.** XBert runs up to 88+ automated AI checks 24/7 over your connected client files (the homepage references both an "80+" figure and "up to 88+ automated audit checks") ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). Those checks flag GST errors, duplicate payments and transactions, invalid ABNs, unreconciled accounts, bank-feed gaps, payroll anomalies and potential fraud indicators. For a firm that currently relies on a reviewer spotting these by eye, that's the difference between catching a duplicate payment the day it happens and catching it during the BAS scramble.

**You can ask it questions in plain English.** XBert Intelligence (XI) lets you query practice data conversationally — "who is overloaded", "which clients have unresolved alerts" — instead of building a report. You can also create "Custom XBerts": describe a monitoring rule in plain English and it generates a new alert for you. There's a shared XI Prompt Community library of monitoring prompts to borrow from ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/the-xbert-ai-accounting-and-bookkeeping-prompt-community?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). The XI features are backed by OpenAI and Anthropic, used under data-processing agreements that prohibit retention or model training on your customer data ([Source](https://trust.xbert.io/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)).

**It's built for the Australian compliance grind.** BAS and TPAR reporting workflows are built in, and there are Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) Quality Management System checklists with audit-ready documentation for registered BAS agents ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/quality-management-systems-for-bookkeepers-and-accountants?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). This is the part most overseas tools simply don't have.

**Every plan includes every feature.** Per the pricing page, all built-in data-quality checks, unlimited Custom XBerts, the client portal and all 26+ BI/practice-analytics reports come on every plan ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/value-based-pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). You're not paying to unlock the good bits — you pay for seats and for client volume, and the feature set is the same throughout. There's also a client portal for document sharing and collaboration.

## Watch out for

**It flags; it doesn't fix.** XBert surfaces anomalies and risks for human review. It audits and alerts — it does not auto-correct the ledger, and it does not replace the judgement of a qualified bookkeeper or BAS agent. Treat it as a smart second set of eyes, not an autopilot. As with any Finance tool, it doesn't replace qualified professional advice.

**The pricing is genuinely hard to predict.** It's two-part and usage-based: a per-user seat fee *plus* a per-client data plan that scales with each client's monthly activity volume. Your total cost moves with both team size and how busy your clients' books are. You won't know your real monthly figure until you've loaded your client list and seen which data-plan tier each one lands in.

**It's for firms, not solo operators.** XBert is built for practices managing multiple client files. If you're a small-business owner doing your own books, the value doesn't really land — the whole design assumes you're watching a portfolio of clients.

**Independent validation is thin.** GetApp shows just one review (4.0/5) at the time of writing ([Source](https://www.getapp.com/security-software/a/xbert/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). The product looks solid on its own pages, but there isn't yet a deep bench of third-party Australian reviews to cross-check against. Worth factoring in if you like to read a dozen user reviews before committing.

**The security posture is strong but read the fine print.** XBert's Trust Centre describes the platform as "Aligned to ISO 27001" rather than formally certified, and no SOC 2 attestation is claimed ([Source](https://trust.xbert.io/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). The onshore data residency and encryption are real positives (more below) — just don't read "aligned to ISO 27001" as "ISO 27001 certified."

## Pricing

XBert prices natively in Australian dollars (grouped AUD/NZD on the pricing page). There are two parts to every bill: a per-user seat fee, and a per-client data plan sized to each client's monthly activity volume ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/value-based-pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)).

| Component | Tier | Price (AUD, annual billing) |
| -------------------- | ----------------------------------- | ----------------------------- |
| Per-user seat fee | Annual | A$29 / user / month |
| Per-user seat fee | Monthly | A$34.80 / user / month |
| Per-client data plan | Micro (0–100 activities/mo) | A$7 / client / month |
| Per-client data plan | Small (\~250 activities/mo) | A$16 / client / month |
| Per-client data plan | Medium (\~600 activities/mo) | A$36 / client / month |
| Per-client data plan | Large (\~1,500 activities/mo) | A$59 / client / month |
| Per-client data plan | Extra Large (\~4,000 activities/mo) | A$89 / client / month |
| Per-client data plan | Enterprise (4,000+ activities/mo) | A$99 / client / month |
| Free trial | All features included | Free, no credit card required |

A worked example helps: a two-person practice (2 × A$29 = A$58/month in seats) managing ten "Small" clients (10 × A$16 = A$160/month in data plans) is looking at roughly A$218/month plus GST on annual billing — our calculation off the published tiers, not a vendor quote. Add a couple of high-volume clients on the Large or Extra Large tier and that number climbs quickly. The pricing page lists an indicative activity figure for each tier (Micro 0–100, Small \~250, Medium \~600, Large \~1,500, Extra Large \~4,000, Enterprise 4,000+ activities/month), where an "activity" is any data entry that generates a journal entry ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/value-based-pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). The exact cut-over point between adjacent tiers isn't separately enumerated, so budget with a little headroom.

