- Description: Thriday folds a business bank account, automated bookkeeping and BAS/tax into one Australian app. For sole traders who hate admin, it is genuinely clever — but it asks you to bank where you book.

> **The verdict (23 September 2026):** Tyro Accounting is still one of the strongest Australian admin-autopilots for sole traders and micro-businesses — Australian-owned, Australian-licensed, priced in real AUD, with a named registered tax agent lodging your BAS on the top plan and local phone support on the free one. **What it is no longer is unique.** Thriday issued you the bank account, so the money moving through it *was* the bookkeeping; Tyro Accounting connects to the bank you already have over Open Banking, like everyone else. That costs it a point and its sharpest selling line, and it removes the objection we raised in June. **19/25.** New customers get the paid tier free until 28 February 2027.
>
> **The verdict as it stood on 13 June 2026, kept because the difference is the story:** Thriday is the closest thing Australia has to an "admin autopilot" for sole traders and micro-businesses. Open a transaction account, and the money flowing through it becomes your bookkeeping — categorised, reconciled and turned into a live tax estimate without you touching a spreadsheet. There is a free tier that is genuinely free, and the paid plans are sharply priced for what they do. The catch is structural: the magic only fully works if you move your business banking to Thriday's partner bank. If you can accept that, this is one of the smartest small-business finance tools built in this country. Score: 20/25 — Very Good.

Team Thrive is Thriday's own operating entity, and the homepage still carries the same promise Thriday made — financial peace of mind in a fraction of the time, six hours a week saved.

> **This review was accurate when we published it.** Thriday was still trading under its own name, on its own site, on **30 June 2026** — seventeen days later. This is a page overtaken by events, not one that was wrong on the day.
>
> **What changed is the mechanism this review awarded 5/5 for.** Thriday *issued* your transaction account — ten of them, with Visa Debit cards, on the free plan — so the money moving through it **was** the bookkeeping. Tyro Accounting instead *connects to* accounts you already have, syncing *"automatically using Open Banking"*. That is what Xero and MYOB do. Tyro sells a business transaction account, but as a separate product: the thing that made this tool distinctive now costs two subscriptions instead of one.

## What it is

Thriday is an Australian fintech that bundles three things most small businesses juggle separately: a **business bank account**, **automated accounting**, and **BAS and tax lodgment**. It is built for sole traders, freelancers and micro-businesses — the segment that finds Xero overkill and a shoebox of receipts terrifying.

The core idea is that your bank account *is* your bookkeeping. Because Thriday issues the transaction account, every dollar in and out is captured at the source. The software then categorises each transaction, matches receipts, calculates GST, and keeps a running estimate of the tax you owe. At the top tiers, a registered tax agent will prepare and lodge your BAS and annual return.

It is not a developer tool and not an enterprise platform. It is plumbing for a one-person business that wants the admin to disappear.

## What it costs in Australia (AUD + GST)

Australian-built, Australian-owned and priced natively in AUD — no conversion, no FX spread, no currency guesswork. Prices as listed on `tyro.com/accounting/`, read 23 September 2026.

| Plan | Monthly | What you get |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Free** | $0 | Unlimited invoices and quotes, **connect** unlimited bank accounts, automated transaction categorisation, GST tracking and financial reporting, local phone and email support |
| **Time-Saver** | **$0 until 28 February 2027**, then $29.95 | Everything free, plus automated bookkeeping and reconciliation, receipt scanning and expense management, cash flow and tax forecasting, asset and liability register |
| **Done-For-You BAS & Tax** | $119 | Everything in Time-Saver, plus BAS prepared and lodged for you, annual tax return prepared and lodged, accountant-led cash flow and tax planning, human accountant support, free onboarding session |

On Time-Saver, one-off lodgments are still sold à la carte: **DIY BAS from $57, DIY Tax from $97** — unchanged from June.

**Three changes worth knowing about, all in the reader's favour except the first.**

**The free tier no longer comes with a bank account.** Thriday's $0 plan included up to ten transaction accounts and Visa Debit cards. Tyro Accounting's $0 plan connects to accounts you already have. If you want the account as well, Tyro sells a **Business Banking Transaction Account** separately.

**Time-Saver is free until 28 February 2027** for new customers signing up during the offer period — fifteen months of the paid tier at no monthly cost, then $29.95.

**The $88 Done-For-You Tax tier is gone**, and the annual-commitment pricing with it. In June, $88 and $119 both required an annual commitment and the annual figures were displayed ($880 and $1,190). Tyro shows monthly figures only, with no lock-in stated. That removes the one thing the June review docked Value for Money a point for.

*The previous version of this section listed Thriday's four tiers with annual columns. Those prices were correct on 13 June 2026 and are preserved in the update history above rather than quietly replaced.*

## How it works / features

The engine is the bank feed, because Thriday owns it.

