*Pricing figures updated 6 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD ≈ 1.40 AUD, verified 5 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow \~10% on top (*[*Methodology*](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/methodology/)*).*

> **The verdict:** Relevance AI is the most credible homegrown name in AI agents — founded in Sydney, hosting data in Sydney, and genuinely capable of building a small "AI workforce" without code. It earns its place on any Australian shortlist. But it prices in US dollars, the usage-based meter can run away from you, and "no-code" still means "you'll need to think like a process designer." A strong four stars, not five. Best for operators who have a repeatable, high-volume task and want to automate it properly — not for someone dipping a toe in. **Score: 20/25 — ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good.**

## What it is

Relevance AI is a platform for building **AI agents** — software workers that take an instruction, use tools, and complete a multi-step task on their own. Think of it less as a chatbot and more as a digital staffer you configure once and then hand jobs to.

It was founded in Sydney in 2020 by Daniel Vassilev and Jacky Koh. That matters for this publication, and we'll come back to it. The company has since raised US$37 million (about A$52 million) in a Series B led by Bessemer Venture Partners, taking total funding past US$64 million. Customers reportedly include Activision, SafetyCulture and a swag of mid-market firms.

The core idea is an "AI workforce." You don't just build one agent — you build a team of them, each with a defined role, and let them hand work between each other. A research agent finds prospects, a writing agent drafts the outreach, a third agent logs it all to your CRM. All of it no-code, assembled in a visual builder.

That puts it squarely in **AI Automation & Integration** — the category for tools that connect your systems and do work across them, rather than tools you sit and chat with.

## What it costs in Australia (AUD + GST)

Here's the first catch for Australians: **Relevance AI prices in US dollars.** Despite the Sydney head office, there's no AUD billing toggle on the public plans. So every figure below carries currency risk and a conversion.

We use US$1 ≈ A$1.40\. International digital services bought for business use generally fall under Australia's GST rules, so we show figures ex-GST — a GST-registered business quoting its ABN is not charged GST on an imported service; other buyers add \~10%.

| **Team** | US$234/mo annual, **US$349/mo monthly** | \~A$328/mo | 7,000 actions/mo, 35,000 vendor credits/mo, 5 build users, 45 end users |

A note on the meter. Since a September 2025 overhaul, Relevance AI splits its billing in two: **Actions** (each tool run your agent performs) and **Vendor Credits** (the underlying AI model cost — OpenAI, Anthropic and so on, charged at no markup). Run out of either mid-month and you top up: US$80 per 1,000 extra Actions (\~A$112 ex-GST), US$20 per 10,000 extra Vendor Credits (\~A$28 ex-GST) — top-ups are available on paid plans only, so Free users must upgrade first. The old flat $599/mo Business plan was retired in that same change.

The practical warning: this is **usage-based pricing**, and a busy multi-agent workflow burns Actions fast. The Pro plan's 30,000 actions a year is roughly 82 a day. A single agent doing real work can chew through that in an afternoon. Budget for the top-up, or you'll get a surprise.

The honest GST line: GST treatment on US-billed SaaS depends on whether you're registered and have supplied your ABN. Confirm with your accountant — the figures above assume the GST-inclusive landed cost for a typical small business; exact AUD and GST handling at checkout is not confirmed from a primary invoice.

## How it works / features (be specific)

Relevance AI is built around four things you assemble like Lego.

**Tools** are the atomic unit — a single capability. Search the web. Send an email. Query a database. Run a snippet of Python or JavaScript. You can use built-in tools or write your own. There are reportedly 2,000-plus integrations available at the Enterprise tier.

**Agents** wrap tools in instructions. You give an agent a role ("You are a sales research assistant"), a set of tools, and a goal. It then decides which tools to use, in what order, to hit the goal. This is the bit that separates an agent from a script — it reasons about the steps rather than following a fixed flow.

**Workforce** is the multi-agent layer. You build a team — a manager agent that delegates to specialist agents, with escalation rules for when something needs a human. This is the headline feature and the reason the company talks about an "AI workforce" rather than a chatbot.

**Invent** is the text-to-agent generator. You describe what you want in plain English — "build me an agent that qualifies inbound leads and books them into my calendar" — and it assembles a working draft agent for you to refine. It's the fastest on-ramp for a non-technical user.

