**Launched:** 25 February 2026 · **Reviewed:** 27 February 2026 · **Score: 17/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good**

> **Verdict in one line:** The most ambitious consumer agent yet — and at roughly A$280 a month, priced for the small number of Australians whose time genuinely costs more than it does.
>
> ⚠️ **STALENESS FLAG — 5 September 2026.** This first look was published 27 February 2026 and is **190 days old**. It has not been re-verified against the vendor since. AI products move fast: pricing, model versions, plan names and Australian availability may all have changed. Read the verdict below as a snapshot of February 2026, not as a current recommendation. (House rule: any review over six months old carries this flag until it is updated.)

## What launched

On 25 February 2026 Perplexity released **Computer**, an autonomous agent that takes a high-level goal, breaks it into subtasks, and routes each piece to whichever of **19 AI models** suits it best — Claude for core reasoning, Gemini for deep research, Nano Banana for images, Veo for video, and so on. It runs in the cloud, in the background, and comes back with finished work.

## What it does

Where ChatGPT answers and Cowork works on your desktop, Computer is a project manager: one brief in, a coordinated multi-model pipeline out. Perplexity's bet is that no single model wins every task, so orchestration is the product. Subscribers get **10,000 credits a month plus a one-time 20,000-credit bonus**; long-running jobs burn credits.

## Pricing for Australians

Computer is exclusive to **Perplexity Max at US$200/month — roughly A$280 at 1.40**, billed in USD from overseas — check your invoice for GST treatment. That's more than most Australian small businesses spend on all software combined.

## Australian Fit

It works from Australia without restriction, and research tasks handle Australian queries competently. But everything about it is offshore: USD pricing, US cloud processing, no AU data residency, no local support. Hand it work containing customer data and the Privacy Act questions are yours to answer. 3/5.

## Early read

**Good:** genuinely completes multi-step work other tools only outline; the model-routing idea shows in output quality; background execution means you brief it and walk away. **Not so good:** the credit system makes costs unpredictable; you can't see or control much of what happens mid-task; and at A$280/month it must replace hours of paid work weekly to justify itself.

## Early verdict

If you bill A$200+/hour and drown in research-shaped work, a month's trial will tell you quickly whether Computer pays for itself. Everyone else should watch this category and wait for the inevitable cheaper tier.

Update history
- **21 Sep 2026** — **Directory flag corrected: `aud_native: false`.** The generated directory was showing this tool as ***\* billing in Australian dollars while this review says the opposite — its own FAQ answers “Does Perplexity Computer charge in AUD?” with No. The manifest value was a guess: `has_aud` is inferred by a heuristic when no explicit flag is set, and the heuristic had it backwards here. The flag is now set in frontmatter, which is authoritative and overrides the inference.* \*Nothing about the tool changed and no price, claim or score moves** — this is the directory being brought into line with the review, not the other way round. Found by `check-aud-claims.py` (sentry 15), written today after four vendors were found misdescribed on currency.
- **20 Sep 2026** — Staleness check: vendor page not reachable to the agent; no claims re-verified this pass. Perplexity's launch post, pricing page and help centre all sat behind a Cloudflare interstitial. The Max price, the credit allowance and the 19-model routing claim stand unchecked. One correction made without vendor contact. The headline, the Early read and the FAQ all said **A$310/month**, the retired 1.55 conversion. The Pricing section already said **A$280**. All now read **A$280** — US$200 at the current 1.40 basis, ex-GST. `last_reviewed` deliberately not bumped. Wayback: capture pending (archive.org unavailable 20 Sep 2026)
- **5 Sep 2026** — Staleness flag added at 190 days (house voice rule 8). No claims re-verified this pass; no score change.
- **27 Feb 2026** — First reviewed.
