- Description: Picsart packs more AI image generation firepower than almost any competitor at this price point. But its USD-only billing, US-hosted data, limited templates, and weak business-design tools mean Canva remains the smarter pick for most Australian small businesses.

**The gate:** Five stars need 21+ and Australian Fit of at least 4/5.

> **The verdict:** Picsart is a genuinely capable AI-powered creative platform — 150 million monthly users globally don't lie. Its AI image generation is unusually flexible, with access to 20+ image models including licensed Getty-trained content for commercial use. The photo editing tools are deep and fast, particularly on mobile. But for a Melbourne café owner or Sydney marketing manager, the friction is real: the web checkout is USD with no GST statement, your data sits on US servers with no Asia-Pacific option, templates are sparse compared to Canva, and business-design tools like grids and alignment systems are noticeably thin. Picsart earns its place for creators who live in images and AI generation. Buy it in the app and you do at least pay in Australian dollars — Picsart Gold is A$18.99 a month or A$108.99 a year on the Australian App Store, GST included. For most Australian small businesses, Canva still does more of what matters. Score: 15/25 — Good.

## What it is

Picsart is an AI-powered creative platform founded in 2011 in Armenia, now headquartered in Miami, Florida. It offers photo editing, video editing, AI image generation, background removal, templates, and a social-creation layer — all within one app available on iOS, Android, and web.

The platform serves approximately 150 million monthly active users globally. In 2024, Picsart partnered with Getty Images to develop a generative AI model trained on licensed stock content, giving commercial users a cleaner copyright footing than many competitors.

The company is private, valued at US$1.5 billion after a 2021 SoftBank-led Series C. It has no dedicated Australian office or support presence.

Picsart sits in a different lane to Canva. Canva built its product for business teams and non-designers who want brand-consistent marketing collateral. Picsart built for creators, content producers, and social media heavy users who want deep image manipulation and flexible AI generation. That distinction matters when deciding which is right for you.

## What it costs in Australia (AUD + GST)

**There are two prices, and the app-store one is cheaper.**

On picsart.com, pricing is USD only with no AUD option and no GST statement, so an Australian buying there absorbs the exchange rate and cannot tell from the page whether GST is in the number.

Inside the iPhone or Android app it is Australian dollars, GST included. Read from the [Australian App Store listing](https://apps.apple.com/au/app/id587366035?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) on 21 September 2026, which declares `"priceCurrency":"AUD"`:

| Plan (in-app) | Monthly | Yearly | Weekly | GST |
| ---------------- | ----------- | ------------ | ------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Picsart Gold** | **A$18.99** | **A$108.99** | A$7.49 | **Included** — Apple is merchant of record in Australia |
| **Picsart Pro** | **A$24.99** | **A$139.99** | A$17.99 | Included |
| Picsart Plus | A$18.99 | A$108.99 | — | Included |

A$108.99 a year works out at about **A$9.08 a month** — comfortably below the \~A$16/month our USD conversion produced for Pro on the web. On this tool, going through Apple is the cheaper path *and* the one that gives you an Australian tax invoice. The plan names differ between the two surfaces, so compare inclusions before you assume Gold and Pro map onto the web tiers below.

The USD table that follows is the web path. AUD conversions in it use the house rate of ×1.40 as of September 2026 and are our arithmetic, not a price anyone charges.

| Plan | USD (monthly billing) | USD (annual billing) | Approx AUD (annual) | Key inclusions |

| Ultra | US$45/mo per seat | US$43.75/mo per seat | \~A$61/mo (\~A$735/yr) | 2,500 credits/mo, early AI model access (Veo 3, Seedance 2.0, Nano Banana), 10+ brand kits, 300 GB storage, team seats, 2,000 API credits |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | SDKs, white-label, dedicated account manager |

**GST treatment:** Not disclosed **on the web path**. Picsart's pricing page and terms do not state whether GST is added at checkout for Australian users or included in the listed price — confirm on your own invoice before treating the subscription as a deductible business expense. **On the app-store path the question is settled**: Apple and Google are GST-registered merchants of record in Australia, so the A$ figure already includes the 10% and the receipt is a valid tax invoice.

**Free tier reality:** Five AI credits per week is genuinely tight. You can remove a background, run an AI image generation, or enhance a photo — but you will hit the ceiling fast if you're using this for regular social media content. Basic photo editing (cropping, filters, adjustments) is free without a credit cost and has no watermark, which is more generous than some competitors.

**Monthly vs annual:** The jump from annual to monthly billing is steep — US$15/mo versus US$11.66/mo on Pro (roughly A$21 vs A$16). If you're testing the tool, that monthly flexibility costs you about 30% more per year.