A concrete example. A property manager could build a workforce where one agent reads inbound tenant emails, a second categorises them (maintenance, rent, complaint), a third drafts a reply in the agency's tone, and anything flagged urgent escalates to a human inbox. Set up once, runs continuously. That's the promise, and on a well-scoped task it largely delivers.

You can bring your own model API key (OpenAI, Anthropic) on paid plans, which bypasses Vendor Credits entirely — a real saving if you already pay for those keys.

## What it does well

**The multi-agent model is genuinely ahead of the pack.** Plenty of tools build a single agent. Relevance AI's Workforce — agents delegating to agents, with escalation paths — is one of the more mature implementations available, and it shows in how cleanly complex workflows hold together.

**Invent lowers the barrier convincingly.** Describing an agent in plain English and getting a working draft back is the difference between "I'll get to it someday" and "I built it on Tuesday." For a non-technical operator, this is the feature that makes the platform usable at all.

**It scales from one person to an enterprise.** The same builder that a solo consultant uses on the Pro plan runs the agent fleets at Activision-scale firms. You're not going to outgrow it in a hurry.

**The escape hatch for technical users is real.** When no-code hits its ceiling, you can drop into custom Python or JavaScript tools. That ceiling is a lot higher than most no-code platforms.

## Where it falls short

No tool is faultless, and here are the real ones.

**The pricing meter is hard to predict.** Splitting Actions from Vendor Credits is honest — you can see model costs at cost — but it makes your monthly bill genuinely difficult to forecast. A workflow that's cheap in testing can get expensive in production, and you find out after the fact. For a small Australian business watching cash flow, that unpredictability is a real cost in itself.

**"No-code" oversells the ease.** You don't write code, but you do have to think like a systems designer — defining roles, tool permissions, escalation logic, edge cases. A 35-year-old business owner with no automation background will hit a wall on anything beyond a simple agent. Budget a learning curve of days, not minutes.

**It's USD-first despite being Australian.** For a Sydney company, the absence of native AUD billing is a genuine miss for local buyers (more below).

**It's a build-it-yourself tool, not an off-the-shelf answer.** There's no library of pre-built "just press go" agents for common Australian business jobs. You're buying a workshop, not a finished product. If you want a tool that already does invoicing or already books appointments out of the box, this isn't it.

## Australian fit

This is where Relevance AI earns most of its points — and loses a couple.

**Is it Australian-built?** Yes, unambiguously. Founded in Sydney in 2020, still Sydney-headquartered, backed by Australian investors (King River Capital among the Series B). In a category dominated by US names, a homegrown founder story is rare and real.

**Data residency.** This is the standout. Relevance AI lets you choose your hosting region at signup — **AU (Sydney)**, US (N. Virginia) or EU (London) — and the choice is locked once made. For an Australian business that needs customer data to stay onshore, this is a serious advantage that almost none of its global rivals match. It's also **SOC 2 Type II compliant** and GDPR-aligned, and states plainly that it does not train its models on your data.

**AUD billing.** No. Plans are quoted and charged in US dollars, with the currency risk and GST friction that brings. For a Sydney company, this is a frustrating gap and the single biggest drag on its local fit.

**AU support.** A Sydney head office implies AEST-hours support, which is a quiet advantage over US tools that answer at 3am Australian time, though a dedicated AU support SLA is not confirmed from a primary source; dedicated account management is an Enterprise feature.

Net: Australian Fit is strong — onshore data residency and an Australian founder story carry it — but the USD billing stops it being perfect.

| Value for Money | 3 / 5 | Capable, but the usage meter is unpredictable and it's USD-priced. Pro is cheap; production costs aren't — and since September there is no free tier to find that out on. |
| Ease of Use | 4 / 5 | Invent and the visual builder lower the barrier; real workflows still demand systems thinking. |
| Feature Depth | 5 / 5 | Multi-agent Workforce, custom code tools, 2,000+ integrations, BYO model keys. Best-in-class depth. |
| Australian Fit | 4 / 5 | Sydney-built, onshore (Sydney) data residency, SOC 2 Type II. Loses a point for USD-only billing. |
| Reliability & Support | 4 / 5 | SOC 2 Type II, enterprise customers at scale, dedicated management on Enterprise. Solid, not yet proven flawless for SMBs. |
| **Total** | **20 / 25** | **⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good** |

Australian Fit is 4/5, so the Australian Fit gate is cleared — but the raw 20-point total lands it firmly in the four-star band regardless. A genuinely strong tool, one rung below excellent.