- **Automatic categorisation.** As money moves through your Thriday account, transactions are sorted into accounting categories without manual coding. This is where the "AI" sits — it learns your patterns and tags income and expenses as they land.
- **Receipt matching.** Scan or upload a receipt and it is matched to the corresponding bank transaction, so your records and your evidence stay joined.
- **Live tax estimate.** "When income hits your account, tax is calculated immediately," per Thriday. You see a running figure for what to set aside — the single most useful thing this tool does for a sole trader who has never made a quarterly payment on time.
- **Invoicing.** Unlimited invoices on every tier, including the free one, with card payment acceptance built in.
- **Bills.** Capture supplier bills and pay them from the app, with invoice fraud protection on the paid tiers.
- **Cash-flow and tax forecasting.** Real-time profit and loss, asset registers, and a forward view of cash and tax.
- **BAS and tax lodgment.** Lodge from the same app you bank in. At the Done-for-You tiers, Thriday Accounting — a registered tax agent — prepares and lodges for you.

The point of difference is that all of this happens in one place. You are not exporting a CSV from your bank into Xero, then chasing receipts in a third app. The bank account, the books and the lodgment live together.

## What it does well

**It removes a whole category of work.** For a sole trader, the genuine win is not any single feature — it is that bookkeeping stops being a separate task. Because the account and the accounting are the same system, there is no reconciliation chore at month's end. The reconciliation already happened.

**The tax estimate is the killer feature.** Knowing, in real time, how much to set aside for tax is the thing that keeps small operators out of trouble. Most accounting apps make you do the maths or wait for the BAS. Thriday shows it to you the moment income lands.

**The free tier is real.** A $0-forever plan with a proper business transaction account, ten sub-accounts, Visa Debit cards, unlimited invoicing and GST tracking is a strong on-ramp. Many "free" fintech plans are demos; this one is usable.

**There is a human at the top.** Thriday Accounting (Team Thrive No 2 Pty Ltd, registered tax agent No. 26262416) means the Done-for-You tiers are not just software pretending to be an accountant — a registered agent actually lodges.

## Where it falls short

No tool is faultless, and Thriday's weaknesses are worth naming plainly.

**You have to bank with them to get the magic.** This is the big one. The automation depends on Thriday owning the transaction account. If you want to keep your existing business bank — your CommBank, NAB or Up account — you lose most of the automation that makes Thriday special. It is an all-or-nothing switch, and switching business banking is not trivial.

**It is built for the small end.** Thriday suits sole traders and micro-businesses. A company with payroll, inventory, multiple staff and complex reporting will outgrow it and want Xero or MYOB. This is a deliberate focus, not a bug — but know which side of the line you sit on.

**The tax estimate is an estimate.** Thriday says so plainly: "your final tax position may differ from Thriday's estimate." It is a guide for setting money aside, not a substitute for a final, agent-prepared return. At the Time-Saver tier, that final step is on you.

**Data residency is not clearly disclosed.** Thriday holds ISO 27001 certification and states data is encrypted, but its public security pages do not say where customer data is physically hosted, and its policy notes that some technology and hosting providers "may be located outside Australia" — the exact hosting location is simply not published. For a finance tool, that is a gap worth closing before you sign up if local data storage matters to you.

**\~\~The Done-for-You tiers lock you in annually.\~\~ Fixed — and the tier went with it.** In June the $88 and $119 plans both required an annual commitment. Tyro Accounting displays a monthly figure for every plan with no commitment stated, so this objection is gone. The $88 Done-For-You Tax tier is gone too, leaving a single $119 done-for-you option.

## Australian fit

**4/5 — unchanged, and for the unchanged reason.** Almost every Australian signal got stronger under Tyro. One did not, and it is the one the fifth point was withheld for in June.

- **Australian-built, Australian-owned, Australian-regulated.** Tyro Accounting is provided by **Team Thrive Pty Ltd** (ABN 15 637 676 496) and **Team Thrive No 2 Pty Ltd** (ABN 26 677 263 606), both *"wholly owned but not guaranteed subsidiaries of Tyro Payments Limited"* (ACN 103 575 042, AFSL 471951). Team Thrive is Thriday's own operating entity — same people, licensed parent.
- **A registered tax agent, now with a number.** **No. 26262416**, published on the page. In June we could say "a registered Australian tax agent"; now you can look it up.
- **AUD-native billing.** Every price is in Australian dollars. Nothing is converted, so there is no FX spread and no rate to verify — which, after a week of reviewing tools that quote in no currency at all, is worth saying out loud.
- **BAS, GST and ATO lodgment remain first-class**, with lodgment done for you on the $119 plan.
- **Local phone and email support, on the free plan.** Stated explicitly on the pricing page.