## How it works / features

Picsart's core loop is: open an image (or start from a template), edit it using layered tools, apply AI enhancements, and export. The interface is canvas-based with a left-side tool panel, layers support, and a broad filter and effects library.

**AI image generation** is the platform's strongest differentiation. Pro subscribers get access to Flex.2 Klein for unlimited image generation, and Ultra subscribers unlock leading-generation models including Google's Veo 3 for video, Seedance 2.0 for video editing, and Nano Banana Pro. The 2024 Getty partnership means generated content carries a commercial licence backed by a professional stock library — an important distinction for any business using AI visuals in client-facing work.

**Background removal** is one-tap and fast. In testing across comparable reviews, Picsart's background remover is among the more accurate for complex subjects like hair and irregular edges.

**AI Replace** lets you select any area of an image and replace it with AI-generated content that matches the surrounding context. Useful for product photography clean-ups and social content iteration.

**AI Expand** extends a canvas beyond its original edges, generating matching content — handy when you need to reformat a square image to landscape for a website banner.

**Bulk editing** on Pro allows up to 50 images simultaneously — useful for product catalogues, but the 100-image Ultra limit is needed for anything at scale.

The **mobile apps** (iOS rated 4.7/5, Android 3.9/5) are genuinely full-featured, not stripped-down companions. This is a meaningful advantage for creators who edit on the go.

**Creative AI agents** — 15+ on Pro, expanding in 2026 — automate multi-step workflows. Picsart also launched an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server in 2026, allowing it to plug into AI agent pipelines. This is more relevant for technical teams than for the typical small-business user.

## What it does well

**AI generation volume and variety.** Access to 20+ image models and 32+ video models at Pro price point (A$16/mo annually) is unmatched at this price. Comparable flexibility elsewhere costs significantly more.

**Photo editing depth.** Layers, blend modes, masking, and advanced retouching are available without a Photoshop-level learning curve. If photo editing is a core task — product shoots, headshots, event photos — Picsart's toolkit is genuinely capable.

**Mobile-first experience.** The iOS app in particular is polished. If you primarily create content on your phone, Picsart is stronger than Canva on mobile.

**Getty-licensed AI content.** For Australian businesses producing commercial collateral, the Getty partnership provides a defensible copyright position on AI-generated imagery that many competitors cannot offer.

**Value at Pro tier.** At approximately A$16/mo annually, Pro is cheaper than Canva Pro (\~A$22/mo) and significantly cheaper than Adobe Express (\~A$17/mo but with fewer AI generation features). For the AI generation volume alone, it represents reasonable value.

## Where it falls short

**Business design tools are thin.** Grids, alignment systems, vector editing, and typographic styling controls are limited compared to Canva or Adobe Express. If you're building pitch decks, proposals, social media posts with consistent brand layouts, or email headers, Picsart will frustrate you. The tool was built for artistic freeform creation, not structured business design.

**Template library is sparse.** Approximately 80,000 templates against Canva's 3+ million. For a busy small-business owner who needs a quick Instagram post or a flyer, Picsart's options run thin fast.

**Free tier AI credits disappear in minutes.** Five credits per week is a preview, not a working tool. You will need to pay to use this productively.

**Video editing is underdeveloped.** Despite the AI video generation features, the timeline-based video editor lags well behind Canva or CapCut for producing reels or short-form video content. The AI video generation (Veo 3, Seedance 2.0) produces clips, but refining and sequencing them into a finished video requires better editing tools than Picsart currently provides.

**Support hours don't suit Australians.** Customer support operates Monday to Friday, 10:00–19:00 UTC+4 (which is roughly 4:00 PM–1:00 AM AEST). That means if you need help on Monday morning in Melbourne, you're waiting until mid-afternoon. Email response times are reported at two to three business days. There is no phone support.

**AI generation results are inconsistent.** Multiple reviewers flag that AI image and video generation outputs are "hit or miss," with processing delays even on good connections. The sheer volume of models available can also be overwhelming rather than helpful — deciding which of 20 image models to use adds friction for users who just want to get something done.

**Brand kit limitations on lower tiers.** Pro allows only three brand kits. If you manage multiple brands or clients, Ultra at A$61/mo per seat is a steep jump.

## Australian fit

Picsart is a global product with no meaningful concessions to the Australian market.

**Billing currency:** USD on the web — no AUD option there, and Australian users absorb the exchange rate. **AUD in the app**: buying Gold, Pro or Plus inside the iPhone or Android app bills you in Australian dollars with GST included (Gold A$18.99/month or A$108.99/year). *(Corrected 21 Sep 2026 — this line previously said USD only.)*

**GST:** Not disclosed on the pricing page or in the terms of service. That silence is a practical problem for any Australian business seeking to claim a GST credit on the subscription — you will need to check your own invoice rather than rely on a published treatment.

