A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow \~10% on top (*[*Methodology*](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/methodology/)*).*

> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Sembly AI is one of the more capable meeting tools we've tested. It doesn't just transcribe — it drafts proposals, briefs and reports from your call, and tracks who agreed to do what. That's genuinely useful for a busy consultant or agency. But it bills only in US dollars, has no Australian data region, and the cheapest paid plan tops out at a single user. For most Australian small teams it's a strong tool sold at a slightly awkward angle.

## What Sembly AI is

Sembly AI is a meeting notetaker that has grown into something bigger. At its core it does what you'd expect: an agent (Sembly calls it "Semblian") joins your Zoom, Teams, Google Meet or Webex call, records it, transcribes it with speaker labels, and writes you a summary afterwards. It supports transcription in 48 languages, with speaker identification.

The part that sets it apart is the "agentic" layer. Sembly will turn a recorded conversation into a finished document — a proposal, a project brief, a pitch deck outline, a gap analysis — rather than just a bullet-point recap. It extracts action items, assigns owners and deadlines, tracks decisions, and lets you search across your whole meeting history. It pushes that data into Salesforce, HubSpot, Notion, Slack and 50-odd other tools.

In plain terms: most notetakers hand you a tidy summary. Sembly tries to hand you the first draft of the work that comes *out* of the meeting. Whether that's worth the price depends on what you do for a living.

## What it costs in Australia

There is no AUD billing. Sembly prices everything in US dollars, and its pricing page doesn't itemise GST treatment, so we can't confirm how — or whether — GST is applied to Australian cards. The AUD figures below are our own conversion at roughly 1.40, shown ex-GST; treat them as a planning estimate, not a quote.

| Plan | Price (USD, monthly) | Approx AUD (ex-GST) | Who it's for |
| ---------- | -------------------- | ------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Basic | US$17/mo | \~A$24/mo | 1 user, unlimited meetings, transcription + summaries |
| Pro | US$29/user/mo | \~A$41/user/mo | Up to 40 users, AI documents, analytics, integrations |
| MAX | US$39/user/mo | \~A$55/user/mo | 3 to 500 users (minimum 3 seats), HD video, HIPAA, SSO, audit log |
| Enterprise | Custom | Quote | Isolated/private datastore, custom contracts |

Annual billing cuts roughly 30% off: Basic drops to US$10/mo, Pro to US$20/user/mo and MAX to US$30/user/mo (\~A$14 / \~A$28 / \~A$42 on the same conversion basis). These AUD figures are our conversion, not Sembly's billing — your card will be charged in USD and your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee on top.

**Pricing basis:** Sembly's official pricing page, checked 20 June 2026\. Note that Sembly restructured and renamed its plans effective 1 March 2026; legacy Professional, Team and Team Plus subscribers can continue through December 2026 before migration. There is no permanent free plan — only trials.

## How it works in practice

You connect your calendar, and Semblian joins booked meetings automatically. You can also have it attend a call when you can't make it yourself, which is the feature people either love or find faintly unsettling. After the call, the transcript, summary and extracted tasks land in your workspace within minutes.

The document generation is the standout. Run a discovery call with a client, then ask Sembly to turn it into a project brief, and you get a structured draft rather than a wall of quotes. It's not publish-ready — you'll edit it — but it saves the blank-page problem. For a Melbourne agency running back-to-back client calls, that's where the genuine time saving sits — the write-up that would otherwise eat a chunk of each post-meeting hour, handed to you as a draft instead. How much that's worth depends on how much writing your meetings generate.

The action-item tracking is reliable enough to lean on. It pulls out commitments with owners and dates, which beats scrolling a transcript hunting for "I'll send that through by Friday."

## What it does well

- **Turns talk into documents, not just notes.** The proposal/brief/report generation is a real differentiator over plain transcription tools. This is the reason to choose Sembly over a cheaper notetaker.
- **Strong action-item and decision tracking.** Owners, deadlines and decisions are extracted cleanly, so nothing agreed in the meeting quietly evaporates.
- **Wide platform and language coverage.** Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Webex and file upload, with transcription across 48 languages — useful if your meetings aren't all in English.
- **Deep integrations.** Salesforce, HubSpot, Notion, Slack and 50+ others, so meeting data flows into the CRM or workspace you already use.
- **Real EU data-residency option and serious certifications.** SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, GDPR, FERPA, PCI DSS and EU-US DPF, with US or EU hosting selectable at signup — strong for a tool this size.

## What it doesn't do well

- **No AUD billing and a foreign-transaction sting.** Every plan is USD-only. Australians pay the exchange rate plus, usually, a bank fee, and GST treatment isn't spelled out on the pricing page.
- **No standard Australian or APAC data region.** On the self-serve plans, hosting is US or EU only. For an Australian law firm, accountant or health provider that wants data kept onshore, that's a hard limitation. Sembly's top Enterprise tier (its "Private Cloud" deployment) advertises processing and storage "in a region of your choice," which leaves the door open to an Australian region — but Sembly doesn't list Australia explicitly, so you'd need to confirm onshore availability directly with their sales team before relying on it.
- **The cheap plan is one seat.** Basic is single-user. The moment two people in your business need it, you're on Pro at \~A$41/user/mo ex-GST, which adds up fast for a small team.
- **AI documents are capped on lower tiers.** Pro limits you to 5 AI-generated documents and 5 AI insights; the headline document feature is rationed unless you pay for MAX.
- **An always-joining bot has social costs.** Semblian attending meetings you're not in, or sitting visibly in client calls, can land badly with some clients. That's a workflow and etiquette issue, not a bug, but it's real.