**What left with the bank account.** In June, Thriday's transaction accounts and Visa Debit cards were issued by **Regional Australia Bank Ltd** (ABN 21 087 650 360, AFSL 241167), and because that is an ADI, deposits were covered by the **Financial Claims Scheme** to $250,000 per account holder. Tyro Accounting's plans do not include an issued account, so **that protection is no longer part of this product**. Tyro sells a Business Banking Transaction Account separately; whether it carries equivalent cover is a question for that product's own terms and is not established here.

**The asterisk is the same asterisk.** Where your accounting data is hosted is still not stated anywhere public. `tyro.com/support/security-fraud-prevention/` covers EFTPOS and PCI compliance, not this. A bigger, licensed parent has not changed what the vendor will tell you about data residency, and until it does the fifth point stays withheld — the same bar we applied in June.

> **Note:** Thriday provides tools and, on its top tiers, registered-agent lodgment — but it does not replace tailored advice from your own accountant or tax adviser for anything complex. Treat the in-app tax estimate as a planning figure, not a final position.

**Tax Practitioners Board guidance (final, 22 July 2026).** If a registered tax or BAS agent runs Thriday's AI features on your file, the TPB's Guidance Statement TPB(GS) 55/2026 applies to the agent, not the software: they stay accountable for the accuracy of every output, must exercise their own judgement rather than rely on the AI, and must not put your information into an AI model without your permission and a clear answer on where the data is stored. Nothing here changes those obligations — and none of it replaces advice from a registered practitioner. The free tier no longer includes an issued account or debit cards; the $88 Done-For-You Tax tier is gone with no replacement. Against that: Time-Saver is **$0 until 28 February 2027** for new customers, and **the annual lock-in this review docked a point for in June is no longer displayed on any tier**. DIY BAS $57 and DIY Tax $97 are unchanged and now undercut the tier that vanished |
| Ease of Use | **4/5** | **5/5** | **The one that moves.** The 5/5 was for a model where *"your bank account* *is* *your bookkeeping"* — which worked because Thriday **issued** the account and caught every dollar at source. **Still eligible as a category Top Pick.** Australian Fit of 4/5 clears the Australian Fit gate.

## Bottom line

**If you are a sole trader or freelancer who dreads admin:** this is close to a no-brainer to trial. Start on the free tier, move your banking across, and let the categorisation and live tax estimate do the work. For most one-person businesses, Thriday is the easiest path from "shoebox of receipts" to "BAS lodged on time."

**If you want to keep your existing business bank:** Thriday is not for you. The automation is bolted to its own account. Without that, you are better served by Xero or MYOB plus a bank feed.

**If you are a growing company with staff and payroll:** you will outgrow Thriday. Use it as a clean starting point, but plan to graduate.

**If data residency is a hard requirement:** get a written answer on where your data is hosted before you commit. The public pages do not say.

For the right user — the small, AU-based, admin-averse operator — Thriday is one of the most genuinely useful finance tools built in this country.