**GST note:** XBert's pricing page states "All Pricing Excludes Sales Tax," so the AUD figures above are GST-exclusive ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/value-based-pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). For an Australian GST-registered practice, the standard domestic case adds 10% GST on top, claimable as an input tax credit and typically a deductible business expense — but confirm both against your circumstances with your accountant. This is general information, not tax advice. There was a US-market 75% / six-month launch discount that ended 31 Dec 2024; XBert's pages don't confirm whether that discount, or any current promotion, extends to Australian customers, so don't bank on one.

## Australian fit

This is where XBert is strongest, and it's the criterion that matters most for our readers.

**Australian-built and Australian-aware.** It's an Australian-registered company co-founded by Aaron Wittman ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/blog-author/aaron-wittman?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)), and the product is built around local compliance — BAS and TPAR workflows, TPB Quality Management System checklists, and ABN/GST validation checks baked into the audit engine ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/quality-management-systems-for-bookkeepers-and-accountants?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)).

**AUD-native pricing.** The pricing page shows Australian dollars directly (grouped AUD/NZD) — no USD conversion, no guessing the exchange rate. Seat fees from A$29/user/month, data plans from A$7 to A$99/client/month ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/value-based-pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)).

**Data stays onshore.** Per the XBert Trust Centre, customer data is stored in Microsoft Azure's Australian regions — Australia Southeast as primary, Australia East for disaster recovery — and geo-replicated within Australia. Encryption is TLS 1.3 in transit and AES-256 at rest. The platform is described as "Aligned to ISO 27001," the ACSC Essential Eight, OWASP Secure Development, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and GDPR where applicable. The OpenAI and Anthropic models behind XI are used under data-processing agreements that prohibit data retention or model training on your data, with AI calls ephemeral and agent memory hosted in Australia ([Source](https://trust.xbert.io/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). For an Australian practice handling client financial data, that residency story is about as good as it gets.

**Support is the one gap.** Specific Australian support hours and channels (phone, chat, email, business hours) aren't verified to a primary source, so we can't confirm them here. The company is Australian, which bodes well, but treat AU support specifics as something to confirm during your trial.

## Scoring

| Criterion | Score | Why |
| --------------------- | ----- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Value for Money | 3/5 | Every feature on every plan is a genuine plus, but the two-part usage-based pricing makes total cost hard to predict and it scales with both seats and client volume. |
| Ease of Use | 3/5 | Plain-English XI queries and Custom XBerts lower the barrier, but this is a practice-management platform with real setup — not consumer-simple. |
| Feature Depth | 5/5 | 88+ automated checks, 26+ BI reports, workflow/job management, multi-ledger integration and TPB QMS tooling. Genuinely deep. |
| Australian Fit | 5/5 | AU-built, onshore Azure data residency, native AUD pricing, and compliance tooling (BAS/TPAR/TPB/ABN/GST) most rivals lack. |
| Reliability & Support | 3/5 | Strong security posture, but thin independent reviews (one GetApp AU review), ISO only "aligned to," and AU support specifics unverified. |

**Total: 19/25 — ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good**

*Australian Fit is 5/5, so the Australian Fit gate is passed; the four-star rating reflects the 16–20 band on the raw total, not a cap.*

Update history
- **9 Oct 2026** — Re-checked for the AUD-claim queue (#400), xbert.io/value-based-pricing read in a browser on an Australian connection with the Australia/New Zealand tab selected: every figure stands — A$29 per user a month on annual billing (A$34.80 monthly) and the per-client data plans at A$7 / A$16 / A$36 / A$59 / A$89 / A$99 (20% more when billed monthly), all written "AUD" on the page and ex-GST ("All Pricing Excludes Sales Tax"). Housekeeping: `aud_native: true` set in the frontmatter, which had no value. Capture: `Dossiers/captures/xbert-pricing-2026-10-09.txt`.

## Frequently asked questions

**Is XBert an Australian product?** Yes. It's run by XBert Pty Ltd (ABN 28 627 168 423), an Australian-registered company co-founded by Aaron Wittman, and customer data is stored onshore in Microsoft Azure's Australian regions.

**Will XBert fix the errors it finds?** No. It audits your client ledgers and flags anomalies — GST errors, duplicate payments, invalid ABNs, unreconciled accounts, payroll issues and fraud indicators — for a human to review and correct. It's a second set of eyes, not an autopilot, and it doesn't replace the judgement of a qualified bookkeeper or BAS agent.

**Is it suitable for a small business doing its own books?** Not really. XBert is built for bookkeeping and accounting practices managing multiple client files. The pricing and the whole design assume you're watching a portfolio of clients, so a sole trader doing their own books won't get the value.

**How much does XBert actually cost?** It's two parts: a per-user seat fee (from A$29/user/month on annual billing) plus a per-client data plan (A$7 to A$99/client/month, scaled by each client's monthly activity volume), all GST-exclusive ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/value-based-pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). Your real figure depends on team size and client transaction volume, so use the free trial to model your own client list before committing.

**Which accounting systems does it connect to?** Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online, FreeAgent and Employment Hero ([Source](https://www.xbert.io/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)).