## Australian fit

This is where Sembly loses ground. The product is good; the local fit is thin. There's no AUD billing, no GST line item, no Australian phone support, and no Australian data region — your meeting recordings sit on Azure in the US or EU. For general business use that's acceptable. For the regulated end of town — legal, finance, health, anything touching the Privacy Act's tighter expectations — the lack of onshore hosting is a genuine blocker you'd need to clear with your own compliance people first.

**This tool doesn't replace qualified professional advice.** If you're in legal, finance or health, confirm data-handling obligations with someone qualified before recording client conversations.

The certifications (SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, EU-US DPF) are reassuring, and EU hosting is better than US-only for privacy-minded Australians. But "good for Europe" isn't "built for Australia," and that's the gap.

## Alternatives

- [**Otter.ai**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/otter-ai-review-australia-2026/) — cheaper and simpler if you mainly want clean transcripts and summaries rather than generated documents. Weaker on the agentic document side.
- [**Fireflies.ai**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/fireflies-ai-review-australia-2026/) — comparable notetaker with strong CRM integrations and a usable free tier; a sensible cost comparison before committing to Sembly.
- [**Microsoft Copilot**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/microsoft-copilot-review-australia/) — if your team already lives in Teams and Microsoft 365, Copilot's built-in meeting recap may cover enough without a separate subscription.

## Bottom line

Sembly AI earns its keep if your work produces documents — proposals, briefs, reports — straight out of meetings. Consultants, agencies and sales teams will feel the time saving. The document generation and action tracking are the real reasons to pick it over a plain notetaker, and the security posture is strong.

But it's sold to Australians at an angle: USD-only billing, no onshore data region, and a single-seat entry plan. For a regulated AU business it may not clear compliance without an Enterprise conversation. For everyone else, it's a very good tool you'll pay a little extra to use from Australia. Recommended with eyes open — trial it before you commit annually.

| --------------------- | --------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Value for Money | 3/5 | Capable, but USD-only and single-seat Basic make small-team value middling. |
| Ease of Use | 4/5 | Auto-join, fast turnaround, minimal setup; non-technical users get going quickly. |

| Australian Fit | 2/5 | No AUD billing, no GST clarity, no AU data region — US/EU hosting only. |
| Reliability & Support | 3/5 | SOC 2 Type II and solid uptime, but support is offshore with no AU presence. |

Update history
- **29 Sep 2026 — verified USD by browser; ladder clean.** `sembly.ai/pricing` (now badged "Sembly 3.0") on an Australian connection: Basic $17 a month or $10 billed annually, Pro $29 / $20 per user, MAX $39 / $30 per user, Enterprise custom — every figure holds. Bare `$`, no `A$`. New detail added to the table: MAX now needs **at least 3 users** (10 for Enterprise). The free option is still labelled a trial (1 meeting hour a month, 750 credits). Score unchanged. [Source](https://www.sembly.ai/pricing/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) · capture `Dossiers/captures/sembly-ai-pricing-2026-09-29.txt`
- **20 Jun 2026** — First reviewed.
- **24 Sep 2026** — **The AUD column was never grossed up for GST, and every word around it said it was.** The header read *“gross-up; GST unconfirmed”* and the note beneath described a 10% uplift — while the figures themselves are plain conversions at 1.4045\. Checked before changing a word: across the 63 files carrying this wording, **141 rows convert at 1.4045 and none at 1.4045 × 1.10**. **No figure changed here; only the description of them did.** Two things were wrong beyond the arithmetic: *gross-up* names a tax uplift and was being used for a currency conversion, and *GST unconfirmed* is stale — our GST rule settled it on 5 September 2026, and a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is **not charged GST** on an imported digital service. **No USD price moved and no score changed.** `reviewed:` untouched per our dating rule.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Sembly AI available in Australia?

Yes. It joins Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and Webex calls and works fully from Australia. But there's no Australian phone support and no local presence — support is offshore.

### Does Sembly AI charge in AUD?

No. Every plan is priced in US dollars, and the pricing page doesn't itemise GST treatment for Australian cards. Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee. Plans run from US$17/mo (Basic) to US$39/user/mo (MAX), with about 30% off on annual billing.

### Is there a free plan or free trial?

There's no permanent free plan — only trials. The cheapest paid tier, Basic, is single-user at US$17/mo. The moment a second person needs it, you're on Pro at about A$41/user/mo, which adds up for a small team.

### Does Sembly AI store data in Australia?

No standard Australian or APAC region. On self-serve plans hosting is US or EU only (on Azure). Its top Enterprise "Private Cloud" tier advertises storage "in a region of your choice," but Australia isn't listed — confirm onshore availability with sales before relying on it.

### Who is Sembly AI best for?

Consultants, agencies and sales teams whose meetings produce documents — proposals, briefs, reports — since the agentic layer hands you a first draft, not just notes. Regulated AU businesses (legal, finance, health) may not clear compliance without an Enterprise conversation.