Update history
- **23 Sep 2026 — RE-REVIEWED. Thriday now trades as Tyro Accounting, and the score moves 20/25 → 19/25.** `thriday.com.au` redirects to `tyro.com/accounting/`; the operator is still Team Thrive Pty Ltd, now a subsidiary of Tyro Payments Limited (AFSL 471951). **The review was correct when published** — Thriday was still live under its own brand on [30 June 2026](http://web.archive.org/web/20260630000320/https://www.thriday.com.au/). **Pricing replaced in full.** **Was:** Free $0 with **up to 10 bank accounts and Visa Debit cards**; Time-Saver **$29.95/mo or $299/yr**; Done-For-You Tax **$88/mo on annual commitment or $880/yr**; Done-For-You BAS + Tax **$119/mo or $1,190/yr**. **Now:** Free $0 with *connect* unlimited bank accounts; Time-Saver **$29.95/mo, and $0 until 28 February 2027** for new customers in the offer period; **Done-For-You Tax at $88 is gone with no replacement tier**; Done-For-You BAS & Tax **$119/mo**. The à-la-carte **DIY BAS $57** and **DIY Tax $97** are unchanged from June and now undercut the tier that vanished. **Annual billing is no longer displayed for any tier.** **Score:** Ease of Use **5 → 4** — the 5/5 was for a bank-feed-as-bookkeeping model that worked because Thriday *issued* the account; it is now an Open Banking connection to accounts you already hold. Value for Money, Feature Depth and Australian Fit hold at 4; **Australian Fit stays at 4 for the same reason as in June — data-hosting location is still undisclosed** — even though every other Australian signal got stronger. Reliability holds at 3: `status.tyro.com` exists but **does not list Accounting among its components**, and the ISO 27001 claim that supported the original 3 is no longer verifiable on the current site. - **23 Sep 2026** — **`product_status: RENAMED` set, so the generated surfaces carry the rebrand too.** The 21 September flag below established the absorption into Tyro Accounting and stands unchanged; what it could not do was reach the directory tile, the score rail or the category-index row, which were still presenting Thriday as a live, independently branded 20/25 pick with a price. Read at primary today and **not yet reconciled into the body**: Tyro Accounting sells a free tier and a **Time-Saver plan at $29.95/month, currently $0 until 28 February 2027**. That is new information for the queued re-review, not a correction to the table below, which still describes Thriday's own plans. No score change. Verified in a browser, 23 September 2026.
- **21 Sep 2026 — ⚠ FLAG, not a full correction — Thriday appears to have been absorbed into Tyro Accounting.** Found via a full-corpus citation check: all five of this review's `thriday.com.au` citations (pricing, business banking, tax features, security FAQ, privacy policy) now return HTTP 404\. `www.thriday.com.au/` itself 301-redirects to `www.tyro.com/accounting/`, whose page footer states **"Tyro Accounting (formerly Thriday) is provided by Team Thrive Pty Ltd... a registered tax agent... wholly owned but not guaranteed subsidiar\[y\] of Tyro Payments Limited"** — Team Thrive is Thriday's operating entity. The new site has a "Moving from Thriday?" migration flow, which only exists for a product being wound down under its old name. **This review still scores and describes "Thriday" as a live, independently branded product at 20/25 — that description may already be wrong**, and none of Tyro Accounting's current pricing, plans or feature set have been verified against it. Not resolved in this pass: repointing five dead citations to a same-content Tyro page isn't possible because the product itself has been rebranded, not just moved. **This needs a full dossier-refresh and re-review (`aid-dossier-builder` → `aid-review-writer`), not a citation fix — flagging for the editorial queue rather than guessing at what Tyro Accounting now costs or includes.** [Source](https://www.tyro.com/accounting/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) — read 21 September 2026\. Wayback: capture pending (Save Page Now HTTP 500, availability API HTTP 429 on 21 Sep 2026, second consecutive day). No score change made.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Thriday worth it for Australian small businesses?

Yes, if you are a sole trader or micro-business that hates admin. We score it **19/25 — Very Good, four stars**, down from 20/25 in June. Transactions are categorised, receipts matched and tax estimated in real time, and on the $119 plan a registered tax agent lodges your BAS and annual return. **The catch has changed:** in June you had to move your banking to Thriday's partner account to get the full automation. Now it connects to the bank you already use — easier to start, but no longer the all-in-one it was.

### What does Tyro Accounting cost in AUD?

Natively in Australian dollars, with nothing converted. **Free** at $0\. **Time-Saver** at $29.95 a month — **$0 until 28 February 2027** for new customers who sign up during the offer period. **Done-For-You BAS & Tax** at $119 a month, which includes BAS and your annual return prepared and lodged by a registered tax agent. One-off lodgments are sold à la carte on Time-Saver: DIY BAS from $57, DIY Tax from $97\. The $88 Done-For-You Tax tier we reviewed in June no longer exists, and the annual-commitment pricing has gone with it.

### Is my money safe, and where is my data stored?

**These are now two different questions, and only one of them has a good answer.** In June, Thriday issued your transaction account through **Regional Australia Bank** (an ADI), so deposits were covered by the **Financial Claims Scheme** to $250,000\. Tyro Accounting does not include an issued account — it connects to the bank you already use — so that question now belongs to whoever holds your money. Tyro sells a business transaction account separately; check its own terms.

On data: **still not stated.** The vendor does not publish where your accounting data is hosted. That was the reason we held Australian Fit at 4/5 in June, and a larger licensed parent has not changed it.

### Does it replace an accountant?

Not for anything complex. The in-app tax estimate is a planning figure, not a final position. On the $119 plan a **registered tax agent (No. 26262416)** prepares and lodges your BAS and annual return, which is real work done by a real agent — but tailored advice on structure, deductions or an ATO dispute is still your accountant's job.

### Who shouldn't use it?

**This answer has reversed, and it is the clearest way to see what changed.** In June we said: *anyone who wants to keep their existing business bank* — because the automation was bolted to Thriday's own account, and without moving your banking across you lost most of what made it good.

That objection is gone. Tyro Accounting connects to the bank you already have. **The thing that made this tool distinctive in June is the thing it gave up, and the thing we warned you about is the thing it fixed.** Who shouldn't use it now: anyone who wanted the all-in-one account, and anyone who needs to know where their financial data is hosted before they hand it over.

**One thing deliberately not stated:** the date Thriday became Tyro Accounting. No vendor announcement was found, and the Wayback record only bounds it between **30 June and 15 September 2026**. We would rather leave it open than invent a date.
