> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Riffusion as an independent AI music tool is gone. As of mid-2026, riffusion.com redirects to Google Flow Music (flowmusic.app), a Google-backed generative music platform powered by the Lyria 3 model. What was a scrappy, technically interesting open-source experiment has been absorbed into a more polished but less accessible product. For Australian creators who valued Riffusion's open approach, the transition is a mixed bag: better audio quality, significantly more restricted commercial-use terms (Google's Terms of Service apply), and all your data now goes to Google's offshore servers.

## What Riffusion was — and what it is now

Riffusion launched in late 2022 as a viral experiment: two developers, Seth Forsgren and Hayk Martiros, fine-tuned Stable Diffusion to generate spectrograms (visual representations of audio), then converted those spectrograms back into sound. The result was AI-generated music driven by image-generation techniques. It attracted enormous attention and spawned a company.

By mid-2026, riffusion.com no longer loads a Riffusion product. Every page on the domain redirects to flowmusic.app — Google Flow Music.

**What is Google Flow Music?** It is Google's generative AI music platform, running on Lyria 3 (Google DeepMind's frontier music model). Features include: full-song generation via a "Producer" chat interface, AI music video direction using Veo (Google's video model), audio stem splitting, daily generation credits, and a social sharing layer. The platform is web-based, free to start, and requires no credit card.

The relationship between Riffusion the company and Google Flow Music is not fully publicly confirmed (exact acquisition or integration terms not publicly disclosed as of 26 June 2026). What is confirmed by primary source (the riffusion.com redirect, checked 26 June 2026): the Riffusion domain now routes exclusively to Google Flow Music, and Riffusion's independent products are no longer publicly accessible.

This review assesses the product Australian users now encounter when they navigate to riffusion.com: Google Flow Music.

## What it costs in Australia

| Tier | USD/month | AUD approx. ex-GST (×1.4045) | Notes |
| ---------- | ------------- | ---------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Free | $0 | $0 | Daily generation credits; no credit card required |
| Paid tiers | (unconfirmed) | (unconfirmed) | Flow Music pricing page not publicly confirmed at time of review |

**Notes for Australians:** \- Google typically charges AUD for Australian accounts and includes GST in Google One/Workspace billing, but specific Flow Music paid plan details are (unconfirmed) at time of review — the pricing page requires login to access. - Google collects GST in Australia as a registered foreign supplier under LSPT rules. - The free tier includes "daily credits" for generation — the exact daily allowance is not publicly disclosed (unconfirmed).

## How it works in practice

Google Flow Music presents as a music creation studio with a conversational interface. You describe what you want to a "Producer" chat system, and the Lyria 3 model generates tracks with "rich musicality and dynamic vocals."

The contrast with original Riffusion is stark. Riffusion was bare-bones: you typed a prompt, you got a spectrogram-derived audio clip, typically 5–15 seconds. Google Flow Music generates full songs. It is significantly more polished, with a social component (playlists, following artists, discovering music), AI music video generation via Veo, and a "turntable" feature for playback.

The platform also includes: - Stem splitting (isolate vocals, drums, bass, etc. from a track) - Audio effects - "Vibe-code" spaces — custom audio tools built in-platform, like a browser-based keyboard - A mobile app (iOS, app ID 6760315723)

The Lyria 3 model — Google DeepMind's music AI — is meaningfully more capable than the original Riffusion model. Expect full-length tracks with structured verses, choruses, and genuine vocal performance rather than the short ambient clips Riffusion produced.

---

## What it does well

**Output quality has improved dramatically.** Lyria 3 generates full songs with vocals and dynamic structure. Original Riffusion produced short, often abstract loops. If you used Riffusion for finished music, Google Flow Music is a significant upgrade in raw capability.

**Free to start, no friction.** No credit card required. Australian creators can sign up with a Google account and generate tracks immediately.

**Full-stack creative suite.** Song generation, AI music video, stem splitting, and social sharing in one platform. For content creators, this is a more complete workflow than most standalone music AI tools.

**Daily credits model.** The free tier refreshes daily, which suits occasional creators better than a monthly generation cap.

**Mobile app available.** iOS app on the App Store means you can generate music on the go.

---

## What it doesn't do well

**The original Riffusion open-source ethos is gone.** Riffusion's early versions were openly documented, and the model weights were released publicly. Google Flow Music is a closed, proprietary product. If you valued Riffusion's transparency or used the open model in your own pipeline, that option has disappeared.

**Commercial-use terms are significantly more complex.** Riffusion's original terms were permissive for creators. Google Flow Music's Terms of Service govern output use. Those terms are standard Google ToS — appropriate for personal/creative use, but the commercial licensing terms for music distribution, advertising, and monetisation require careful reading. Specifically: distributing Lyria 3-generated music to streaming services and claiming commercial rights to it is not straightforwardly covered. (as to final commercial licence position — Google Flow Music commercial terms not fully confirmed at time of review; check flowmusic.app/terms before any commercial use.)

**Data goes to Google.** Everything you generate goes to Google's servers. Google's privacy policy (effective globally, data processed in the US and other jurisdictions) applies. There is no Australian data residency option. For Australian creators working with client content, brand assets, or anything sensitive, this is a material consideration.

**No public pricing for paid tiers.** You must log in to see paid plan details. This review cannot confirm paid pricing with primary-source verification.

**Google's long-term commitment is unclear.** Google has a history of discontinuing products (see: Google Play Music, Stadia, and dozens of others). Building a music catalogue or audience on Google Flow Music carries platform risk. Riffusion itself is the most recent example: the original product's users had no warning before the redirect.

**Limited control vs. competitors.** For producers who want granular control — specific BPM, key, arrangement structure, DAW export — Google Flow Music's conversational interface is less precise than tools like Stable Audio or Soundraw.

