> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Snyk DeepCode AI is the engine behind Snyk Code, and it is one of the few AI security tools that fixes the bug instead of just flagging it. The hybrid-AI approach keeps false positives down, the free tier is genuinely usable, and there is a real Sydney data-residency option. The catch for Australians: that residency is Enterprise-only, and every price is in US dollars. A serious tool for development teams — just not a self-serve bargain for local data-sovereignty buyers.

## What it is

Snyk DeepCode AI is not a product you buy on its own. It is the AI engine inside Snyk's developer-security platform, and it powers **Snyk Code**, the company's SAST (static application security testing) tool.

In plain terms: it reads your source code as you write it, finds security vulnerabilities, and — this is the interesting part — proposes a fix you can apply in seconds rather than just handing you a problem.

Snyk calls its method a "hybrid AI" approach. It combines symbolic AI and generative AI with machine-learning models, rather than leaning on one large language model. The pitch is accuracy without hallucination. According to Snyk's own platform page, the autofixes are "85%-accurate," the engine supports "19+" programming languages, and it was trained on "millions of permissively licensed open source projects with verified code fixes — never customer data."

That last line matters. Plenty of AI coding tools are vague about training data. Snyk states plainly that it does not train on your code.

For an Australian development team, the practical question is simple: does it catch real problems, fix them cleanly, and respect where your data lives? On the first two, yes. The third is where the nuance sits.

## Pricing in AUD

Snyk publishes its pricing in US dollars and bills per **contributing developer** — defined as a developer who commits to a private repository monitored by Snyk in the last 90 days. Public-repo contributors do not count.

Here is the published US pricing, with an approximate AUD conversion at the \~1.40 rate we use as of September 2026\. These are SaaS subscriptions billed in USD, so GST treatment depends on your import arrangements rather than a local tax-inclusive sticker price.

| Plan | USD price | Approx AUD | What you get |
| ---------- | ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Free | US$0 | A$0 | SCA, SAST, IaC and container scanning with capped test counts (100 Code tests) |
| Team | from US$25/mo per developer | \~A$35/mo per developer | Higher test limits, Jira integration, next-business-day support |
| Ignite | from US$1,260/yr per developer | \~A$1,764/yr (\~A$147/mo) per developer | Full platform access, unlimited code tests, custom rules, risk-based prioritisation; aimed at teams under 50 developers |
| Enterprise | Custom (contact sales) | Custom | Everything above plus regional data residency, unified AppSec controls, SDLC automation |

The free tier is the headline. You get real DeepCode AI scanning — 100 Code tests, IDE and CLI integration, real-time scanning — without a credit card. For a solo developer or a small Australian shop kicking the tyres, that is a fair offer.

Team at roughly A$35 per developer per month is reasonable against the security category. But note the per-developer model: a ten-person team is looking at roughly A$390 a month, and a fifty-person team well into five figures a year before you reach Enterprise.

The thing most Australians will want — local data residency — does not appear on any of the self-serve tiers. It is an Enterprise-only feature, and Enterprise pricing is quote-only.

## Australian fit

This is the review's pivot point, so let us be precise.

Snyk does host in Australia. The company opened a Sydney data centre on 30 November 2022, and its documentation lists **SNYK-AU-01 (Australia)** at `app.au.snyk.io` as a supported region. Data residency in that region covers Snyk Open Source, Snyk Code, Snyk Container and Snyk IaC. For an Australian business with genuine data-sovereignty obligations — government suppliers, regulated finance, anyone bound by local-storage requirements — that is a meaningful, real capability that many overseas-built security tools simply do not offer.

But the documentation is equally plain about the catch. Snyk states that "SNYK-US-02, EU, and AU data center Snyk accounts are available only with the purchase of an Enterprise plan," and that "regional hosting and data residency are available only for Enterprise plans." The original announcement confirms AU residency is for new customers on the Enterprise plan.

So the Australian story is split. Free, Team and Ignite customers run on the default US-hosted `app.snyk.io`. To keep your application-security data in Sydney, you must be on a custom-priced Enterprise contract. There is no AUD billing, no published AU support hours, and the residency that makes Snyk attractive to local buyers is gated behind the most expensive tier.

That is why Australian Fit does not clear our four-out-of-five bar here, despite the genuine Sydney region. A capability you cannot reach without a sales call and an enterprise budget is a capability most of our readers will not actually use.