**Data residency:** Your images and account data are hosted on AWS US-East-1 (Virginia) and Google Cloud East US. There is no Asia-Pacific region, no Australian data centre option, and no indication this will change. For most small-business creative work this is an acceptable risk — but any business with data sensitivity requirements (healthcare, legal, financial services) should consider this carefully before uploading client images or confidential materials.

**AI training on your data:** Picsart's privacy policy references using data for "research and development to improve Picsart and develop future products" but does not explicitly state whether free-tier user images train AI models. This is a gap worth noting. Enterprise customers have clearer contractual protections.

**Australian support:** No local support presence. Support hours are centred on UTC+4 (Dubai/Armenia), which is afternoon-to-midnight AEST. Not a deal-breaker for most, but it's a real inconvenience when something goes wrong on a Monday morning.

**Australian consumer law:** Picsart's terms specify California law and San Francisco jurisdiction. No Australian Consumer Law provisions are included. Dispute resolution would be complex for an Australian user.

**Availability:** Picsart is available in Australia via web, iOS, and Android. No access restrictions. The platform is in English only — no localisation for Australian idiom, but that's a minor issue.

In summary: Picsart works in Australia but makes no effort to serve Australia specifically. It is a US product that Australians can use, not an internationally-minded product that has considered the Australian market.

## Bottom line

**If you are a content creator, photographer, or social media producer** who wants the most AI image generation flexibility at a budget price, Picsart Pro at approximately A$16/mo (annual) is hard to beat. The Getty-licensed AI content is a genuine commercial advantage, and the depth of photo editing tools is well above what Canva offers.

**If you are an Australian small-business owner** who needs to quickly produce brand-consistent marketing materials — social posts, flyers, presentations, email graphics — Canva remains the better choice. More templates, better layout tools, AUD billing, and stronger brand consistency features outweigh Picsart's AI generation advantage for typical business design tasks.

**If you run a team** and are considering Ultra at A$61/mo per seat, do the comparison carefully against Canva Teams and Adobe Express for Teams. Picsart Ultra's early AI model access is a genuine differentiator, but the weak video editing and thin template library may not serve a team's full creative needs.

**If data residency matters** — even slightly — you need to know your creative work sits on US servers before signing up. For most social media graphics and marketing images this is an acceptable trade. For anything involving client data or sensitive imagery, it is not.

The free plan is worth a week of testing. Pro is worth the money if AI image generation is central to your work. For everything else, check Canva first.

The **Australian App Store listing declares `"priceCurrency":"AUD"`** and sells **Picsart Gold at A$18.99/month and A$108.99/year, Picsart Pro at A$24.99/month and A$139.99/year, and Picsart Plus at A$18.99/month and A$108.99/year**, with weekly tiers at A$7.49 (Gold) and A$17.99 (Pro) — all GST-inclusive, Apple as merchant of record, tax invoice retrievable. The in-app annual rate is also **cheaper than our USD conversion**: A$108.99/yr for Gold is about A$9.08 a month against the \~A$16/month we published for Pro on the web. The Australian Fit failures that remain — US servers with no Asia-Pacific region, California jurisdiction, no AU support presence — are real and hold it at 2/5, far below the Australian Fit threshold. ## Frequently asked questions

### Is Picsart available in Australia?

Yes — via web, iOS and Android with no access restrictions, in English only. But it makes no concessions to the Australian market: no local office, support hours centred on UTC+4 (afternoon-to-midnight AEST), and California jurisdiction in its terms.

### Does Picsart charge in AUD?

On the web, no — picsart.com prices in USD with no AUD option and no GST statement, so you absorb the exchange rate and should check your own invoice before claiming a GST credit. In the iPhone or Android app, yes: the Australian App Store charges A$18.99/month or A$108.99/year for Picsart Gold and A$24.99/month or A$139.99/year for Picsart Pro, GST included, on Apple's tax invoice. The in-app annual rate is the cheaper of the two.

### Is there a free plan or free trial?

Yes, but it's tight. The free tier gives just five AI credits a week — a preview, not a working tool. Basic photo editing (cropping, filters, adjustments) is free with no credit cost and no watermark, which is more generous than some rivals.

### Where is my data stored?

On AWS US-East-1 (Virginia) and Google Cloud East US. There's no Asia-Pacific region and no Australian data centre option. Fine for most social media work, but businesses in healthcare, legal or financial services should think carefully before uploading client images.

### Should I choose Picsart or Canva?

For content creators and photographers wanting AI image generation flexibility at a budget price, Picsart Pro is hard to beat, with Getty-licensed AI content as a commercial advantage. For most Australian small businesses needing brand-consistent marketing materials, Canva still does more of what matters.
