> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Don't sign up for Phind — there's nothing to sign up for. The AI search engine built for developers shut down in January 2026 on barely two weeks' notice, just weeks after raising fresh funding. The product was genuinely good. None of that helps you now. If you came here looking for Phind, skip to the alternatives.

## What Phind was

Phind was an AI-powered answer engine built specifically for programmers. Instead of a general chatbot, it focused on developer questions — pulling live results from across the web, running its own and third-party models, and returning code-aware, source-cited answers. For a while it had a loyal following among developers who preferred its focus to a general assistant.

We're writing this in the past tense deliberately. As of 2026, Phind is no longer an operating product.

## What happened

Phind shut down on 16 January 2026, with only a short notice window — by accounts from users at the time, roughly two weeks before saved searches and chat history were wiped. The timing was striking: the closure came just over a month after the company had reportedly raised around US$10 million in fresh funding. There is now no free tier to trial, no Pro plan to subscribe to, and no active product to review.

We've kept this listing live because people still search for Phind, and the honest, useful thing to tell them is: it's gone. Don't enter payment details on any page claiming to sell it.

## What it used to cost

For the record, before it closed Phind offered (USD):

| Plan | Price (USD/mo) | What it included |
| -------- | ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Free | $0 | Limited daily searches |
| Pro | US$20 (US$17 billed annually) | Unlimited proprietary-model searches, daily allowances of frontier models, larger context, in-browser code testing |
| Business | US$40/user | Pro features plus zero data retention and team management |

## Why this scores a one-star

The AI Directory scores tools on five criteria, and a product that has vanished overnight fails most of them by definition. The single most damning point is reliability: a service that shut down on barely two weeks' notice, weeks after raising money, took its paying users' workflows with it. That is the worst possible outcome for anyone who built a habit — or a business process — around it.

This is not a comment on the engineering, which was good. It's a comment on what you can actually rely on. And right now, the answer is nothing.

## What it doesn't do well

- **It doesn't exist.** No product, no support, no roadmap.
- **It closed on a short notice window.** By user accounts, roughly two weeks before saved searches and history were wiped — little time to export work or migrate.
- **Stale listings persist.** Third-party sites still advertise Phind's old plans — a trap for the unwary.

## Australian fit

Not applicable in any meaningful sense — there is no product to assess for AUD pricing, data residency, or local support. Australian developers who relied on Phind should treat this as a prompt to migrate to a maintained alternative.

## Alternatives

- [**Perplexity**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/perplexity-ai-review-australia/) — the closest living equivalent for fast, source-cited answers, and strong on technical queries.
- [**ChatGPT**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/chatgpt-review-australia/) — general assistant with excellent coding help and web search.
- [**Claude**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/claude-ai-review-australia/) — particularly strong for code reasoning and longer technical work.

## Bottom line

Phind is a cautionary tale, not a recommendation. It was a sharp, well-liked developer tool that disappeared overnight, leaving paying users stranded. We're scoring it one star because the most important thing a tool can do is *be there tomorrow*, and Phind isn't.

If you found this page hoping to try Phind, the kindest thing we can tell you is to save your time and money and move to Perplexity or one of the big assistants. We'll archive this review if the brand stays dead, or rewrite it from scratch if it ever credibly returns.