## Where it's strong

**The autofix is the real product.** Most code scanners are good at producing a list of problems and bad at helping you solve them. DeepCode AI generates a suggested fix you can apply directly in your editor. Snyk's claimed 85% accuracy will not be right every time, but a fix you review and accept beats a finding you have to research from scratch.

**Accuracy over hype.** The hybrid-AI design — symbolic plus generative, not a single chatty LLM — is built to cut false positives. Anyone who has drowned in noisy scanner output knows that signal-to-noise is the whole game. Fewer false alarms means developers actually act on the findings.

**It does not train on your code.** Snyk says training relies only on permissively licensed open source with verified fixes, never customer data. For Australian teams handling sensitive or proprietary code, that is a clear, stated position rather than a fuzzy promise.

**Depth across languages and the SDLC.** Support for 19-plus languages, reachability analysis that tells you whether vulnerable code is actually called, and DeepCode AI Search for custom queries add up to a tool with serious range, not a thin wrapper.

**A usable free tier.** Real scanning, real integrations, no credit card. You can evaluate it properly before spending anything.

## Where it's weak

**The Australian residency is locked away.** The single feature that would make Snyk a standout for local buyers — data hosted in Sydney — requires an Enterprise contract. Free, Team and Ignite users get US hosting. For a tool we are assessing through an Australian lens, that is the central limitation.

**Everything is priced in USD.** No AUD billing, no GST-inclusive pricing, currency exposure on every invoice. You are converting and absorbing exchange-rate movement yourself.

**Per-developer billing scales fast.** The model is fair in principle, but a growing team feels it. Costs climb with headcount, and the jump from self-serve tiers to Enterprise — where residency lives — is a quote-only cliff, not a published step.

**It is a developer tool, not a tool for everyone.** Our usual reader is a busy Australian operator, not an engineer. Snyk is genuinely easy *for developers* working in an IDE. It is not something a non-technical small-business owner will pick up, and it is not meant to be.

**The 85% figure is the vendor's own.** It is Snyk's claimed accuracy, not an independently audited number. Treat autofixes as strong suggestions to review, not gospel — which is how any developer should treat them anyway.

## The score

| Criterion | Score | Why |
| --------------------- | ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Value for Money | 3 / 5 | Genuinely usable free tier and fair Team pricing, but the autofix value and AU residency sit behind paid and Enterprise tiers; per-developer costs scale. |
| Ease of Use | 4 / 5 | Smooth IDE and CLI integration, in-editor autofixes in seconds — excellent for developers, though not aimed at non-technical users. |
| Feature Depth | 5 / 5 | Hybrid-AI SAST, 19+ languages, reachability, custom DeepCode AI Search and applied fixes. A deep, mature security engine. |
| Australian Fit | 3 / 5 | A real Sydney data region is a genuine plus, but it is Enterprise-only; pricing is USD with no AUD or published local support. |
| Reliability & Support | 4 / 5 | Established vendor, strong documentation, multi-tenant SaaS, next-business-day support from the Team plan up. |
| **Total** | **19 / 25** | **⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good** |

Australian Fit sits at 3/5, below our four-out-of-five gate. Under our methodology that bars a five-star rating and a category Top Pick regardless of the raw total — though at 19/25 the score lands in the four-star band on its own. The gate is not what holds Snyk back here; the maths does.

## Verdict

Snyk DeepCode AI is a serious, capable AI security engine, and for development teams it earns its four stars. The autofix is the headline feature done properly — it solves problems instead of just listing them — and the hybrid-AI design keeps the noise down. The free tier lets any Australian team test it without spending a cent, and the stated "never your code" training policy is the kind of clarity we like to see.

The reason it is Very Good rather than Excellent for Australians is specific, not vague. The Sydney data residency that would make Snyk a local standout is real but reachable only on a custom-priced Enterprise plan. Self-serve customers get US hosting and USD invoices. If you have a hard data-sovereignty requirement, Snyk can meet it — but you will be talking to sales, not signing up online.

**Who should use it:** development and security teams that want AI-assisted code scanning with fixes, and can either live with US hosting or have the Enterprise budget for Sydney residency. Start on the free tier.

**Who should look elsewhere:** non-technical operators — this is not a tool for you — and small teams that need Australian data residency without an enterprise contract.