## Bottom line

**For the operator with a real, repeatable, high-volume task** — lead qualification, inbound triage, research-and-draft pipelines — Relevance AI is one of the best tools you can buy, and the onshore data option makes it an easy local recommendation. Start on Pro, scope one workflow tightly, and watch the Actions meter.

**For the small business owner who's curious but not technical** — be honest with yourself about the learning curve. This is a workshop, not a finished product. If you want automation that works out of the box, look at simpler tools first and come back when you have a specific, well-defined job to automate.

**For the enterprise or regulated buyer** — the AU (Sydney) data residency, SOC 2 Type II compliance and multi-agent governance features make this a short conversation. It belongs on your evaluation list, and the Australian hosting may put it at the top of it.

The verdict stands: a four-star tool, the strongest Australian-built name in its category, held back from five by USD pricing and an unpredictable meter.

Update history
- **9 Oct 2026** — Housekeeping: shortened the 23 Sep entry's note on the score. The score, prices and verdict are unchanged.
- **23 Sep 2026 🇦🇺 CORRECTION — the free way in has gone, and this review still recommended it.** Verified 23 September 2026 in a browser on an Australian connection. Relevance AI's docs pricing page now states: *"The Free plan is retired and closed to new signups. Organizations already on Free keep their existing access and can upgrade at any time."* The [16 June 2026 capture](https://web.archive.org/web/20260616025439/https://relevanceai.com/docs/get-started/pricing) still lists Free, and our own re-check on **2 September** found it present, so it was retired **in the three weeks between 2 and 23 September 2026** — our review was right when it published, right at the last check, and wrong since. Until today this page told Australians the Free plan was "enough to trial the builder before committing", which is advice nobody can now take: the cheapest entry is **Pro at US$19/month on an annual commitment (\~A$27/month ex-GST) or US$29/month billed monthly**. Team is **US$234/month annual, US$349/month monthly**. Those four figures are unchanged since June; only Free has gone. **Currency re-verified at the same time: the page declares USD and never AUD**, so the review's USD-only position stands and `aud_native: false` is correct — closing this tool's row on the AUD claim queue. **Score held at 20/25.** Value for Money 3/5 already rested on the unpredictable usage meter and USD pricing rather than on the free tier. Whether losing the free plan should cost a point is being settled in a full re-review.
- **2 Sep 2026** — Pricing re-verified against the vendor's docs pricing page (the public /pricing page now displays only the Enterprise tier): Free, Pro (US$19/mo annual, US$29 monthly) and Team (US$234/mo annual, US$349 monthly) plans, inclusions and USD-only billing all unchanged; AU (Sydney) data residency, region lock and SOC 2 Type II confirmed current. One correction: extra Actions top-ups are US$80 per 1,000 — not the \~US$40 we originally reported — and top-ups are available on paid plans only. ## Frequently asked questions

### Is Relevance AI available in Australia?

Yes — and it's Australian-built. Founded in Sydney in 2020 and still Sydney-headquartered, it's the strongest homegrown name in its category. A Sydney head office also implies AEST-hours support.

### Does Relevance AI charge in AUD?

No. Despite the Sydney head office, plans are quoted and charged in US dollars with no AUD billing toggle. We use US$1 ≈ A$1.40; Pro is US$19/mo (\~A$27/mo ex-GST). Currency risk applies.

### Is there a free plan or free trial?

No longer. The Free plan was retired and closed to new signups in September 2026 — it was still live at our 2 September re-check — and organisations already on it keep their access. There is no free trial in its place, so the cheapest way to try Relevance AI is Pro at US$29/month billed monthly (about A$41 ex-GST at 1.4045, Frankfurter/ECB 18 Sep 2026), or US$19/month on an annual commitment.

### Does Relevance AI store data in Australia?

Yes, if you choose to. You pick your hosting region at signup — AU (Sydney), US or EU — and the choice locks once made. Onshore residency, plus SOC 2 Type II, is its standout Australian advantage.

### Who is Relevance AI best for?

Operators with a repeatable, high-volume task — lead qualification, inbound triage, research-and-draft pipelines. It's a build-it-yourself workshop, not an off-the-shelf product, so budget a learning curve.