---

## Australian fit

**Commercial use and copyright — what Australian creators need to know**

This is the section that matters most for anyone previously using Riffusion commercially.

Original Riffusion's terms were relatively permissive for creator use. Google Flow Music's commercial terms are governed by Google's standard Terms of Service and any specific Flow Music terms layered on top. At time of review, the full commercial licence specifics — particularly around distributing AI-generated music to streaming platforms and monetising it — sit behind a Google login and could not be confirmed from the public pages. For an Australian business planning to commercialise AI-generated music, that uncertainty is the thing to resolve first: read the live terms in-account before you rely on a track commercially.

What is confirmed by primary source (flowmusic.app, checked 26 June 2026): - "Free to start · No credit card required" - Terms of Service link: flowmusic.app/terms (page returned empty at time of review — (unconfirmed)) - The platform includes stem splitting and social sharing features

**The training data question.** Google DeepMind's Lyria model has not published full details of its training dataset in the same way Stability AI has for Stable Audio. The copyright provenance of Lyria 3's training data is (unconfirmed) from public primary sources.

**Data residency:** Google's infrastructure is global. Australian data is not guaranteed to remain in Australia. Google operates a data centre in Australia (Sydney region on Google Cloud) but consumer-facing products like Flow Music do not typically guarantee Australian data residency.

**GST:** Google collects GST in Australia on digital services — this is one of the few tools in this category where the GST question is relatively clean.

**AU support:** Google's standard help documentation and community support. No Australia-specific support channel.

## Alternatives

If Google Flow Music does not serve your needs — particularly if you want clearer commercial terms, self-hosting options, or the original Riffusion ethos — consider these tools reviewed on The AI Directory Australia:

- [**Suno**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/suno-review-australia-2026/) — The closest like-for-like alternative for full AI songs with vocals. Very strong free tier, clearer commercial licensing terms for paid subscribers.
- [**Udio**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/udio-review-australia-2026/) — Similar to Suno; strong vocal quality. Paid plans clarify commercial rights.
- [**Stable Audio**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/review-stable-audio-australia-2026/) — Better choice if you want open-weights, self-hosting, and explicitly licensed training data. More technical; no vocals in the base product.
- [**Soundraw**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/review-soundraw-australia-2026/) — Better for content creators wanting royalty-free background music with clear commercial licencing. More limited creatively but more predictable legally.

---

## Bottom line

If you are searching for Riffusion in 2026, the product you remember is gone. What you find at riffusion.com is Google Flow Music — a more polished, more capable, but more commercially opaque AI music platform.

For casual creators and hobbyists, Google Flow Music is genuinely good: free, capable, full-featured. For Australian businesses planning to use AI-generated music commercially — in ads, client deliverables, streaming distribution — the unconfirmed commercial terms and Google's data practices warrant caution. Verify the Terms of Service directly at flowmusic.app/terms before committing to it for any commercial workflow.

Score: 13/25 — Good for personal and creative use. Not yet ready to recommend confidently for commercial Australian business use given the unresolved questions around commercial licensing and data.

Update history
- **21 Sep 2026** — **A duplicate AUD column removed — the 6 September re-basing rebased the GST column instead of deleting it.** The table carried two AUD columns holding **identical figures**, under a header that still described the second as a 10% gross-up. Every figure in it was already the ex-GST conversion, so **no number changed**; the column said something the column did not contain. Under our GST rule our conversions are shown ex-GST and the GST position is stated in words once, so the surviving column is headed ex-GST at USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026). The surviving header also loses “÷1.40”, which had the arithmetic backwards: a USD price is **multiplied** by the rate to reach AUD. No USD price moved and no score changed. `reviewed:` untouched per our dating rule.
- **21 Sep 2026** — **Confirmed: the Riffusion app on the Australian App Store is not Riffusion's.** *Riffusion: AI Music Generator* (id6670791035) is published by **CLOUD COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY SP Z O O**, a Polish entity, and declares no website at all. It carries a full AUD in-app ladder, which is exactly what makes it dangerous: it looks like a resolved listing. **It is not cited here and its prices are not ours.** Nothing on the Australian storefront is published under riffusion.com. This confirms the warning the 21 September app-store pass recorded, and it is the clearest argument in the whole exercise for matching on `sellerUrl` rather than on a name. Searched Apple's own Australian storefront endpoint (`itunes.apple.com/search?country=au&entity=software`) and matched each result on its declared **`sellerUrl`** rather than its publisher name — the method that resolved Msty (CloudStack, LLC → msty.ai) and Bluedot (Twiso Inc. → bluedothq.com) the same day, both of which the 21 September pass had recorded as untraceable. Checked 21 September 2026 by the app-store apply pass, `Audits/app-store-apply-2026-09-21.md`. Re-check if the vendor announces a mobile app.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Riffusion still exist in 2026?

Not as an independent product. As of mid-2026, riffusion.com redirects to Google Flow Music (flowmusic.app), a generative music platform powered by Google DeepMind's Lyria 3 model. The original Riffusion standalone product and its open-source approach are no longer publicly accessible.

### Can Australian businesses use Google Flow Music commercially?

The commercial licensing terms for Google Flow Music were not fully confirmed from public primary sources at time of review (26 June 2026). The Terms of Service page at flowmusic.app/terms returned empty content. Australian businesses intending to use AI-generated music commercially — in advertising, client deliverables, or streaming distribution — should verify the current terms directly on the platform before proceeding.

### What is the best Riffusion alternative for Australian creators?

For full AI songs with vocals, Suno and Udio are the closest alternatives with clearer commercial licensing. For open-source, self-hosted music generation with licensed training data, Stable Audio is the strongest option. For royalty-free background music with straightforward licensing, Soundraw is worth considering.
